I'm writing the very first Yelp review for this place - which could set the tone for future reviews so I'm going to keep it positive in the hopes that the business will thrive. Downtown Coloma is a bit depressed so anytime a new business wants to take a risk - I'm inclined to give them some enthusiastic support. This was my first visit here, my husbands 2nd (he wasn't very impressed the first time but he ordered fish!). I convinced him to give it another try and suggested he order something a bit more traditional. We went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and it was late in the day (around 2pm) which could explain why we were the only people in the place. The chips and salsa on the table were fresh and good. Our server was pleasant and efficient with our order. I had chicken tacos with a side of rice/beans and my hubby had carne asada. Our food was served quickly and was hot and looked appetizing (see the picture). I have to say, the rice and beans were excellent, as were the tacos and carne asada. The only drawback in my opinion is that the meat was seasoned with something that made it look a pale, greenish gray - maybe cumin?? The meat tasted fine it just didn't look very appetizing. I would absolutely try this place again (and probably would order the same thing). We usually go to a Mexican restaurant in Benton Harbor so it's nice to have one in the neighborhood. read more

We decided to try this restaurant for the first time tonight. The service was wonderful, super nice waitress, the atmosphere is pleasant, everything was clean. Unfortunately, the food was just ok. The guacamole had a ton of onions in it so it was overpowering. It also has cilantro and tomato in it, all ingredients were fresh. I got veggie plate N which had a cheese enchilada, bean tostada, rice, and beans. The rice was perfect, great taste and texture. Tostada was yummy, enchilada was alright, a bit dried out. My husband had a chicken fajita burrito, he said it could have used more cheese and sour cream. We will probably be going again. It's nice to see new places pop up in Coloma. read more

We stopped by here during a Covid camping trip. This place was absolutely legit! The food was phenomenal! I can't say anything about atmosphere or really much about service as it was during Covid and we couldn't eat in. I will say our food was amazing, it was hot, and it was ready at the time they said it was. It was some of the best and authentic Mexican food I have ever had! read more

The hubs family has a lake house in Coloma. Thought we'd check out this place yesterday night. Food was great for the most part. Service was not great but they did accommodate us closer to close (they close @ 9pm on Saturday). Food: LOVED their salsa. Got the cheese dip that was average but when mixed w the salsa is yum. Server suggested their nachos with chicken, streak & shrimp. So we got it. It was great. All the proteins were perfectly seasoned. There was no avocado/guacamole or beans on the nachos. Which is weird to us. Hubs got the carne Asada and was not impressed. He barely ate any and didn't take the left overs home. I had the chile relleno and was blown away with the flavors. Prob in the top 3 I've ever had. I get chile relleno at every place that offers it! Got the fried ice cream dessert which was far kid heaven for us. Service. So they weren't horrible just weird. The server would bring something snd say "anything else" as he's walking away every time! By the time we got his attention we both needed beverage refills & salsa refilled! So that part was meh but over all happy to have a tasty Mexican place in town! Hubs looks forward to trying something new. More like 3.5 than 3 for us. read more

I was in on 12/6. I ordered $21.18 in food and was charged $41.18 on my credit card. Someone (Jonathan) gave themselves a nice $20 tip on a take out order no less. When I called to ask them what they had to say for themselves, they said they must have put the decimal in the wrong place. Really? They didn't think a $20 tip on a takeout order was strange and do a double take? They are thieves. Make sure if you go in here, you pay with cash or take a receipt and check your cc statement later. It's unfortunate because I frequented this place often before this and recommended them to many people. That will never happen again. This is foolish business practice. I am incredibly disappointed to have been stolen from and then lied to by the thief in question when he was caught red handed. read more

We drove all the way from Chicago to Michigan and bumped into this little gem, Asadero. What a treat! Service was outstanding. Sophia was attentive, friendly and courteous. The food was outstanding. No flavor was spared in our dishes. The portions were generous and plates had good presentation. I will be remiss if I don't mention the tasty drinks. I had a tamarind margarita and loved it. This place gave us such a pleasant experience. You won't be disappointed. read more

Once again using Yelp while traveling we discovered this place and so happy we did. I had the burrito, taco, and rellano combination (chicken) and my wife had the Pollo Supreme. Both were over the top delicious. We had chips and salsa and they were perfect! Seriously this was one of the best Mexican restaurants we've had the pleasure to try. This a a popular Mexican restaurant located in the Main St of Coloma. They serve alcohol but are family popular for their food. I have been here on several occasions and enjoyed the food with one exception . The last time we ordered 2 burrito dinners as take out with a side of chips and salsa. The order was complete and warm when we arrived with a generous portion of very flavorful salsa. The only thing I didn't enjoy were the green beans and carrots inside my burrito. Yep! It looked like they were added as filler. . So no more burritos for me. I don't like cooked carrots. read more

