I stopped by Kalaveras while visiting the Jackalope Art Fair in Downtown Burbank. After walking around in the heat, I wanted somewhere with seating, shade, and A/c. I had passed by this restaurant before but had never been curious enough to actually stop in. This time their drink menu advertised outside caught my attention so I figured "hey, why not?" From the moment I walked in i was trying to figure out whether I liked the atmosphere or not. The music was excellent, but the décor took me a second to process. It felt like an 80s lounge crashed into a neon Día de los Muertos inspired art gallery. It's most definitely not a quiet, cozy restaurant. It has more of a loud, colorful, party style personality. I was seated promptly by a kind hostess but I wasn't attended to by a waiter for nearly 10 minutes. Once my waiter did come by he was kind, quick, and professional. Now, I'm going to be honest.. I'm pretty picky when it comes to Mexican restaurant food, so I didn't have the highest expectations. I ordered the potato taquitos, a Jarrito Loco made with watermelon purée, vodka instead of tequila, and chamoy on the rim, plus chiles toreados and one carne asada taco. Laugh all you want, but I was half expecting the food to come out looking like a cafeteria lady had splattered it onto a plate... I was genuinely impressed by the presentation instead. The potato "taquitos" were bigger than I expected so don't let the "itos" fool you. They were crispy, flavorful, filling, and honestly so delicious. Those get a 5/5 from me. My drink was also incredible. It was refreshing, especially with how hot the day was, and had just the right amount of alcohol. The presentation was so cute I almost felt bad ruining it. Easily one of the best drinks I've had in the Burbank area -- 5/5. The carne asada taco wasn't as impressive as the potato taquitos, so I'd give that a 3/5. The chile toreado was definitely spicy, it just needed to be salted a little more but otherwise no complaints! I need to remind myself not to be too quick to judge because I was genuinely surprised by this place. The décor wasn't fully my personal style, but the food and drinks more than made up for it. I'd definitely come back again, especially for the potato taquitos and drinks.

Was in Burbank and had never been to this restaurant, so decided to give it a try. Not sure what was previously in the space, but it looked fun. Walked in, didn't have a reservation but was able to get seated right away. Started off with the esquites with a garlic aioli, cotija cheese and chili powder. The garlic didn't come through at all, which was disappointing, really felt it needed that garlic aioli to come though to make it pop. For entrees, we got the combination plate and the Kali burrito. The combination plate, you build yourself with two or three items between tacos, enchiladas , chili relleno or taquitos. The items were decent but weren't necessarily memorable. The Kali burrito, on the other hand, was very tasty. It comes stuffed with asada, shrimp, fries, jack cheese, and avocado, among other things. A lot going on but very flavorful. Also got a cocktail, just can't remember which one it was, but it was good. Kalaveras is a newer spot in Burbank serving up Mexican style food with a California flare. Would definitely recommend the Kali burrito, and the cocktail was decent. The combination plate isn't bad but doesn't pop either. You can skip the esquites.

Made reservations for Cinco De Mayo and was super excited to try this new place! Loved the atmosphere of the restaurant when I walked in. Plenty of big screens on the wall to watch your favorite teams. Music playing loud enough to still have conversation at your table. Our waiter was very kind and attentive. The hubs and I ordered the beef fajitas and my kids ordered the $1.99 tacos ( taco Tuesday special) They have a table full of tacos garnish and sauces for everyone to serve themselves. Which i thought was clever. Ordered a couple of drinks for happy hour, they were pretty delish! Our fajitas came out in a small skillet with onions , bell peppers and jalapeños. They looked really good! Came with a side of refried beans and Mexican rice and corn tortillas. I was a little disappointed even though they fajitas had a great taste they were tough to bite apart. I was struggling to chew the meat. They rice and beans were very delicious though. The tacos of asada, carnitas were very delicious! Seasoned perfectly. I will definitely come try again and something new on the menu.

Food was amazing! Went to go watch the soccer game, they have TVs all around. Customer service was great.

