Fantastic! Fresh! Amazing food! Small parking lot although I have always found parking. Restaurant tiny inside but lots of outdoor tables. Usually only 3 servers & they never stop moving. Super busy especially on weekend. I try to do take away when possible so I don't have to wait. My only issue is to go - take away orders they add gratuity. Isn't that supposed to be my option?

even in my intermittent absence from los angeles... each return is punctuated by my mother's unwavering insistence on Sushi Beluga... despite the erosions of dementia, this place remains indelibly inscribed in her memory... which, in itself, is the highest form of endorsement... undeniably exquisite

Fantastic sushi! We've been coming to Beluga since 2020 almost weekly and have never been disappointed. I have zero complaints!

What a gem!! Delicious, fresh food and super friendly service.

Dined at Sushi Beluga for the first time this evening and we had the best time!! There was a short wait to be seated and while its extremely cold outside mid-December, they brought each table portable heaters that kept us so toasty!! Food was on point - crispy tempura, buttery fresh fish and veggies. Washed it all down with piping hot green tea. We loved every moment. Service is so friendly and quick. Prices are extremely fair as well!! From appetizers to dessert and everything inbetween, we walked away spending a little over $100! I can't wait to visit again!

Got it! Here's the version with the dashes removed: --- 4 stars Sushi Beluga Playa Del Rey My best friend and I split the nigiri platter (#805) and it was just the right amount to fill us up. The quality was great with super fresh fish, clean cuts, and perfectly cooked rice. Service was fast and friendly and our food came out quickly without feeling rushed. The only downside is the limited parking so plan ahead. Overall, a solid spot for fresh high-quality sushi in a laid-back setting.

my god YEEEEES. so good so good so good. me and my husband got in a gnarly fight about our dog Chico but besides from that , the seaweed, the rice, the salmon everything was amazing

Food: Fresh, quick, and delicious! The price point is similar to any other sushi spot on the west side. We ordered the #71! Service: The super kind waitress told us to also try the location in Long Beach. We didn't wait at all to be seated. There were only two tables open which is a great sign. Ambiance: Cozy but cramped! Definitely a take your friend to vent about life type of spot after a rough work day haha

Had a great time. It was our anniversary, and we were fortunate to have a table for two available for walk-ins. And hellz YES.. . there sushi is as hyped about. My wife has a major love affair for sushi. She has a favorite sake, and BOOM.... everything was a complete mouth-watering success. The food was, and I do hate using the oh-so overused adjective "amazing", but dammit... it truly was amazing (lol) Wish I had more pics, but hey... when youre too busy eating and not taking pics... that's usually a good thing, right? ‍

Great service. Good sushi for the price. Small restaurant. Great free parking lot. Accommodating to gluten allergy.

Some of the best Japanese food I have had outside of Japan and at a reasonable price. The food is fresh and prepared with care. I had the sashimi roll, which is a no rice roll of salmon, avocado and crab (real crab), wrapped in cucumber. The portions of each ingredient were perfectly balanced. My husband had a two item combination with salmon teriyaki and a spicy tuna roll, which came with miso soup, green salad, sunomono and rice. The teriyaki was savory and not too sweet. The tuna was fresh tasting with a good hot pepper flavor. We liked that the pieces were actually bite sized. Salads, rice and soup were all very good. We almost never order dessert, but the red bean mochi ice cream with little swirls of whipped cream was a nice ending to a wonderful meal. The menu is large and is a reasonable compromise between strictly traditional Japanese fare and items that are not too unusual for the local palate. The restaurant is casual, spotlessly clean and has indoor and outdoor seating. Our Japanese server (possibly an owner?) was kind, professional and efficient. I can't believe we waited so long to try sushi Beluga, but we eill be back very soon.

First time there. Quaint little place. Service was good and the sushi and shashimi was fresh and tasty. I will certainly go there again next time I am in Playa del Rey. Also plenty of parking which is helpful too.

#805. This was ordered for 2 people even though it says for three. In hindsight, could have gotten a platter for four. :)

Glad to have actually made plans to eat here without going enroute to an airport pickup! It's smaller than their sister location, but the menu includes skewers that are perfect if you just want a few different bites. We got one skewer each of the lamb chop, chicken hearts, and chicken gizzards, and 2 each of the seabass and asparagus. Started off with miso soup and a salmon skin salad. Everything was wonderful, cooked just perfectly, and I was particularly impressed by the lamb chop, lightly seasoned and grilled to a perfect medium. I will be back more often, not just as a stop on the way to pick people up from LAX! The food and service make this place a great destination in and of itself.

