I don't know if they've had a change in management, ownership or both - but I've been going weekly for about the last year and they have turned it around comletely. Super friendly staff. Who could ask for more for a community store? The bagels provided by Einsteins Encinitas are always delicious and super fresh. The variety of bagels offered is fantastic --- and one bagel tastes better than the other. What's more Einstein Bagels is a generous community supporter. At the end of the day Einstein bagels gives its very fresh left over bagels to quite a few charities. It seems to me that Einsteins has three goals 1) serve the freshest bagels possible 2) never serve day old bagels 3) try not to throw any edible bagels away if there is a worthwhile charity to donate them to. I have bought bagels here for years. A lot of bagels. There were a few issues like the machine that slices completely topped the bagel leaving one very thin uneven half. Ok I decided to get them unsliced. This last purchase of 3 dozen bagels was awful. The bagels were larger with air pockets inside and tasted like bread not bagels at all. They were professional. Busy, but messed up my mom's drink and it was a to go order from the night before. They fixed it, but it took a while and the girl working the register seemed disappointed at me for saying it did not taste like tea, but coffee. She said she made the drink herself and would remake it, but didn't until she helped 6 other customers in line after me. I think they must be understaffed. Otherwise, they did a phenomenal job. I had the maple French toast bagel with butter, my mom got the green chile bagel with garden veggie smear and my sister got an everything bagel with chive smear. The fruity pop was good and so was the egg cookie. I have never had a cookie taste so good in my life. I think about it til this day. I would come back. Seems like a one off thing. I haven't been to Einsteins in a long time and decided to stop in for a breakfast bagel. It was pretty busy for a weekday morning but there was plenty of parking. I ordered right away! I was in the mood for a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. It took about 10 minutes for my order to be ready since there were quite a few people waiting for their food. I was wondering why this place had two stars. Now I'm think I know why, I came here on a Sunday morning knowing that they would be busy but not anticipating a 45 minute wait for my food. I'm not sure what's going on with this location they seem to have lots of staff but they are so far behind on delivering orders today it is ridiculous. I talked to another customer she said that this is not uncommon at this location but just not sure what's going on. I usually go to Bruegger's bagels on La Costa and El Camino and it's always very efficient getting in and out of the door there. I'm going to be staying away from this place for a while hopefully they get their game together and figure out how to get people food and not waste 45 minutes of their Sunday morning. read more

Walked in and ordered six bagels. One of the young men that takes your order was nice and friendly. I'd never been to this location, but everyone was welcoming. The guy getting my order complimented my Morrissey shirt and we had a friendly chat. They told me to head to the cashier and pay while they sliced and got my order ready. I stepped over to the register and the young man at the register was looking down counting cash. I waited to see if he was going to tally my order so I could pay with my card. He never looked up at me he continued to count the cash. I waited, and waited. I didn't say anything to see how long until he noticed I was waiting to pay. He never once looked at me or asked for me to pay. I saw him finish counting the bills then fold them and put them in his back pocket. He then walked over and spoke with his co-worker that was making food, the chuckled about something and still I was not asked to pay. At this point the nice fellow that was chatting with me earlier noticed the other young man not finishing our transaction so he came over and asked if he rung me up yet. To which he said nothing. So I paid for my order finally. The other young man never looked me in the face, asked me to pay for my bagels or anything. I think he was a little too interested in the tip jar he was splitting with his co-workers. I love Einstein's but this interaction or lack there of was a first, I wasn't too pleased. Stopped in today to grab a quick coffee and bagel! the staff were so welcoming and thoughtful. I ordered my bagel and they immediately had my cold brew ready and then when I was waiting for my bagels I was looking for a cup for water and the guy behind the counter quickly asked what I was looking for and gave me a water cup! The cashier was really nice and took our order quickly even though it was a little busy maybe a line of 4 people. When we had to pay our order came up before another customer and he was very upset and the cashier politely apologized and said our order was next in the queue to pay. It is not surprising that this facility averages 2 stars; this was my experience, as well. Indifferent staff, no concern for your needs, entire place didn't have salmon spread so if you want any sort of salmon you just purchase the very expensive Nova Lox (over $10); absolutely terrible . The manager Michael has no customer service skills. He is always rushing around like a chicken without a head. Very abrupt and curt. Liz the girl at the register is a dingbat with no interpersonal skills. These kids have no idea how to give change back when you give them bills. They had no one dollar bills in the register. Plus the bathrooms are disgusting. This is my last visit here. Plus the table and chairs need cleaning and they vacuum while ur eating ur meal. Go back to pizza Michael. Stopped in for a bite and to get some work done while my wife was at an appointment across the street. Ordered a bagel and an Orange juice and took a seat. Food was fine. While I worked, I noticed one of the workers who easily could have been the shift lead complaining loudly and openly about a customer's order. I'm watching the clock and trying to finish a task by 2pm, when they close. At 1:55 the same young man told me they were closing. I pointed out the time and that I had a task I was finishing up and asked if I could stay until 2, when they actually close. He looked at his watch and very snarkily said, "yeah, I guess that's fine." At the same time he was eying the leftover bagels and telling the rest of the staff which ones he was going to take. We've eaten here several times. The bagels are good but they don't have the best customer service. Every single person we interacted with was more on the rude side and looked upset to just be there. I couldn't tell if it's due to bad management which causes these behaviors or the bunch I came across were just rude on their own. My husband and I requested our bagels to be well toasted and they were both just warmed. Although they weren't toasted to our liking, the actual bagels were good. The outside section was cleaner than the inside. There were pieces of food not only on the floor, but there were sticky substances all over the back bench. I attempted to wipe it off but ended up sitting in a middle patch that seemed a bit clean. I typically would have given this experience 2 stars but since I actually like these bagels, I had to up it to 3. Will I be back? Not to eat here again. Even though I guess I can be a bagel snob, because let's face it, New York bagels... nothing beats it. This means that I usually walk into any bagel place around California with very low to no expectation at all, to be quite honest. This place is frustrating that even with me having low expectations, it still manages to get a low rating from me. I get that it's a chain and that the service isn't consistent throughout and I don't want to complain about it, but it goes to show you that training is VERY important when hiring on your staff. Here are the reasons that irked me about this place: 1. They were clearly short staffed on a Sunday morning, but instead of everyone being all hands on deck, you have an older woman who refuses to step it up, while the youngins' behind here are running back and forth and pacing to get caught up with orders. 2. I ordered a chocolate croissant and regular croissant for my kids and it was: -the wrong chocolate croissant -it was not heated up, cold, plain croissants 3. I go to pay and they asked for my name, I make it very clear to say my name clearly because people confuse it with Sydney a lot. However, I look at the monitor of where our order was on the line and sure enough, my name was written as "Sidney" on the computer... thanks! 4. We waited awhile for our order, because they were short staffed, but no apologies to any of the customers, they might as well throw the bags of our bagels right at us. 5. My coffee blend was the last thing for them to get me, so I'm standing around waiting for them to make my drink, while my family started eating because it took too long. 6. The bagel, once I got it, with lox, was not toasted, it was lukewarm bagel with no crispy exterior, just white, plain bagel slathered with cream cheese and topped with lox. 7. The breakfast sandwich bagel was good, but parts of the cheese was not even heated, it was plain cheese topped on it. How do you manage to keep the cheese cold when there's sausage and egg in it? Our "quick" stop for breakfast ended up taking an hour, but hey, at least we didn't go shopping at Target nearby, starving. Not sure I'll come back though. read more