Walking down Burbank's Amazing Strip we Stopped for "Taco Tuesday" @ Kalaveras (I do Miss Fudruckers Burger's). It was On and We Basically had the Hole Restaurant to Ourselves. Tacos are $1.99 Street Style but the Salsa Bar Offsets the Smaller Size Tacos. Very Nice Atmosphere and lots of Parking!!! * Definitely worth a Taco Tuesday Visit!

The service was ok. The food nothing spectacular. Not a place I would go back to. Too pricy, noisy and over all not a great experience.

Another mediocre restaurant in Burbank. We were excited to try this place as an alternative to Don Cuco's, but it was disappointing. We should have known better when we walked in for dinner and the restaurant was 90% empty, employees were just standing around chatting. Our waiter was polite, and asked us if it was our first time - we said yes. After we ordered, I asked if they give chips and salsa (as most Mexican restaurants do when you come in), he said it is upon request.. ok, sure, bring some... he brought one small basket for a party of 6. Food taste was not tasty, children's mac and cheese was a total disaster. Drinks were skinny marg's tasted like a sugary processed juice with barely any alcohol. Unimpressed...

This place has one of my favorite Happy Hours in the Valley! First, I'd like to pour one out for the North Hollywood location, which was my local Kalaveras, until it closed recently. I loved the Happy Hour there, and found myself there several times over the years I've lived in NoHo. That said, this location is still close enough, and since I'm a regular over at AMC, we get to this side of town a lot too. So, like I said, the Happy Hour's where it's at for me at Kalaveras. The frozen margaritas are all excellent, and at $10, who can beat it? We tried the asada fries too (my personal favorite, $8), the taquitos (also $8 and very tasty) and the birria queso taco trio (again, $8 and delicious). The flavors are great, the portions are reasonable, and the vibe inside is fun and colorful. The servers have been good to us every time we go, and they're consistently checking on your food and drink. The music can get a little loud sometimes, particularly towards the end of Happy Hour, so it definitely might not be your vibe if you want to have a lower-decibel conversation. After Happy Hour ends, I'm usually out of there, because it starts to feel a little more dance club-y and not so restaurant-focused (i.e. louder and a tad bit more raucous). See ya soon, Kalaveras!

Hello Kalaveras in Burbank , CA . Very sadly I'm just in the end of May and please know that the top of my photo 10:32 PM, when it's listed online they were open and they admitted that they knew this... Till 11 PM considering it at least took me five minutes to get back to my car from parking I! very busy Burbank media district....... Yes of course means I was there at 10:20 PM long before... Sally...(Who took a little too much green in "thank you sir, thank you sir," when I simply wanted them to exercise the 11 PM closing hour, And that I would put this in my rating. Desiree , was kind enough to give me her name like Sally and again I have not seen people especially in the customer service room that I've also been involved working in... be so happy to say "okay thank you sir ". (i was calm , no yelling no insults and thwyre grin and sarcasm at my dissapointment they were not honoring their publicized closing hours ...not needed. Ironically I was not only born in this town but I worked out of the same building that this particular Calaveras is located when it was in the neighborhood of the former "Burbank Fuddruckers". I even pleaded to them I would take the easiest fastest to make this and wanted to just order one drink and again their answer "we already closed everything off at 10:30" and I again reminded that was at that 10:27 & Again pointed to the Google search they did not close till 11 PM though it's a weekday and that's a rare closing hour I'll be the first to admit because I'm also in the business still yet that's what it stated on top of that they had at least five tables occupied being served. in my experience in the field with the mini on top establishments you can see in my previous ratings that I won't put in the review here at the very least a quote can we welcome you back on another day with an appetizer" considering the Oxnard and even Lately in my current town Simi Valley where I'm personal friends with the manager but will not name here did not ever experienced this before. And they themselves said I will shoot post following polite but honest review... Are you talking to someone who wears the T-shirts probably promotes on media on great services but for this review and it only on Google TripAdvisor and obviously yelp . trying to be YELPFUL , hopefully this can be received as a learning curve and in the future Burbank Kalaveras can be more helpful . (enclosed proof in pic it still wasn't even 10:30 as google publicly stated cerrado 11:00pm). we had just gotten back from a sunset memorial service at that ...)-: til next time . -=c

We were hungry and decided to give this place our first try because their menu online seemed to have some decent options. When we got there, we were seated immediately. This is not your typical warm Mexican restaurant. This more a sports bar/club layout with some weird purple neon light inside. At most Mexican restaurants the waiters/waitresses are upbeat with lots of personality. The one we had was cold, displayed no personality but was efficient. The food was surprisingly good. Will we come back? Maybe. The food is worth it but the service needs to improve.

