Went here for the first time while I was sick to get pozole. The guys in there were really nice but the b***h that claims she is the owner is rude as hell. I asked for a cup of ice she said why for what? I said I have never had a waiter asking why I need a cup of ice she said do u want me to charge you? I needed s cup of ice as I wanted a sip of sprite from my spouse but did not want to get him sick in the same straw and cup. The waiter left came back and said what are you gonna do about it. Alright, so I figure a review update is probably appropriate, given that in spite of my painful experience, we are back, less than a month later, ordering another two bowls of hot menudo soup. This place is one of the best sit-down Mexican restaurants in town. To start, their tortilla chips, which are freshly made, are thin and have just the right amount of crispiness. Their salsa is good, but if you're looking for something more spicy, they have an extra spicy salsa option on request. It is concentrated and spicy enough to use as a hot sauce condiment for your menudo, tacos or burrito. I recommend their menudo, special burrito, tacos and posole. You can tell from the incredible flavor of the posole soup that it's probably been cooking for hours. The pork is very lean and surprisingly tender. It comes with a lot of hominy and a plate of radish, cabbage and corn tortilla (you're supposed to mix all the veggies into the soup). The posole makes for a fairly light meal, so if you're hungry, I'd order a couple of tacos in addition. I usually top my meal off with their refreshing flan dessert. read more

The food here is always good. I always order the same thing, 3 items with rice and beans. The shredded beef is so good so whether it's tacos, enchiladas, tostada, burrito it's amazing! Chicken is good too. Oh and the garlic shrimp. Service is always good as well. read more

On Sunday, 3/22/21, I was craving some authentic tacos, but I, already had leftovers, but on Monday, 3/23/21, so I went to El Azteca, which we used to go to many times, while our children were young. I order the Dos Tacos Combinationes (2 Taco Combo), to go. She said that my meal would be ready in 15 to 20 minutes. So, I arrive at the restaurant in 15 minutes. Well, there was no one at the Entrance Desk to greet me and no checking to see if someone entered the Restaurant. It took her a little while to wait on me. I explained I had an order to go. When she comes back with my meal and I handed her my money, she asks me if I'd like my change? WHAT!? You don't ask at the get-go, if someone has change coming to them, you give them their change, and then, if the service is good one will receive a tip, but not usually on a take-out order. So, she comes back with my change, holding it very tightly, and I find out that she short-changed me. I decided to let it go, since I waited long enough. So, anyway, I get home, ready to eat what I thought would be a fabulous dinner! Well, it was cold!!! The taco was way too crispy and very greasy!!! I, actually, wanted the soft flour tortillas, but maybe they only use the corn ones, but I don't know since I wasn't offered a choice. I, also, received chips and salsa, which I wasn't expecting, BUT, I ate 3 chips with salsa because the container that the salsa came in was extremely small for the number of chips in the bag, plus the salsa was mainly juice. There were 20 chips, which I was NOT able to put salsa on, because of the lack of it. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO disappointed!!! I will never eat at this Restaurant, again! read more

The michilada's are delicious. They make your mouth water. I totally recommend it. Their chips and salsa they're tasty. I had the shrimp cocktail. It was good, the only thing I wish it was cold. Found this establishment on yelp with a 4 star rating, but not sure how. The establishment is very dark and old. Not the vibe I want when eating. There are no napkins on the table. It took more than 45 minutes to get our food and the establishment only had 3 tables with folks. We got our food first, and there were other folks there before us. They don't have a drink menu and the server wasn't helpful. The host kept stopping by to ask if someone took our drink order and did someone take our food order. Even she noticed things were taking along time. The rice was dry and the meat tasted like it was going on day 3 of being cooked. No worries, I didn't live in the Fairfield area, so I won't be returning and will not recommend. read more

I was craving tamales that day. My dad and I walked into Sunset Grill (since we had never been there before) and looked over their menu, after finding that they didn't have any tamales we asked the cashier at the counter where the best tamales she's ever had were at. She referred us to El Azteca. The location is kinda tricky. Unless your looking at the board signs as your driving by, you won't easily find it. It was located down some ally way looking street. When we got inside we must have been standing at the counter for like 10 minutes before someone walked up to the front counter .... 10 minutes is a long time especially when there was only two couples there being served. The waitress was fantastic. She was really nice, checked on us often, and served us salsa and chips as soon as we were seated ... they didn't seem fresh, but they were really good. The menu was a bit confusing. Choices were all over the place, and the "make your own" combo was confusing, especially when not all your choices are listed. However when we got our food, it was hot, tasty, and well portioned. I definitely enjoyed the food and would go there again. read more

