I love this place. I've been coming here for YEARS. I've reviewed this place before but i think it deserves another good review because during these difficult times many places aren't as good or consistent, but El Burrito Loco is still consistently delicious after all these years!! The place is clean and friendly, and the people who own it and work here are hard workers and they CARE about the place and the fantastic food they create. Great, fast, friendly. Big menu, how are they doing this with a drive thru? This is just what it should be, reliable food, fresh and made to order. Lots of veggie options, and tons of things I haven't tired. We usually go basic, super loco burrito and chicken enchiladas plate. Nice touches with the extra lettuce, chips and sour cream (all included), and their salsa is good and free! For a weeknight dinner or a quick lunch that doesn't break the bank, wonderful. The chicken soft tacos are delicious. I prefer a taco with lettuce, cheese and tomato-not just meat. This place is the best. You can see from the photo that they don't skimp on the toppings. Quick, very reasonable prices, something for everyone on the menu with fresh quality ingredients. I've been eating at El Burrito Loco since I was a kid - for about 30 years, back when they had a location in North Portland. I don't make it out to 82nd from NOPO often, but whenever I'm close, I stop by EBL & sometimes make a trip just for a craving. Soft tostada burrito (v), crunchy tostadas (v), machaca burrito, pastor & loco tacos have consistently been favorites since the 90s. Ok that said, these were without a doubt the best shredded beef burritos I have ever eaten. Not one pice of fat or gristle. These things weren't big, they were huge and full of meat. Pretty decent burrito joint, similar to Tecos or Muchas Gracias. Hearty burritos at slightly larger than normal prices: 3 machaca burritos and an OMG burrito ran us about $35 bucks. It took us two full days to get through them all, even splitting it with all the kids! Took the order to go, which appears to be the norm, as the dining room was closed. Service was friendly and the order was served very quickly; less than five minutes, I'd say. Overall, a great, quick option to get your burrito fix. I used to grab a burrito via the drive-thru on occasion, until one night when I saw some sketchy-looking dude park, look into several car windows, and walk into the restaurant WITH A ZIPLOCK BAG OF COOKED RICE and hand it over! As a Chef of long prior experience and a Food Handler Certification for DECADES, that's a "Hell no! WTF?!?" TOTALLY a food safety violation! I haven't eaten their food since (3-4 years now). I definitely prefer "authentic" over more popular Americanized hot spots like Tacovore, Por Que No, etc. Unfortunately, this isn't one of the better non-Gringo places. The al pastor had the taste and texture of ground beef. I've probably sampled more versions of a breakfast burrito than any other food. Here they add too much bacon (yes, that's a thing), it overpowered the other ingredients. And the bacon shape makes a difference. I prefer cut pieces, not whole strips, but also not the crumbly kind like they serve here. Lastly, the cheese wasn't a Mexican blend, it tasted very low end. BEST chili cheese fries in town. When you're in the for some upgraded French Fries, you MUST order some of those and make sure to order them with some sour cream. You would not regret it at all. Also, a must to try here is the Chile Relleno burrito and Chicken & Steak tacos (or burrito) they are the BOMB! We were in the neighborhood (starving) so we stopped and went inside to the counter. I haven't been in a long time but I remember how wonderful it used to be. I asked the guy at the counter a specific question about a menu item. He gave me a look of complete distain and mumbled his answer as if he didn't care if I heard him or not. (My question was not "stupid" but he acted like it was). Unfriendly and unwelcoming. I elected not to ask him a second time. We ordered two burritos and colas and the bill was $34.00. The food was just ok. I remember that the "Dining Room" used to be pleasant enough. Now it is dingy, like you are eating at a Greyhound bus station. It's somewhat far away for me -- especially now that i don't go out much anymore cuz of Covid -- but I still want to come here as often as I can! The food is absolutely delicious and the people are very friendly. When I ate here tonight in their parking lot -- I lost track of the time and their "lobby" doors were locked (even though the drive through was still open). I had a long drive home ahead of me and I really had to go to the bathroom. The kind gentleman inside unlocked the doors for me so I could use the facilities. That act of kindness meant a lot to me. I've been going here for nearly 20 years. I've always loved it so much and it breaks my heart to say that I don't love it anymore. The food has slipped. It's way over priced. It's such a bummer and I hope somehow they figure out a way to get back to what they used to be. We had a caterer cancel our order the day of the event yesterday due to a power outage at their restaurant and I had to scramble to find 120 tacos for my daughters quinceñera. I ate one taco , which is a hefty size taco and very tasty and ate half of the Grande meal which consists of a nice sized burritto , STUFFED with shredded beef and a suprise chile Relleno . Along side of the burrito is a nacho dish complete with Guac and sour cream . Both the burrito and nachos are topped off with a Picco de Gallo . We came with an order for two families, including two teenage boys and one very hungry adult male. So we pretty much ordered the entire menu. The best period. A lot of people don't know about the underground menu, if you don't get familiar, theee absolute best dishes and variety. I've been eating at this restaurant for 24 years, and they are the first official Authentic Mexican restraunt, and food establishment in Portland. Okay so I'm new to the area and I'm a huge Mexican food connoisseur. Someone recommended this location for some great Mexican food. First I want to say, the food is pretty good! Nice and seasoned, not too bad. However once you have terrible customer service in my opinion it taints the whole experience overall. I've read a couple of reviews just to see if I was the only one who had this problem (spoiler alert I'm not). Before I forget I've been to this place 3 times. Each and every time I've gone, the guy with the glasses at the drive thru always has a nasty and rude attitude. First time, I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt, maybe shitty day? Whatever, but the last two times? All the same. He has a disgusting attitude and closes the drive thru window in your face. It pisses me off because I'm a very understanding and patient person, hence why I've gone 3 times, but at this point I'm fed up and disgusted with the attitude. A shame really because this place has some pretty tasty food. El Burrito Loco, GET RID OF THAT GUY!!!!!!!! I'd give them a higher rating but it's just the customer service that I really really don't like. For a total decadent pleasure, I love the combination burrito. It's gooey as hell and crazy good. I have been to this location on two occasions and the second will be my last - without a doubt. The food is ok - not nearly as good as the superior Super Burrito in Milwauikie or the Super Torta in Oregon City, and the service at El Burrito Loco is horrible. My first experience was not much different than my second, which was the final straw so to speak. Both times it was a longer than normal wait time for the food, which was given to me cold. Receiving cold food tells me that the wait was not due to the food still being prepared. The second time which was about 20 minutes ago, I was behind someone else in the drive thru and sat in line waiting with cars behind me while the car in front me me carried on a conversation with someone at the window. I patiently waited thinking that perhaps his order was still being prepared. After 6 minutes they "pounded fists" and the car in front of me drove off while the worker walked away. I pulled up to the window to discover that the people working the drive thru were different people that the bald guy talking to the car in front of me. I waited another 4 minutes and was given my order. I got out of the parking lot and opened my food to discover it super greasy and cold. My lunch time was wasted away in my drive there and waiting, I flew back to work and ate two of my tacos after putting them in the microwave. The meat here is very bland and if you do not get hot sauce, you might as well be eating chewy cardboard.