False advertising right here!! It clearly shows it's $6.99 yet they still charge $10 during Margarita Monday!!
    Jessica R.

One star for Margarita Monday and the false advertising of this place. They advertised it as $6.99 for Margarita Monday all day yet still charged us $10 for each Margarita! When we asked, the waitress claimed it was because it was a slushy, yet they are listed as the same price on the menu. Please remove the sign on your door that says $6.99 if you aren't going to charge this! Not to mention the addition of extra fees that you neglect to tell your customers about when they use credit cards. This is also an illegal practice, You have the nerve to even have a display of the margaritas and say they are $6.99. The display even features slushies! Please remove this if you aren't going to abide by it! You are luring in customers with the false promise of a deal. Also one star for rude customer service! I will never come to your institution again and will tell everyone I know to not come as well!

I've been to maybe 6 different Kalaveras; I've had bad experiences at almost all of them except this one and Silverlake. The Noho one is closest to my house, but I had such a bad experience I've not been back and have been reluctant to write a review, but maybe soon. Now for this location, probably my favorite of the kalaveras so far, I came here on a weekday around 3 pm, and it was empty. Happy hour was just starting, and staff was just chilling, waiting for people to come in. Once we walked in, we were attended to quickly; our waiter, a gentleman, sat us down and immediately went to bat for us. This guy was extremely amazing and attended to all our needs. Explained the happy hour menu and got us our happy hour drinks. My wife ordered her enchiladas not on happy hour, and I got my happy hour wings. The food was delicious; I enjoyed my wings. The only downside about these wings in Burbank is that in Silver Lake I get 8 wings during happy hour, but here I got 5, so I was a little sad when I saw only 5 wings instead of 8. But they were still so good, and I got a happy hour quesadilla as well. The waiter kept constantly checking on us, refilling our drinks and removing dirty plates in a timely manner. The food and everything was fresh and was given to us quickly. I must say this is the best service I've received at any of the Kalaveras locations. The whole restaurant is big, the biggest I've seen by far, and they have their usual music playing, and they have a unique menu of food and drinks. Those long yards I have yet to see at the other locations, so getting myself an Adios Long Yard or a Long Island for $10 was amazing. Overall this location was a great addition to the city and so far seems to be the best of the Kalaveras I've visited, so this means I will most likely return to this one more often than the others. Can't wait to be back for happy hour!

Very, very disappointed about my visit. Went to celebrate a birthday on a Thursday night and it was definitely not the kalaveras vibe we expected. Lights on, NO AC. We ordered drinks and the waiter "forgot" my drink. Brought it after everyone received their food. Then, forgot my food somehow. I ordered aguachiles and they were the driest aguachiles I've ever had. Just shrimp with no sauce. Did not bother to compensate anything. Very poor customer service. Visibly saw the birthday balloons and flowers and didn't say happy birthday once, didn't offer to sing happy birthday. Just a terrible $200 dinner. Do not recommend!!

The server was saying he was trying to find a manager to help out but they were nowhere to be found. Clearly management is fine with these service times since they're still making $$$. The drinks were delicious, and I loved that there were heaters on the patio (though they did get very hot at times). Our server was so kind and brought us a celebratory drink. I do wish there were more explanations with the beverages, especially for the Paid Vacation as most people will not realize you're supposed to bite into the buzz button for the tingly sensation. Our waitress was nice and attentive at the right time. We got a Cobb salad and a chicken plate. Their chicken quality is soooo good. The Cobb salad has all the right amount of toppings and they mix in the dressing, much appreciated! Every bite has the dressing on it. I sub for blue cheese dressing, and it has a hint of mint that is perfect to balance out the heaviness of the egg, bacon and cheese crumbles. I also add crispy chicken. The chicken plate with hummus and pita is also really good. It's a thin slice of chicken, cooked just right. Their fries are crispy and flavorful. Their portions are big, so it's good to share. They have a ni outdoor patio too. Music they were playing was a good mix and not too loud. Enough to be able to hear it, but still have a conversation. Overall, recommend this place for lunch!

