What a great experience! We weren't expecting the direction provided by our server Norma. We got there soon after opening and she let us know the favorites and what was on special. Thankfully for National Tequila Day their ladies margarita deal was available. Buy one margarita at full price, your second margarita is 1/2 price. We have gone for brunch and dinner and the food is absolutely delicious. My go to drink is the Sangrona which is muddled strawberries with tequila, orange juice and lime. For dinner, I typically order Al Alambre. It's steak and chorizo with peppers onions and cheese. Served with tortillas and a yummy green salsa. Go for brunch and order the Altiro Breakfast. It is a tortilla topped with potatoes, chorizo, perfectly scrambled eggs, avocado, sour cream and (crazy as it sounds) Ketchup. It is the most delicious combination. It is also served with orange juice and a cup of coffee. Now, I am not a coffee drinker but, this coffee has a nice cinnamon flavor and I absolutely enjoy it. Service is always excellent. Marco waits on us often and he is friendly and efficient. The restaurant is beautifully decorated throughout and there is no shortage of seating. They have a large bar area with multiple tv's to enjoy a drink and a quick bite. I know there have been complaints about the prices. The thing is, you get what you pay for. If you want Taco Bell prices, go to Taco Bell. My husband's breakfast this morning included 4 eggs and the cost was only $10! Considering the cost of groceries these days, that's a darn good price. The highest price meal on the menu is $25. Compared to other restaurants in that area, they aren't the highest overall priced restaurant. Went here for New Year's Eve. Service was great. From the minute we walked into the restaurant until we left, everyone was really friendly and tentative. The ambiance was nice. Very clean and although it's a small location the tables where far enough from one another. The food I will say wasn't that great. I feel like it was definitely overpriced ñ. This restaurant is not right for Plainfield, maybe downtown Naperville would suit it better. I miss Front Street when it was in its hay day. Don't come here, if you're hungry, TINY portions, expensive food and drinks with poor execution. Food is tapas style, but you can't share with more than 1 person. We had Al Camaleon which was good flavor but only had 4 bite sized tacos, Al Limón chicken, was so bad, we had to send it back to the kitchen, it was hard and rubber like, no flavor and the potatoes didn't have any season, not even salt. The Ala Paella was the best dish, but still lacked the execution. The tuna was over cooked, hard and dry. The Ala Barbacoa was decent, but I've had better at other restaurants for less. The last two dishes would be better as a meal for one person, who isnt very hungry. They are trying to act like a Michelin star restaurant, with the small portions, but they just lack the execution. Overall we don't plan to return to this restaurant. The restaurant is nice in the inside, and is a cute hangout. However, it is quite hidden compared to the rest of downtown. The cocktails were the biggest miss for us, they fell a bit flat and the purée used was very chunky. We like the quac trio, and the steak tacos were great. The pork belly tacos were nothing special. Dessert was just ok. Service was quite slow, and that was what deterred us the most. There were only two servers and the restaurant was fairly filled. read more

I think I understand the business strategy of the owner. Open up subpar latin "fusion" cuisine in a prominently white neighborhood. This way you have a large margin of error when serving subpar Latin cuisine. We ordered the tilapia, skirt steak, guacamole, and ceviche. As our dishes arrived, the question, why is this place called a tapas restaurant came to mind. The guacamole consisted about 4 1/2 tablespoons of non-ripe avocados. This dish cost $14.50 as we were chewing hard bits of avocado my wife and I were thinking what did we get ourselves into? The next course that arrived was the beer battered tilapia. This definitely was not a tapas. There were four chunks of heavily battered fish, where the batter to fish ratio was three to one. Underneath the four heavily battered pieces of fish was a glop of heavily sauced, mayo, covered cabbage. I think it's was supposed to be a coleslaw. This was a disaster. The next dish that arrived was the ceviche. There were four circular tortilla chips with spoonfuls of ceviche on top. This ceviche was not fresh and consisted of overly cured pieces of fish. This dish was also a plating fail. There was nothing bite-size about this dish. Why was it served on top of individual tortillas? It would've made a lot more sense to let customers scoop the ceviche from a bowl or plate. The last dish was the skirt steak. This consisted of overly salted overly cooked pieces of meat, smothered with cheese and topped with bits of grilled vegetables. Nothing special here nothing good. I can't help but feel disappointed with this meal. There was nothing special nor resembled tapas here. You could've had a better Latin dining experience at any Mexican diner in Plainfield. The only "fusion" restaurant achieved was terrible food with a subpar experience. read more

