I am a regular here at Einstein bagels Encinitas. This morning I came in to get my regular bagels and I was extremely disappointed. Service is mid. And I was disappointing to wait over 10 minutes for three bagels that weren't even cooked. I then left disappointed in the service and went home to eat my bagels. I do understand, that it's very perilous times currently, though that shouldn't justify selling burned bread and charging money for it. Something about this location reeks of incompetence. It feels like the young people they've hired have no experience or don't get trained. A young child in front of me in line ordered something they certainly had when he ordered, but they gave it to someone else and made the kid pick something else. Weak dress code, bathrooms running out of supplies (this has happened more than once). I used to think the coffee was giving me indigestion, but this morning I had only my own water... and had indigestion. I tried working with my laptop and the internet connection was crap. Wow. I have never been treated so rudely by a manager named Mia at this location and she actually told me she didn't give an F... I placed a catering order online yesterday I called to ask about having the bagels toasted The Man told me that I should call the day I was picking them up 15 minutes ahead of time and they could do that for me. When I called the day of pick up Mia was extremely rude to me on the phone said she did not have my order and there was no way she was going to toast 20 bagels for me. I explain to her that I was upset that my order was lost and I was told something different from a man the day before and I was going to a work meeting and needed to have these ready can she help me. She told me that man no longer work there and said she needed to see my receipt because you can believe that I actually placed the order. When I arrive to pick up the order I offered to show her the receipt and told her that I thought she was rude on the phone and this is when she told me that she didn't give an F... She never looked at the receipt which I held out for her and she was extremely rude would not tell me her name and left the area. First time that I've been to this place!! I wasn't sure how great a bagel place could be but I'm glad my sister talked me into it!! For about $6.50 I was able to get a low-cal havarti chicken sandwich, a potato salad [or chips] & a fountain drink!! Not a bad deal!! I opted for the meal deal bc..uhm...it's a deal?!? The sandwich was pretty good!! It came with havarti cheese, chicken, onions, asparagus, and the sun-dried tomato and basil cream cheese. Yumm yummy yumm!! And all under 400 calories! Considering Americans eat like 1000+ calories per meal..I guess under 400 is super! The plain bagel was so fresh & perfectly toasted. I LOVE these bagels!! The potato salad was also better than expected. The amount they give you for the combo meal is small..like maybe a cups worth. But it was just enough. The entire meal was perfectly portioned for the health conscious. It was just enough to keep me content and was also very tasty as well! One star because the food is usually good. But why can't this location be as good as their Rancho Bernardo location? They are consistently out of popular bagels as early as 10am. Today was no exception. No chocolate chip bagels, no plain bagels, and limited choices. But the biggest issue was that their web ordering was down, so we ordered when we arrived. There were probably 8 people waiting for this food but nobody in line. That should have been a sign. Orders were coming out every 4-5 minutes and when they called the name, nobody picked up their food. Apparently those were app orders or Grubhub or something. After 20'monutes the manager started asking people their names and trying to find this order on the order scenes. He was trying, but the system is really screwed up. At first they couldn't find my order, then I guess they did. They said just two more minutes and after about 6-7, the manager has to look into it again. There were three people preparing the food. Really should be sufficient to get an order out every couple of minutes. Very disappointing and while I love Einstein, I will never visit again on a weekend or busy time unless I order way ahead. read more

I received a coupon in the mail and the sandwich advertised caught my eye.. The Napa Valley sandwich looked delicious and I was absolutely right about that. My daughter chose the turkey club and loved it:) all of the ingredients were fresh and who doesn't love fresh bread/bagels? I've been going to this Einstein bagel location off and on for many years. In the last two years I've noticed a decline in customer service. Each time, I found myself saying that I would never return. Well, out of convenience and against my better judgment I went one more time which will be the last time. The last few visits I have been in to this location my order comes out completely wrong. Used to love coming here before work but service has definitely declined. I get it sometimes work sucks but don't make it seem annoying and like it's a hassle to deal with customers. They would rather chat with each other than actually work and most of the time just stood around. I know this is a chain bagel place but they are always right on with what they offer. I find this fast food place to be very health conscious, something you don't find very often in fast food places. Their prices are great as well for what you get. They make all of their sandwiches and salads fresh. The location in Encinitas is also always clean with excellent service. Be careful during soccer season as the place fills up on Saturdays. I absolutely adore their walnut, Gorgonzola salad (Bros Bistro) and the raspberry vinaigrette dressing it comes with. This Einstein's is like a well oiled machine in comparison to the one by our house. We came here for the first time yesterday and we were in quite the hurry to get on the road to LA, but needed some substance for breakfast. We arrived and I was worried we were going to be held up here because it was incredibly busy with families and children everywhere. We all were nervous, but bit the bullet and waited in line. The Einstein's staff cranked people out - we were in and out within 10 mins where I thought it was going to be the upside of 20-25 mins. The greeted us politely and took our order and managed to have it freshly made and ready for us shortly after we paid our bill. They have a far better layout than most Einstein's I've been too, with a large sit down area inside, as well as a nice outside patio area to enjoy the weather or bring your puppy with you. I wish these guys would have a training session with the PB location in how to work with people and run an efficient business. They do take credit cards, have plenty of parking available and offer a variety of bagels, sandwiches, salads and more depending on what you are feeling. read more

