We had just landed at Burbank Airport and were looking for something close by before heading home. I was in the mood for Mexican food, so I let Google do the scouting. Habanero Mexican Grill popped up, and it turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. The menu is extensive, with everything from breakfast burritos to seafood, but we kept it simple and ordered a California burrito and three street tacos. When we ordered, we were told it would take a few extra minutes because everything was being made fresh. That was perfectly fine with us. The food came out piping hot and was absolutely delicious. The tacos were loaded with flavor, and the California burrito was so big it ended up being two meals. I happily turned the second half into lunch the next day. What really stood out, though, was the service. The gentleman working the counter was genuinely friendly from start to finish. As we were leaving, he thanked us and wished us well. It's a small thing, but those little moments stick with me. We'll definitely be back the next time we're passing through Burbank and craving Mexican food. My wife and I visited Habanero Mexican Grill for the first time earlier this week. We'd driven by it many times and decided to finally give it a try since we're always looking for new local restaurants. We ordered at the counter and ate at one of their outdoor tables. We ordered a carne asada sope, three carne asada tacos, a chicken taquitos combo plate (which included rice and beans), and a large horchata. I initially tried to order a gordita, but was told they didn't have any. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing overall. The staff wasn't particularly welcoming and seemed distracted during our visit. When our food was brought to the table, we weren't given any utensils or napkins. The biggest letdown was the food itself. The carne asada and taquitos were extremely bland. The sope was also not very tasty and had an unusual texture that suggested it may not have been made fresh to order. We tried both the green and red salsas to add some flavor. The green salsa had very little taste, and while the red salsa helped slightly, it still wasn't enough to improve the meal. The chicken taquitos also appeared to have been left in the fryer too long, as they were very dark and nearly burnt. The tortilla chips were the one highlight of the meal and were surprisingly good. Interestingly, I received tortilla chips with my tacos and sope, but my wife did not, so I ended up sharing mine with her. The large horchata was filled with so much ice that there was very little actual drink. We were also charged an extra $1 for the carne asada sope, even though there wasn't a similar upcharge for the carne asada tacos and the menu didn't mention it. On top of that, there was an additional 5% fee for paying with a credit card, which came as an unpleasant surprise. We had hoped to find another good local Mexican restaurant, but unfortunately this wasn't it. Between the bland food, inattentive service, and unexpected charges, we left disappointed and won't be returning. Full disclaimer before I get into this review: I am a master chef and a baker, and I have traveled more than a million miles experiencing cuisine all over the world, so I am a critic. That said, I tend to go pretty easy on people, and it takes a truly bad experience for me to leave a negative review. Let us start with the service. It was fine. The man was friendly enough, but I was surprised that he did not attempt any upsell. He did not offer a drink, ask whether I wanted extras, or suggest upgrading to rice and beans. Having owned a restaurant myself, I believe that if you run a business, you should be asking customers whether they want additional items. Generally, if someone asks me, I will buy something else. That is my philosophy: if you are working for your business, I am willing to spend more with your business. I decided to buy one of every taco they had available. They offer seven kinds of street tacos, but right away I was told that two of them were out of stock. I did not come late in the day, so that was surprising. When I got home and opened my order, I found that the five tacos had been grouped together in a way that made no sense. Three tacos were wrapped together, and the other two were wrapped together. That was a problem because al pastor has sauce, and so does chicharron, so the meats and sauces mixed together and contaminated the other tacos. The gentleman did not ask whether that was acceptable, and I certainly did not need to explain whether I was sharing my dinner. I found that very strange and very problematic. It also made for an unpleasant eating experience because I ended up with sauce on tacos that were not supposed to have it. The food itself was fine, but not particularly great. I have had much better in town, so that was disappointing. The carnitas, in particular, was extremely overcooked and very dry. I ordered two carnitas tacos and ended up throwing half of them away. In fact, I threw away an entire taco because it simply was not edible. One more issue: they add a service charge for using a card. I understand that many businesses do this now, but as a business owner myself, I know we are usually talking about less than 2 percent in actual processing costs. It is frustrating to see a 5 percent charge on the bill when that exceeds the real cost of accepting a card. Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant. They have work to do, and I did not enjoy my meal. read more

I've been trying to hit up new spots for breakfast and this weekend was the moment for Habanero Mexican Grill! I like that it's a classic walk up to order set up and the menu does have pictures. My boyfriend and I shared a breakfast burrito and huevos ranchero and they were both great!! The service was nice and the worker brought our food out to one of the tables for us. A friend of mine says she frequents the drive thru, which is another cool option. The food was great! The salsas were good. Definitely worth a try! read more

