We had the worst experience as a group with reservations made 3 months ago. I was at first going to write a review out of emotion. I decided to wait. From rude employees to the way we were seated. The waitress never came back and thanks to.the young lady that tried. If there's nothing good to say, don't say nothing at all. And that's where I am. NEVER AGAIN. We travel monthly for brunch and we will never patronize this restaurant or suggest them again. I almost told my bank to dispute. We ate there Dec11 while in town for our daughters birthday. The food was a ten on a scale of 1 to 10. The service was on point, staff very informative and friendly. My two daughters and myself visited the establishment yesterday for brunch. The food for my 1 daughter came out over 15 minutes prior to mine and my other daughters. So I told her to start eating so her food would not get cold. I had the chicken and waffle and my chicken was hot with a nice crunch but no seasoning at all. For my first time I was not impressed. Alright! Next up for Memphis Black Restaurant Week was Eggxactly! Mom and I arrived around 30minutes after they opened and they were already jumping! They don't have a whole lot of seating, so we were told it would be a 15-20min wait and that they'd call us when they were ready. We probably waited like 2mins max lol. Once inside and seated, we were given menus to look over and told to place our order at the register when ready. Be prepared to pay before you eat. Mom went with the three pancakes, eggs and bacon. She added a side of hash browns. I went with "Eggxactly's Beale Street" which is French toast, eggs and your choice of meat. I went with chicken, which was an extra charge. We didn't wait very long for our food to come out and we dug right in. Overall, the food was pretty good. Nothing was over the top spectacular, however we both left full and happy. We've been on a road trip among 7 southern states and this was unfortunately one of our least favorite breakfast stops. We look for black family owned, mom n pop, "hole in the wall" spots because we know they usually have the best food! However, the taste and lack of friendliness and hospitality just wasn't as we had hoped here. Ambience/Vibe: This place is super cute inside and the music is jammin! Although you're greeted when you come in the door, none of the young ladies working the dining room/cash register cracked a single smile while we were there. Not one. Noticed a cute old fashioned rolling pin on the wall amongst the homestyle decor, but it's covered with a request for patrons to have patience with their orders. Thankfully our food came out pretty quickly. Sitting at the window the view is of a huge heap of trash and debris right across the street. Service: Order at counter. Music is a bit too loud to hear the young lady behind the glass and she didn't make much effort to try to speak over it at all. Single serving plastic cutlery is provided. Drinks are given in togo cups, they are child size. Jelly, butter, and ketchup come in single packets. Nothing provided is for dine-in style eating, it's all packaged as if you're eating togo. Food is served on paper plates, which is cool, down-homey, which we love, but we also noticed patrone on the shelf. Seemed a bit inconsistent and tailored to the convenience and minimal effort of the staff rather then the overall customer experience. No one checked on us once we got our plates to see if we needed anything, or even if we enjoyed our meal. We ended up snatching some sugar from another table for our grits and coffee and we were never asked if we wanted a top off on the coffee or more water. Food: Breakfast plate came with a small THIRD of a butterflied smoked sausage with the red lining intact, a silver dollar sized thin sausage patty, two delicious slices of meaty bacon, hot but bland grits (even after adding butter and tons of sugar, they just didn't taste like anything), 2 thin slices of toast, and 2 eggs that were way overly seasoned. The ham plate comes with a pretty nice sized ham steak, but it's also seasoned like the egg with what I think was seasoning salt. All that egg and ham seasoning should be optional or described on the menu, that's a lot of unnecessary flavor to be served alongside bland grits. Child sized coffee was watered down. The food and beverages ranged from being watered down, incredibly bland, to unnecessarily over seasoned, and the portion sizes were inconsistent. Overall, the inside is cute and homey, although some smiles and that touch of southern hospitality were seriously missing. That along with all the "togo" touches and lack of dining service made this cute homey spot feel cold and very impersonal. Plus the inconsistency with the food... This place is a hit every time. Recently a coworker and I came since we were in the area and had time to spare. We both got the chicken and waffle. We should of gotten one and shared it. Wow! I love this place. I found it on Yelp passing through Memphis. I was a little confused driving down a residential street...this place is a house...sorta. It sure feels like home! The staff was super friendly. The woman I first met walking in handed me a menu, asked if I was staying or to go, and told me "everything on the menu was good". Lol! I ordered Aara's favorite. Honestly I wanted to love this place more. But it wasn't as great as it could have been. Three stars for small portions, higher than normal prices and they were out of ham. Would not have been a big deal if we knew when ordering but we did not. This restaurant does resemble a house. It's in a neighborhood behind the Main Street that leads to Graceland. About 6 min from the airport. It's first come first served and I saw people picking up plenty of to go orders. You scan the QR code for their menu and then walk up to the register to order and pay first. Each table has a number on it and your food comes to you by way of a server. Everything is disposable: plates, silverware, salt and pepper, etc. The bacon is great. Eggs too. I got the special bourbon French toast. The portion size was smaller than expected for the price of $14.00! The slamming of the screen door grew more annoying as our meal progressed. There also seems to be some regulars who frequent here. The staff are super pleasant too. When you're done with your meal, you just leave a tip and walk out. Since you paid already you are on your time. There are also some tables outside if you choose to sit there. Parking is also challenging as the lot in front is small and in the back there are additional spaces. read more

