If you are considering coming here... JUST DO IT!!!! The lemon zinger bite was unreal. There was a group from the UK in there that had already gone to two other donut shops and said this was the best by far. You won't regret it!!! Also Garrett is the sweetest ever. Addictive donuts. Initially we were hesitant because we just wanted individual donuts and they only come in packs of six, but in fact we needed six and then another six. They were fresh, hot, and perfect two-bite donuts. The Boston cream were great, would definitely recommend ones with the chocolate glaze. read more

Nice little corner stop shop with some seating right off the street! Honestly this place is cute with average service. They do have bathrooms too! There are a ton of doughnut options but keep in mind they're bite size and are fried. There may be larger ones I'm not sure. They were good but very sweet, not my favorite but others in my party loved them. read more

I didn't know a food truck, and a donut food truck for that matter, could make me feel this way. Went for walk along eastern prom and thought I'd treat myself to a donut post-exercise. Put in an order for the freshly made, hand-dipped strawberry glazed donuts. Just a few minutes later, my order was walked over to me and I was presented with hot, freshly made, dripping-in-glaze donuts that I truly could not stop popping into my mouth. Enjoy while fresh, I saved a few to enjoy the next day and the frosted seeped into the donut (still good, but I really missed that glazed look). Expensive per donut? Sure. Worth it? 100%. Great for kids. Great for adults. Great for anyone that has a pulse. read more

Wow, these donuts are absolutely out of this world! I definitely think I understand the entire hype and everything about them. They come out super Duper warm and it taste so good when it's fresh however, the only thing that I would say is that it was kind of hard to find parking near it, and it was kind of disappointing that you could only order one flavor for six donuts. They made them fast n super super Duper clean inside. read more

Umm... this place sucks. Doughnuts have no nuance, decor beyond tacky, staff absent (also the minimum order is 6 mini doughnuts ughh). I can't stress enough how gross the doughnuts were. We got a half dozen maple / bacon and lemon something, and some coffee. Overly manufactured sweetness with no real flavor or gravitas. I truly have no idea why tf this has 4.6 stars. If you have even remotely good taste, and/or have had a doughnut before, avoid this place like the plague. It's a franchise with only one store ‍ read more

Made to order donuts! Served hot and fresh. I highly recommend and seems like a grate catered food too as they also have a food truck. Perfect bite sized donuts for any occasion. I tried a bunch of different flavors after a recommendation and was impressed with the quality. These donuts were better than most I've tried before. Boston cream - My overall favorite Lemon - Simple and delicious Strawberry frosted - Strong strawberry flavor Chocolate frosted - These were like the hostess ones but way better quality Maine maple - These tasted like pancakes 007 - This was the only flavor I did not like. The bacon was super smokey. Others might enjoy these though. Jelly - The raspberry jelly was the strongest flavor Bamm bamm - Nailed the fruity pebbles taste. The cereal texture is a bit off from being in icing but still really good. Classic white glaze - Tasted like a glazed donut Cookies and cream - This one was a little average compared to the rest but still good The flavors were straightforward but executed perfectly. read more

As someone who feels pretty meh about donuts in general (controversial, I know), I LOOOOVED Eighty 8. Something about a full-sized, heavy donut just doesn't do it for me, but 6 mini donuts (of which I only had 2 because my coworkers scarfed them down)? It hit the spot. What's worth ordering here are multiple of the 'six packs', aka six mini donuts of the same flavor. I tried the cookies and cream (aka Oreo) and only wish I had bought more. They were excellent and gone almost immediately. The service was extremely friendly, and the donuts are served fresh and hot. They're flavorful without tasting artificial, and melt in your mouth. I also ordered an iced strawberry matcha, which was equally as delish. Can't wait to head back! read more

Only being able to buy packs of one flavor. ( event though they are small ) isn't great to me. I'd love to try all the flavors or at least two or three in one box. We ordered Boston Cream and a box of Chocolate. Husband also wanted a hot chocolate and asked what made the Coco Loco Loco. Cashier had no idea and made no attempt to ask. We waited inside and after 5 or so min a young lady handed us 2 boxes. So we left with them. Turned out not to be the donuts we ordered. They were maple and cookies and cream. We ate them any way. Guessing some got our order and we got theirs. They were good though. I don't fell like the young lady taking orders on the front end has had any customer service training. If a customer asked a question and you don't know the answer fine out who does. If you take names for orders, before handing them to someone double check the name. We aren't from this area but if we were we wouldn't be back. read more

