I love Mexican food, especially Cafe Salsa!! The food is delicious, great atmosphere and servers that go above and beyond! My fiancé and I have never been here before. We were going to go to Pepe's across the street but it looked kind of ragged. So we saw this place and thought, why not? Our waiter was Juan. He was very nice and he said he was making our drinks. Well, other than not having a traditional margarita glass...they were very good. The chips appeared to be homemade and the salsa was very good. They kept up on our chips and salsa (we were very hungry). She had tacos and I had a steak burrito sulzo style. It was ok. Had better but had worse as well. The ambiance was okay. I thought La Chilanguita in Lyons was the worst burrito I had, this place superseded that. I paid extra for the "grilled" meat version, a $20 dollar burrito that turned out to be the frozen chicken strips one would find at Walmart. This burrito was halfway filled, and mostly SOUR CREAM per my attached pics. This was my 2nd chance with this joint, I had tried the mahi mahi tacos previously which had scant shreds of fish which I am certain were NOT actually mahi mahi. And a crappy steak and mushroom quesadilla. Previous unhappy reviewers mentioned the owner had run the Pepe's across the street and the quality aligns. Also, for this place being called Cafe SALSA , they occasionally throw in salsa and chips (didn't even get any last time) which are very bland, and they will give you NO hot sauce with your order, wtf. Go to Taco Taco, Cocula, even Chipotle would be better if u need to stay local. No idea how this place stays in business read more

SO LOUD! No one could talk to each other. And the waiter couldn't here what anyone ordered. Two children wanted hard shell tacos which he said they had. They got soft shell tacos. And I ordered a seltzer with lime, a bar drink. They charged me $8 dollars for 2 tiny bottles of sparkling water. It was a $165 disaster that lasted less than an hour. Food was warm upon arrival. The burrito and taco dinners were decent fare, served with beans and rice. I opted out on the beans and doubled up on the rice. Cons: The salsa was bland, as if it was missing something. With salsa in the name, I guess I had higher expectations for the salsa. The chips were too hard. Overall: It's an average Mexican restaurant, lacking in flavor but I've had better and worst. Will try again at some point but will likely order just the entree al la carte. read more

My fiancé and I love coming here in the summer and eating on their outdoor patio! I usually order the create your own with a veggie quesadilla and beef taco, side of rice and beans. I also love their house chips and salsa as well as sangria. My boyfriend often orders something else and last time we went he got the ahi tuna tacos but was disappointed because it was just cooked tuna tacos and not actually ahi tuna which should be seared, false advertising on the menu. The service was great, it was a little busy in the restaurant. They also have a patio for outdoor dining in the back of the restaurant, they give you free basket of chips and salsa. And a tall water pitcher, I tried the Baja fish tacos those were great, the Spanish rice is decent, 5 out of 10, the black beans had a nice texture, 6 out of 10. The Baja tacos get a 10 out of 10. I would get those again. Our server Myra she was great, but she did forget my side of Chipotle sauce until about halfway done with my tacos, I already finished 1 taco, now the chipotle sauce had a nice heat and added more flavor to the taco. I definitely recommend the chipotle sauce, I tried a little sample of the tamale my dad got on his combination platter, that was a good tamale, 10 out of 10. I do wish the taco dinner came with 1 more taco, somebody was celebrating their birthday there and the music on the speakers stopped to announce a birthday in the house. It was a recording of a marachi band, singing happy birthday in English, I was surprised it wasn't in Spanish. The servers are bilingual they can speak both English and Spanish, I really appreciate the welcoming, friendly atmosphere of the servers, however a busboy or whoever cleared off a dirty table broke glass dishes, and the whole restaurant stopped and stared at the commotion I felt bad for the employee, but mistakes happen. read more

I'm super picky when it comes to Mexican food but I loved this little place. We all got maragritas or sangria for a solid price. They don't have regular queso but they have queso fundido. It was tasty! It came out with 4 little tortillas but there was 5 of us. However, the server (I think also manager??) kept us stacked with chips. He was the sweetest and made our experience so much fun! Our whole table got quesadillas (all 5 of us) and they were so cheesy!! But so yummy. We also needed to use 5 different cards for paying and our server had no problem splitting our tab. I would definitely go again just for the friendly service and quesadillas (and drinks).
