I really need to review this place as more than 1 review.... but I don't think that's how this works so here we go. First, the place itself is really good. I had some margaritas and a Brussel Sprout taco, which was awesome. Bartenders are great and waitresses are attentive. We came for happy hour and I enjoyed my time at the bar while we were there. They would have gotten a 5 star review and I would have happily returned and recommended the joint.... until we went to leave. Now the downside. They have no parking and it's valet only. We got there early (4ish) so the car wasn't far but we still could not park ourselves. This is frustrating but we let them valet the car. It took them 5-10 minutes to even take out claim ticket when we wanted to leave and then the valet asked if we tipped at the desk already, and we said yes. He asked another guy if we tipped and he said no, so the valet was asking for money. They said "we work hard and don't do this for free" He was blocking the door and would not let us leave until we gave him more money. All we had between the group was some 20s and a $1 so we offered him another $1 and he said "really?! Only a fucking dollar?" And threw the dollar back at the driver of the vehicle (who was a female) She was finally able to get the door closed and we tried to leave. As she was pulling out, the guy started chasing after the car!! It was insane. Unfortunately, valet is mandatory and the valet employees are strong-arming female patrons to tip twice or else they won't let them leave!! Ridiculous. read more

This casual indoor/outdoor spot was a beautiful gem. I had two tacos; 1 chicken and 1 beef with a side of chips and salsa. The beef was quite flavorful, but did not come with toppings. Pros - 1) Fantastic selection of liquor a). Bourbon selection is comparable to others such as Reserve 101, Whiskey cakes, and Cottonwood 2) Price per pour is good. 3) The atmosphere is trendy and pleasant. The outdoor patio is well shaded (evening). Cons - 1) Parking absolutely sucks - all are forced to valet. Parking in the street is not allowed. 2) Taco truck food, although a good concept, is mediocre at best. I ordered the shrimp taco, pork taco, chips and guac.Much better food in the immediate area (Houston Heights). Nowhere near the quality grub Houstonians have come to expect in the area; such as N. Shepheard Draught House, Henderson, Cottonwood, Onion Creek, Hot Dog stand, Harolds, Torchy's Tacos a go-go, Lola's (across the street) etc. 3) Pours were ridiculous. Liquor is a traditional 1.5. but the bartenders go out of their way to pack every glass full of ice! Makes ever sip a chore. This place has a fantastic selection, but it seems the staff want the patrons to work for every taste of Bourbon. Was introduced to this corner bar recently by a friend. I can enjoy any alcohol with the exception of that bilge water called Scotch. However, I usually reserve my taste buds for two polar opposites, Tennessee moonshine and fine bourbons neat. Bourbon usually carries the day. That brings me back to the Flint, named after what is thought to be the first type of corn used for spirits. It's a bourbon bar that does happen to sell other drinks. They feature 170 bourbons and growing. Many are made by major distilleries specifically for this bar. Several are even tapped here straight from the keg. The Old Fashioned, a New Orleans mainstay making a comeback in Houston, is quite unexpected. No mulled fruit or soda, it isn't sweet but delicious and strong. I also got a taste of my wife's signature margarita and found it to be excellently crafted. Tart, not syrupy sweet like a lot of places. Lots of reasonably priced food during happy hour too. I'm planning to return with friends who have similar tastes and will have an Uber on standby. read more

I read the reviews and felt I had to try myself. I was definitely not disappointed! I gave this place 4 stars for only 2 reasons. 1. The service, although very nice and accommodating, took awhile to get to us initially. In fact, we were about to go order at the bar when the nice server came. 2. It was 9pm on a Friday, the place was crazy busy, and they were already out of ingredients for a couple of drinks I wanted to try. Food That said, the food truck beef nachos were seriously good as they had quality ingredients and actual flavor. I'm not much of a nacho person for fear that they all taste like ballpark nachos. Drinks Finally, the margarita was legit! A perfect frozen slush of tequila goodness. You can tell the bartender prioritized the taste of actually tequila over being too sweet. My family and I are big margarita lovers and hold high standards. For the longest time, I have been looking for a quality margarita joint in town. Diagonally across from Lola. Parking can be limited but there was an empty lot across the street. Personally didn't park there myself but several cars were there the whole time with no problem. There were no brussels sprout tacos available so opted for the chips and queso. The chips were thicker than you're typical tortilla chip and a little greasy. The queso itself was pretty good. White cheese, not too thick, not too thin. Slight heat from fresh chopped jalapeños and sweetness from caramelized onions. A good item to share. The Bloody Mary was average but did its job. It was a little too tomatoey for me. Reason for the 3 stars was inconsistent service. Our main server was sweet and attentive. One red head with a mole by her left eye was completely short when