I know I tend to come to bagel places a bit late, but it wasn't close to closing time or anything (around noon) and they were out of probably over half of their bagel selection. They had quite a few flavors I really wanted, and I was disappointed. The orange juice was expensive, so I expected it to be fresh-squeezed. It didn't taste like it. I visited this store this past Sunday and what a disaster it was. This store has some major operational issues. I personally waited almost 30 minutes for a sandwich and I personally witnessed the employee who claimed to be the general manager totally berate a customer in front of me who was also frustrated with the long wait time. He said it had been over 35 minutes for his sandwich order and it was made incorrectly. This employee yelled at this customer and said things like "I don't care if you ever come back to this store again," "Ive been here since 3:30am I could care less about your sandwich." This lady is clearly miserable in her job and needs to be fired. Ive never heard someone in service treat a customer like that, let alone another human being like that! All this man wanted was his sandwich in a proper amount of time and made correctly. He had every right to be upset, as was I for the insanely long wait times. I wish I had seen the comments on this page before visiting the store and witnessing what I did. It looks like I and this poor man are not the only ones to experience what we did at this location. If this woman is really the GM as she claimed to be, no wonder this place is an absolute nightmare. Clearly the failure stems from the top. read more

If I could give 0 stars, then I would. What are the issues: 1. Always out of cinnamon sugar bagels (even at 7:00 am). 2. When the bagels are available their quality is inconsistent (better during the week vs the weekend) 3. Jennifer (the manager/owner always has a scowl on her face and is generally unhappy). Btw, don't ask her to put cinnamon sugar on both sides of the bagel bc her response will be unpleasant. 4. The only redeeming quality are the young people who work there. They are quite nice and try to help. Lastly, I would never go to this location, but my wife and children like cinnamon sugar bagels, when they are available and prepared properly. read more

This is a sad review to write because I truly do love Einstein's bagels - when I make them at home. For whatever reason, I can't get a toasted bagel from the store. I asked for toasted and it's cold. I have asked "make sure it's toasted" with emphasis and it's still cold. Then I've asked today "can I have it double toasted?" And I swear it was not even warm! It tasted like they just cut it without toasting it at all. Untoasted bagels are not horrible but they're way chewier and less delicious. It's so unsatisfying to anticipate a nicely hot toasted bagel with cream cheese and get a firm cold bagel :( anyways I don't know if they have a horrible toasting device but this has happened to me 4+ times and I really just come because of my dubious optimism and love for bagels. So please Einstein's Management - Tell employees to spend more time toasting or turn up the heat on that thing!! read more

Can't seem to find the flaws that other finding about this, other than the fact that the leather seats were a little weathered. Aside from that, the customer service was great there, as well as the bagels sandwiches. Did a breakfast turkey and cheddar sandwich, as well as a deli turkey sandwich. Well worth it! This place is consistently filthy. They also don't know how to manage their supply as they are always out of most bagels Saturday/Sunday mornings. Corporate should better manage its stores, especially this one. Also, in my opinion, food and nose rings don't go together and It would be great if servers didn't wear them. What the heck happened to Einstein Bros.!? I used to like them, seeing them as the closest to a NY bagel and enjoyed eating them once in a while as a treat. I haven't had a bagel from them in a long time, been buying them from VONs if I had the urge, so decided to get my favorite sesame seed bagel. Bought 3 of them. They were undercooked, much smaller than they used to be, hard with no good smell, and completely tasteless! I had to toast it just to make it edible and even that didn't help. I remember how good they used to smell and the texture and they were nice and big. Now they are much more expensive and much smaller. How sad is it that VON's sells much better bagels at a much lower cost, plus they are as big as Einstein Bros. used to be. All you sell are bagels, how can you let your main product go down like this? They are expensive, small, hard,and tasteless. I can't think of one reason I would ever go back. Bagels are always tasty but the cleanliness is always in question here. Wow!!!! Wtf is wrong w this place?!!!!! Just waited in a 45 min line to get a dozen bagels to go. Staff was crazy slow and inefficient. To top it off, I guess they are out of cream cheese!!!!what?! Regular cream cheese.... Not anything crazy. This is wrong on so many levels. Then to really hit the point home, there are signs all over the store advertising how quick and easy ordering and pick up is. I witnessed a dude standing and waiting for his order at least for 30 minutes after he ordered. Don't even bother trying to call in ahead of time either..... the phone was ringing off the hook and I seriously doubt anyone would pull it together to get a called in order going and ready to pick up. I mean who does love Einstein's? You know exactly what you are going to get. My personal favorite is the everything bagel with cream cheese. They are open early and ready for you! At this location the staff is friendly and the inside is warm so on cold early mornings it's a great place to come in and sit for a breakfast. You can gain points through their rewards and end up getting discounts and what not! Einstein's is always a good place to go! read more
