My first birria taco experience! I love how they moved their location a little to where it's a little safer for customers to park and get in line. The food here is excellent. I love tacos and cheese and any type of BROTH! The gentleman who took my order was very helpful in explaining what everything was to me, mind you this was my first time hearing some of the names like huesi, vampiro, mulita. I ended up ordering more than I would be able to eat but NO PROBLEM! Nothing goes to waste! Even the bone from the bone marrow taco (huesi) went to my pup! I have to say though, it should be eaten right away so that the cheese is still stringy and the tortillas, crunchy!

El Cabo Pepe's was such a sad disappointment. I hate writing negative reviews but this was unacceptable. After looking at the pictures and some of the reviews I was so excited to try a new Birria place. Sadly, the service and food was just subpar. Starting off with the staff, they were just staring at us and rushing us to order. I personally just felt as if they wanted us to left to close up shop and go home. Now the biggest disappointment was the food. We got the 3 Amigo Platter. After looking at the photos and then actually seeing what we got, there is just no comparison. The food had zero flavoring and was just overloaded with cheese. All 3 different tacos tasted the exact same. It would either just tortilla and boiled meat flavor or just a full bite of tasteless cheese. The consume (the dip) was also flavorless and would just leave my mouth oily . Overall $18 for these 3 tacos is just outrageous. Poor service and serving unseasoned boiled beef has left my mental and stomach upset. I unfortunately would not recommend El Cabo Pepe's

Ok, I have to admit I stopped by for just for the Yelp perk, but ended up enjoying everything about my visit (except possibly the wait time, but more about that later). I ordered my free queso taco and proceeded to order a huesi taco and three amigos platter. We tried to order the birria ramen, but they were out so if you want to try it, get there early (I was there around 7:30pm on a Friday). Although there was a line of people waiting for their food, there wasn't a line to order and we were greeted promptly and he was very friendly to boot. I advised them of the Yelp perk and after checking for my name, gave me a cool Yelp glass which was a bonus, since I wasn't expecting it. I placed our order than the waiting game started. I'm conflicted because you obviously want the food to be hot and fresh, but waiting outside in the cold with a small crowd is not so fun. At the end of the day, I'll take hot and fresh over pre-made and fast. Once I received the order, I was pretty hungry but didn't want to eat in the car or out in the cold so I took a quick bite of my queso taco and started driving home. The first bite was a little bland to be honest, but had promise. Once we got home (about 20 min drive) we realized the best way to enjoy the food was to layer the flavors. Add some lemon, onion, cilantro and the kick ass red hot salsa then dip your food in the consommé and bam . Nothing bland, nothing over seasoned just great combination of flavors. The huesi taco or bone marrow seemed to be over seasoned after the first bite, but again, once I combined with the consommé and bites of the included queso taco, it was perfect. Other than combining the ingredients for best flavors, some other tips are to eat the crispy items as quickly as possible so they don't get to soggy. Also if you don't like a lot of cheese, be careful what you order. All the items in the 3 amigos has cheese. Great for my GF, not so great for this Asian.

Second time's the charm! First time coming here they were out of food; was super bummed driving out there. On my first visit I came on a Saturday around 6PM planning to grab dinner. I left feeling sad and hungry. I suggest coming here earlier like before 4 or 5PM. There is always a line! On my second visit I came on a Sunday afternoon around 1:30pm. Upon arriving, there was a line, people waiting for their order. Heads up for people coming here for the first time, it may be a food truck, but where they are parked conveniently there is a parking lot belonging to a kitchen supply warehouse, "Panda Kitchen". The directions on Google takes you to Papa John's plaza, skip it and turn right on Gale Ave. After turning right on Gale you will see a red food truck parked alongside the street and a driveway to a small lot. On weekends it seems like no problem to park there, not sure how things look during the weekdays. When you walk to the food truck there is a small menu and pictures of the different tacos all over the truck. You can also grab a soda if you're thirsty. Be prepared to wait! It's at least a 30 minutes of standing around. They really cook each order fresh! Ordered the Sample Platter and an order of the Huesi (Bone Marrow) Taco. Been eyeing that bone marrow tacos for weeks! Yelp you got me! Those pictures were so tempting. After getting home I immediately started to eat the tacos while they were still crispy. Best to dip it in the consumme. That is like flavorful beef stew. Saved the bone marrow taco for last which I regret doing. I should have spread that bone marrow butter over all the tacos. If you've ever had bone marrow before, let's just say it's like melted meat butter. Bone marrow is normally a fancy restaurant item and for the price here? It's definitely worth it! Also those red onions that come on the Huesi Tacos, it's not just decorative and colorful, they are spicy. The order does come with a side of spicy sauce, but I didn't even touch it. These tacos with the consumme was enough. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area or dying to try these bone marrow tacos!

