Well I was going to place an order on Uber Eats for a chicken steak and shrimp fajita with the queso pico add chorizo. The total came out to $33.98. I decided to order over the phone considering I didn't really want shrimp, but that was the only combination they had. Over the phone I ordered just a chicken and steak fajita and queso pico chorizo. Imagine my surprise that the total jumped up to $48! I asked them to honor the price on Uber Eats since this is what was posted. They first told me the prices were wrong on Uber Eats and the system prices were correct the $48. After explaining the differences in price versus what I ordered and the Uber Eats price they told me they would honor the Uber Eats price. When I came up to the restaurant to pick up my food they gave me the total $38.49. When I asked about them honoring the price like they said initially. I was told that the manager or owner said to only take a few dollars off and charge me full price for the queso. I didn't have it in me to go back and forth with these people any longer, so I canceled the entire order and went to another Mexican restaurant. It's unfortunate they didn't have great customer service and they didn't handled this situation properly. This cost me time and money. I also have a screenshot of the price that I was quoted with the shrimp. If you look now the Uber Eats store is closed so they can update pricing. Terrible experience. read more

Service needs improvement they forgot part of my order and then claimed they couldn't do a refund. And they said only a manager could help me and after 3 days now manager won't call me and I went to the restaurant and no one there can help! This restaurant is not prepared to serve customers fully. Found my new go to in Plainfield! The tacos were great. The Al Pastor was very very good, House made chips brought fresh to the table. Service was good, the decor on the inside is very nice. We stopped here while passing through from Chicago area. There was 1 person inside on a Saturday afternoon, so we were skeptical. It was delicious!!!!! Chips and salsa, shrimp tacos and a chicken quesadilla. They had a steady flow of pick up orders. Don't let a strip mall restaurant detour you, they are the best finds! Authentic Mexican food. I am afraid to write this review for fear this "secret" gem will gain popularity. Yet - I have to write something about this place. The food here is absolutely delicious. My favorites are the breakfast burrito with chorizo and the Al pastor tacos. Everything I've had is tasty, but those are my go-tos. Their red sauce is awesome too. There is table service, but I wish they would just have folks order at the counter and deliver the food to the table. It might be more efficient for the small wait staff who get pulled in a lot of different directions. read more

I've been to this restaurant a few times already, especially for their daily specials. The servers are very friendly and the complimentary chips and salsa when dining in are fresh and delicious. Their tacos are worth the price on taco tuesdays. They don't have a real website so to order for pickup they use doordash website which is pretty basic. There was no option for toppings so I figured the tacos come standard like the picture. Nope. When I arrived to pickup the cashier/server didn't acknowledge me even though I was standing directly in front of her. Eventually she gave me my food. There were no toppings so I ask and she advises I didn't request any. I let her know there wasn't that option to which she tries to tell me how online there is an option for toppings. We Ordered takeout. Ordered two regular steak burritos and a Junior. As well as Two steak tacos. We walked out with just the burritos. Caught it in time before going all the way home. We finally Get home with our order. Only received one regular steak burrito!! The other regular burrito was a chorizo burrito!!!! The Junior burrito was nothing but ground beef, no lettuce, tomato,etc NOT Steak that we paid for!! We are Not Happy! Only positive feedback is the one steak burrito was tasty! We live in the midst of some fantastic Mexican restaurants and we can officially add this one to the list. One non-food reason I love this restaurant: they're open later! So many places are closing early and it's refreshing to be able to place an order for a later dinner after the kids are in bed. I splurged for the Tampiquena Mar y Tierra. When I first opened it I thought "well that isn't much food for $22". I was so, so wrong. The food is all packaged up so tightly, you don't realize how much is included. The steak portion was very large and cooked perfectly, at least 8-10 shrimp that were very well seasoned and delicious, fantasticly charred onions and a full jalapeno, and their rice and refried beans are both fantastic. Overall the highlight was the cheese enchilada. I loved all the meat - but the sauce on the enchilada was incredible, very deep flavor. My husband ordered a steak burrito and the al pastor taco because he wanted to try both. The al pastor taco won out of the two - great seasoned meat and huge portion. The steak burrito was really good, but not the best - he prefers larger pieces of steak. As far as sides - the guac was very, very good but overpriced (small portion for $6), and the chip portion was also small (and didn't taste as fresh). The red salsa was more of a creamy hot sauce - good, but not the salsa we are used to. Can't wait to go back and explore the menu more. read more