Cool! So we found this spot that was close enough to meet our empty stomachs. Lucked out with parking in the front. There's parking on the side as well. First thing we noticed was that it was packed! We literally took that last table! The place was bursting with laughter and conversations. People were happy to eat sushi and the ambiance provided that! We ordered mixed tempura, the Otis roll, a phillie roll, and a yellowtail collar. The waiter suggested their plum wine - why yes, we'll have two! Everything was amazing but the star of the show was the Otis roll. Like Otis from the Temptations this has got to be their foundation roll. We savored that roll so much that we ordered a second one. Yes we did! And devoured that one too! We left happy and full! Forgot to do my yelp when the sugar sugar suggested K's a second time not even 2 weeks later. So we eased on down the road to see Otis. So of course we got the uncle Otis roll, K5 which is the most popular, and the yellowtail collar. The waiter recommended their peach wine which my boo got, I stuck with water. Now the K5 is good but the uncle Otis is top tier. We will come visit him at least once a month at a MINIMUM! The boo preferred the peach wine over the plum. As we left the waiter called us back into restaurant. He sat us back down and said, "you're leaving the filet mignon of the collar!" He educated us on the parts of the collar and this piece we left was definitely the best part!! Truly appreciated that golden nugget. I believe his name is Peter; he's a keeper! K's bistro - we will be back and we will attempt to sit at our new favorite table every time we go. Sushi named Otis.....who would have known?

If someone doesn't like Japonica, then they must have defective taste buds!…read more Japonica of El Segundo is absolutely one of the top sushi restaurants in all of the South Bay of Los Angeles. They make my Friday night fish dinner a step in the food-heaven direction. The staff is out of this world, with a lovely manager, attentive servers, and talented chefs. The spicy edamame is a perfect starter if you'd like your plain edamame to have a flavor kick. The portion is big, making it plenty enough for a group of four to enjoy together. Unless you're a glutton like I am and don't feel like sharing, haha. The bluefin carpaccio practically melts in your mouth. The cut of the bluefin is absolutely just what your stomach is craving. Soft, flavorful, and satisfying to say the least. The white lightning is a saucy garlic surprise. The ever so slight sear on the albacore makes this roll have a dance party on your tongue. The garlic butter that the roll sits in has such a great taste that I just want to drink it down. Japonica El Segundo is placed in a small "strip mall" type of location, with on site parking being limited. There are several disabled designated parking spots right in front of the restaurant. Also, there is plenty of parking up & down Main Street, allowing for closeness within walking distance. There are no stairs/steps needed to enter the restaurant and the televisions do have closed-captions. The noise level is mid, making it easy to have comfortable conversations with your party without having to shout. I would absolutely recommend taking a stroll down Main Street after your meal, giving yourself some time to digest, stretch, and maybe get a scoop of ice cream from one of the local spots.

We brought a family friend from Mexico ( expat) here at our last visit May 22. He was very impressed with the massive amount of food presented and how tasty everything was. Other than booths there is a large communal dinning table available for guests. Reservations a must as it's not a large restaurant. Quality & quantity of food is outstanding and we always had prompt and efficient service. Beer & sake offered. Did you know Asahi Beer is made in the USA now? We learned that from the bartender so Kagura opted to serve Orion, an Okinawan beer instead. You can't go wrong for a special Japanese dinner. We always order their special dozen sets!

And the tonkatsu? Legit one of the best I've had--perfectly fried with that golden, crisp exterior that somehow stays light, not greasy, and gives way to juicy, tender pork. The kind where you don't even need sauce... but you'll still use it anyway. What really seals it for me here is the gozen sets. If you're indecisive (or just hungry), this is your place. So many combinations, and everything comes out like a full spread. My current go-to is the steak gozen--basically the "why choose?" option. You get miso soup, salad, tonkatsu, tempura, soba... it just keeps coming. It's generous without feeling overdone, and somehow everything still tastes dialed in. I used to be loyal to the sukiyaki gozen (RIP, still not over it), but the steak set has filled that void nicely. Bottom line: delicious, satisfying, and surprisingly good value for how much you get. If you're in the South Bay and craving a proper Japanese set meal--not a rushed version--this is the move.

I know he had to stay up until midnight on the day the spots were released so it's highly competitive for these 8-seats. Kusano is known for being an intimate experience where Chef Yusu Kusano is a one man show handling all aspects of the business. Since this saves him on overhead, he is able to keep his price point at $160 for an 18 course omakase meal. Their unique dining experience earns them a spot on the Michelin guide. I appreciate how attentive Chef was despite having so much to get done. As the first to arrive, we were able to watch Chef doing some prep work to expedite the experience during the meal. Also he seems to plan in dishes that require less work for him so the guests can be served while he checks on our beverages and other comforts. I also appreciate how we were served in the order in which we arrived, so the early bird gets the first sushi. As for our meal, my boyfriend and I agreed that this is a no frills, nigiri heavy meal. There wasn't too much engagement or story telling from Chef either. The sushi rice could have been better seasoned, which affected most courses since it's a nigiri heavy meal. On the bright side, chef has amazing knife skills and he makes small cuts on certain pieces of fish to make it more tender. On the other hand there are moments where he makes efficient decisions like ripping up the scallop by hand instead of cutting it. On the day of our visit, we were served oyster, hirami, shima aji, hotoke, seabream, ankimo, sardine, amaebi, umedai, miso soup, akami & toro, Hokkaido uni & squid, chutoro handroll, anago, tamago yaki and a yuzu granita. I had a birthday version and this sign behind us generated a cute happy birthday message, so that was a nice touch. This experience is GREAT VALUE, but for me just not too exciting. Just my personal preference that I prefer more interaction and innovation. Great to experience once but I'm not sure I would come back, considering I don't live in the area. I have no doubt they'll still be plenty busy without my patronage due to the pricing.
