I've been ordering from this place for years, but unfortunately the quality has gone downhill. My husband ordered a chorizo burrito with no beans, and what we received was mostly cheap, unmelted cheese with barely any meat. It felt like corners were being cut instead of serving the quality food they used to be known for. What made the experience even worse was trying to call and address the issue. The employee on the phone was laughing and came across as extremely condescending instead of taking the complaint seriously. I've been going here for about 9 years. I have never had bad service or a bad meal. Family friendly service. Some of my favorites are the breakfast dishes, menudo, steak tacos and the guacamole. If you place an order to go make sure you open and unwrap it there because it's never correct. I ordered tortas with cheese and avocado, which of course is an extra charge. Don't get me wrong. I love Rick Bayless, but the carne asada tacos at this totally nondescript taqueria in Cragin are just as good as anything he's turning out at any of his restaurants. It's not a knock on Rick. These tacos are just that good. The flank steaks are marinated in typical carne asada fashion, seasoned, and grilled over open flame. The meat is always cooked to a perfect medium-rare with a bit of char on the outside. They do a pretty brisk business during lunch, so there are some days when the smell of grilled steak fills the neighborhood for hours on end. The tacos are served in the traditional style - double corn tortillas, raw onion, cilantro, lime and salsa verde. Words can't even do it justice. I can completely relate to the earlier reviewer who said he nearly hyperventilated the first time he had them. The other thing that's great about this place is the people that eat here. There's a CTA bus depot next door, the El Milagro tortilla factory across the street, a handful of small warehouses nearby, and that's about it for a couple block radius. Most of the clientele are usually covered in paint, dirt or grease and look tired and happy. I just can't say enough about this place. read more

A bit out of the way but I like what this place has to offer. The quality of the food is excellent, the meat is cooked perfectly and every bite is full of flavor. Probably the best tacos to get here is the Al Pastor with some of the red hot sauce and you have satisfying meal. To wash it all down grab a joya or some Horchata or Jamaica. This taco joint is exactly what it looks like. Small hidden gem. I tried 1 of each, they're a good size but the flavor is amazing. This guys do not go cheap on the meat. I like that it looks fast and they treat u like a fast joint. No waitress, just a counter and u sit where ever. We sat outside. Good experience. I won't drive there, too far from me. Our 1st choice for Mexican take out. We recently moved into the area and found this place. Their tacos al pastor are AMAZING! we eat here at least once a week. No other taco al Pastor can compare to this. Orchata is good too we ate inside once and it wasn't the most comfortable but definitely take out anytime. read more

my Aunt said she liked the chicken tacos, last time I had the steak (dry, bland, tough) so I tried the chicken and a quesadilla.. chicken taco was tender , but sooo BLAND!! I love this place, I am a truly a loyal customer i refuse to eat at any other taco places. They are well known for their alpastor. The tortillas are dbl dipped in olive oil and the meat is done to perfection with chard on the sides. The price has gone up a bit but still affordable you save money if you order the taco dinner (dont worry the rice and beans are good too). Over all i have really no words to describe you how good this place is, its been open for more than 15 years and still going strong. Every other weekend i see the same people ordering from here. They hold up their name and sometimes they are over looked bc its a small joint but real people know the best food come from small family owned restaurant like these guys. What a great place as an alternative to your corporate, frozen packaged food joints in the Craigen area. This is a small Mexican Taqueria place that you might have driven past a couple of times unoticed. I visited this place as a suggestion from my colleague at work. The food is good, great red home made salsa and price. My 1st visit was good enough to give it another go around, there are some areas that could use small improvements such as reduce fat on the steak tacos and perhaps add a little sweetness to the Pastor tacos. That's my personal taste, but if you don't mind that.. This is a great place for you! I will be visiting their 2nd location and share my thoughts. This is a small hidden place in a non congested area. Their tacos of lengua, carne asada, and al pastor are 2nd to none. If your with a group of people I warn you that their dining area is small so I suggest taking them to go.
