I haven't had these since I was a child. The shredded beef quesadilla will melt in your mouth- my personal favorite. But we have probably ordered everything on the menu throughout our times going. Made my third visit here tonight. Given that there are a lot of Mexican restaurants in the area, this one always stands out to me. Nothing special but just good food, plenty of it and a good price. We had the carne asada, carne asada tacos and the huevos con chorizo. All of it was very well seasoned and cooked perfectly. We will definitely be back soon. read more

As I waited for my client, I had the server come by to check on me several times, after my client showed up and got her drink, the waitress didn't come by for about 20 min (the restaurant was semi-empty). Ordered a cheese dip as a appetizer and also ordered food, and everything came out at once. We both ordered the lunch fajitas, one chicken and one steak with shrimp. Unfortunately, both they brought were chicken. After having to wait a while for service I wasn't going to have them fix the order. Once again the server disappeared and we never got refills. It wasn't until I asked for the check that I see our server again. The food was delicious, and plenty of it for a reasonable price. Really liked the cheese dip. If service improves, I think this would be a great place to visit on a regular bases. read more

Much better than your average Mexican joint. I come here often for lunch with co-workers and it never disappoints. They have an entire menu full of delicious Mexican eats, and a whole page of lunch specials/combos as well. The price is right here - everything is extremely affordable. In addition, the wait staff is friendly and polite, and they respect your lunch hour by providing quick service. If it is nice outside, they have a great outdoor patio in the front of the restaurant. My favorite thing to order here is the fajita quesadilla lunch special with chicken. For only $5.99 you get a large quesadilla stuffed with sautéed peppers and unions, grilled chicken, (whole pieces, not shredded), and melty cheese. It comes with lettuce, tomato, guacamole, and sour cream on the side. I've also had their chicken burrito and chicken taco lunch specials which are equally tasty. I would not recommend ordering their fish tacos - their pieces of fish were very thin and not substantial. I don't know how I missed reviewing this place, I've been coming here for years. This is a great place to come to if you're feeling like Mexican food. I usually get the carnitas with some corn tortillas on the side. They have some drink specials usually, as well as frozen margarita specials. The menu isn't very unique, probably the same as many other Mexican restaurants, but the food has always been good and hot, and you can get out of here for around $30/couple. They also have an outdoor patio, so you can sit outside when it is nice. There usually isn't a weight, but they always seem pretty busy. read more

I have been coming here at least once a week for 5 years - absolutely love the place! I would recommend avoiding on Sunday lunch because of how crowded it can be, but most other times you should be good to sit down and get served very quickly! The queso is a must have and their salsa is delicious and tastes fresh. The chips are on the thicker side. I personally enjoy the fajitas - both chicken and steak! My father enjoys trying all sorts of things on the menu and the waiters are all super knowledgeable since most of them have been working there for years. Our visit to the new El Caporal restaurant in Mason was a positive one...crispy corn tortilla chips are served warm from the oven and salsa is just hot enough to require a few iced tea refills. Glancing at the menu, we noted El Caporal plugs their white queso dip as "world famous," so of course we had to try it. A nice gravy-boat sized dish of the creamy cheese, seasoned mildly with jalapeno, was a great start to our Sunday lunch. We were so pleased with the queso that all three members of our party decided to incorporate it into their entres. My boyfriend and I ordered the "Burrito Enamorado," which he was entirely enamored with. I personally am not a fan of full strips of bell and red pepper, onion, and massive cooked tomatoes inside my burritos (chop 'em all up and I'm game... it's a texture thing), but he loved it. I did, however, enjoy the flavors that the peppers and tomatoes added to my grilled chicken and everything mixed well with the topping of queso dip. If you're a Fajita style burrito lover, order this dish for sure. The other member of our party of three was a slightly less adventurous diner; she ordered an a la carte burrito filled with nothing but ground beef and rice...but she loved it, to each their own! Atmosphere is definitely "south of the border" but not in an overdone cheesy cacti or sombrero fashion. Comfortable red booths line the perimeter of the decent sized restaurant; wooden tables fill out the rest. There is a separate bar at El Caporal that upon inspection carried a vast number of tequilas and other liquor choices. I will definitely be heading back to El Caporal to sample their margarita selection later in the week (no liquor on Sundays, unfortunately) and to try another dish from the menu...I saw another diner order a taco salad that looked tasty and fresh. read more

Last week some friends from work and I were going to lunch. We'd planned to eat Indian, but since we had to go earlier than normal, the Indian restaurant wasn't open. Fortunately for us, El Caporal was open at 11:00. It was a total win. They had a great selection of your typical Mexican fare; however, the end product was way better than typical. I thought they had a nice array of vegetarian dishes. Everything seemed very fresh and was very generously sized for a very reasonable price. As usual, there were free chips and salsa...this salsa had a big bite, but I still couldn't stop eating it even though my lips and tongue were on fire. All five of us deemed this place a keeper. I can't wait to go back and try it for dinner. Oh, and if you get there at 11:00 on a Friday, you'll get your choice of seats. read more

El Corporal is one of my favorite Mexican places in Cincinnati. Their tacos are fresh made and the chicken tortilla soup is so so tasty! I often visit this place for lunch with friends who work in the area and have to say I have never been disappointed. They have good beers on tap. The only downside is that their hot salsa is never hot enough for me. But I live on the spicy side of life. I'm sure it's hot enough for most other people. Definitely check this place out. read more