I originally had these donuts when they had their truck at the fryberg fair and I seriously couldn't stop thinking about them since. I went on a trip with my boyfriend to Portland and I had to get these donuts. I wish that I had gotten a different flavor as I just got powdered sugar, but even though it was still good. Great donuts! Great owners!! I have gone to their brick and mortar location during the donut "food fights" event. They were in our top 2 of the dozen we tried that day. They had a lot of different flavors you could choose from and they make the flavors in half dozen qty. The fruit flavors are so vibrant - especially the lemon. Wow so good. The fact they are made to order is incredible. that magic machine in the back we watched, reminded me of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory OG movie...with the everlasting gobstoppers. :) It was magical to watch. They hand apply the glazes/flavors. The owner to the time to chat with us when he realized it was our first visit and I was wide eyed and excited to be there. The donuts were so great that not only did we use our coupons, but we bought additional donuts and without shame ate every single one of them that same day! I highly recommend their donuts and supporting the owners. I like this business a lot and am trying to find an excuse to invite them to a party..their truck is for hire. read more

Yummy mini donuts! But they are made fresh to order. It's a box of six of ONE flavor or a box of 25 and you can choose FIVE flavors. We got two boxes of 6 - chocolate dipped and Boston cream. A wonderful local donut shop serving freshly made mini donuts! FYI, they are only sold in certain numbers (ie 6, 12, 25) so be prepared to order according to the guidelines. The service was quick - the donuts were delivered quickly. The staff wasn't particularly friendly but we also only interacted very briefly. We tried the fruit pebble, coco pow (cocoa powder), cookies and cream, cinnamon sugar, and lemon zinger (lemon topping with raspberry filling). Everyone loved the cinnamon sugar the best! The donut was crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. It is a small, cozy place with very limited seating. I would probably recommend picking up and eating elsewhere next time as the seating is counter style, up a flight of stairs, and next to the bathrooms. read more