Highly recommend! I really enjoyed this. Service was great and the outdoor tables are kept clean. My order was taken right away and the worker answered all of my questions about the menu. The food came out in less than 10 minutes. Most orders come with rice and beans and complimentary chips w salsas. I really like the complimentary pickled vegetables they provide in a little baggie (pickled carrots, jalapeño, and lime wedges) I will be coming more often! We found this place on Yelp and decided to check it out because of its impressive 4.7-star rating. I'm glad we did! The Mexican food was excellent, and the staff made the experience even better. The gentleman who welcomed (Juan) us was friendly, helpful, and made us feel right at home. The place was clean, and you can either sit outside or take your food to go. Living in the area, I've made the breakfast burrito rounds around town. I happened to be nearby Habanero and decided to stop in again after a long while. I was reminded again why this is one of the better breakfast burritos for me. The beans! The burrito is made to order and packed with the standard items, potatoes, cheese, eggs and choice of meat, but what differentiates it from the rest (for me) is the beans . Additionally a comment about the sauces, I like heat, but when it comes to adding flavor I prefer the green sauce. read more

I finally tried Habanero. Owners Edith and Luis are in my Facebook group "Burbank Restaurant Support." I met Luis, he was very nice when we accidentally walked inside (it's a takeout place with patio tables outside, no dining room). We got quite a bit of food, but service was fast since we were the only ones there about 2pm. My friend like her street taco combo. The spicy red salsa is pretty hot, so beware. I'll try the mild next time. It's nice to get pickled carrots and whole peppers, a nice freebie over most Mexican fast food places. I got the carne asada nachos and it was enough for 2 meals. Loaded with meat, beans, cheese, guac, sour cream. I forgot this, and will order differently next time - I like chips, meat, and cheese like Rigoberto's or Alberto's in Placentia used to make. Massive amount of meat for $11 about 20 years ago. But I digress. I also had to eat the carnitas burrito the next day, it's huge. Perfect blend of carnitas, rice, onions, cilantro, and green sauce. I should have added cheese, but forgot. Very tasty! Carnitas was crispy. Take out, we got 3 bags of chips and plenty of salsa, so I had leftover salsa. THIS IS THE MEXICAN PLACE I'VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR. Habanero is a hidden gem. The place is small, cute and unassuming but do not be fooled! This is serious fresh, authentic, and perfectly flavored food (not salty or greasy.) My husband and I agree that Habanero is better than most sit down Mexican places in the areas, plus the service is top notch. Also as a toddler mom, the drive thru is SO convenient. I hope this place stays in business for a long long time. Grande Macho Burrito is a BEAST. When I opened my to go box I was shocked by its size. It could easily be 2 or 3 meals, and the carne asada is flavorful and juicy. If you're looking for warm cozy Mexican food, this is it. We've also tried the carnitas burrito, California burrito and carne asada plate. The regular burritos were underwhelming compared to the grande macho burrito, but still great. Would highly recommend the carne asada here. As soon as I had their food I told everyone in the neighborhood about it because I HOPE IT STAYS IN BUSINESS!!! Wanted to like this place as I just moved into the area but the food is not good and VERY expensive. Got a double cheeseburger and fries with a drink for almost $20. Burger was cold and had zero char/ seasoning, also very small amount of beef in comparison to the bun. Server was nice which is the only reason I'm giving a second star. Originally wanted a breakfast burrito but it was 17 dollars before tax... it would be an okay spot if prices reflected the quality but that's 100% not the case. read more