Regrettably, despite its prime location in Downtown Plainfield, the restaurant fails to live up to its hype. While the patio has a great ambiance, the food and drink were extremely sub par. We started with the elote and a haphazardly plated guacamole trio, which were okay but given the price I would have much rather gone to any of the other great downtown Plainfield restaurants. The simple shrimp tacos, while not terrible, lacked anything to make me want to order them again. However, the complete downfall of our meal at Altiro was reached upon encountering the horrendous mussels, whose overpowering fishiness could not even be masked by the rich red sauce and rendered even the accompanying rustic garlic bread inedible. Upon expressing our dissatisfaction to the server regarding the quality of the mussels, we were met with a lack of acknowledgment or apology. My complaint was not merely based on personal taste but rather a concern these spoiled mussels would be served to another customer. We were offered a dessert to "make us happy" or maybe remove the lingering taste of seawater from our mouths but declined as we lost our appetite from the fishy mussels. What a great addition to downtown Plainfield! Came here with my husband for dinner and immediately fell in love with the decor and atmosphere inside. It's the perfect mix of trendy & upscale with the pretty crystal candelabra at the bar and cozy mood lighting. ALL of their margaritas sounded amazing so I tried 3 of them. I had the Al margarita (which is essentially a classic marg) the Ala sangrona with fresh strawberries & the Al Jarrito with fresh grapefruit. Honestly they were all delicious but the Ala sangrona was one of the best margs I have EVER had. We split the guacamole trio & the Al atun which is seared yellowfin ahi tuna served on crisps with yummy sauces. Both tasted so fresh & flavorful. Love their tortilla chips. We each ordered tacos & shared them. My husband got the skirt steak & I got the garlic shrimp. You get 4 tacos to an order but they are very small. My only complaint is that this place is pretty expensive for what you get. $18.50 for 4 small tacos and no sides and $14 for a margarita are basically downtown Chicago prices. We loved the drinks, enjoyed the food and our server was great so we will be back but just be prepared for a higher than normal bill for the area! read more

I am so happy to discover Altiro Latin Fusion in the space that previously was occupied by Front Street Cantina in downtown Plainfield. Altiro brings a new culinary experience to Plainfield that is long overdue! On my first visit I tried the ceviche appetizer, which had an unexpected, unique and beautiful presentation. Infused with bright citrus notes and served on tortilla rounds topped with a savory sauce and watercress.. delicious! The margaritas are made with fresh squeezed juice (as they should be) and not overly sweet. On weekdays before 5, they are $10 and I highly recommend popping in for happy hour. I also tried the fish tacos which are served with a mango compote adding a sweetness to the spice. I can't wait to go back and try more. The highlight of my meal was the amazing elote which has a richness and complexity of flavors I have not experienced in any other elote that I've tried. On the menu it's Al Elotito and the chef touts it as truly authentic Mexican street food. It is a must-try dish. We came to Altiro for brunch. This was our second visit. The first was not long after they opened. The service wasn't great but we thought maybe it was because they were still new. So we decided to give it another try. We arrived shortly after opening and there was only one other table occupied. The first table they wanted us to sit at, the chair was dirty with food so I asked if we could sit at the next table and mentioned the chair was dirty. The waitress seemed a little annoyed but I thought maybe it was just me. Also, neither of us saw her clean the chair. I ordered a meal that came with an orange juice and a coffee but she never brought them. When she gave us the bill, I asked if she could take anything off since I never got my OJ or coffee and she abruptly and rudely said "No, they're small anyway." My boyfriend happened to be looking down at his phone and jerked his head up so quick because he couldn't believe she answered the way she did. No apologies or anything about not bringing them out. I was shocked as well but just said ok, that's fine. Her service was reflected in the tip that was left and that was the last time we will be eating at Altiro. read more

At this point though we are comimitted. At 1030 the doors open and we go in. Nice ambiance. The waiter was very helpful explaining the menu. We went with brunch. I'm not a foodie. I had something with beef and my wife had something with chicken. We both had a strawberry mimosa. The Food was So tasty. It made me want to go again and try the dinner menu. We originally went to the one in Aurora and were really disappointed with the service and the location, they must have something wrong with sewer because it was smelling really bad. However, we decided to try this in Plainfield and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The service was great, Patricia was wonderful, and we even arrived before they opened and didn't know yet She still took us and gave us a table right away. I had the Aurora Wheaton Geneva, breakfast platter, which was delicious. We ordered guacamole and chips was excellent. My husband had the huevos ranchero and he enjoyed. Also ordered a crêpe of arroz con leche. It was very good. We both enjoyed that as well. Noted is they make their own chips so that adds an elevates the dish.
