The food was not good, I only gave it a 2 star since the service was good but the food is a total fail. I ordered the carne asada enchiladas and they were cold. The refried beans had a nasty taste. I will not be going there again. read more

Love the margaritas here! The flight is my absolute favorite and you get to pick the flavors!! The food is all good! Their fajita meat is NOT gluten free, but they will grill me chicken for most chicken dishes without the marinade. Other things are gluten free like tostadas, flautas, queso flameado etc. The servers are very friendly and really helpful with food changes. read more

Ate here a couple days ago and was thinking about how AWESOME the food was I had to leave a review. I had the chicken fajita nachos and I loved that they have half portions, I only ate half of the half portion and took the rest home! It was sooo delicious and they didn't skimp on the Guac and sour cream at all. Prices were all super reasonable too! The salsa and chips were very flavorful, the red sauce was nice and warm and the green sauce was really delicious. Even the chips seemed really crisp and fresh. The waiter was also super, super nice and incredibly fast. We didn't ask for refills or more chips, they just magically appeared. Food came out incredibly quick too, and was presented really nicely and as aforementioned, was so delicious. Overall, I'd give this place a 10/10 if I could!! My only tidbit would be a little less sugar in the tea but otherwise, it was the perfect date place! Will definitely come here more often! read more

Had the rudest server this evening at the Kuykendahl location, didn't offer refills, didn't clear plates, the first time he greeted us he asked us to order our food. It felt very rushed. I believe his name was Jose-Luis. Also the Fox News playing while I'm trying to eat is not something I appreciated. Turn off Fox News and get some servers who actually have manners. read more

First visit a few weeks ago was less than expected. I'd heard some good things but my chimichanga was bland, as were the beans and rice. The best part, oddly, was the warm salsa and basket of hot chips. I also loved the green salsa. I tried again this past Thursday. I asked about happy hour and felt like I had asked for a top secret, yet there is nothing special about their happy hour. She did say enchiladas were half price on Thursdays. The chicken enchilada was very tasty and the beans and rice were flavorful. My 1st visit must have been a day the 2nd string cook was in. Their margarita was fairly lousy both visits, possibly the worst Rita's in Houston. They are bitter and lackluster. Next time I will just get wine. read more

Let me start by saying that I usually love coming to this place and we sort her visit or take out once a week. I took my team to lunch as a team building experience. It was a group of 12 of us. The waiter that was assigned to us named Rigoverto was very snippy with all of us. For instance, when he came to take our drink order after 10-15 min of being there I asked if we can do drinks and food since we had to get back to work. He said he had a routine which I accepted. When I asked for a straw after getting my drink he put 2 down in what seemed aggressively. It took over 45 minutes to get our food, the place was virtually empty, but we didn't say anything knowing that we were a big group. I ordered Tacos Al Carbon and when he put the plate in me it didn't look like what I ordered. It was a sad tortilla wrapped like a burrito with fajita. I said I don't think this is mine so he took it. He shushed my team and yelled out who ordered tacos Al carbon. I chimed in and said, I'm sorry...it is mine. I was expecting something different. He put the plate down while talking under his breath and continued showing frustration. When it was time to pay I asked my friend to my food on her card since they don't take Apple Pay. No big deal, but when I saw the receipt it said 2 tacos Al carbon. I stopped Rigoverto and asked him if that was right. He said yes, she's paying for another person too and in front everyone said you are in everyone's business. I asked him if he had a problem with me since I sensed attitude from him and he said, yes, you keep bothering me. I was in awe. I said he was rude and disrespectful and he replied that he didn't really care. The manager came and apologize and I told her I would not return and he started giving a thumbs up and clapping in front of everyone including the manager. She didn't help by taking over and allowed him to continue behaving rudely. Everyone was charged a 20% up charge for being a big table so he didn't care about tips. I'm sad to say goodbye to El Chaparro after such a humiliating experience. This was the spring location on Gosling. read more