Overall my California burrito tasted good. Steak wasn't too fatty and was tender which was good. The drive through is a nice touch for a stand alone building so there are things going for this place. The only reason my rating is low is purely because I feel my burrito was not as advertised. I ordered a California burrito which is supposed to have French fries inside the burrito. I instead had home fries. I know it was close to lunch time but that is a sleezy thing to try and pull to save either time or money. It only takes 3-4 minutes to make French fries and it wasn't busy. The beans tasted fresh and didn't have the gross canned taste and dry texture... like they have been heated up time and time again. What can I say? I love the food here. It's restaurant quality Mexican food with the convenience of a drive-thru. As such, it doesn't have a fancy dining room or anything but what it lacks in ambiance it makes up for in food and in service. Todays experience was an interesting and kind of funny one. I was in a rush and placed an order to go online so I could just drive through to pick it up (normally if you place an order at the drive-thru you have to wait because they make the food fresh to order). When I arrived to pick up my order they had no idea what I was talking about. They said they don't take orders online and asked to see the confirmation on my phone. After a little research on their part they were able to confirm that I did indeed place an order with them (through Square). They had just never received an online order before. They were very nice about, thanked me, and got to work preparing my order immediately. In the end we all had a good laugh, I got my food, and they thanked me for my order (and probably my patience too. LOL). The people at Habanero Grill are so friendly and the food is so good. Very excellent Mexican food deliciousness at this wonderful place. I had a hard time finding the food I'd become accustomed to in San Diego once I moved to Burbank. It's easy to roll around and find some carne asada at plenty of places but guess what, the carne asada I find at fast food type establishments here tends,so often, to have knots of fat in it or is hard as a rock. At Habanero on Victory I have been extremely pleased with the quality, texture and flavor of the carne asada in particular and all the food that I've tried in general. They even have those carrots with jalapenos and lime in bags as I love. This is a place where the owner obviously takes pride in his food, selecting all of the finest ingredients. Terrific job Habenero As one finds in San Diego, do I wish to see this perfect drive-thru turn 24 hours and save Burbank late night? That would be amazing! read more

New management is a little high on their pricing, and while the quality of food has potential they need to tidy up certain areas in order to be up to par with the pricing. Decided to try this place after passing it several times. Food was just fair, but definitely not worth the high price. One veggie burrito, one carne asada burrito, and one drink, was $42.00. WTH?? Rigo's in NoHo, an actual sit down inside restaurant, is much better food, salsa bar, complimentary beans, all the fixins, less expensive burritos and much better taste and quality. My husband and daughter love this place so I really had to try it. My vegetarian husband lives by their bean and cheese burrito and also raves about their salsa verde. My order came out in a good amount of time also. This is a tiny place with a few places to sit and eat outside, there's also a drive thru, which I'll have to try out next time. There is street parking and there's a lot behind the place to park. I did enjoy my veggie burrito, but next time I'm ordering it with no lettuce. This burrito was 75% lettuce and it watered the beans down immensely. Add points because I got chips with my order. I love me some chips and salsa all day everyday. The salsa verde was so so good, just the right amount of heat with lots of flavor. All in all this was a great experience. I'm surprised there isn't a line here every time I drive by. Was craving Mexican food after a week long business trip. Didn't want to fight the Friday LA traffic after the wife picked me up from Burbank airport so just drove around and found this place. I'm glad we did! The service was great, food came out within 15 minutes and it was super tasty! I had the carne asada burrito and my wife had tacos which was even better. Ok, so I was skeptical about this corner taco stand because the other establishments there before were mediocre at best. However, my skepticism has flown out the window because the tacos were SO good! I ordered the fish tacos and the tacos patatas. Let me describe the tacos de patatas first because the a la carte order is more like an entree! The taco is hard shell (clearly fried in-house) filled with seasoned potato mash and topped with fresh cabbage, onions, and cilantro. Delicious. The fish tacos were lightly battered white fish that came in soft corn tortillas and topped again, with fresh cabbage, tomatoes, cilantro, and onions. The best thing is the tangy, spicy, sweet cream drizzled over the vegetables. The fish tacos were so good, I felt sad eating the last bite. There's a walk up order window and a drive through. I went to the walk up window and the servers were nice. In fact, they walked my order to me in the seating area. If you're in Burbank and you're in Victory and Buena Vista, make it a point to stop and get tacos. I promise you won't be disappointed. read more

It's always nice being one of the first customers to welcome a new business to the Burbank community. Habanero Mexican Grill has taken over the spot formerly occupied by Steve's Burgers and Blazin Burgers. They are located on Victory , directly behind Yogurtland. There is a drive-thru and a couple tables outside, but I don't think there is indoor seating. I walked up to the front window and started looking over the giant menu. Everything looks to be reasonably priced. I decided to keep it simple and order the street asada tacos combo plate. The friendly cashier rang me up and my meal was ready in a short time. Everything was delicious. The asada was flavorful and good quality. The rice and beans were well balanced, soft but not mushy . My meal also came with restaurant quality chips and salsa. I loved the flavor of the green sauce. Green is for us wimps that don't like spicy. But they also offer spicy red salsa. There is a parking lot in back, but also plenty of street parking.