The food is pretty decent, but the service and attitude of the two woman up front is something else. They are pretty rude and hostile. First time we went they told my husband chips & salsa was $26. He thought they were joking around but they weren't. She just glared at him. The second time we ate there and we overheard a man saying there was no way his pick up order was $100. He was also getting charged $26 for an order of salsa. He also told them to remove it. Who wants to eat mexican without chips and salsa? I ordered chicken fajitas and it took 20 minutes after our food came & walking up to the counter to get tortillas. They gave me one and a half tortillas. One was mangled. We ordered a margarita but it never came out. When I asked the lady to take it off the bill she said it was coming right up , we were looking for our check at that point. I told her just to cancel it. Then the other lady brought it from the back while we were leaving with a Dare me stare and I told her we already canceled it - which I know she knew based on their side whispering in Spanish - which since we are white but can speak Spanish understood every word. They didn't take it off our check. There was alot of side eye from the two women and one even came up and asked if there was something wrong here - not in a polite way. At that point, we were uncomfortable and just wanted to leave. After bringing the check from removing the margarita, I noticed she charged me for tortillas separately from the $24 chicken fajita price. l just wanted to go. We had to wait to close our check out because a group of three men were getting agitated based on the lack of service. I get servers get in the weeds sometimes. I served for about 10-12 years thru college and in my twenties. But I dont think the right answer is becoming unfriendly with customers. We wont ever be back. I have to believe one of those two woman must be part owner. I can't believe someone would feel comfortable enough to be that openly hostile otherwise. read more

During a bland and stressful world of self quarantine, we were excited to try El Barrio's second location today, 08/14/2020, around 2pm. That ended really quickly. The cooks did not wear masks and the cashier had her mask below her nose during the IL mask mandate, no plastic shield PPE, or gloves. The only covid prevention they had was a sign indicating you MUST wear a mask to enter at the front door, but apparently employees are exempt from this rule. They do not offer curbside pickup, so at least do your part to protect your customers and coworkers by wearing masks, they couldn't be bothered. I was ignored by the cashier while she stood and stared into the kitchen waiting for another customer's order while mine got cold next to the register (no food warmer); I had prepaid so I didn't have to be in small, enclosed space with a lot of other people during the pandemic. My efforts were carelessly thwarted. Our food was cold, greasy, and wrong; we ordered two burritos two diff ways, but there was no identifier on either wrapper. We were long time regulars at the original El Barrio in Romeoville, we recently moved to this area, but we're very disappointed in this location's lack of BASIC covid response, poor quality of the food, lack of any attention to detail or customer service. I would avoid this place if you value your health/wellbeing/tastebuds. Even corporate restaurant chains have done more to slow the spread. There are too many other delicious places that are taking your health seriously in the area, and the quality of of your food. read more

I'm torn leaving this review, but I believe it's in the interest of capitalism that I share it. I refuse to reward, bad attitudes or bad service even if the food is good. This is the case with this location. Food is excellent, although a bit pricey, but the unforgivable element in the equation is the indifference of the personnel answering the phones. There is not one microscopic bit of warmth that transmits from the workers dealing with the clients. Because the food is good, when you call, almost 100% of the time they will tell you you have to wait and put you on hold instantaneously. I have sat on hold for five minutes or longer, with no one ever coming back to acknowledge me. if I call back a second time, I get an unapologetic tone, informing me that they're just busy right now (it's very much a, "take it or leave it vibe."). Even when I called during slow times, the girls answering the phones could care less. So with a heavy heart, because I do like the food, I refuse to vote with my dollars at this location any longer. The treatment is just consistently bad, and for that reason, I can't reward them with further patronage. read more

I went with my family for Taco Tuesday and ordered steak, beef and a few pork tacos. Now I will admit they are smaller than their regular tacos, but they are still packed with all the accoutrements you'd expect. I could eat a half dozen easily, and that's because they're delicious! I look forward to trying them again. Now, on a completely separate note. Has anyone seen the new Impractical Jokers Movie? Man, that was a letdown. I placed an order for my family and we were overly happy with the food. The burritos were huge and the steak was perfect. My son only ate half and had the other half for dinner later that week!