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. My husband and I have been coming here for years. I LOVE their chile relleno - very tasty. I like to dump the salsa on their rice and beans, so good to eat it that way for me. My husband's favorite are their tostadas - he gets them every time we visit. This is a difficult place to find, so if you can locate It down a ally it's so worth it! Try to ignore a throwback look because the food is worth. The service is almost always very polite and almost feels like family you haven't seen in a while. The food is very good and always enough to fill your appetite. I love the salsa and chips! We decided to order here from door dash based on the reviews. We were really disappointed. The Menudo was inedible. No flavor whatsoever. It didn't seem seasoned at all, like maybe they just soaked pork rinds in it. The tacos were really dry which could of been helped with lime, but I didn't receive any. The side of rice was alright. I've eaten here couple times a month after finding this place. It the closest I've found to my childhood favorite that closed in Alameda about 10yr. ago. There used to be holes in the walls & rips in the seats when I first started coming here over a year ago & I was skeptical, but that has long since been taken care of. It's clean with kitschy colors & decorations. I drive 20miles to come here & usually make it a shopping day at TJ's to justify the distance. I had late lunch today, about 1:45pm on Cinco De Mayo!! They were busier than I've ever seen them! With most tables occupied & some large groups too! Yet service was still friendly, fast & impeccable! They remember me & bring my drink before I even order & remember my usual even when I add a few variations. Food came fast, delicious & on point as I noticed most others also recieved that same service. Which was attentive & friendly. My wife and I have been enjoying this establishment for years , and we were always satisfied. The last we went there we were disappointed. Tonight o thought we would try again. Totally disappointed. I ordered the salad in a shell with ground beef . It had 3/4 of the shell was lettuce. And couldn't even find the ground beef . The lettuce must of been wet because the bottom of my shell was mush. My wife ordered the burrito with ground beef same thing little meet filled with rice . I picked up the order to go and asked for there hot sauce , they told me it was 2.00. I said for 2 tablespoons of hot sauce . They said we only give mild with there dinners included . I said then trade the two mild for 2 hot Told me no . Definitely will Not Be Back . Service- Service was kind of slow at Lunch time considering that there was barely anyone in there. We stood around for a few minutes before someone finally came to the front to tell us it was "seat yourself" Food- This is where it fails hard for me. No street tacos in this place? what?! Be prepared to pay extra for chips and salsa after the initial runs out, hope they get that food out fast. We've eaten there every week for years. The last couple of times there have been issues with the wrong food given and charging now for salsa and chips. The last time was this week when I asked for one little salsa per dinner on a to-go order (4), and the employee said they now only give 2 no matter how many meals you order, and only one bag of chips. After a "discussion" the employee said from now on you have to pay $4.50 for 2 salsas so everyone that ordered a meal could have one. We'll, they recently raised their prices about 33%, and now you have to buy salsa. No thanks. We won't be spending our money every week there any longer-there are plenty of other places with excellent food and better service. read more

The family taco dinner, twelve tacos, crispy or street, chips and salsa and rice and beans.....killer. This happens weekly in my home which is great because it means I don't have too cook. I cook on average four nights a week and this is my favorite treat. I could easily eat eight to ten tacos a day and not fell bad about it. I love their crispy tacos especially the beef, but they are all good. Their refried beans are more savory than most other Mex restaurants so they are so much better, rice is average. Their Carne Asada super burrito plus crema and guac is also to die for but bring your big kid panties because its a lot of food. What really makes this place special is the customer service they are always very organized, attentive and sweet. If this wasn't located in the worst shopping mini mall strip in Fairfield it really would be top tier. Still, if you ae having a hankering for authentic Mexican food give them a whirl. read more

It's been almost a year since my last review. Nothing hast changed. My husband & I were visiting and we made sure that we came here. I'm only reviewing again because my order was really extra and I may or may not have been difficult. I love their menudo, but I also like their posole. So I requested if I could have the meat from the menudo served with the soup from the posole. It's different, but I thought it was pretty clever. They did it for me!! And on top of that they dealt with the rest of my family. And all seven of us left full & satisfied. Their chips and salsa still good. The shrimp quesadilla still bomb. I have eaten here so many times and it has always been delicious. They are pricey and if you add anything they charge you but usually wellnwotlrth it. I know we are in hard times, but I ordered take out from here a few days ago spent over 50 dollars and it was awful. My husband had a Carne asada burrito he said his wasn't too bad but my daughters and I got carnitas burritos and after one bite we were done. The carnitas looked as if they were heated up over and over and when bit into the chuncks they were extremely hard. It was very disappointing and a waste of money. read more

Holy Frijole -- This place was superb. On a whim, I tried this place with my BFF over the weekend. Uhh, yes, of course I mobile yelped quickly to make sure everything was on the up and up. Here's a breakdown on the goods: o Chips and Salsa - Made fresh, hot and tasty o Chicken Taco - YUM YUM o Cheese Enchilada - YUM mole sauce, totally hearted it, totally o Arroz and Frijoles - perfection! Plus our waitress was a rockstar...totally sweet. Prices are A-OK but portions were small. Small is good but its always nice to have some to take home for later. No such luck here. I came here this morning with my grandmother who raved about the quality of the food here. She's a huge fan of their burritos so I came in here with high expectations. Our server was amazing. She was friendly, welcoming and very attentive. The chips and salsa were the bomb. Chips were hot and fresh, the salsa was more on the mild side but it was still very yummy. I ordered the super burrito with shredded beef and my grandmother ordered a burrito with ground beef. We both got cheese and sauce added to it. I'm willing to believe that I came in on an off day and that because we came so early the kitchen wasn't on a roll. We were the first order of the day and it showed. My burrito was not flavorful. Too much cheese, way too much sour cream, not enough beans, the rice was good, but the shredded beef was sparingly added to the mix. My grandma's burrito was the same. The cheese just tasted off. We both came home and got very sick. I would definitely come back and try something different because this just feels like a fluke. I want to try the menudo. :) read more

I came here with my family one day because I had a taste for tacos. After trying their shredded beef tacos I was hooked and I became a regular customer. Some of the booths should be reupholstered with new vinyl (I think) and cushioning because they are either sunken in or torn...which just means they get plenty of use. Takes forever... our party went out together and the restaurant was empty, yet the food took literally an hour plus to get here.

There are cheaper places with better, more authentic Mexican food. Meat on the tacos ordered for my son didn't smell right so he didn't eat it. Food was again okay. I probably won't be coming back because I know of better spots but I'm only rating to food because we had takeout. Food wise, it's okay.
