Had breakfast here earlier in the week. Had the Eggs Bene with home fries. Loved it. Good coffee. Also, there was a table of military nearby, with five gals and four fellows there. Food was ok. I was hoping for something similar to an Egg and I restaurant. The place had a lot of flies around, but it's summer and I guess you have to expect it. There wasn't much of a wait which was nice and the waitress was very attentive but the atmosphere was not one I wanted to stay at long. I probably would have gone to a Waffle House instead had I known the quality I was getting. That's not insulting Eggs Up Grill, it just didn't stand out more than any other chain breakfast place. Great little diner that has adapted perfectly to the current health crisis. All employees wore masks, tables were blocked off and moved six feet apart to ensure social distancing. Also, a nice touch was having customers scan a QR code to access the menu, to prevent the spread of germs. There was also an option to pay this way as well. Cutest little breakfast spot my wife and I just so happened to find when we were hungry on our way to Kingstree. There aren't many restaurants there so we decided to take a pit stop in Sumter. The menu choices sounded so delicious that my eyes were almost bigger than my stomach. Saw the parfait come out after I ate and I almost ordered it it looked so good!! I had ordered The Greek with no olives and it was very tasty along with those little delicious potatoes (potato lover here). The staff were very nice and provided great service! We had the most terrible experience here. After reading reviews of ppl ranting and raving about this place I decided to give it a try (BIG MISTAKE) we went to this location dec 23rd, mind you this was out first and last visit. Upon entering you can tell they were busy, however it was like all of the staff members were mad and had the worst attitudes, I'll try to sum it all up quickly. We got our food about 3 mins after the order went to the back which was magically fast, the food was cold "Of course" so I let the waitress know, she took it to the back and there were like words exchanged or whatever but when she brought the replacement out, it was the same thing, so at this point I'm starving but refusing to eat food that literally looked as if it was placed by another customer but sent back and then given to me, so I just let her know I didn't want it and would like a refund in which she was very understanding. S/n I was not the only customer that complained about the quality of the food. The waitress (not disclosing her name) was so overwhelmed that I saw her go out back and didn't realize she came back in until after my husband noticed her and asked if she was okay? When I looked at her she looked defeated and was crying, I felt so bad that I asked if I can speak with her outside and gave her a hug. It was due to the obvious tension with her coworkers and it was just a crazy mess. They were messing up orders and not wanting to correct them and a bunch of other things. So I let her know it was going to be okay, meanwhile my husband was getting the refund situated inside and spoke with the manager she did take off majority of the order and charged us like 5 something which I believe was for the drinks, which was fine, but he expressed our experience and she acted shocked . Long story short (not really ) we would not recommend anybody here especially if your out of town, to me the food seems mediocre at best and with the attitudes and no attention to detail on the cooks behalf I'm surprised at the reviews, we must have really came on a bad day , but that day has my mind made up to never visit this location if I'm ever in town again. This is our second time eating at the eggs up grill in Sumter and we were not disappointed. We arrived right around 12 on Saturday and we were seated right away. Ordered our drinks then food. I asked with sugar free syrup with our breakfast and it was brought to our table before the food came (which is nice so she didn't forget). The food was delicious and we were able to sub grits for a pancake AND a speciality pancake at that for no additional charge. Service was great, she collected dirty plates while we finished the remainder of our food, kept our waters filled and was very nice. The restaurant was very clean, food was hot and fresh and we were in and out within 35 mins. Definitely recommend this place for breakfast! read more

I ordered grits that were so cold, they were in clumbs. Our little 5 year old boy with us fell when he went in the men's bathroom because the floors were wet, sticky and slick. There were no Caution Wet Floor signs in the bathrooms..He slipped, hit the floor and then hit his head, causing a purple knot the size of an egg come up on his forehead. All we had to put on his head was wet paper towels. This little fellow was extremely upset and cried for a long time but he hadn't eaten so he ate some of his cold waffles. The waitress did not offer to warm them up for him. We asked the waitress if she informed the Manager of what happened and she stated yes. The "Manager" never came to our table to ask if this precious little boy was OK, if he needed medical attention, or even to apologize to him. Through his tears, he was smart enough to notice there were no Caution signs, and voiced his concerns, which the Manager failed to do. This place should be thankful this happened to a family who didn't file a law suit. They could have paid out quite a bit of money for our baby's injury and for not following OSHA guidelines. Will not return here ever!! It was a horrible experience to eat food that was terrible. How can anyone mess up breakfast food for gosh sake!! The Waffle House is where we will be going on a rare trip out for breakfast. read more