We live very close to El Caporal but had never bothered to come here. They are kind of a mini-chain, they have a few locations in Kentucky, one in Indiana and one here in Mason, Ohio. The interior is pretty clean and well kept. We really were just looking for a quick meal and I really wanted nachos, so we got the Queso Fundido (a Mexican fondue-style dish with chorizo and served with tortillas) and the beef, bean and cheese nachos. The food came quickly and was as good as we hoped it would be. The salsa was fairly standard, the chips were warm and crispy, and everything was overall pretty good. For being in a hurry they were accommodating and friendly. It was after normal dinner hours too so they weren't busy. I plan on coming back for a full meal to properly review them, but so far I think they are way better than Cazadores right around the corner. read more

With restaurants begging for business right now and as a longtime customer of this restaurant, I placed an order this evening through DoorDash at 7pm. At 8pm I got a phone call from my Dasher stating that the restaurant wasn't going to fill anymore DoorDash orders. No food and no refund! The Dashers (there were 10 of them waiting on orders) were than ordered to leave the restaurant. I will never step foot in this restaurant again! Their servers have been rude and indifferent in the past, but this takes the cake. I sincerely hope that none of my tax dollars went to keep them in business. I love this place! The wait staff is almost always friendly and accommodating. I enjoy how chips are brought over right after ordering drinks- good chips and good salsa! The portions are a little larger than expected, but whose complaining? It's great to save and warm up later. My criticisms are small- it can be hard to find parking, especially on busy weekend nights and the seating (depending on where you are seated) can be less private than desired. While service was great and the food tasted good, my son and I have been paying for it all night. Sparing details, it's enough to say that if a place doesn't take the care to exercise safe, quality care in it's food prep, we will not return. El Caporal is A+. I've been to many many Mexican restaurants and recently very very disappointed in high end glamorous looking Mexican joints with low quality food. El Caporal is focused on providing high-quality food with a great experience the people that work there treat the business like it's their families and they are a tentative and treat you like you are important. Their food is fantastic their quantities are good their costs are low they overwhelm you with chips and I always have a beer special that is ridiculously low cost. Hi all, read a bunch of good reviews so decided to try it since it was close by and I had a bogo 50% off for lunch. I had their supposingly signauture Burrito Especial which was nothing more than a burrito grilled steak with onions topped with a white cheesy sauce. The steak was quite dry and chewy (precooked). My dw had the chicken enchiladas (the chicken was quite dry). Service was prompt but nothing special (take your drinks, then order, then ask if your meal is okay). It was a real "meh" for me and my dw. I would not go back as there's def much more and better mexican restaurants but since I had a coupon I decided to try it anyways. read more

I ask for the mgr, he comes out and tells me that I am free to leave but he's going to call the police. No. That's not the way I do things. I call them myself. Had Dinner here on Saturday night. The service was fabulous as was the food. We both had the medium size Margarita's and they were very cold; very tasty and big. The Salsa and Cheese Sauce was some of the very best we have tasted. The Salsa was not watery and it was very flavorful ... same goes for the cheese sauce which had small bits of chili pepper in it. I had a huge burrito that was filled with spicy pulled pork, onions and Jalapeno Peppers. It was delicious, spicy and hot! My only criticism at this point would be they could do a lot more with the inside of the place. The food and drink was great and we will be going back. Prices are very reasonable. read more

The food was 4 stars, pretty good! The service was -5. The restaurant was completely empty. We were the only ones there. The manager was our server. We were seated quickly and had our orders taken reasonably fast. When the food was brought out, the manager stopped to talk on the phone and dumped some of one of our dishes on the floor because he was too busy on the phone. He brought the food like nothing happened. Our cups were empty a few minutes after beginning to eat and the manager sat across the restaurant in a chair watching us eat and never even offered to refill our drinks until I looked over at him and told him we needed more from across the restaurant. Little things like that are ok if you are jam packed busy but we were the ONLY ones there. We also had to ask for the check after we had been done eating for about 10 minutes. Again, wouldn't be a big deal if we weren't the only ones in the restaurant. To top it all off, we were about to leave and there was an employee asleep and snoring in a booth near the door. 2 stars solely because the food was great but the service was SO bad. Not allergy friendly! My wife has a shellfish allergy. We ordered take out and my wife ordered the classic fajitas which come with chicken, steak and shrimp. I specifically said no shrimp on it because of an allergy. Somehow it either got cross contaminated or a line cook remembered no shrimp after the fact and just took it off instead of remaking it. We are writing this review from the ER, need I say more? We love El Caporal! We eat there nearly once a week. It starts with the great service. The wait staff is awesome. The cheese dip and warm chips are great. Sometimes I get the bean dip which also has queso in it. I favor any of the meals that have grilled chicken in them. It is really good and juicy. My two stand-by's are Grilled Chicken Taco's and the Burrito Especial. You can't beat a big grilled chicken burrito topped with cheese dip! My daughter loves the kids menu (usually a soft taco) and my wife enjoys the Burrito Deluxe (with cheese sauce on top, not red sauce). The whole menu is really good. They are also great with large groups. We have had many birthday meals there. read more

The food taste was just ok. we ordered some enchiladas that was in the menu picture and we ended up tasting a very normal food and I definitely did not find anything interesting in the taste or in the menu.