My husband is an doughnut aficionado so we usually stop by a different well known donut shop in Portland when we're there. But our feet wandered by Eighty 8 so we decided to try something new. Boy, were we won over! I tried a pack of the lemon zinger bites. My husband got classic chocolate glazed. There's just something about a hot, fresh, fluffy donut--even on a summer day. The lemon and raspberry were a nice balance of sweet and citrus tang. Service was fast and friendly. I appreciated the little outdoor seating set up in the shade. One of my favorite places!! If you love duck donuts you have to make a stop here. They are made to order bite sized donuts. You can choose one flavor per half dozen or get 25 donuts and choose 5 different flavors. We got the cinnamon sugar and the cookies and cream. To die for! So soft and warm and melted in my mouth. My wife and I were starting our walk along the Eastern Promenade when we smelled the sweet scent of donuts in the air. Lo and behold, we found this wonderful food truck slinging boxes of six perfectly sized donut bites. We wanted to try them all but settled on the cinnamon sugar and Boston Creme Pie. So good! I am not exaggerating, these are the best donuts I've had in my 70+years. Had them on the eastern promenade. Made to order as you wait, warm, full of flavor, cake style donuts. The young staff people are cheerful, and took time to explain the flavors. You can be sure, the next time we're in Portland, we will be coming for donuts again! Thank you! Like most trendy Portland restaurants, lunch for two with a couple drinks each is $200 all in (get that Chase card!). Perfectly rendered fat, good meat to fat ratio, super crisp outer exterior but not too much where it gets tough, the caramelized soy glaze to top it all off.. It was just so good. Also, getting a bite with the kewpie, pickled onion, and pork belly all in one shot is chefs kiss. It doesn't even need all the supporting characters, but it makes it that much better. Slightly overshadowed by the pork, I also got an onigiri. It was filled with chicken and chives. Overall I thought the onigiri was decent. Chicken and chive wouldn't be my top filling but it was tasty nonetheless and still worth trying! I like that they griddle it slightly to help it hold its structure instead of using a piece of nori. The prices are just right. They have a broad availability of items, from single tacos to full blown meals (bibimbap, omgggg). Everything I have tried here has been phenomenal. They have an Instagram page where they post their location and hours, so it is very easy to figure out where they will be on any given day. Their favorite "haunt" is the Eastern Prom, and they're usually there for several hours. I can always count on getting my Korean food fix from them no matter which day it is. When I lived in the Canary Islands of Spain I had a few guilty pleasures: topless beaches, red wine…read morethat cost less than €1, and gofres. Gofres are these smaller, sweeter, denser waffles that taste delicious with either a drizzle of caramel OR a drizzle of vanilla icing (like what you get on top of cinnamon rolls). I had gofres every day walking to Parque Marítimo. I haven't had ANYTHING like it since coming back to the States, and that's been over a decade now. Segue... The Marshmallow Cart is just fun. Good, old fashioned, fun. It's good for kids. It's good for drunken twenty-somethings outside of Fore Street bars. It's good for tourists. It's good for those of us with a sweet tooth who need a fix but don't want to spend a lot of money. And it's good for those of us who like the idea of s'mores, but maybe don't want to purchase all the ingredients to make them ourselves, because... let's face it... there's always half a box of graham crackers leftover (and seriously, what does anyone ever do with those?). It's run by a staff of fun-loving folks. And they've got fire. So, basically, it appeals perfectly to most people's inner child. There's only two things that prevent me from giving The Marshmallow Cart full marks: 1. Marshmallows are typically made with gelatin. Gelatin is typically made from animal by-products (think bones, skin, and tendons). I don't know (but would update this in a heartbeat if I did) if The Marshmallow Cart makes their marshmallow's with gelatin or if they're vegetarian-friendly and use guar gum, agar agar, or pectin. That being said, as a vegetarian, I'm not exactly rushing to get back here for this particular product. 2. THE WAFFLES ARE DELICIOUS. They sooooooo remind me of my Spanish gofres, but... The Marshmallow Cart doesn't have icing for them. I think the only options are marshmallow or nutella. Allow me a Veruca Salt moment, if you will: I WANT ICING. AND I WANT IT NOW. I would come out of my way for this if it was available. Maybe I should just start carrying my own bottle of it around in my purse? The point... if you like marshmallows (and don't have a plant-based diet), s'mores, waffles (sans icing), fire, and smiling... The Marshmallow Cart will not disappoint.

Made it a bit difficult to hear at times but I imagine it's not an issue (or is less of an issue) if you sit inside. But for the pizza itself? Go.

So why four stars? The food didn't wow me. You're paying for the view, basically. While the chickpea fries were good, an order of maybe eight of them for $17 was not. It's an average, pricey menu. The traditional Evo is far better. Still, forget Porthole, PLC or the best outdoor venues from previous summers. In this weird and crazy 2020 summer, Evo-X is the place to be, trust me.

After that, it's seat yourself with no guidance, so lots of picnic tables with 1 person sitting there (we stood at a barrel for lack of seats), and probably worst of all, the bar stool seating facing the water was totally unregulated. You have to space that out or give patrons some clear restrictions. People were just sitting down right next to other strangers with zero distance which just doesn't fly for me these days. Get a host, have them take names and phone numbers, and have them seat people. Maybe they do that on weekends, or at least I hope so. Beyond that the bartender was super nice, but with how interesting the food is, hoped for a little more on cocktails and beer selection. We had planned on dinner but ended up staying for one drink, one snack and getting the hell out of there. I get the laid-back, marina vibe they're going for but in these times is way too laid-back, i.e. sketch. Maybe we'll give it another try in the fall when there's less people around.