The huesi taco was so good!! So glad we drove by and gave this place a try. The birria taco with a side of bone marrow was very flavorful, and balances the fattiness of the marrow with the sharpness of the birria very well. This place was about $10, which is pricey but not bad for bone marrow dishes in a hipster town like LA. The wait was pretty long, I saw many people order before hand and pick up and will probably do that before hand. We did run into a large group of young adults who were all not wearing masks. It's not a reflection on the truck but it was disconcerting to see such a large gathering (10-20 of us waiting for our food) of people in close proximity and so many without masks. Perhaps more signage on the masking situation would be appropriate to make your customers feel safe, thanks!

Similar to the infamous truck in LA known as Tacos y Birria La Unica but not quite the same. For those who don't want to make the drive out to the city and save yourself from waiting in line for 30+ minutes, Pepe's is the truck to go to. The tacos are unique and different from what you can normally get at a restaurant or typical taco stand. I got the three amigos which came with a quesi-taco, mulita, vampiro, and 8 oz consume. The quesi-taco is the easiest to eat with the consume since it's shaped to be dipped into the broth. The other tacos are a little harder to eat with the consume. My favorite was the vampiro because of the crunchiness factor, but be warned, it is definitely the sloppiest. There is no seating area so you're going to have to eat at the bus bench or your car. There's a parking lot next to the truck that you can park at. On a Saturday morning, the lot looked super abandoned so I'm not quite sure if there are actual businesses thriving in there. Overall, good experience and fair price.

    Taco truck!!

Glad I discovered that these tacos existed not too far from where I live! I keep seeing posts of tacos like these, but they are all the way around downtown LA and nowadays, I have ZERO desire to drive to the LA area just for tacos. According to the worker, this is a new location for them, like a month or so. Prices are higher than your everyday tacos, but these tacos are good and different! There is a parking lot of a store that does not appear to be open, so parking is easy. I saw some people parking right in front or behind the food truck also. They take cash or card. They don't put the prices ON the food truck, but I had seen the prices on their website. Food is obviously to-go as it is a food truck. Since it was my first time here, I ordered the tres amigos plate that came with 3 different tacos (quesi taco, mulita, vampiro and the consume also. Along with a soda, my total was $16. The plate was supposed to be $12, so that meant the soda was $4... quite pricey for a drink, so next time I will just get food as I rarely even drink soda. The tacos are good!! I was glad I got to try them this way! I really loved the melted cheese in it and dipping it in the consume just brought them up to the next level! It was so juicy and tasty and just all over the place messy! For the meat, they really do pack the tacos nicely! It was loaded with meat and cheese! As far as the trio goes, it basically all tasted the same to me as it was the same thing, just done three different ways. Next time I would just order a bunch of the quesi taco and a bowl of consume to go with it! The worker was also very friendly. I had my dog with me and he complimented me on my dog and how well behaved he was. I tried to take a picture of my dog with the truck, but it being a very loud and busy street, my dog refused to go near the truck haha. Would I come here again? Yes I would!! Why bother driving all the way to LA!! Food is good and very fair priced! It satisfied me! I was stuffed trying to finish the trio!

I tried Pepe's red taco at my lunch break. I really like their tacos. I ordered Quesi Taco and Huesi Taco, both are so delicious. You can felt beef's natural meat taste. I love their sauce, it just match with the taco so well, also the onions and beets are so fresh. Bone marrow is a little bit salty to me. I will try their burrito next time for sure. The food truck's exterior graphics are really colorful and pretty. Service is good and fast. Only wait about 5mins to get my order. Since the food truck is parked on Gale street which has a lot of traffics, I recommend you park the car in the nearby plaza or small streets. Because I had a hard time to get out my car after I parked my car along with the food truck on Gale. It seems like that I was risk my life to get out my car since the coming cars driving crazy fast.

Went here for the Yelp event but ended up getting a ton more from their menu, including the bone marrow tacos (unique and good!). Their tacos etc are good but I'm giving 5 stars for the soup. That consume is SO GOOD. It's so hearty and yum, My dad is the the most Asian parent ever ok, which means that he only really likes Asian food. But with their tacos, he actually said they were good and wanted to bring them home with him. Oh yes random tip this is actually a food truck , but doesn't matter and I think adds to the uniqueness of the place.