taking our order and rude. Please don't attempt to help if your attitude is sour. I was glad not to see her the rest of our stay. What a fun (and delicious) neighborhood spot! We stopped by Eight Row Flint for lunch, and it was great. There were a TON of bourbon bottles lining the walls, and there were arranged in such a way that it made for great decoration. You can order off their food truck menu, and they'll bring it inside for you--we were not disappointed. With each chip/dip item (they offer queso, salsa and guac), out comes a container of the dip and a HUGE bag of hot, delicious chips. The chips were actually awesome--they were hot and salty--it seemed like they may have been freshly made. And the salsa was also hot (temperature-wise) and delish. We also enjoyed the tacos--I'm not a vegetarian and thought the brussel sprouts taco was delish. The pork taco was great as well. She was skeptical about the egg white but said that she didn't effect the flavor much just that she liked that the cocktail tasted fresh, bitter( in a good way) and not artificially sweet! I had a cocktail named "something something juice" well that wasn't the exact name but I know it had rum and orange liquor coconut water and vanilla in it. It really was almost too many flavors. They used to make a different cocktail with coconut water in it that was clear and I preferred that one but I didn't see it on the menu. They queso was good but I had to ask for more Serrano peppers which they did provide for us. And the chips are really good (imo). Great patio. I loved our waiter. I think his name was Erik. He was thoughtful and friendly. I highly recommend the OG ranch water. This drink kept on evolving and had flavors I didn't recognize. The drinks are very boozy... I only had one and was tipsy (which it usually takes me 2-4) Also the guacamole and salsa were amazing. Last Tuesday I met up with the Heights Urbanites group for some good conversation and to check this place out. Yes they have many many choices of whiskey. But feet not my non whiskey drinking friends! There is beer and mixed drinks. We were there for happy hour and mixed drinks were 5 bucks, not to shabby! Had a Moscow mule in a Conner mug naturally. Had a nice ginger note to it, but the alcohol was minimal. I take umbrage with places that make weak drinks at Happy Hour, I mean don't do happy hour of you are not going to give the correct amount o alcohol as deserved. I might as well just stick with a beer. Which is exactly what I did. Bud light here I come!! No food served here but there is a food truck that belongs to the owners, who are the same group that brings Rival Market and Coltivare. Queso is ok, noting special. Tacos are better than decent. I tried the pork and beef. Now I'm. Not a jog meat eater, but the pork had way more flavor than the beef. It was nice and crispy. I cooked not pin pint the flavor bit well with it. What a great place for smaller groups! Lots of outdoor seating and the AC is pumping on the inside!! I tried their Brussel sprouts taco (i don't even like brussel sprouts but someone convinced me to try it) and it was so tasty! What a great mix of flavor!! Also tried the beef cheeks taco...WOW!! I went here based on a recommendation from a friend. It was around 3 in the afternoon on a weekday, so not very crowded at all. At first glance, the environment was really cool, open garage door, plenty of outdoor seating, and a rustic look. When I sat at the bar, it took over 5 minutes for the bartender to acknowledge me and when she did, she was very short with me, only stopping to check on me once during my visit. The drink menu included some very unique/fun cocktails and I opted for the La Novia Exotica. The drink tasted great, but $12 for a small cocktail was pretty steep. Apparently there's a taco truck out back or something, I wasn't sure how to order, and based on the bartender's initial greeting, I wasn't going to ask. I hosted a client appreciation happy hour here and I was wonderfully pleased how everything went. First, the service is just amazing. They were prompt about responding to my emails to reserve spots, they made signs for the tables we had reserved. Waitresses and managers all came by to introduce themselves and service was sooo friendly. Drinks were fantastic and their happy hour is an incredible deal. $5 for old fashioned, eighth row mule, and margaritas. $3 for beers, and $3 tacos. I could go without the pork taco (kind of dry cubes), but my favs were the brussel sprouts taco and beef cheek taco. Happy hour is all day on Wednesdays. Parking is available in their lot, but there's also a large supplemental parking lot across the street off Yale. In short - good for anytime ;) It's very spacious, both the interior and the patio, and there is lots of seating on the patio, which is pet friendly! Parking is also plentiful. There are some spots on the same lot as the bar, but there is a large parking lot across the street. I had the Apple Blossom with daron valvados, pamplemouse rose, straberry cordial, lemon, and grapefruit bitters - a very interesting cocktail with floral and fruity notes. My next cocktail was the eight row Frose- yes- Frozen Rose with rose, luxardo aperitivo, lemon, strawberry, lemon oleo, and basil cordial - refreshing and delicious- perfect on a warm Houston evening. There is a food truck that serves some of the best food to go with your drinks- chips and queso - a must. I was also a big fan of their quesadillas and tacos. HAPPY HOUR ALERT!