It gave the entire evening that authentic, working-harbor Portland feel while still feeling polished and comfortable. We started with a crisp, refreshing local Belgian wheat beer that was light, slightly citrusy, and an ideal match for the seafood-heavy meal ahead. For appetizers, the grilled octopus was excellent -- tender with a proper char, beautifully seasoned, and full of flavor. It came with pommes dauphine, pine nut and espelette vinaigrette, and garlic whip. There was a light touch of oiliness toward the end of the plate (typical with generous finishing oil), but it didn't detract from what was otherwise a very well-executed dish. The dozen raw oysters were exceptional. All three varieties were local Maine and served ice-cold: Fare Well (Newcastle), Nautical Sisters (Yarmouth), and Weskeag (South Thomaston). I had them with just the mignonette and was rewarded with clean, sweet, briny flavor. These were some of the freshest, highest-quality oysters I've had in Portland. The main courses were the real stars. The Stuffed Lobster Frites was outstanding. The lobster was sweet and perfectly cooked, the claws were pre-cracked for easy access, and the tail was cleanly split with a buttery, herby breadcrumb crust that added excellent crunch and texture. It was accompanied by scallop mousseline and dijonnaise. This is a premium dish, but the quality and generous portion made it feel worth it. Equally impressive was the seared scallops, served in a cast-iron skillet. The scallops had a beautiful golden crust and were cooked exactly right -- sweet and tender. They were paired with crisp corn, applewood-smoked bacon, kale, and roasted peppers in a light, well-balanced cream sauce. This dish avoided the common issue of being overly salty. Every bite offered a nice variety of textures and flavors, and the cast-iron kept everything hot throughout the course. It was precise, thoughtful cooking. We finished with the Chocolate Silk Pie*, which was rich, silky, and deeply satisfying with lovely hazelnut undertones and a crunchy chocolate-hazelnut topping. The presentation was beautiful, and it made for a perfect ending. Service was attentive and professional without feeling rushed or intrusive. The pacing between courses was ideal. Bottom line: If you're serious about high-quality Maine seafood, Scales is delivering at a very high level right now. The ingredients are pristine, the execution is precise, and the waterfront setting (especially from a window seat) adds real character. This was easily one of the best meals I've had in Portland. I'll definitely be back. Highly recommended for seafood enthusiasts, special occasions, or anyone who appreciates a restaurant that respects its local ingredients.

Being a Bay Stater, I was looking forward to the brown bread. It never arrived. No one noticed. My server did not say anything until the end, where I was offered a free coffee and ice cream/sorbet. Insulting does not begin to describe it. The halibut ceviche was delicious. It was briny and salt and tasted of the sea. I loved it. The swordfish was rich, heavy, and overcooked. I am always cooking heirloom beans, so maybe that is why I did not love the beans. I don't think I even ate half of my entree. At dessert, my server noted the missing bread and offered a sorbet or ice cream. However, he offered after I had ordered the strawberry cream puff, so it seemed like it was an option for that, not an in lieu of offer. It was not clear until the sorbet arrived along with my cream puff. The strawberries had no flavor. I took a few bites of dessert and was over the whole experience. My server did clearly offer a complimentary coffee though, which again, was insulting. From what I can tell, the kitchen never saw the mostly untouched food, due to my seat the bar. The server placed my dishes below the bar. However, he didn't ask any questions about why I didn't finish the dishes, so it must have been clear to him. I do wish the kitchen had been informed as well. I have never regretted a meal as much as the one I had at Scales. I was looking forward to a delicious dinner with a few glasses of wine. Instead, I left hungry and sad. Scales is a waste of time and money. It's a definite skip in Portland.

There was so much to select from - we got pastries, cookies, pizza and bread - and we pretty much liked everything. Our least favorite was the morning bun with walnuts - we didn't have it right away so that might've been part of the issue. Just note that the bread served at the restaurants aren't available until 2pm - we were leaving that morning so we weren't going wait for it. We opted for other loaves instead and they didn't disappoint. If you want something yummy and fresh - make sure to stop by here before heading out of Portland. I do wish the setup was a bit more conducive to the big crowds as there isn't much space from the front door to the counter but still a fantastic find!

I have to concur because I stopped her with my co-worker and my husband for a couple of beers and have to say two things: 1) they have a great beer list that rotates frequently, 2) the bartenders are top notch. You know sometimes you go to a cool beer place and it seems like the bartenders want to do ANYTHING but actually give you a beer in exchange for cash? This place is the opposite and it's wonderful. Very helpful with the beer list, suggestions, tastes, etc. They are also quick to offer another beer where as some places it seems like pulling teeth to try to get a beverage. It was lively but not slammed when I was there but I can tell these guys would manage great even if the bar was two or three deep with customers. Yeah, I thing the Mash Tun is one of the best beer bars I've been to and in a place like Portland that is in the top echelon of beer cities, that is an achievement to respect.
