It's really cool in here, with the sea urchin-like lamps and the koi patterned chairs. They even have a TV that shows the guys in the kitchen making the food! Riki's has a nice variety of menu items, and a little shop to buy fish and drinks, too. I liked how I could see the fish behind the glass that they used in the food. The food itself was amazing. The sake (salmon) was nice and creamy, and great with the soy sauce, but the unagi--it might have been the best eel I have ever had! The teriyaki sauce was just fantastic and the eel was neither undercooked or overcooked. The rice was nice and sticky, and i couldn't help but eat it all in 5 seconds. I ordered the lion sushi and honestly thought it was going to have raw salmon on the rolls and missed the part where it said it was torched.. i was really craving for fresh raw salmon that's why.. i went back and asked if it's ok to exchange it for a raw one because i didn't know it was going to be torched and the cashier was supposed to exchange it when the chef (who may be the owner by the way he acted) interrupted and told me it "clearly" said on the menu that it was torched.. and gave a very condescending and mean attitude that's why i said it was ok and didn't ask again.. i was craving for raw salmon so I had to order it still even if I got a bad service.. the food was good but the chef (maybe the owner) service SUCKS! First, it took a while for them to attend to us after standing there for a few minutes waiting even though they had no other customers at the moment. They were just standing there talking to each other. Then, when they weighed the fish, they put it directly on the scale without any paper or plastic on the scale. In fairness, the fish here is fresh, and seeing it was really what drew me and my boyfriend to trying this place. However, for what you get, it's extremely overpriced. I'm glad that the fish is fresh, but $5 for one piece of sashimi/nigiri that isn't even seasoned in any way is a little too much. In addition, they were out of half of the things on the menu that we wanted and it was only 1 p.m. We ended up having just a few of sake (salmon), uni (sea urchin), and tai (red snapper) nigiri, and they were good, but again overpriced. If you're really craving sushi, I don't really have anything bad to say about the quality of the fish, but I've gotten way better sushi at way better a price, so I would recommend trying another one of the amazing places in Oxbow instead. read more

To be honest I LOVE the Eiko's restaurant, but the oxbow location was a weird experience. My friend and I ordered bowls of the miso soup it was served to us lukewarm with cold tofu and the mushrooms tasted like chemicals. My friend was too afraid to eat them. The waitress was a little rude and was constantly texting on her phone. We asked for water and It might as well have been from the sink...the only thing from the evening that was okay was the roll. And even then I was skeptical because I noticed the chefs did not bother to wear gloves...We arrived at 6 and left by 6:20. It was an instant regret and we tried to get in and out as fast as possible. I wish the experience was better. read more

We stumbled into this place last weekend in Oxbow Market. It both a sushi bar and a fish market. I had heard that they also have a sushi bar in downtown Napa but I did not verify that fact. We ordered 3 rolls-I which I could remember the name-sorry. I also ordered fresh uni. The rolls were large and the fish on them was good. Service was hit and miss. the bar is very small. When we arrived, someone had recently left but their plates and chopsticks were still there. We just pushed them off to the side. Stopped in last night.The staff are very nice and the food was quite good,but then......I got to the cashier to pay and noticed an additional charge for " 1 leaves of shiso $ 2 ". This was quite a surprise,a bit like ordering a salad and finding a line on the bill charging for a leaf of lettuce. Fortunately a closer look at the bill did not reveal any more extra charges,eg " 50 grains of rice, $1". I have eaten in many many Japanese restaurants and sushi bars,including in Japan,and the notion of charging extra for a leaf of shiso has never come up. I mentioned this to the server who gave me a very nice smile. Maybe they were having an off night - the first two things we ordered off the menu were not available ( bincho with fresh wasabi.." we never have fresh wasabi " and tai ( snapper ) nigiri sushi..." no tai "). All a bit odd really and given that competition is pretty stiff in Napa may need to lift their game - and stop adding a 15% service charge and suggesting an additional tip. Probably go back again though ; their hamachi was very good. read more

Expensive. In most places, nigiri comes as two pieces. Here, for same price, you get one. If you sit on a stool, there is a 15% surcharge. Not a required tip; just the rent on a stool. Quality: ok. Located inside the Oxbow market. Unassuming sushi bar with seating for about 6. Nothing notable except a couple of menu items were not available. Servers and the sushi man looked bored and ready to leave but accommodating. Normally tip at least 20% but the mandatory 15% service charge threw me off. Guess I saved at least 5%. read more

Honest to God? I couldn't have asked for a better Sashimi Experience. Alan, my Sushi Chef, couldn't have been more engaging. I dine alone on occasion, and sometimes I don't feel comfortable (get over it haters, i'm a strong independent woman but every once. In awhile I might ask for my food to-go). Anyway, Chelsea took my Sake order and Al was helpful when Alan was busy. The fish is really FRESH, the Poke was authentic and, like I said, it was a comfortable and most pleasant dining experience. While the kid who took my actual order was pleasant, the sushi maker (cannot be called a chef) was rude for no reason. I ordered their veggie roll to go and asked to add avocado on top, as is done with many rolls. The kid at the register said that it would be extra--totally fine by me. After I paid and TIPPED at the register he turns to call the sushi maker, who slowly walks out from the back area where the kitchen must be -- chewing something -- and listens to the kid tell him my order, when he hears the request to add avocado he responds with an exaggerated eye-roll and slow nod like "UGH, god, must I actually work?" The kid said it'd be a couple minutes, so I just replied that I'd be back. WOW, what the hell is that about? Rudeness can be forgotten if the food is good, but sadly it sucked. It was sloppy, heavy on rice, fell apart, and the shittiest part was that the avocado that ruined that guy's day for some reason (and that I paid extra for) was practically non-existent...seriously a sliver enough that it was almost translucent. I am a huge fan of the sushi rolls and Japanese cuisine offered at Eiko's in the Napa Town Center and am so thrilled that their delicious sushi is now available at the Oxbow Public Market! Eiko's at the Oxbow takes their fabulous restaurant fare up a notch further by offering high quality seafood for sale right from their display case! Very cool for anyone looking to make their own dinner. My favorite part of this new restaurant is that they are selling their pre-made rolls in a grab-and-go case, along with sides from their menu (amazing seaweed salad!!) and Japanese treats (sodas and snacks). I popped in soon after they'd opened, ordered a special roll (I HATE tobiko, so I have to order it without) and picked up a side of seaweed salad from the grab-and-go case and was out of there in about 7 minutes-- perfect for me, as I'm always on the go but like tasty food. While the sushi bar here doesn't have all of the rolls from the Napa Town Center restaurant (nothing with tempura), you can bet that the sushi offered at the Oxbow is just as mouthwatering and addictive as ever! The decor is cool and very reminiscent of the NTC restaurant. I can't wait to stop by for dinner and try eating-in at the sushi bar! read more

Review for the FISH MARKET at Oxbow market (not the Eikos sushi restaurant) - 5 star for the sashimi grade ahi tuna. I eat it raw with little or no seasoning and it always tastes fresh. At $29.99/ lb, it is similarly priced to ahi at Whole Foods or Raley's, but I havent found sashimi grade at either grocery store yet. At the time of this review, the only place in Napa where I can find sashimi grade is Eikos at Oxbow, and I'm happy with it so far. read more