Tried the birria from Pepe's Red Tacos today for the first time. I had seen this truck around for months and last weekend I decided I wanted to try some street food. I came here and stood in line for about 15 minutes when I was told that the people in front of me were the last for the day, they had run out. So today I came back and bought quite a bit to share with my wife, pops and brother. Birria always reminds me of our trips to Guadalajara where they make it with chivo or goat. This place uses beef which is really common here in the US. I ordered two XL bowls: birria typically is shredded meat in a broth or "Consume" and you eat it with lots of tortillas. You typ put cilantro and onions in it. You can add lime if you prefer. I also ordered the sampler which is supposed to have two tacos, a dorado [hard] taco, a quesitaco [taco in a quesadilla] & 8 oz of consume. Because I was sharing I also bought four more tacos [suave]. BTW, no way that the little cup of consume I got was 8 oz but since I had two XL bowls I had plenty. The consensus of the group was that the meat was pretty bland without the consume. Then again, the reason their birria tacos instead of shredded meat tacos is because of the consume. My complete order for two XL, sampler and four tacos was $52. Sit down restaurant prices and truck venue. My birria was pretty good and the tortillas were not your standard grocery store cheapies. I was sufficiently happy with my meal. Would I go back? Probably but most likely I would drive over to Pico Rivera and get Birria Jalisco for the same price. La Barca series of restaurants [El Monte, Whittier and others is better too] but Pepe's is not bad and it's right here in Hacienda Heights [I found them on Gale & Hacienda]. So I'm torn. You can order ahead via Yelp! That's always good.

Sampler Platter w/ extra dorado taco

I got enough tacos for my family and I to try at least one. The tacos' overall taste was good, the meat was well seasoned and tender. The taco also held its shape when I squeezed a lot of lime juice into it and big dips in the consume. I thought that the amount of meat in the tacos was plentiful and how cleanly and intentionally packaged my to go order was great ... However, I thought that the consume had a heavy star anise flavor, and was not savory enough for my liking. Overall, it was a good option, but not my favorite birria tacos that I've tried.

Been chasing after various spots that serve birria. When i saw there IG, I had to see if the hype was true. And it absolutely is. I had ordered the sampler platter which cost $13.50 at the time and it came with 2 suave birria tacos, 1 quesso taco, and 1 el dorado taco. The portion was soo generous with the meat packed in. I ordered an extra side of birria quesidilla. Each platter came with a big side of Consumé. The lime, onion, cilantro and radish were packed separately for you to customize how you wanted to eat them. Also their red salsa was included. The service fast and friendly and well packed. My favorites were the Quesso tacos and the el dorado tacos and quesidillas. Not that the suave wasnt any good, but cheese on anything makes it better and the crispy el dorado tacos gave a nice texture to gonwith the flavor. I'm a dipping kinda guy so this was definitely living up to the IG photo hype.

I had passed by this restaurant before but had never been curious enough to actually stop in. This time their drink menu advertised outside caught my attention so I figured "hey, why not?" From the moment I walked in i was trying to figure out whether I liked the atmosphere or not. The music was excellent, but the décor took me a second to process. It felt like an 80s lounge crashed into a neon Día de los Muertos inspired art gallery. It's most definitely not a quiet, cozy restaurant. It has more of a loud, colorful, party style personality. I was seated promptly by a kind hostess but I wasn't attended to by a waiter for nearly 10 minutes. Once my waiter did come by he was kind, quick, and professional. Now, I'm going to be honest.. I'm pretty picky when it comes to Mexican restaurant food, so I didn't have the highest expectations. I ordered the potato taquitos, a Jarrito Loco made with watermelon purée, vodka instead of tequila, and chamoy on the rim, plus chiles toreados and one carne asada taco. Laugh all you want, but I was half expecting the food to come out looking like a cafeteria lady had splattered it onto a plate... I was genuinely impressed by the presentation instead. The potato "taquitos" were bigger than I expected so don't let the "itos" fool you. They were crispy, flavorful, filling, and honestly so delicious. Those get a 5/5 from me. My drink was also incredible. It was refreshing, especially with how hot the day was, and had just the right amount of alcohol. The presentation was so cute I almost felt bad ruining it. Easily one of the best drinks I've had in the Burbank area -- 5/5. The carne asada taco wasn't as impressive as the potato taquitos, so I'd give that a 3/5. The chile toreado was definitely spicy, it just needed to be salted a little more but otherwise no complaints! I need to remind myself not to be too quick to judge because I was genuinely surprised by this place. The décor wasn't fully my personal style, but the food and drinks more than made up for it. I'd definitely come back again, especially for the potato taquitos and drinks.

The rice had no flavor. I would come back or go to another location as it looks like there are tons in the LA area. I would just stick to the tacos.
