We tried a variety of Arepas and enjoyed all but our favorite were the chicken and that's probably just a preference thing. This place is a local gathering spot for the Venezuelan community. I was in the area and wanted to check it out, so I stopped in for a bite to eat. I had the arepa reina pepiada and a few chicharrones sold by the pound, so you can ask for as many or as few as you like. They also carry assorted bakery items such as empanadas, tequeños, etc. It's a gas station with this cafeteria on one side and a convenience store on the other side. This place doesn't serve good arepas. Service is mediocre and manager was quite rude to the group in front of ours. The environment felt off and the reason they were rude to the people in front is because apparently they found a bug in their food. I think I would felt pretty bad. Parking: The restaurant is located at a gas station, the parking lot is free but it is small. Service: The staff was attentive and cordial. It has no waiter, you order and wait for the food. Food quality: It is a true Venezuelan food (I know because I am Venezuelan). Portions are large. You will find the famous empanadas that can be stuffed with meat/chicken/cheese /cazon (type of fish), cachapas (it is a corn dough stuffed with cheese), arepas (Options: Yellow Cheese, Ham, Hand Cheese, Pernil or Grated White Cheese), tequeños, patacón, and pepitos (this is my boyfriend's favorite). Then you have different lunch options (a combination of meat, chicken, rice, pasta, and among others). We order cheese empanada (I love it), cachapa with guayanes cheese, and a pabellón criollo (one of the typical Venezuelan dishes. Rice, banana slices, meatloaf, and black beans). Price: Prices are standard (you have to consider the fact that you are in Miami and everything there is more expensive compared to another part of Florida). We ordered 3 courses for $22. Wow, after burning down, and dealing with the red tape of Doral Permits they have reopened. MUCH MUCH better than before. They separated the interior and now the restaurant is just that. The selection of arepas are great, the price ranges from $1.75 for a simple one to around $6 depending on what you fill it with. They also have full lunches with rice, beef, chicken, rice, maduros, soup... well, just a whole lot of really good food. They also have tequenos, empanadas, patacones and a few other things I can't remember. We thought we were coming for a late light lunch and would have to make dinner later. Forget it!! I got the shredded chicken and my hubby the shredded beef, we shared a chicken soup. In each of the empanadas there was at least 6 oz. of protein! Plus the soup? I am stuffed! The gentleman who was taking care of us and training the cashier was incredibly friendly, helpful and just a real nice guy Great Job Arepazo! Quick rundown: Staff looked miserable very rude/un-welcoming Cachapas were just okay didn't have much corn flavor but the cheese made it taste good I guess. Tequenos were hard and cold Guyaba juice was warm Arepa was flat and crusty instead of round and plump. Patacon was okay but for the price the portion was very small. Place is at a gas station which is next to a convince store but don't expect to find many Venezuelan products there. They had Polar and Arena Pan but way overpriced. Finally reopened - it had burned down in May 2009 - but it was rebuilt and opened again for business last week. So far it has a lot of promise, a huge improvement from the previous one. Service is friendly and much more organized, the menu consists on Venezuelan Arepas which totally hit the spot. We will no doubt return and will update the review accordingly. The arepas here are okay - although my aunt prefers the arepas at Don Pan in Doral which I've also reviewed. The arepas here however, she contested, comes with more variety of fillings. Additionally, because it's also a tiny Venezuelan market, there's a lot of Venezuelan cheeses. This is a better spot to get an arepa with queso Guayanes or any other type of cheese since Don Pan don't really stock up on those things. Also, the carne mechada (stewed shredded beef akin to the Cuban ropa vieja) and the reina pepeada (akin to a chicken salad) filling are popular here. You can drink them down with a Frica - a Venezuelan brand (owned by Parmalat) fruit juice drink. The prices here are better than that at Don Pan for the arepas. I wish I knew the names of them because I want to order them a million times more. The prices range from $2-$7 an arepa. I had a chicken arepa with some sort of cheese. It's not a good place to order take out. The arepa was super greasy and not easy to eat. To make matters worse, I had food poisoning that night.
