If you want authentic Birriera home cooking, with a family feel, this is your place. These guys take great pride in their cooking, creating tender meat and bullion that will heal the worst hangover or boost a flailing immune system. We had their crunchy tacos and tasted the bullion with chunks of tender birriera in the broth. It felt like home. We even learned they have ramen they now add to a bowl of broth and meat- bring it on, for a bowl of serious comfort food for the weary traveler or hungry expat!

We came in at 12pm and were seated right away. Our server spoke perfect English. My group of 7 had just ate at a near by restaurant and so we told this to our server to let them know we weren't that hungry but wanted to try goat birrira. We initially told the server we will order just 1 large bowl to share. So I heard him say he will bring out 3 bowls so we could share. Here I'm thinking he's so kind to offer to split the large bowl into 3 smaller bowls but no, instead he charged us for 3 large bowls. Very sneaky. We couldn't finish it and had it to go. The staffs were nice but I didn't like their intentions. The goat wasn't gamey and it tastes just like beef.

Pretty solid birria in PV! I'm staying across the street at the resort and had to walk over for the goods. Portions are large and everything was flavorful.

Best authentic birria I've ever had! And that says a lot, I like birria. The staff is friendly, they take pride in their restaurant. We came here by chance, reasonably priced. Try the quesabirria with everything on it. The mixed plate, and the tacos!

Looking for an authentic experience and found it. The tacos dorado were a nice size and the quesabirria is delish. Consume is full of flavor. The agua fresca changes frequently- today was cucumber lemon and was refreshing. Service was good, food came out quickly and overall pretty clean. We will be back!

Birria originated from the state of Jalisco and it was no wonder that we'd be able to find a restaurant that specialized in just birria. El Tio Tono is almost like an open-air restaurant, it's not an enclosed space but there's a roof and everything for shade and cover. Our initial server realized that he couldn't communicate with us efficiently so he immediately grabbed someone who could translate for us. He explained the menu and gave a lot of recommendations. The menu is split between either beef or goat meat but our server recommended goat. Orden grande: To straight up try birria, the orden grande or chica is the way to go. Grande for large, chica for small. You get a bowl of consome and chunks of tender meat and pieces of liver. The order also comes with a side of tortillas to dip and onions, cilantro, and shredded cabbage to add. On top of that, the chef later came by and dropped this burnt, crispy layer of meat on top of my soup. This adds so much flavor and it was my favorite part of it. But overall, this ended up being too much food for me, and I think I would've preferred a taco or quesabirria instead. I'd recommend ordering your own food and getting a grande bowl to share with the table. If you do get the quesabirria, that's all you'll need because it's massive. And the mix of meat and cheese is such a savory masterpiece. I only got a bite and wished I ordered that instead.

10/10 amazing authentic mexican birria. Not these tourist fake mexican spots. This spot is legit. El mejor birria de puerto vallarta . Service was amazing as well

Not alot of selection but im going to give this a 5 star based on mostly the price alone and the great value here in A lart of PV called Versalles( becoming well known for a new food scene here in Puerto Vallarta. To pay only 5$ for a taco and a Quesaberria and consome for only 5.50$ is amazing. They specialize in this dish of goat meat.

Find your way to this place! Excellent food and service for a great price. I wish we hadn't waited until our last day to venture out and try this place.

Having come here since I was 10 years old, this iconic taquería isn't just a local favorite--it's a timeless institution that continues to define what truly exceptional tacos should be. Since 1987, Pepe's has built a reputation that extends far beyond Puerto Vallarta, and one visit is all it takes to understand why. The star of the show--their legendary tacos al pastor--is nothing short of extraordinary. The pork is expertly marinated and cooked to perfection, resulting in meat that is incredibly juicy, tender, and bursting with deep, savory flavor. Each slice is carved with precision and layered onto warm tortillas, creating a perfect foundation for what comes next. What truly elevates these tacos is the balance of toppings. The sweetness of the pineapple and the sharpness of the fresh onions cut through the richness of the meat beautifully, enhancing every bite with contrast and complexity. It's a masterclass in simplicity done right--every ingredient playing its role to perfection. Beyond the food, the experience itself is just as memorable. The service is impressively fast and efficient, especially considering how popular this spot is, and there's an undeniable energy in the air that makes it feel alive at all hours. It's the kind of place you can count on for a late-night bite, where the atmosphere is casual, vibrant, and always welcoming. Pepe's Tacos isn't about reinvention or trend--it's about consistency, tradition, and delivering excellence time and time again. Decades later, it still holds its place as one of the best taco spots in Puerto Vallarta, and for good reason. Some things never change--and when they're this good, they absolutely shouldn't.

While the wait can be a bit unpredictable, it's usually not too long, especially during the summer. However, if you visit in the winter, it can take a while. The food here is reasonably priced and the portions are generous. The only thing that confuses me is the fruit water of the day. The cups are incredibly small, and for 30 pesos, I expected more. I've noticed that some tables have their water refilled, while others have been changed. I'm not sure if this is a policy or just a coincidence. The service is okay, but nothing extraordinary. They have a limited number of tables and don't have air conditioning, so it can get quite hot inside and outside. However, you're here to eat and go, so don't expect a sit-down experience. One important thing to note is that they only accept cash. So, make sure to bring some pesos with you.

The ribeye had so much fat that we had to pick through it just to eat it. The al pastor was very average - I've had much better at plenty of other taco spots. The biggest disappointment was the chorizo. It wasn't traditional chorizo at all; it looked and tasted more like chopped-up hot dogs. We barely touched it because it wasn't what we ordered expecting, and it just wasn't good. The presentation also wasn't appealing. The meat was simply piled on top of two tortillas, making everything messy and difficult to eat. They were also pretty stingy with the grilled jalapeños. The salsas didn't do the food any favors either. None of them really stood out, and the green guacamole salsa actually tasted like it had gone bad, so we stopped eating it. Service was attentive, but almost too attentive. Staff kept coming by every few minutes to ask if we were finished or if we needed anything. While I appreciate good service, it made us feel like we were being rushed through our meal instead of being able to enjoy it at our own pace. Overall, I don't understand the high ratings based on our experience. With so many amazing taco spots in Puerto Vallarta, this one didn't come close to meeting the hype. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back.
