Just moved to the Sudden Valley neighborhood. Finally got to try this place! The Chile relleno was so good - the sauce and the melted cheese were on point. I had a crispy chicken taco and crispy beef taco. I also had the skinny margarita. Service was excellent. We got seated right away and were offered water, chips and salsa immediately. We came over on a 7pm Saturday dinner time. It was a bit busy but we were satisfied with the service. We got to enjoy the golf course view and the sunset. read more

Food was decent but nothing special. Will be the last time going though because whenever I order Carne Asada here, they always leave off the mandatory grilled green onion (it's even specified on their menu), and because THIS TIME the service was lousy: (1) the guy seating us (who was also to be the waiter) hassled me for wanting to be seated a couple of tables away from others; (2) not only left off the green onion again but gave me corn tortillas instead of the flour that I ordered; (3) companion ordered prawn quesadilla yet she was served some prawn&veg dish instead. Have come to the conclusion that this place's sole virtue is the location for viewing out the trees. Everything else is sub-standard. read more

Sudden Valley location. Called ahead and asked if they offer a 20% student discount. The girl that answered the phone said that they do, both for sit down and take out. When we got there to get a take out the guy taking our order said that they don't offer this discount at Sudden Valley location. Scammers! A fairly typical Americanized Mexican restaurant. The service can be a bit slow when they get busy in the summer, but that can happen anywhere. The food is exactly what you'd expect and the view of the golf course is nice. The price is a bit more than some Mexican restaurants and a bit less than others. The biggest issue my wife and I have had lately is that they never seem to be open. The last FOUR times we've randomly decided to go here (during their posted business hours mind you) they've been closed with no explanation. read more

It was so nice to go out to an actual restaurant with my husband. They did a good job of enacting covid regulations. Scanning code to access the menu with our smart phones. I just use their website. Started out with drinks, tasty homemade salsa and chips. My husband got the gin and tonic well drink $4 Then later upgraded to a double tanqueray brand gin and tonic $11. I had a lovely jumbo margarita for a super low price of $8.50. I was expecting it to be way more. I love their fresh salsa. I could eat it with a spoon. Dinner was cowboy fajitas.. The carne asada was extremely good and I left full. My husband had a burrito of some sort. We polished off our plates and rolled ourselves out of there. It looks like they probably have karaoke at some point once covid restrictions lift.. I can't wait. Being able to walk here from our home in Sudden Valley was fabulous. And we were close enough to walk to Valley village to grab some ice cream to bring home for the kids. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience. Had one complaint that I brought up to the manager years ago. Been back a few times since then and the service gets worse every time. They are obviously holding a grudge against me because I complained about bad service once. Since then they always take 20min to bring me my check after finished with the meal even when I ask for it right away. These guys are a joke and shouldn't be in business. I listened to a guy for years , talking about how bad the food is at this restaurant... I had to try it out for myself. I found out that the staff is an extremely hard working team ...providing great service and really good food. I came across the gentleman again on my walk and he shared with me that he is a vegetarian...nothing wrong with his choice , but l am sure glad that l tried this restaurant out for myself. I'm not sure if they have a vegetarian option.. I like the food here and the service they provide. read more

Consistently friendly service, if a little slow even with a small number of customers. Food is pretty average but the salsas that come with the chips are quite good. We liked both the cabbage salsa (pico?) and the red salsa. The chips are good enough but certainly nothing special. They have a very good vegetarian menu, especially if you like spinach. They will also swap out for black beans and seem pretty open to customizing to a reasonable extent. I'm looking forward to checking out the patio when the weather is a bit better. I do worry about the steps for those unable to use them. I'm unsure if there's an elevator so that's something to find out before you go if needed. read more

This restaurant is awesome! Me and my family go here quite often when we want something that will fill us up and isn't all the way in town. The staff here is very friendly and we've actually made good friends with the owner and his sons. A great bunch of guys that care about thier business. The view from inside the restaurant is really nice if you get a window seat, or sit out on the deck. On a hot summer day you can see the beautiful green grass of the food course gleaming. Great summer spot without a doubt. The food has always been top notch as well. While it's not the BEST Mexican food I've ever had, it is certainly delicious. I don't have a particular go-to dish. I tend to like to try new things each time I come here. If you're in the area and you want some tasty Mexican cuisine, I'd check this place out, well done! read more

