I love the Einstein Bro's off of the 5 in Oceanside/Carlsbad. This one, however, is awful for two key reasons: 1) The customer service is atrocious. This place is loaded with teenagers that are scraping by with their minimum wage and not putting an ounce of effort into how they treat their patrons. 2) The quality of the bagel sandwiches is much lower compared to the location in Oceanside/Carlsbad. Went for lunch today on a Monday. There were 2 customers waiting for their food, and I was the first in line at the counter. There were only 20 bagels in the entire bin that typically holds hundreds, and it was 11:55am right before lunch. I had to ask if I could be helped since the 2 employees had their backs to the counter making other orders, with no hello or indication they would let me know they would be with me soon. The manager appeared from the back briefly, then went right back. I ordered my food after waiting some more, asking for no avocado on my Bagel Sandwich. When I received it... avocado. I brought it back and they said they would make another one. When I opened the bag... cream cheese bagel. I've been coming to this shop for a couple of years now. Used to be good. Today, however, I order 6 bagels and a schmear. Not a difficult order. I received only 5! Unfortunately, didn't count them before I left the store and couldn't drive back. I've tried calling them for the past 30 minutes to make a complaint and hope to get some points on my account so I can at least get a replacement at a later date, but NOPE. They are apparently not capable of answering a ringing phone. After 30 minutes of trying to get thru, they've earned their bad review. Shame. All they had to do was answer the phone or frankly, hire people who can actually count to 6. What a horrible experience. I just ordered an egg, bacon, and cheddar bagel with a few extra toppings. They got the toppings perfect but literally forgot to add the EGG, BACON, AND CHEDDAR!! This place is an actual pig sty. There are only teenagers who work here and look like they are ready to leave (at any hour that you go in). There were rags on the table, in which it looked they attempted to clean but got distracted so they just left them there... gross. The manager is not a very nice person. My order did not go through online for some reason but my card was still charged and he just said that it wasn't his fault and I had to pay again. Huh? I'm used to this establishment taking 5-10 minutes on my nova lox and large chai latte with almond milk...definitely did NOT wait 5-10 minutes. My cousin and I were here a few days ago and ended up waiting almost an hour for our bagels...yes, ALMOST AN HOUR. There were people before us that just either left or stayed irritated. By the time I got my large chai, I noticed it was a bit light. I'm assuming it was the manager, but I told him the drink seems light. And he told me I asked for almond milk. Are you freaking kidding me? I get the same thing at other locations and that's the response I get? I told him I'd like more almond milk and he gave me a look like I was crazy. I just wasn't having it. And he gave it back to me and sure enough...IT WAS STILL LIGHT. I didn't want to make a scene, but I just finished my drink, nova lox and left. Tip: This location needs to work on their customer service skills. I got a dozen bagels and when I asked for him to cut and toast the bagels, he gave me attitude about it. he said "Do you want me to cut ALL the bagels? and toast all of them?" as if it was the most absurd thing to ask. Dear Einstein Bagel Bros, These photos were taken in Encinitas Einstein Bagel Bros around 9:30 A.M. November 19, 2020. The dog in the photo with the Einstein Bagel Bros sign in the background is clearly not a service dog. The employees were allowing this woman to violate the state health code law thereby making Einstein Bagel Bros in violation. After bringing the situation to staff's attention a young male staff member (dark haired) asked a female staff member (dark haired, heavy set, wearing a 5 point star stuck in the middle of her eyebrows, heavy eyeliner, manager?) what to do. She also did nothing to remove the dog. She then turned her back to me and waved her arm in dismissal and said "tell ??(somebody) tomorrow morning." They also refused to give me an email or the name of a manager to contact. They did not tell the woman to remove the dog until a second person began to complain. Even then it was the gentleman & I who firmy but kindly informed the woman that dogs are not allowed in restaurants.  She took the dog outside and tied it to a chair where it should have been in the first place.  This also makes Einstein Bagel Bros employees sexist as I am a woman and they did nothing until an elderly Caucasian man started complaining. My late father-in-law had a service dog. This was before the time of emotion support pets.  