First stop of Ericka A's UYE: Lake Street Taco Tour and I think it was the perfect start. It set the mood for the rest of the tour. Four of us walked in, seven of us walked out. Of course you get some chips and salsa to start off with. The waitress was very nice and patient with us. I've been here before, mostly on drunken nights when you just need those extra carbs to hit the right spot. Well this time I wasn't eating carbs so I ordered my taco de carne asada and taco de chorizo with out the tortilla. Yes, the waitress was kinda shocked and made sure that she was hearing me right. When it came out, the meat was on two separate plates with some lettuce and cheese, just the way I imagined it. Savory as ever, I enjoyed every bit of my carne asada and chorizo "tacos". El Burrito Tapatio has always been the neighborhood late night burrito stop in Addison. If you are from Addison, more likely or not you are familiar with the restaurant. The question is it a staple because of the food or maybe it's just the hours? I've been to El Burrito through out the years, and it's been consist ever since I first went in high school. I typically order the giant burrito because I'm a creature of habit and to be fair it's always consistent. The burrito is quiet large however due to the trend of larger portions everywhere the once called giant burrito is now just a slightly above average burrito. Don't get me wrong it is still a hefty meal, so do expect to be able to eat more than one. As for the burrito's flavor, I enjoy it. It's pretty standard spicing, but what I enjoy about El Burrito is the fact that anytime you get the burrito, it is consistent. It's not chewier or harder from one day to another. Although the flavor may not necessarily provide that wow factor, the consistency of the flavor, whether it is 1pm or 1am, it's still has the same flavor, texture, and size. To me, that is a sign of quality since the people working at El Burrito obviously know what they are doing since there is no gigantic viable in the dish. My visit I did however venture off to a different path... Scary, I know... I had the lengua (tongue) taco and tripas (tripe) taco, and I was impressed. Lengua I've had everywhere and El Burrito knew their lengua. The lengua taco was tender and was very good. As for the tripas, this was a new experience for me. I like tripe but never had it in the taco form. To be honest, I really enjoy the tripas taco. It's texture was phenomenal. It was slightly chewy but also had parts that just melted. As for it's seasoning, it was salted very well, and had an almost roasted flavor that was very appealing. It retrospect after my venture away from the typical, I found that El Burrito has a lot of potential with it's menu. I just just have to explore it a little more. I originally thought that the reason El Burrito is a staple to Addison was because of its consistency, but maybe my failure to explore the menu can also hinder my analysis of this little restaurant. For now, I give this a 3, but I think I need to explore the menu a little more and maybe by the next visit, it'll be a 4. read more

This place has average Mexican food. The one thing they offer that is better than any other place I've tried is they red hot sauce. Other then that, I can get better food down the street. I used to be a regular here. The last time I went I swore I would never go back. I went in with a friend during the week at about 4pm...not a busy time at all. There were two waitresses on staff. We sat down and waited to be acknowledged for about 15 minutes before getting up and walking out. We ordered 3 steak tacos, a "veggie" burrito and rice. I wish I could give more than two stars but can't. The steak tacos came with flavorless meat compared to other Mexican taqueras I've been too. The veggie burrito should be relabeled "bean" burrito because other than some shedded iceberg and a few small slices of tomato, it's all beans. There are a bunch of Mexican food restaurants within half a mile of this place. El Burrito Tapatio is hands down the best. The meat has less fatty bits than the other restaurants. Prices are a bit much if you get anything outside of the basic staples. Tacos and Burritos are all priced well. After many disappointing evenings spent trying the other mexican food in the area, I now know that this will always be the place to go. read more

Even I used to think just making a greasy burrito at 2 A.M. would taste good but I have been to my fair share of places that I didn't like. It is even harder to find a good burrito place that is open late in the suburbs but this place is really good. Located on Lake St. in Addison, IL it is in a convenient location. The place has a decent amount of parking but the lot can fill up very quickly especially late at night when the place us slammed. When I came here I ordered a large steak burrito. They gave you chips & salsa to eat while you wait for your food. The chips & salsa was very good. They had a red & green sauce & they both tasted great. The steak burrito came out fairly quickly about ten minutes later. This was pretty quick considering that the place was busy. The burrito portion size was very big. The burrito itself was awesome. It didn't taste like a big salty grease mess. It had lots of flavor & was delicious. Overall the staff here was friendly & the place was clean. I have been to the chain in Streamwood but decided since we were in the area to come to this one. Big mistake. We typically order the Steak Tacos but what we got instead was charred bits of meat that tasted burnt throughout the taco. It was the most inedible thing I've ever had. Fifteen minutes later and I can still taste them in my mouth. The only reason I'd give them even 2 stars was the salsa and chips was exactly like the other restaurant and that's always delish. Maybe the other stuff is good there, but I won't be back to find out. On top of it all, hubs went to the bathroom and was disgusted with how dirty it was. This restaraunt has by far the best Mexican food this side of the Rio Grand. I have been a customer of this chain for over 20 years. If I am correct, the same owner has two restaraunts in Lisle, Ill, one in Downers Grove, Ill, one in Addison, Ill, and one in Wrigleyville (under the El-tracks). The Owner always took time to talk to me, I felt that was personalized service. The food is incredibly good from the burritos to the tacos to the tortas, to the fajitas. I especially like the juevos rancheros. I have eaten at all the restaraunts, with the exception of Wriglyville, (I stuck my head inside out of curiousity) and I can tell you the consistensy Is like McDonalds. I know if I order a big steak burrito in Lisle, I will get the same big steak burrito in Addison, or Downers Grove. I have been all over Mexico, in fact, I have never eaten a burrito in Mexico, but I have eaten my share of tacos, and this place is my choice for the best tacqueria in Chicagoland. This is the best late night mexican food restaurant in Addison for sure! This is usually my go to after going out to the bars and whatnot because tacos/burritos just end up being the perfect way to end the night other than "somethin somethin". The prices are very reasonable and the food quality is great. I usually get the tacos al pastor and the tacos de lengua, but the burritos are my second favorite here. If it walk into a taqueria and I'm the only person who speaks English fluently, I know it's probably a good place. I got a burrito suizo that was just fantastic. A giant burrito in a nice fluffy tortilla with perfectly grilled chicken inside, completely covered in what was some really flavorful Chihuahua cheese. It was definitely a delight. I also ended up with lemonade. I have no idea how, I didn't order it. Actually, I do know how. There is a serious language barrier there to be sure. I must have said something while ordering that sounded like lemonade. I can't imagine what, but I'm sure that was it. The place is lacking in ambiance to be sure, but if you ask me that's part of the ambiance. Little holes in the wall are the best places to get Mexican food and it just adds to the experience. Plus they had a TV on the wall showing old Mexican movies.