We got take out from here. The food is authentic and really good. I ordered a black bean, cheese, and rice burrito and it was tasty and the potion was large. The prices are reasonable. Very nice staff with SUB-PAR FOOD. The owner has a smart ass attitude, as he thinks its ok to badger me every time I go in. I've sent my food back or let them know they brought the wrong food or forgot something. I've had crispy crunchy dry rice, limp and cold fajitas. The list goes on.... he thinks it's OK to say that I didn't complain this time or what have you. His comments Infuriate my girlfriend and myself!!! It's totally rude and unprofessional to do this to somebody especially in front of my family. Bring back a real restaurant in this location. Cruz, and his staff at El Agave are what make the restaurant. I have enjoyed every meal that I've had, and their drinks are great too! Being that it is so close to home, and easy to get to means a lot as well. Nevermind the charitable donations that Cruz provides to Sudden Valley every year in the form of a breakfast buffet, for the community Breakfast with Santa event. He is a great person, with a big heart. In all, going to El Agave is a very pleasant experience. One where I know that when I walk in, I'm greeted by name, and can usually find a friendly face or two at any time. I am so glad that El Agave is in Sudden Valley! read more

Yes they are open and you can dine in the bar! Ran into 2 friends who were as surprised as we were- thought it was only take out due to some remodeling. The food is still very good. Their menu options are many and varied but I'm in a pleasant rut always ordering a combo with burrito, enchiladas or chimichanga so that's all I can review. They are all consistently good! Mediocre food served well. The food really doesn't have a whole lot of flavor. The margaritas are good and strong. Excellent service. Weird location if you don't know what you're looking for. It's above the clubhouse with steps leading to the entrance. I'm not sure that it's handicap accessible. I'll continue my search for decent Mexican food in the area. read more

People can add more salt, but none can be taken off. Painfully salty. So salty that the flavor is ruined.

Convenient, Not Good (2.5 stars) The food is slightly less than mediocre. Bland tasting beans, dry flavorless rice. The red salsa is okay but then they give you some cabbage "thing" to dip your chips that came out of a bag in. The cabbage "thing" is weird. Maybe if it was fresh, not brown and wilted, it would be great but I didn't get to taste it because it looked sad and gross. Tacos are made with taco shells from a box (which seems to be all you get locally) not fresh or authentic and the lettuce on them itsn't fresh. The chicken tortilla soup looked really good but I haven't tried it. The enchiladas were okay. Tostadas would be okay of the lettuce was fresh. Won't get a burrito here again. They have a full bar which is nice to have something in the area without having to go into town. Margaritas aren't authentic. I haven't tried them because they are all made with bottled sweet & sour instead of fresh limes. They might be great but the citric acid used in the sweet & sour burns my throat and stomach. Service hasn't been great. The staff is always friendly but they miss the mark when it comes to actual good service. Slow service, not attentive when you sit down or don't bring orders/drinks. Once they completely missed one person at our table's order. There was no urgency to bringing the missing order. Everyone at the table was done eating long before the order finally showed up. Multiple people will come to your table but nobody really seems to know what is going on. The views are great and the outdoor space is great in the summer. I go here occasionally purely for convenience. If the food were better, I would probably go there at least once or twice a week. I'm sure this place would be packed regularly if the food improved since there is only one other restaurant in the area (which is always busy). read more

In a tucked away spot in Sudden Valley, amidst the trees and in front of a golf course is El Agave, a family-owned business that dishes up delicious Mexican food. Now that they are open for indoor seating, we decided to treat ourselves to the restaurant. All the staff greeted us like old friends, and were following protocols, seating us at a table that was far away from others which put my mind at ease. We started out with tortilla chips and salsa which were nice, though the salsa too runny to scoop anything. I had the California burrito which was amazing with its seasoned asada, guacamole, cheese and french fries, all rolled up...yum! My partner had carnitas de pollo, a chicken dish with peppers and mushrooms in a sauce on rice which was so big, we had to take half home. My kiwi margarita was a first for me.... so good I had a second. Definitely will return to try more of their menu. read more

Love coming into this place. Staff is kind and welcoming. Foods good, the salsa and chips are amazing and keep coming! My kids love going there for dinner! Friday night after 8pm brings a good laugh with people doing karaoke in the bar. Great place to enjoy a delicious margarita! It's an ideal place for large groups (I have a huge extended family). We always get in, get menus, chips and salsa, and our food without a huge wait. The staff is always accommodating if something isn't right or you need something special.
