Loyal customer for about twenty years, but I find myself writing this review because something needs to be done. The tamales I ordered for my brothers bday today were horrible. 6 pork 6 cheese - they tasted bad we had to throw them. Our Rosca was soooo dry! A co worker brought one of her own and we couldn't believe the differences. The avena and champurrado and conchas never disappoint. They were good. I've been looking for a new place for pan dulce and tamales. This is not the one. Unlike some stores where you can get your bread yourself, this one is pulled from behind a glass case by an employee. The piece pictured is one of two that looked edible from the top but when we got it home it has this weird black moldy stuff on the underside. We also got a few tamales, red pork which was OK, and green chile cheese that was terrible. I don't know what type of cheese is used but it was a rubbery lump that squeaked when chewed it. I pushed the cheese aside and tried to eat only the masa, but the last half was raw. How can a shop stay in business selling such poor quality foods. read more

I think I came here about 14 years ago with a boyfriend, and the quality of their pan dulce was great. But now you don't get the same service, ingredients must've changed, their prices skyrocketed. But their empanadas are awful, emaciated, and decrepit triangles that just fall apart in the bag. I recall paying a sh@t-load for something that I was embarrassed to share with my dad. It was baked for the sole purpose of throwing it in the rubbish bin. I will not be back. El Pavo nearby, stuffs their wheat empanada full of calabaza and are delicious and hearty. Excellent bakery, I come down hear about twice a month to buy bread for my parents and in laws, and they all love it. I understand the complaints about prices going up but I mean everyone needs to wake up and realize that prices are going up everywhere. What?...The price of bread is suppose to stay the same while cost of ingredients and labor goes up? This place is family owned and has to do what it needs to do to survive during times of inflation. Old school since 1973. This is a neighborhood staple and every time I come here there are customers picking out their favorite baked goods. The interior is small but they offer a wide range of baked goods and the line was out to the sidewalk. It was Xmas eve and my daughter requested for me to buy some tamales, usually they are sold out but this time around they had them in stock. Pan Dulce is excellent. I don't live in area any more but make it a point to stop by if in town for some although super pricing. Tamales are the worse. Masa was not fully cooked near meat area of tamale. A lot of masa with no taste, the filling was not tasty as well. Wasted $13 on 4 tamales. Literally did not eat 2 of the 4 and haven't opened the other 2. Costco tamales are better than these. Will never buy tamales from here again. read more

I thought I heard wrong when the rude woman told us the prices. $4.25 for a piece of Mexican sweet bread, are you kidding? I know prices have gone up but that's exaggerated. We still purchased sweet bread to support small businesses, boy what a mistake that was. The bread was old, stale and not eatable. Some advice, go to El Pavo instead for a lot better and cheaper sweet bread or Big Saver Foods down the street. These places won't disappoint. Great for the tummy and easy on your wallet. Also, did not care for the woman there. She was bothered that we asked for the prices. Never smiled and just gave us a lot of attitude. This bakery needs a serious, major make over. I read about this place a few weeks ago when looking for tamales. I finally tried it. I bought a pork, chicken and cheese tamale. The tamales were very tasty and there was an ample amount of filling. I wish there was a little more sauce infiltrating the masa but it wasn't super dry. While waiting I couldn't resist the concha and had to buy one. This was the best one I've had in a long time. Great service and super friendly employees. I've tried all of their aguas frescas because when I can't decide they'll always offer me a sample of both! They aren't stingy. Their tamales are the best tamales I can purchase at a store or from a bakery. Their bread is great and the cakes are good. I like that they also offer special design cakes which allows room for creativity. The champurrado is yummy, and you can purchase several ounces that will come in a convenient container to help keep it warm. The best part of the bakery??? The smell of fresh pan dulce!! Only the fast moving products are goid such as the holiday or the conchas. They don't dispose of old items. Today I purchased some tamales and was disgusted. The tamales smell like they have been sitting in a dirty refrigerator for a week. The masa tasted freezer burned. I don't understand how they can put out such a horrible product.
