This is the spot for the best oysters in Napa. Tucked inside the Oxbow Public Market, look for the place that's packed at the back end. Now they definitely get full, but they have a good amount of seating inside and outside. They also have some bar seating and it's usually easier to snag a spot at the bar. We stopped by for some afternoon oysters and enjoyed their Happy Hour Specials. They have happy hour Monday-Thursday from 4-6PM and I highly recommend going at that time. The daily oyster was 12 for $30. So we went for those babies with a side of the old bay fries and 2 glasses of cava. The oysters are incredibly fresh with a rich and creamy texture. We arrived early, so we started with a bowl of clam chowder ($23), fried oysters ($18), garlic fries ($8) and bread/butter ($4). The service is kind and they normally checked up on us. We sat outside, I think it's like not a very spectacular view but it's still refreshing outside. I actually like their bowls, pretty cute. The food, ummmm idk the oysters not my favorite, like they're good quality and you can definitely taste the difference between each other. Sweet water is definitely sweet. Best one is kumamoto. The other two were a lot more creamy, but maybe I just don't like oysters? Hot sauce has a lot of flavor (overpowering), I liked the sauce in the middle they provided. Miso butter tasted a lot like butter, normal tasting, Clam chowder is definitely different than the ones I am used to with no sour dough bread and it's not thick either. My partner and I are huge fans of Hog Island, and have been loyal patrons for years, across their multiple locations. When we go to Pt. Reyes for a weekend getaway, we plan the trip around our reservation at their flagship location in Marshall. We have also supported their other locations many times, at the SF Ferry Building, Larkspur, and, of course, Napa, which brings me to this review. The Hog Island in Napa is located in the popular and touristy Oxbow Market. Despite this, the times we've been in - most recently last week during our five-day 'weekend' in Napa - we've been seated quickly. They have both indoor dining and a great outdoor patio. This most recent time we opted for the patio to enjoy the beautiful summer day. The Hog Island menu varies by location as well as season. I was extremely pleased with the current offerings on the Napa menu. So much to choose from, and my eyes were getting bigger than my stomach. We opted for some of the essentials - two dozen of the sweetwater raw oysters, some BBQ'ed oysters, and a grilled cheese sandwich. The oysters are always fresh, and though they offer a few different varieties, the sweetwaters from Tomales Bay are my favorite. Everything was delicious as usual. They had a grilled squid salad on the menu, and we saw it on the next table over, which looked amazing. Will definitely try this next time if it's still on the menu. Service was very good, prompt and attentive. They have a good beer and wine selection. Happy hour with discounted oysters begins at 4pm on certain weekdays - call ahead for details. Have been here multiple times before and everything was good but felt like something had to be said of our latest visit. I'll start by saying me and my fiancé order oysters regularly and are big fans of them, yesterday while visiting during happy hour we ordered some grilled oyster and they are some of the worst we've ever had. First of all they were very large (I understand grilled oyster they typically use the larger oysters but these were ridiculous) they tasted awful, even with the sauces on top, couldn't mask the rank taste. Hog Island is always a solid choice. Oysters were fresh, but what we really loved this time were the Fries with Eyes. Such meaty anchovies fried to a nice crisp, but the fish itself was still tender. We were thinking late breakfast then Andrea brought up oysters and here we are again, sort of, since we were just at the Hog Island location in Marshall less than week ago. We have been here multiple times usually at the counter. Today was outside even in the Napa heat with a nice breeze was totally ok. I guess the old saying is accurate. You don't know what you have until it's gone. It used to be a quick trip up the coast to any hog island I wanted and this one too. Then I moved to states where you should NEVER order "fresh" oysters. Fast forward in the Doc Brown delorean to present day and here I am. The guy who hasn't had oysters since we were in Cabo in January. So yeah don't take it for granted that you can order up a dozen mixed oysters on the half. kumamoto oysters are a particularly funky oyster and they have this really rich, creamy texture that is absolutely divine. I forget what others we had cause I honestly stopped caring. I just know when i dine here I can trust what's on the menu and just enjoy. My new favorite find would be the lingcod collars. If you've never tried a collar, this is the right place to start. Really fresh moist white fish with layers of gelatinous fatty rib meat. Not a ton of grilled or Smokey flavors and the vinaigrette was solid. This was far and away the best plate on the table and that includes fresh oysters. I feel like every time I come to Napa there's always something new. This wasn't the original plan for lunch but we ended up here. Located inside somewhat of a warehouse style with loads of other restaurants and shops. There's even a mini grocery store inside. The place was packed but we manage to get a table on the patio. It's a bit different from your traditional clam chowder as there's the clams in shell with all the topping. It's good but a bit messy with removing the shells. And the mussels, another favorite. It's like you can't go wrong with steamed mussels in a nice wine broth. So delicious and worth it. Gotta go with the oyster as well. We ended up with the variety of the grilled oysters versus the raw. They were quite tasty and flavorful. I believe it was 4 different style of arrangements and they were all delicious. The grilled squid salad sounded amazing but it was a bit underwhelming. Even the presentation was just a little blah. It was tasty but it could have been a missed. The shrimp po boy was another that was just ok. Not like your roll that I'm used to getting but it was on a burger bun with 4 piece of shrimp. We ended our weekend Napa trip with a stop at Hog Island Oyster Co. in Oxbow Public Market, and it was such a perfect way to wrap up the trip. One thing to note: they do not take reservations, and lines can start forming as early as 20-30 minutes before opening on weekends. I know because I was absolutely one of the early line-uppers. The bar at Hog Island is definitely a vibe, especially if you enjoy watching the oysters being shucked right in front of