Went in to purchase a dozen Einstein bagels for my out of town guests to Encinitas location. Asked them to be sliced and placed in plastic freezer bags. Told me it would be 7 - 12 min wait. After 20 mins went back to pay for my order and they hadn't even started - asking again for my bagel selection (even though they had typed my initial order into their computer system). I was told I had to wait for everyone else in the store to be served before they could cut my bagels - WTF When asked for a manager was told I need to come in the next day to speak with him I have never \heard of such bullsh*t in my entire life!!!!! read more

Bagels, and more bagels. I finally tried Einstein Bros Bagels! I walked in and was helped at the counter immediately. I mentioned it was my first time. So I let him know I could use some assistance. The helpful advice the server gave me was excellent. I was buying 3 bagels and cream cheese. He suggested I get the 1/2 dozen, which cost $0.50 more and then I got three more bagels for almost the same cost! It turned out the impromptu selections were my favorite--cinnamon raison and blueberry were the best! And I tried Asiago. Cheesy! I used to get plain or poppy seed. Now I know I love blueberry! I tried another flavor, that looked super healthy (whole wheat and seeds) and it turned out not to be my taste. read more

This is definitely the spot for all high school and college kids to work. 8 employees, three or four actually working and all those labors hours being used up. Just imagine if everyone was productive, not taking selfies, standing around and just talking, they wouldn't be so stacked with orders. I ordered a farmhouse sandwich and an OJ on my first order. I know this would take some time so I ordered a again a coffee and an everything bagel. Literally 25 mins to get my order, all of it. Took them 20 mins to give me my second order, a simple coffee and bagel mind you. I asked the kid named Hudson if he can check the status on my first order and he replied after checking with the actual hard working line cook, "I'm sorry, it was stolen." Poor sense of responsibility. The girl with a black jacket on, no name tag, had a bad morning or day because she has the worst customer service. Toss other orders on the counters, "Here you go, Bye!" And walking away real quick as I was talking to her. If she happens to be management, I feel sorry for this establishment as leadership reflects upon the staff. With 8 kids running around, there has to be some adult there to put them on track. read more

A $7 pizza bagel had virtually no cheese and so lightweight--another casualty of the corporate profits over quality product. The place is nice and clean. Nothing special but there's nothing wrong with that. The workers here were nice and helpful getting our order ready. My only complaint really comes from the fact the speciality bagels were all super thin. Didn't realize getting a specialty now meant getting a bigger bagel thin. The difference between the regular bagels and speciality thickness wise was pretty drastic. Flavors were good and I had no complaints there.