I arrived for lunch on 10-13-20 to find one other table seated and no one else there. There were several employees visible. One sweeping a pretty dirty floor up front, one sitting in a chair by the expo window, a few in the kitchen and what appeared to be the owner outside. He was also sweeping and cleaning. There was another person, possibly management, that was there to take my order at the counter. No one was wearing a mask at that point except for me. The Hot Chicken Thighs are what brought me in so I asked if they were boneless and they told me that were not. I asked if I could get something besides slaw (hate that stuff), I was told I could not. It's cool, no biggie... I place my order and notice on the screen that the price is $1.00 more than the menu in my hand. I also notice it says "sauce on the side" on the order. I asked why she did that and she just had the sitting person scream to the kitchen to "dunk" the chicken in the sauce without actually ever answering me. I didn't mention the price and moved on. I don't get my drink or anything else and just kind of stood around waiting for the girl sweeping to finish or give me some direction about what tables she was finished sweeping. I stood there for a few minutes like I didn't exist and then decided to sit down. She then asks me to get up and move to another table just as soon as I sit down. While I am waiting, the other table gets up and orders a Mimosa. They sit back down and the sweeper screams to the kitchen from the dining room, "you want me to sweep or make mimosas". Alright then... A partially masked server appears and gets me my water. Food arrives and they drop it off. The debated slaw is missing as well as the advertised Texas Toast. I wouldn't have eaten either so no big deal for me but it would be nice to get what you "overpay for" I think. I then noticed the sauce was just kind of drizzled over the top with a container on the side and not "dunked". I am also left with no napkins, silverware, or ketchup at all. I get up and ask for it and sit back down to eat. The food took about 10 minutes to get to me so I figured the chicken would be hot as hell considering the big blue sign that says "All food is made fresh". Nope... it was barely warm if not slightly cool. Now, I will say that the chicken tasted pretty good but the sauce was not hot at all. In my mind I was thinking something akin to Nashville hot kind of chicken I guess. It was flavorful but not spicy. Fries are your run of the mill frozen breaded kind similar to Rally's/Checkers. They were fine I guess, but got soggy quickly under the foil where the chicken sat as I ate it. I wish I could say better things about this visit but it is what it is... hopefully they can correct all of my gripes on the next visit. For $12.42 with tip I can get a much better meal, service, and attention to detail down the road at Kountry Cookin. I could have gotten the chicken, hot sauce, and soggy fries at Dodges for about half the price. *Side note: I looked on their website and it's priced at $10.49 there. TL;DR: If you're ambivalent about quality of service, you'll be well-fed with the eggs and bacon (avoid the French toast); find some cash to avoid paying gratuity before actually receiving any service. I'll go elsewhere next time. Patrons are seated, but then need to return to the hostess to place their order and pay up-front. Upon paying, the point-of-sale asks for gratuity based on quality of service; with descriptors like "great", "awesome", etc.; the lowest offered is "good". However, I'd not yet received any service upon which to base a gratuity. It feels like paying in order to receive a base-level quality of service. I chose the minimum, and I'm worried I'll therefore receive the minimum-quality service. I ordered the French toast & eggs combo with a glass of orange juice. The OJ arrived quickly, but in a to-go cup sized appropriately for a toddler. I'm curious how much these ten fluid ounces of juice cost me. The eggs were surprisingly nuanced, with seasoning and herbs beyond most places I've been. The bacon is just a few points from perfect, and I'll probably order more. The French toast, however, is merely edible; it has no texture or bite, it is the eggs' antithesis in terms of seasoning, and the fruit accompaniment was spartan at best. I eschewed the individually-wrapped syrup packets. I was also surprised by the plastic-wrapper plastic flatware and the paper plates; it's not inspiring. My second round of eggs and bacon were just as good, though. Service was perfunctory. The hostesses tell you where to go and what to do; the servers dropped off my drink and meal without a word. A staff member checked-up on me once, at one of the seven whole tables. My second serving came with a "here you go" as my server was already turning back towards the kitchen. My best friend and I had just gotten back in town and wanted brunch. I gave them a call to ask about their wait which was 35 minutes. Once I got there, I put my name on the list and only waited about 5 minutes. Y'all I was so excited and hungry that I could've cried. We were sat down and given menus and told to come back up to the front to place our orders. I decided to try the banana's Foster with bacon and scrambled eggs. The eggs were the best that I've ever had. They were amazing and I was trying to figure out how to make them myself. The bananas Foster was pretty good and so was the bacon. The service was amazing. Someone came over twice to let us know that they were working on our meal and then a few more times while we ate to make sure that we were ok. Everyone there was so nice and welcoming. These were the BEST damn scrambled eggs my family and I have ever had in our lives. The bowls were big, hearty, and so tasty. The Aras plate was delicious and the pancakes were fluffy and tasty. You do have to wait a little bit since the restaurant isn't very big, but it's worth the wait. We waited about 20 minutes for our food. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