Food is good, but service is inconsistent and usually not good. Went this evening asked if we could sit outside and no one ever came to our table. We waited 15 minutes. Restaurant wasn't busy at all. There was one other table outside and a waitress came by at least twice to check on them and even had a quick conversation about how slow they've been and she's only had 3 tables all day. 3:00 PM. Monday, day after Christmas and the place was slammed. Very busy and obvious staff shortage. Nevertheless, after a short delay our party was seated, drinks ordered, and chips and salsa served. Staff was obviously very busy but they still handled everything perfectly and with a smile. Food and drinks were absolutely on point and very enjoyable. El Chaparro is not so far from where I live and this was probably my fourth or fifth visit and each one was very pleasant from both a food and service standpoint. This place checks off all the staples that make a great Tex-Mex restaurant: great margaritas, yummy red & green salsa, thick queso, and killer fajitas. One thing that really impressed me was the margarita flight. I always have a difficult time choosing a flavor, so being able to order 4 sample sizes at a time is great! The flavors you can choose from are banana, peach, mango, strawberry, raspberry, sangria, and lime. They also have coconut, (not on the menu) which I ordered a large of and it was delicious! The food is well-made and the atmosphere is great for any sort of group or couple. The booths are super intimate so you can get lost in conversation and forget you're in public. The service was incredible! Besides our waitress, we had 3 or 4 other people checking on us in-between and all this while they were super packed. The only reason I can't give a full 5 stars is because the waitress messed up our orders a couple of times. I asked for margaritas OTR and she kept bringing frozen, and my friend asked for nachos and got quesadillas. I didn't say anything about the margs, but when my friend told her she had ordered nachos, it was fixed in like 5 minutes. It was a very busy Friday night so mistakes are bound to happen. The service is top notch and the food is amazing. I've gone twice now; once with my boyfriend and another with my little ones. There's hand sanitizer everywhere and the restaurant is sparkling clean. This place never disappoints. It's consistent, seafood options are always fresh and we love the vegan refried black beans.

If you go on your birthday, watch out! They'll put a sombrero on your head, sing to you AND put whip cream on your nose. I'm totally serious. It was hilarious though. We have been to the other El Chaparro a few times, and decided to try this one. We went later on a Saturday evening--the place was full but we still did not have to wait. We ordered several Tex-Mex standards. First off, fajitas--every restaurant says they have the best ones, but these do stand out. The beef is tender and very flavorful. They include a serving of clarified butter, which I have seen with seafood before but never beef. I love clarified butter with pretty much anything, so this worked for me. I liked the standard beef fajitas better than the combination I got the last time I was there. Next up, seafood. We ordered Betty's Shrimp, which was a tasty combination of sauteed shrimp and vegetables. The shrimp were nicely done. The vegetables were more "southern style", pretty thoroughly cooked but not falling apart and well seasoned. It came with cilantro rice, which was very good--I prefer it to the standard Tex-Mex rice. We also got a combination enchilada plate. The presentation was very nice, with each one well separated on the plate. These were fine but did not stand out. The restaurant offers free soft-serve ice cream, but we ordered a couple of desserts--sopapillas and chocolate cake. The sopapillas had plenty of sugar and cinnamon. They were a bit heavy for my taste but were fine--came with a nice garnish of whipped cream. The chocolate cake is made in-house. The taste was good, but it was a bit dry. They serve it with a garnish of vanilla ice cream, and it actually would have been perfect with more of it. Service was good, particularly with the restaurant being pretty full. The ambiance is somewhat dark inside and the decor is mostly TVs, showing a very wide variety of programming--women's golf and reality TV in addition to the usual soccer/Astros stuff. They have a good variety of alcohol offerings, which we did not try but heard good things about. Overall, we had a good time and will be back. read more

All that was shown as my review is from someone else. First of all El Chaparro does not do hamburgers nor menus on the wall. Now to a review of some of the best Mexican food in north Houston/Spring and now in Tomball and the edge of the Woodlands. All three are equally great in service and food. The bar at each make strong and delicious mixed drinks especially the Maggies. Large on the rocks,no sweet and sour just lime,Grand Marnie,and whatever tequila I'm in the mood for, I prefer silver in a Maggie. This quart of iced pleasure last me thru at least 2 Michaladas and an order varying from three quail, carne asada, great guacamole, chips that are kept in front of me till the last inning of the Astros from April to Oct. My father taught me as soon as spit my first taste of Gerbers back at him,that a plate of two enchiladas one tamale beans and rice was a must once a week. Even in Beaumont or Houston 60 years ago Monterey House was great. Granted it was also the only place that knew how to spell tamale east of San Antonio. Back to El Chaparro, having been weaned on enchiladas and abandoned at 13 to Texas Military Institute in San Antonio I know my Tex-Mex. This trio of restarantes would have pleased the "old man" as much as it does me. I live behind Walmart on 45@Louetta. Actually I am in a subdivision with a row of trees blocking the dumpster that was once home. My long winded point is I'm sure I pass at least 50 Latino eataries and only outnumbered by the100 Asian chop chop. One last comment, the family behind El Chaparro, is so nice I may be a little biased. The food,booze,and service keeps the original full and now two more that opened just before and after the plague fell on us. My fathers rx would have been cheese enchiladas until one test negative. First time coming to El Chaparro. I must say wow! This place is big, clean, and family friendly! They have TV's all around the restaurant playing sport games! I got the Chipotle fajitas mix! These were super good! Side of rice and pico and gauc was good to go with the fajitas. Only down side was the plate was full of onions barely any fajitas in the plate.
