We used to go here all the time and I don't know it has happened. I just ordered a breakfast burrito. I was supposed to be chorizo not chorizo eggshells in my burrito. It's disgusting. I don't know what happened to their customer service, but I will not be back at this place.

You needed a quick dinner fix and wanted Mexican. We ordered pastrami torta, a hard shell beef taco and pico de gallo with chips. Everything was prepared in a timely manner. Everything was delicious and service was awesome. Very clean, warm, friendly place!

Let me start by saying, I'm not a fan of ordering at the counter and then picking it up, also I don't like paper plates and plastic forks and knives. Ok that said, these were without a doubt the best shredded beef burritos I have ever eaten. Not one pice of fat or gristle. These things weren't big, they were huge and full of meat. They came with very flavorful rice, beans, lettuce and sour cream. Hot sauce was provided out of squeeze bottles. All in all I'd say for the price this is THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD in Portland! If I didn't have to serve myself 5 stars! This place does a huge take out business. You want real Mexican food, then this is the place for you.

Pretty decent burrito joint, similar to Tecos or Muchas Gracias. Hearty burritos at slightly larger than normal prices: 3 machaca burritos and an OMG burrito ran us about $35 bucks. It took us two full days to get through them all, even splitting it with all the kids! Took the order to go, which appears to be the norm, as the dining room was closed. Service was friendly and the order was served very quickly; less than five minutes, I'd say. Overall, a great, quick option to get your burrito fix. Lots of options here, so I'm looking forward to branching out from my usual favorites and trying something new.

I definitely prefer "authentic" over more popular Americanized hot spots like Tacovore, Por Que No, etc. Unfortunately, this isn't one of the better non-Gringo places. The al pastor had the taste and texture of ground beef. I've probably sampled more versions of a breakfast burrito than any other food. Here they add too much bacon (yes, that's a thing), it overpowered the other ingredients. And the bacon shape makes a difference. I prefer cut pieces, not whole strips, but also not the crumbly kind like they serve here. Lastly, the cheese wasn't a Mexican blend, it tasted very low end. It's a big space with ample parking, but few customers. Old school for sure, but maybe one and done for me.

reminds me a lot of my favorite spot in San Diego, they have a cute little street fighter arcade game which I would say you could play while you wait but the food comes out quick! their food is creative, chile relleno in my burrito? torta bun for a burger? yes please

kind of okay i guess. taco salad was not it but i should have expected that. like it wasn't BAD but it was nothing to write home about. weird vibe like if AI created a restaurant.

Both the fish and the prawns were cooked in a red sauce that was delicious! I meant to ask for blue corn tortillas but was so excited to find shrimp & fish tacos that weren't deep-fried that I forgot to ask for them. The regular corn tortillas were excellent, though, so it was not a bad mistake to make. I also had jamaica to drink and let me tell you... it was not made from a mix! It was dark, thirst-quenching, and perfectly made. Most jamaica is super sweet - this was not! I love the flavor of real hibiscus and this did not disappoint. My friends had chile relleno bowls and birria tacos, all of which was excellent. Their watermelon margaritas were tasty and refreshing! Our orders were taken by a helpful person at the cash register and the food was served quickly by a friendly server. The inside and outside areas were clean and tidy, with plenty of seating available at the outside tables. The outdoor seating area is under cover making it a good choice for both summer & winter dining. Definitely going on my "have to go back and try something else" list!

Such a small detail that makes a big difference. The Citrus Salad was super fresh, crisp, and delicious, which balanced everything out perfectly. I also tried the NA classic margarita and it was so refreshing. I loved the subtle touch of orange juice. Overall, such a lovely spot with amazing food, great vibes, and thoughtful details. I will definitely be back!

I tried their course menu, and every dish was presented with such care and beauty. What I especially appreciated was how each dish was bursting with flavor without being overly salty or sweet -- something that's surprisingly hard to find at restaurants. For the amount of food and the overall experience, I thought it was a great way to experience the restaurant. Ángel took care of us and made the meal even more memorable by telling us the story and inspiration behind each dish as it came out. It made the tasting feel like much more than just trying a bunch of different dishes. I'm definitely a carnivore and usually feel like a meal needs some kind of meat, but surprisingly, my favorite dish was the mole with eggplant and rice. The mole was delicious, and I genuinely didn't miss having meat on the plate. I would happily order that dish again exactly as it was. The tomates en salsa arabe were another standout. I really enjoyed how fresh the dish tasted, especially with the seasonal tomatoes they were using. I also had the carnitas tacos, which had great flavor and texture. For dessert, we had what was essentially a fried concha, and I loved that it wasn't overly sweet. It had just the right amount of sweetness for me and was a great way to finish the meal. Overall, I highly recommend doing the full tasting menu at República. For around $40 per person, you get to experience the entire menu, and if you're lucky enough to have Ángel there to walk you through the stories and concepts behind the dishes, it makes the experience that much better.
