This review is for their Poke Bowl...however, this is NOT a sit in dining experience. Nor a prepared food establishment. This is a seafood market that has high quality seafood and provides for many of the high end restaurants in the area. That being said you can expect the seafood poke to be melt in your mouth fresh and delicious. There were only 3 options of fish for the poke bowl. Ahi, salmon and a firecracker (salmon). I was worried about the lack of protein choices and topping choices...therefore, I was pleasantly surprised when I received a huge bowl, about a pound, of ahi poke. SOLD! It reminds me of an In-&-out menu. You only get a few choices but they do it well. I enjoyed it and I can see why it's a local favorite. The prices are what you'd expect to pay in San Francisco, but I felt it was reasonable for the amount of fish in your bowl. Did I say you get about a pound of fish? They don't seem to have poke every day so look for the banner sign outside or call ahead if you are not from the area. The market itself has a variety of fish and live seafood options that is more than a typical grocery store would have. They also sell refrigerated fish broth and soups. All for takeout. They sell directly to many of the chefs and restaurants in this culinary valley. Some of my favorites: POKE BOWLS -As a treat, I love getting their poke bowls. They have assorted types of poke and a variety of toppings. To this date, it is the freshest and tastiest I have ever enjoyed. SALMON & HALIBUT BURGERS - I enjoy picking up some for a quick dinner. Just be aware that they can sell out because they are so good. I now always have a Plan B, for that very reason! VISITORS- Great place for visitors to stop in and pick up some seafood to pair with the Napa wine they bought that day. KNIFE SHARPENING - For locals, Golden State Sharpening comes to Osprey to offer their knife sharpening service. It is nice to see businesses supporting each other - enhancing community spirit. The best poke bowls in Napa valley! Amazing service, freshness, flavors, and size for the price. I always get 1/2 ahi and 1/2 firecracker poke over rice. They have tons of topping options like cilantro, edamame, seaweed, cucumber, ginger, carrots, pineapple, sesame seeds, green onions, chili oil, and Unagi sauce. I stopped by for some pricey (but delicious!) poke after visiting a vineyard. I looked up "sashimi" on Yelp, and this was one of the top results. The market is very clean and sharp--it's a small space but seems to have plenty to offer. A poke bowl is $21.95, but the good news is you can get unlimited toppings. You also get a *very full* bowl, so it's probably similar in price to a chain restaurant that gives you a smaller portion for ~$15. When I went, there were two protein options: spicy poke and kimchi poke. I was pleasantly surprised by the latter! Osprey also sells plenty of Asian products (sauces, oils, etc.). There's a small seating area outside with two tables if you're visiting from out of town and want to eat at the market. Great experience overall! read more

The seafood is definitely fresh. They have a variety of seafood items from ahi, fresh lobster to salmon burger patties. We came for the poke. My ahi tuna poke was pretty good, big chunks, the eel sauce added some flavor and it's a must have. My husbands salmon (Mayo and spicy) were fresh but they did need like some shoyu for flavor and to marinate it longer. It was a bit bland, you'll need to add soy sauce. A generous amount of fish and toppings, well you bet your ass since they were about $20 each. Super friendly customer service. read more

Osprey is probably the best place with sushi grade fish in the Solano county area. I'd drive myself and my best friend from Vacaville to get goods from here. The service has been impeccable. The people working at the counter are always very friendly. They offer ice packs and to help skin the salmon. I think it was the owner who even gave my friend the tip to put the fish in the freezer for 20 min before prepping so it will be easier to cut. I will say you should get here early for the best pickings! I've gone in the afternoon and was disappointed in myself there wasn't as much of a selection at that time. That was all on me. The prices are pretty good for the fish. Their website says they can source most items if you give them a call a couple days in advance. I'm not sure where else you can find sushi grade fatty tuna. The little store also offers other grocery items like seaweed, fish eggs, Japanese Mayo, etc. The items like Japanese mayo are honestly cheaper and can be found at an Asian grocery store. But definitely come here for the fresh fish! Osprey also has prepared poke (which I have not tried yet)! Osprey is wonderful! I always come here when I want to do an at home sushi night. How lucky am I ? Well, I didn't win the Ca Lottery but I did walk in here on the right day! They had a lobster salad that was fantastic! They don't always have prepared lobster but they did today. The flavors were on point. Very light mayo and thinly sliced celery with huge chunks of lobster meat. It was perfect. They are able to cook and prep lobster for you if you call ahead. Came here midweek in the morning to see what kind of Poke or Sashimi offerings they'd have. Place can get busy depending what time and day you show up, but the seafood is absolutely fresh. I over heard a conversation with one of the customers asking about a black cod I believe. Guy behind the counter said the quality of the fish that was caught wasn't great, so they didn't want to offer it. Seen another customer asked for sword fish filets to be "2 fingers wide", another customer buying caviar and salmon filets, another staff member sharing a recipe on how to cook something. I didn't feel rushed and they answered any and all of the questions that I had. I was hoping to get an assortment of sashimis to try, but was told that they typically will do this on the weekends when there's more foot traffic coming through. I ended up getting traditional ahi poke and a spicy salmon poke that they were offering that day. Quality of the fish was fresh, but their sauces for the poke were overly done in sesame oil creating a texture in your mouth that isn't the best. Love the fact that its right off of Hwy 29 so its quick to grab something if you're in a hurry (considering there's no line). read more

I love this place. They never let me down. I went in yesterday for crabcakes because they have the best ones in wine country! I also picked up some gorgeous prawns and their scallops were a little small so the lovely gentleman at the counter offered to pluck out some larger ones for me (what a doll!) I also purchased an excellent 1 oz jar of caviar at the price point of $80, as recommended, which rivals any Osetra I've had. They also had little boxes of lovely Bliny and creme fraiche. Truly Disappointed!! Osprey had the crab sign out so I made a special trip down to get crab for Saturday nights dinner . When I looked at the crab in the in the cold case, I should've realized that they weren't very good and should've just turned around and left.. But, we wanted crab for dinner, so I bought two crabs, which I thought would be enough for two people. Man o man was I wrong!! The crab obviously have been frozen, and when I asked the man behind the counter, if they were, he said, oh no, they're from the Pacific Northwest . Well, they had to have been frozen. The man Cleaned them for me I brought them home and cracked them only then that I noticed that the bodies had very little meat and the meat in the legs had shrunk . Meaning that they were hanging around in a before they were cooked. Also the meat was so watery that I'm sure I paid five dollars a pound just for water. at almost $13 a pound you would expect to get great crab. I did not. And quite frankly, I'm sure that everyone that bought crab that day was equally as disappointed. After I clean the crab, I don't even think there was 4 ounces of meat maybe 5 ounces that I got out of two crabs. I'm not sure why Osprey, which is known for its seafood, would even try to sell an inferior old crab to its loyal customers . The whales are interfering with our local crab and quite frankly Osprey should've waited until local crab comes in. Did a disservice to their customers , frankly, I'm very disappointed in a bit mad. Take heed to the old adage , Buyer beware! read more

I take a break and go check out Osprey. The fish counter is awesome. I end up buying some tuna poke and a calamari style poke, these were absolutely delicious. The fish monger gives me 2 slices of the cured salmon, totally delicious. It's about a45 minute drive from Vallejo, it would be worth it for this quality of fish. read more
