2 of the sopes of the 4 that came with the order. We are the other two too fast for me to capture them in the photo

Omg...the food was amazing! We had the albóndigas and the sopes appetizers. Then the steak tacos. I also had the mango margarita :-) Everything tasted fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this place!

The items on the menu we have tried have been of great quality and taste. The Carne Asada tacos, the Steak fajitas, the pozole, the steak tampiquena, the 3 moles.... I can see why some reviews have complained about the cost....the prices are more like what you would find in Chicago's "trendy" food areas....sadly, most of those restaurants never live up to the hype... I would say it would be a big mistake to lessen the quality of the ingredients just to lower the prices. I know I would be able to tell if this happened. Other restaurants have done this due to the high costs of ingredients, no fault of the restaurants, but every restaurant does what it needs to do to try and stay open. With that said, perhaps some ala carte options would help lessen the price of a meal at El Alebrije. I do hope the restaurant does well, but I am thinking that the clientele in the local area is probably more cost conscious and looking for a bigger bang for the buck when it comes to a sit down restaurant, especially with other Mexican restaurants in the area. Anyways, in terms of the food....El Alebrije is excellent and will continue to dine here as long as the quality stays consistent.

Ice cream and churro's with cajeta!

Clean, friendly and food was really good, my favorite party were the fruity drinks. Definitely going back!

Beautiful, delicious, handmade, authentic Mexican food, almost too pretty to eat, the plating is so artful! Been here several times and sampled much of the menu, loved every bite! Friendly and attentive service too, great experience!

I was excited to see this restaurant opened close to my home and had my 18 year-old son. Stop to pick up dinner. Unfortunately I was frustrated with a few things. First, prices are very high. Three taco dinners plus a kids taquitos came to $108. Also, my son went through the drive-through and when he checked out, he claims there was no option not to tip. I don't think tipping should be expected in a drive-through. Also, the kids taquitos was ridiculously small for $13. See the attached photoof his meal before even touching it. I will say that the food seemed good quality. But the meat was very bland and seemed to have very little seasoning.

They're incredibly friendly and actually take the time to remember their customers, which gives the place such a personal and community feel. The atmosphere is relaxed, comfortable, and perfect whether you're meeting friends or just unwinding after a long day. They have a really good selection of draft beers and cocktails, so there's always something great to try. The food is amazing too -- definitely beyond what you'd expect from a neighborhood bar. One thing I really appreciate is that they use beef tallow to fry their food, which gives everything incredible flavor and feels like a healthier, more traditional option compared to seed oils. This has quickly become one of my favorite spots. I keep coming back just to hang out, grab a beer or cocktail, and enjoy the welcoming vibe. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!

All of the servers I have had wait on our tables have been knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. My favorite appetizer (one that I return for far too often) is the Brussel Sprouts with balsamic drizzle, goat cheese, and sun-dried tomatoes. Pure perfection. The cowboy steak salad is delicious and while I don't eat most the pickled jalapeño in it (too many are too spicy for me), I never request them to be taken out because they add a wonderful kick even if I pull them out myself. Many other favorites on the menu!

Everything came out fresh, flavorful, and we enjoyed what we ordered. The Buzzkill pizza was delicious, and the appetizer platter was a great option for the table. Unfortunately, the service really took away from the experience. It took about 10 minutes before anyone came over to seat us, another 10-15 minutes before someone took our order, and when our Snap Into It salad arrived (for a party of three), it only came with two pieces of bread, so we had to ask for a third. At the end of the meal, we waited around 20 minutes just to get our check. The surprising part was that the restaurant wasn't busy at all, so the slow service was hard to understand. The food was definitely the highlight, but because of the overall service experience, I don't think I'd return.

Smells amazing the whole time. Staff was great. Sean helped us out and gave some solid recommendations. We went with the pepperonly pizza. When it hit the table, the presentation looked amazing. First bite... that was it. The crust had that perfect crunch on the outside but still soft inside. You could taste that wood-fired char, just enough to give it that smoky edge. The cheese was melted just right, stretchy and hot. The sauce had a nice balance, a little tangy, a little sweet, not overpowering anything. The pepperoni was the best part. Crispy on the edges, a little oily in a good way, and full of flavor. Every bite just worked. Thin, balanced, nothing too heavy. If you like pizza, this is one of those spots you gotta try. I'd go back for that one easy.

The atmosphere was very "we're better than you," which is ambitious considering half the room looked genetically connected to famine survivors and dock workers. The confidence level in that building deserves scientific study. I walked in expecting casual dining and somehow ended up in what felt like an audition for "Medieval Lords of the Suburbs." The staff acted like they were protecting ancient bloodlines instead of refilling ranch dressing. At one point I honestly wanted to ask: "Sir, are you judging me... while wearing a polo shirt with barbecue sauce on it?" The energy was aggressively holier-than-thou for a place where the main cultural contribution is fried appetizers and vodka seltzer. To be fair, the food was fine. But the side of racial superiority was a little harassing for my ego. If you're looking for a place to drink with historic levels of racism and naturally redheaded bartenders, this is the place for you!

For appetizers I ordered the Tempura Shrimp and I really liked that ALL the food came out steaming hot. I didn't catch our waitress's name but she was informative and kind from the beginning. She even told us they host comedy shows there, which is such a nice touch. I will definitely be returning, especially once warmer Chicago days arrive and their patio can fully be enjoyed.
