El Carporal is very similar to El Rancho Grande; the prices, menu items, and quality are almost exactly the same. I really like the clean interior, price points, and speed of El Carporal. Oh I dig this place! They will upgrade your teeny-weeny thimbleful of magarita to a punchbowl...a veritable swimming pool with a straw...for only a couple bucks more. Thank goodness the portions are so big or else I'd have nothing else to soak up all of that liquor! Try the fajitas here or the veggie quesadilla. Have to say this is my go to Mexican joint in Mason. Food here is great especially compared to all the suburban chains nearby. A hidden gem is the fish tacos. Queso is so good that I have observed people stopping by and just getting take out of chips and queso. Interior is clean and basic. Very family friendly too. Staff is patient and friendly with kiddos. I have not had the issues with service or varied food quality that others have had and I visit this restaurant at least twice a month. (Also my 10 year old son wants me to say that kids should get the cheese quesadilla and the queso) read more

I went here for the first time with three of my friends in the afternoon. The food was okay. The queso was amazing and the highlight of our meals. I had Lunch Special #17, the Carnitas Lunch, and the pork wasn't crispy and didn't come with sour cream even though it's description stated that it would. The service was alright and our waitress was very nice. However, after me and one of my friends paid, another waitress gave my friends a little head nod to tell them to leave/pay even though they were still eating. Went there this past weekend. Got in right away but it was loud. The chips were good and hot. The salsa had a great spice (not heat but spice) to it kind of a smokey pepper maybe chipotle added. The queso was good. I got the chile poblano rellenos because our waiter stated the difference between the and the chile rellenos was the pepper and then I asked if meat was in the poblano he stated yes. It was still very good but no meat! Oops. Husband got a steak and it was great cut up. There was nothing wrong but the comment about the salsa is what makes it stand out and nothing else but the noise to lower the rating so it is your normal mex restaurant good quick and tasty! read more

I waited 15 minutes- I timed it- without a word from anyone on staff. No eye contact, no greeting, nothing. This place was great about a year, or so ago. Since then, they have taken me from a regular, to a never again! I have given several chances, but they disappoint every time. They have NEVER made good on their poor services, which is poor. It all started with a disgusting long, black hair in my salsa. We were not fans based on our first visit almost 4 years ago. We gave El Cap another chance and glad we did. This our go to Mexican spot when the "what are we doing for dinner" question comes up. The place is loud and very casual- perfect for our two boys. The wait staff is very friendly and accommodating, again great for kids. The food is good and comes out quickly. My family and I visit this restaurant at least once a month, and we are never disappointed. There has never been a wait longer than about 10 minutes, and our waiter is always top-notch. The complimentary chips and salsa are delicious, as well as the queso (which we always order). After visiting El Caporal so many times, we don't even have to look at the menu to know what we will order, fajitas for two and tacos. The fajitas for two can be easily split between four members of our family, and I've never heard any complaints about the taco. Food arrives very soon after you order it, and the sight of the still sizzling meat has my stomach growling before the plate is even set down. If you are going to try the fajitas, I'd recommend the chicken and steak fajitas. If you'd like, you can also order an extra side of refried beans (best I've ever tried). Overall, the entire experience is wonderful, and I always have a great time. I have to give El Caporal 5 stars, because I've never had an experience that wasn't fantastic. The service is great, the food is to die for, and the atmosphere is always pleasant. If you're ever in the area, stop by El Caporal! read more

This place is a must go! The food is excellent, the service is outstanding, and the price is right! We take the family here often, and always have a terrific meal. We particularly enjoy their fajitas and their Burritos Enamorado. If that isn't enough, consider this example of their outstanding and personal customer service. Example: While out of state, my elderly mother became very ill and was house-bound. While recovering, she was running low on food and couldn't get to the grocery store. I called El Caporal, and asked if they would deliver her a meal (Chicken Fajitas, her favorite). Although they do not deliver food (solely "dine in" or "pick up"), the manager was compassionate and immediately agreed to deliver her a meal within 10 mins!! I offered to pay for gas, mileage, time...whatever, but he refused any extra compensation. The meal was delivered on time, and my mother was extremely appreciative, and thoroughly enjoyed her dinner. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants not only a great meal but a phenomenal, family-oriented staff. read more

We think this place in fabulous and has the best frozen lime margaritas in the world=) Our favorite dish is definitely the fajita quesadilla (only on the lunch menu but they will make it for you for dinner). Good service, comfortable and casual atmosphere, and an outdoor patio for seating if you wish to sit outside. We have a hard time going anywhere else in Cincinnati for Mexican. We have been to this restaurant a few times and each time the service gets worse. We walked in and the maitre-d didn't even acknowledge us. My favorite Mexican restaurant in the Mason/West Chester areas. You can't go wrong with the Burrito Especial, the Burrito Enamorado, or the Burrito Ranchero which is filled with Carnitas/pulled pork and Chorizo. They put their Queso dip on top of these burritos which is so good. Fajitas are also excellent. Complimentary chips and salsa is decent. Service is always good.
