I used to like this place until the service started to get bad, the food is okay but I'm not coming back here anymore because when there was a big line and I was waiting to place my order they skip me and acted like the people behind me had placed a order just to cut in line because they knew the lady and they got their food first, and if you are not one of their regular customers then they will treat you like they won't care. The food is ok, nothing special, we mainly go for the convenience that the food is ready., however their customer service is the worse I've seen. I once experienced one of the workers treating another co worker really bad. She got on her face and called her an animal and told her to learn to make pupusas and tossed the pupusa to the trash. It was in front of everyone. Every time we call to order they have a horrible attitude, like you are doing them a favor. It's very sad that they don't treat loyal customers right. Definitely consider coming to this Carrusel bakery instead of the one on Vanowen. Much friendlier staff, cleaner, and faster service. I was referred to this bakery as I was looking for a place with really good pupusas. Upon entering I was immediately greeted and helped after the customer before me. I placed my order and was informed it would take a little bit of time. I looked around while I waited which was all of maybe 10 minutes or less. All the ladies working were very nice and asked me if I had been helped yet. The space was clean and they were actively cleaning whatever needed cleaning. I come here for the croissants and pastries mostly but they have other cooked food too. The bakery is very nice inside but you cannot see the inner quality of the bakery from the outside. Ok....I stayed a bit longer and ordered a pupusa to go....on parm with its reseda store....I'm guessing they are they same as they have the same name...... This place is a hit and miss. I originally came here cause I wanted an Ensalada drink. They did not disappoint because it was delicious. Ok our first try we did go about 15 minutes before closing so we could only get what they had behind the counter. We got our order to go. So we got Pupusas, chicken flautas and plantains. The Pupusas we got were the bean and cheese, just cheese, meat and cheese and a spinach and cheese. They were really good. Perfect amount of cheese and just cooked perfectly. I love soft almost smushy plantains and that's what they had. Just delicious! A small order is huge and lasted me 2 days. On our second trip we went a few hours before they closed and they didn't have much. They were all out of Pupusas but they would take your order and make what you wanted. So we ordered bean and cheese ones, just cheese ones, spinach and cheese and lorroco and cheese. Then we wanted there chicken flautas and they said they don't make them. They don't make them? We just got 4 of them like a week ago.... I looked all over the menu and couldn't find them either. Well I was lucky enough to try it the first time cause we're probably never seeing them again. I wanted a small order of plantains again and she's like do you want to try them and I was like sure. They were hard and starchy and almost like she knew they were bad and wanted me to try it first before I bought it. So the plantains were a definite miss! We took our Pupusas home and it was filled with so much cheese it was all bubbled out from the sides. It was excessive and excessively oily. It was tasteless and bland and almost had us at the point of never going back. I think it was just a horrible cook that day. I'm never going back on a Saturday again. I'll try them one more time and if they've improved I'll give an update. But for now just 3 stars. read more

I came in on a whim looking for coffee and I walked out with a champurrado that was very tasty. It was not too hot or not too cold nor too sweet or to bitter. It was just perfect! Their food looked delicious and the place smelled great. I do like how they have tables on the side to eat and it was very clean. However, I did not like their customer service at all from the 2 ladies working. My co worker and I were not greeted and I try to be flexible with this as they were busy...but even when we were attended, no hello, no smiles, no nothing. Not only that, but there isn't a sign that says order here, so, it's a bit confusing where to go and place an order. And it didn't help that the 2 ladies were just looking at us and not saying one word. So, other people that got there after us were attended before us. Again, lacking customer service skills. Who in their right mind thinks it's ok to have poached eggs sitting under a heat lamp!?! This place!!! Came here to pick up an order and decided to have breakfast. I ordered some huevos rancheros and was appalled when the gal scooped up my eggs from the sitting food pans right in front of me. I was stupid in not saying no to the order as that is so wrong! Eggs are easy to make and should never be sitting under a heat lamp. Suffice it to say I didn't eat the eggs but ate the beans and plantains the order came with. I love all the ladies behind the counter they are always smiling and happy to see you. If you want a good old fashioned salvadoreña food served up with a warm smile and excellent service come here. Bakery good are priced well and scrumptious. You can stop by for pan and cafe with your friends. The parking can be a pain sometimes but good food might be worth the short walk around the block. We got a mix of food items to try and each item was meh. The pupusas we're fresh and meaty but lacked flavor. The plantains we're green and starchy and the beans served alongside were an absolute salt lick! I could not eat them. Also, there was something off about the crema, my sister said it tasted like they mixed mayo into it. My tamal was all masa and was also lacking flavor. Lastly, the quesadilla was just a sweet bread, more like a pound cake, not like the quesadillas I'm used to. Oh well, the search continues. read more

Although both of them were absolutely delicious, I voted for the horchata cake and it was a HUGE HIT at my birthday gathering. On weekends they serve soups. Sopa de Pata and Sopa de Gallina are hands down authentic and home style. Hand made tornillas come along with the soups. This little gem never disappoints, always has great drinks as well. Hot and cold, traditional Salvadoran drinks, my favorite is Ensalada. Servers are always nice and try to get to you quickly, worth the 5-10 min wait (that's the most I've waited in line). Pupusas! That's really what I come here for. They will have some ready made and warmed, especially their more common options. If you ask for something out of the ordinary like the mushroom one or zucchini one, they would have to make one which will take up to 20 minutes. You'll get the cabbage and the hot sauce toppings too. The sauce isn't hot at all, but adds a nice flavor. I like that their pupusas do not taste overly greasy and even if I get the pork one, it's not overly heavy. I tend to stare at the other bakery items and their aguas frescas, but haven't had enough of a carb/sugar craving to indulge. The ladies who work here have always been friendly to me, but sometimes we have a hard time understanding each other with the language barrier. They can get pretty busy during the lunch hour. The parking lot is tiny and cramped. Just cross your fingers you'll snag a spot and fold your mirrors in. Don't worry, the struggle to get that parking spot will be worth it. read more

I was searching Yelp and google for a good place that sells pupusas. Every restaurant I looked at didn't have the best reviews and I wasn't finding a place that carried yummy pupusas. I was reading reviews from one of the suggested restaurants and the reviewer said that the pupusas were delicious at El Carrusel Bakery. I immediately searched ECB and sure enough, they had great reviews. I ordered the bean and cheese, the pork/bean/cheese, and the zucchini and cheese one. They were all so delicious, that I regret not buying more. I also bought some chicken and pork tamales. I've never had Salvadoran tamales! They were packed with flavor but not packed with meat. They had a lot of masa, rather than a lot of meat. I think that's just how they make them. Instead, they had a lot of vegetables (garbanzo beans and green beans) ,and a big potato chunk inside. I still really enjoyed them. I also got some sweets, which were really good. I'll definitely be going back to get more food. I want to try their pan de pollo. read more