I enjoyed the back patio. They have a giant TV in the back and fire pits, so you can watch sports there and even play billiards. It's a bit of a walk from the all the other cool businesses on Magnolia, but this bar is worth it. And the staff are friendly. I'll be coming back here.

The Snug really lives up to its name by being a small, cozy and friendly Irish bar. Some might…read moreclassify it as a "dive," but that would be unfair -- it's a local place, sure, and totally no frills... but I counted more than 50 bottles of Call and Top Shelf Irish Whiskies, plus just as many bottles of Bourbon, Scotch, American and Japanese Whiskies, and a quartet of Pappy Van Winkle... this ain't no dive. Still, the drink prices are very fair. Barkeep Elizabeth was friendly from the get-go, and checked on me repeatedly to make sure I had what I needed. The digital jukebox was playing lively tunes, and the daytime crowd was laidback and chatty. There's no food in this pub, but packaged snacks (chips, nuts, etc.) are readily available, and I'm told you can bring in anything you like to eat. Fantastic!! Despite being on the "road to nowhere corridor" (Magnolia Blvd. between Hollywood Way and Cahuenga), and being incredibly easy to drive past, The Snug is a welcoming little bar with a genial crowd that's very much worth keeping your eyes and GPS peeled to find. You'll be as glad as I am that you did.

Ya'll, this here is a gem! You go in and there's none of that pretentious bs. Don't got to worry…read moreabout others judging you. Everyone is literally there to have a good time, doing their own thing. Like I want to say, this is a safe place (?) I don't think I've ever used those words to describe a bar before! There's an entire wall of board games for you to choose from. We played about 3 or 4 games? And each one had all the pieces, amazingly! This just goes to show you that the people that visit this establishment respect and care for the games, which is a reflection on the clientele itself. And of course, you're welcome to bring your own game as well. We got there a bit after opening so we were able to get one of the multi seater tables. When we left at 3PM, the place was packed! The bar seats were all taken and the outside seating was pretty filled too. So be sure to get here early if you're looking for a table. Got an order of the chicken tenders and sweet potato tots. The chicken tenders was alright. But the sweet potato tots were delicious! We also ordered drinks. The food didn't take long and the staff was friendly. Parking is strictly street parking. So don't go parking at the KFC lot next door. Honestly, this place is great! Check it out if you're looking for a spot to chill and hang out! Good people and good vibes all around!

But Over/Under has a distinct advantage with its cozy, sports bar feel and friendly staff. The booths are comfortable, the booze selection is ample, and there are a whole bunch of TV's for watching games. Our server, Chelsea, was a very good egg; funny and very helpful with suggestions re the menu and various drinks. She checked on us repeatedly, and made sure we had all we needed. My wife ordered a Gummy Bear Shot that was tart and sweet and very enjoyable. On the food side, the menu is filled with the greatest hits of casual, sports bar foods, but all kicked up several notches and more interesting than the usual. My wife ordered the Truffle Burger, replete with onions and mushrooms and cheese. The trappings were all very tasty, and the burger itself was packed with flavor, and came cooked to a very proper medium rare. The side of lemon-pepper fries were hand cut and crispy, though the citrusy tang wasn't my thing. A tad less successful was my Pastrami Sandwich. The meat, listed as house-made, had good flavor but was tough. The kale slaw with it also had good flavor, and the slight bitterness was a nice foil for the rich pastrami. Onion rings were excellent, and (regardless of the lemon-pepper) the better bet as a side. All in all, this is a great, comfy place with a good menu and a really welcoming staff. I'd go back in a heartbeat to try the wings and pizza, both of which looked excellent when delivered to neighboring tables.