you. That said, we decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and grabbed a seat on the patio instead. They also have heat lamps overhead, which was a nice touch in case it got a little chilly. We basically ordered as much as we could. The oyster bar mix was a great choice for sampling a variety of oysters, and the Sweetwaters ended up being my favorite. Honestly, I'd probably just order those next time. The grilled oysters were also amazing. We got the miso nori butter, and if we hadn't already ordered so much food, I definitely would have gotten another round. The rustic seafood stew was one of the biggest highlights of the meal. I genuinely don't know what they put in that stew, but it was so rich, cozy, and addicting. We also got the grilled cheese sandwich, which I tragically forgot to photograph, but it was perfect for dipping into the stew. Lastly, the mussels were wildly delicious. Make sure to scoop as much of that broth into the shell as possible before taking a bite, because that's where the full flavor effect really hits. It took some time to order, but the service was so amazing despite it being takeout. My family and I stopped by Hog Island Oyster Co. after already grabbing a bite at Oxbow Marketplace, but we still needed to satisfy our oyster and clam chowder cravings--and this was the perfect place to do it. We were sat outdoors, but the heaters kept us toasty. We also didn't have to wait long before we were seated. I ordered the mixed raw oysters, which included Sweetwater, Highwater, and West Passage oysters. I love raw seafood, and these absolutely hit the spot. Trying all three helped me realize that Sweetwater oysters are my personal favorite, which made the experience even more fun. Everything was fresh and delicious, and I always appreciate learning more about my own taste preferences along the way. Our server was wonderful. Since I'm not always sure what I like, I asked which oysters were the biggest. He explained that sizes vary but suggested the mixed option and even said he'd make a note to try to select some of the larger oysters. I'm not sure if that actually happened, but I appreciated the effort--and I'm glad I went with the mix. We also shared a couple bowls of clam chowder and an order of Old Bay fries. The chowder is thinner than the super-thick, bread-bowl-style versions you might get at Fisherman's Wharf, in case that matters to you. I enjoy both styles, and this one was really tasty with great seafood flavor and very fresh clams. I've been to the Hog Island location at the Ferry Building in San Francisco, and the quality here was just as good. I also visited during the time of a salmonella outbreak linked to oysters in multiple states--and I'm happy to report I didn't get sick. Delicious flavors and the fresh seafood made it a legit dish to order! They also give you bread to dip BUT A TIP: order French fries to dip the fries into the Rich tomato seafood broth! The fried shrimp was delicious, crispy, good size and good batter, but you only get 4 in an order! The Brussels sprouts were very good, tender and flavorful and tasted well with the seafood stew! 1/20/25 Zach, Coco and I went to Hog Island Oyster for lunch after wine tasting. There is outdoor seating, but you have to check in inside the Ox Bow Marketplace first. Thankfully parking wasn't too terrible, we were able to park in the electric vehicle parking spot to charge the car. But overall, the entire parking lot was very packed when we drive in. I checked in at the restaurant and the hostess said it would be a 15 minute wait. I gave them my phone number since they said we would get a text when our table would be ready. We got a text actually after 2 minutes of waiting. Make sure you check in with the host before taking a seat, as there is typically a line, and multiple parties were advised there was a line and they prematurely sat down and waited for service. I ordered the delish kumamoto oysters, the incredible hog island clam Chowder, some fried oysters (amazing omg), oh and some regular bread which was really tough until you put it in the soup. The highlight were the Oysters and the Chowder. The lackluster part was the service - the Chowder took quite long to arrive, and the service was cold and rushy. Additionally, there is a 5% upcharge to assist with their employees' health insurance... welp, that helped me reduce the tip by 5% - I pay taxes to help with the health insurance safety net and did not think it is appropriate to push this requirement on the customer after they waited and sat down. The slow, cold service and required upcharge resulted in a sub-par tip as well as a 3/5 yelp review score. The food was great though. read more

We went for Happy Hour and sat at the bar. It's fun to watch them shuck the oysters. They make it look so easy. The clam chowder is so legit! There's no shortage of clams in it and it's delicious. My husband wanted some oysters and tried Hog Island Napa inside Oxbow market. Plenty of parking and seating. It did not dissappoint. We typically get our oysters at Tomales Bay but this was not bad. First timer and we loved everything we ordered. We drove from Sac to try this place and it was worth the drive. Will definitely be back for more. The freshness of the seafood and the flavoring was just right. I've had many clam chowders and i think this one was by far the best. Packed with so many clams and other things. We brought our kids with us and even they said everything was good. Kids don't lie when it comes to taste. One gave the waiter a thumbs up! Overall ..love the food here. read more

Stopped by Hog Island at the Oxbow last week after a dog-costume Howl-o-ween event down the street, and it was everything I needed. I've been riding on their oyster train for a while now. This place is my go-to when I want someone scared of oysters to take the leap. And yep, they still deliver. Happy hour was on and oysters were $2.50 each, which is a pretty good steal in Napa. (Yes, I'm still wistfully hoping for the $1 oyster days .) You don't get to pick which oysters you get during happy hour, but the ones we got were fresh with just the right amount of brine. The Sweetwaters are my personal favorite, they always hit. The clam chowder? Top tier. Big clams in the shell, creamy yet light; perfectly done. (Side note: I found a rock in mine but it reminds me how fresh they are!) We also got the steamed clams in white wine broth with fennel sausage, kale and chili butter. And then we went for 4 of the grilled oysters with chipotle-bourbon sauce. Fire. The atmosphere is still so good. Open, lively, right in the heartbeat of Oxbow. Service was friendly and fast, everything felt seamless. If you're in Napa and haven't been here yet, you're missing out.