Because of him I learned quite a bit about what it took to train these animals and their owners. Just as places of business have signs on the front door that say, "if you can't wear mask in the store please send somebody else to the store for you." I believe that if you must have an emotional support pet with you at all times you should send somebody else into the restaurant for you. There was a time that businesses were afraid to confront a customer about their pet for fear of losing business. This time is past as people have abused this system. Actual service dogs have documentation. By law a business associate is allowed to ask what service the animal provides for the customer. See the Petco website for an example. An employee would only have to read 5 to 10 minutes of material to understand the behaviours that a service dog has that a non service dog would clearly lack.  For instance you would never see a true service dog sniffing other people, being allowed to be pet by other people or accepting food from anybody else but the owner. It's so easy to Google thisinformation. I hope that the next time I visit Einstein Bagel Bros the employees react immediately to an animal in the store rather than wait for several customers to complain. The worst customer service here again and again. I had a regular system in the CV Einstein Bagels and despite them being busier than this branch would ever be, they always had their act together. I would call, put my order for 1 or 2 bakers dozen every Monday morning and puck them up on the way to school. They would know to separate the seedy bagels with the other ones. To open and air out the bagels if too hot. They put them in a nice box. Always ask if you want cream cheese also. Have them ready when I got there. This branch in Encinitas sucks, problem taking order when calling. When I get there, they are all mixed together. So now my sons chocolate chip and pretzel bagels taste garlicy. He hates that. The bag them, so some are squished at the bottom. I wait forever, no greeting, they just go about their business like I haven't pre-ordered. Even when not that busy. So upsetting. The one girl with purple streaked hair is the worst. Terrible customer service. I will always try to wait to pick up on my way to school in CV when I can and avoid this branch if possible. Always have to give places the benefit of the doubt as covid times are extremely difficult for the food/beverage industry. As someone who worked at a restaurant during covid, I give my utmost respect to these people who are doing the best they can with MAJOR understaffing issues since our government is incentivizing citizens not to work and get paid way above standard wages. I came in early morning, two people waiting for orders and I am the only person in line to order. I wait for about 10 minutes before I am even acknowledged. As previously mentioned, I am very forgiving for the challenging time, but a "hey I'll be with you shortly" would've gone a long way then just being ignored. Finally I order, food comes out pretty quick..waiting awhile for my drink so again no worries I just check on it with the cashier and he starts making it. (I understand it was close to closing) The staff were so rude barely paying attention to customers as they performed closing duties. Once our bagels were ready we were rudely informed that they close at 2pm (I mean they actually said it multiple times to make sure we knew). When I asked if they stop taking orders prior to 2pm they said no they take orders up until 2pm. We were NOT eating in the store, so I don't know what the big deal was. I love bagels and am a big fan of Einsteins but something happened to the management of this location a few years ago. I am from the area and used to go before school for years. It was also quick, cheap, and good. But in the last few years it's horrible. They're rude and mess ur order up more often than not. In addition...THEYRE ALWAYS CLOSED the hours say 5am-2pm but normally they are only open from 12-2. Even still, they always manage to close early. If you arrive at 1 they've already cleaned everything up - no more coffee and limited selection. And some times they just close early ._. Living in SD County you understand that the cost of living is higher. Businesses provide coupons to help a little when dining out. It's important that these businesses employ people who understand the value of a customer and how these coupons work. We dropped into this location Sunday 10/27 and my wife seen a coupon on her phone that gave a lower price on 6 bagels and a smear. She mentioned it to the person helping her. When she got to the register the cashier stated that the coupon needed to be on the app. and she could not honor it. The line behind my wife was getting long so she mentioned it one more time that it says on the coupon to show the app OR give your phone #. At that time I thought that an employee might ask him to leave but no one said a word, so I DID! I raised my voice so that others could hear and told the guy to put on a mask. STILL NO RESPONSE! As he made it to the counter to order the server said NOTHING! As he paid his bill the cashier said NOTHING! A young child in front of me in line ordered something they certainly had when he ordered, but they gave it to someone else and made the kid pick something else.