This is a nice small authentic Mexican diner. We had the empanadas first. The meat inside was amazing but the outer shell was a bit over cooked and hard. I had an outstanding Chorizo burrito smothered in their homemade sauce. Then they brought out their secret sauce, homemade hot sauce that is. Both were spicy but also flavorful! I particularly liked their verde sauce but I am partial to that. My wife had a chimichanga special and while she loved the flavor of the meat, it had beans inside and she is far from a fan of beans so that was a disappointment for her. Stopped here while coming back home from Chicago. It happens to be at the same exit as the Chocolate truffle place down the road. Great pricing and food is pretty delicious, I tried the tripe burrito and was very happy. Portions are a good size so you won't be walking out thinking you had a small portion. There is an ice cream shop part of this place, so a fun treat on your way out. read more

Good Food!!!! Friendly service!! We were here for lunch--they have s fairly extensive menu with lots of veggie options, which I appreciate. The chips & salsa were delicious--my favorite type of salsa...not too chunky, not too spicy, but full of flavor. They are open at 8am for breakfast and I look forward to trying it! Not the prettiest interior space--ambience needs some improvement. But overall a tasty meal for a reasonable cost. read more

A week ago I would have given this restaurant 3-4 stars. It was never great, but it was solid, and right in Coloma. So, what happened? I was there yesterday and got some fries. They were those sorry GFS fries, but no big deal. Anyhow, I used a little ketchup from s Heinz bottle and ... the sugary, watery taste of knockoff ketchup. I said to my wife, "they're filling Heinz bottles with cheap, knockoff ketchup." "No way," she said. "I'm telling you! Check the expiration date on the bottle - I bet they've been using that bottle for years." We checked - January, 2015. They've been refilling old plastic Heinz bottles - bottles that are NOT designed to be refilled, and it didn't look clean - for years. Shame. read more

Tacos, rice, and beans we're good. Service was okay. Ambiance was gross. I felt like it was dirty and the lack of air conditioning aided in the overall feeling of gross. We stopped here for a bite to eat while on a road trip. The menu is pretty large and it has a variety of meat options, including tongue and tripe. I settled on a beef huarache and a strawberry pina colada. Both were very tasty and filling. Service was quick and the waitress was very nice. I had breakfast here and was very happy with the selection of the menu and the quality of the food! They have traditional breakfast selections such as biscuits and gravy, omelets and skillets and also mexican selections. I order the chilaquiles and it was perfect. A little bit of spice and everything was cooked perfectly! Other people I was with loved to hash browns. We also enjoyed the side of fresh fruit and the wonderful hibiscus drink they make in house. Stopped at this diner-style restaurant serving Mexican cuisine on a trip to Chicago. I was intrigued by the Colombian dishes on the menu & tried the El Jibarito (pollo). I would absolutely come back & eat that again. The cassava fries were also excellent. The waiter asked if we wanted hot sauce & I said yes. He brought out two sauces, the first of which was a green tomatillo salsa with good flavor and little heat. The second sauce, red with a habanero flavor and equivalent kick, he warned me was hotter. I ate here for the first and last time. My 2 tostadas de carne asada which came out cold and with barely any meat. My son had 2 tamales , they were hard and the consistency was like chewing on a thick sponge! Worst tamales ever! My daughter had enchiladas which were so salty. Federico (moved the family from Cicero to Coloma) opened this spot about 2 years ago. I've seen the evolution and its impressive. You get the family vibe. Son works the counter and services customers. The wife makes the to-order shake and ice cream. Standouts for me are the chicken quesadilla. It's not the typical bland flat flour tortilla "con queso y pollo". Been there too many times. The chicken is well seasoned and just enough cheese to be called queso. Not overwhelming. The quacamole could use a kick but just ask and you'll get it. Overall a solid effort. read more

We ordered items with steak. Highly recommend, as the meat is very tasty! Tampiqueno dish with skirt steak, the smothered burrito, and the steak quesadilla appetizer. The chips and salsa both tasted homemade--my young kids enjoyed them even though the salsa had a slight kick which usually doesn't fly with them. The food is decent and its nice to have Colombian food choices locally. However, it is a little pricey. I can get tacos in Watervliet or Benton Harbor for significantly less....and there is more meat in them. Same thing with the Jarritos.....way over priced compared to other local outlets. read more

This is a great spot. Stopped if to give it a try on my way to Chicago. Neat and clean interior with plenty of space to sit. We were driving through the area coming back from Chicago and looking for lunch. Looked at several options and decided on trying out El Asadero. I can't imagine how any other options would have been better! I ordered 2 tacos de carne asada and 1 de al pastor, and they were all delicious! The salsas they provided were authentic and homemade. More importantly, they were spicy which is how all salsas should be! My husband ordered the torta especial which had a little bit of everything (chicken, lunch meat, hot dogs, eggs, cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato, pineapple), and he loved it. We also ordered horchatas and they were delicious. On the way out, we ordered mangonadas which I have never seen around my part of Michigan (Ann Arbor area), so it was a nice surprise. Overall, it was nice to find authentic Mexican food (this is coming from a Mexican-American, so I have high standards) at a great price! Service was fast and polite.
