Tacos: 4.5, nachos: 2.5 Really good street tacos with flavorful meats -- I especially liked the carne asada ones. The salsas were a bit on the watery side though. I felt the nachos left something to be desired. They were topped with that artificial tasting cheese sauce rather than melted cheese or queso, and while the picture showed jalapeños, they weren't actually served with any. I usually really enjoy this place and have been multiple times, but I had a ridiculous interaction today. I paid 20 dollars for tacos, and there's a salsa bar right next to the counter. I grabbed 2 small cups for red salsa and asked for 2 caps and she insisted that I pay an extra .50 cents just for the caps? She wasn't nice about it so I said no and I didn't need the salsa then (despite paying $20 for food) so she insisted on giving them to me but adding the extra .50 cents to my tip? So she grabbed my check and herself wrote an extra .50 cents in for a tip. It was so petty and unprofessional especially when I paid so much for food. Chips are also extra. I've just never seen a salsa and chip bar that's up front for people to use but they're charged if they're taking a cap to go? I enjoy the food but was really put off and to me respectful and reasonable service is key. read more

I'm giving this five stars based on the fact that this is a Mexican drive-through. Compared to other Mexican drive-throughs, it is the clear winner, no contest. Everything is fresh and quality and real and the tortillas and sopes are homemade as well as the tamales, prob most things. The supreme burritos will be a two meal plate for many people. The Jamaica was so so good! The churros had some sort of heaven apple pie filling and you could tell they had been made minutes before. This place is a little gem. Nice new family-run Mex joint way up on the South Hill. Generous portions, and great flavors on my taco platter (adobada/chorizo/pastor). My daughter ordered two tamales a la carte, and she received an extra one, because the Mamasita thought the pork one was on the small side. That's a nice touch in my book. A bonus for any Mex joint is a complimentary salsa bar, and theirs was fresh and robust. I especially like the chile d'arbol salsa. Smokey, with a darned nice kick to it. As mentioned by others, chips are not complimentary ($.99), but the food was out pretty quick, and we didn't even notice. The place was very, very clean, and nice & bright with big windows front/back. No language barrier, with a friendly second-gen daughter as hostess, and Mama on the plancha. El Charrito went from my favorite spots to not so much anymore. The last three times I've been there I have not received the food I actually ordered. Today I was mischarged for food I ordered. When I got to the window the person gave me the receipt and I paid for the food, then the person told me he missed charged me. I had now worries then they told me that they charged me for a combo when I only asked for tacos. He then asked me to pay more after already running my card which i thought was weird. He messed up then made me pay more??? After receiving my meal I had to check the bag and didn't receive the rice and beans that I was charged extra for that I didn't even order. I proceeded to go into the building and get the rice and beans that i didn't order but was charged. Unfortunately the service I've received lately is lacking. The food is good but I don't think I will be going back since this is the 3rd time in a row that my order had been messed up. read more

This is hands down the best tacos in spokane. I mean if you want to get close to "authentic" this is the place for you. I've been to other taco places like Tortilla Union and Borrachos, but they do not even compare. The location may not be what everybody wants as it's on the South Hill area of spokane but let's be honest, nothing in Spokane is hard to get to. The tacos are amazing, seasoned correctly,the salsas are a range of spice from mild to hot but this is what you expect from proper Mexican cuisine. You can choose. We love El Charrito! Some of the highlights here are the genuinely friendly service, the authentic food, and especially their salsas. The salsas actually have flavor and they even have super spicy salsa here, which is a huge plus. This is not whitewashed Mexican food, it's the real deal and we really appreciate that a place like this exists in Spokane. I wanted to love this place because the menu is much better than most fast Mexican places. And we are a Mexican food loving family. But we both left kind of disappointed. There are good things, the horchata is excellent. The sauce on my relleno was so fresh tasting, like good tomatoes. Like summer. But the whole plate lacked flavor. No heat, not a speck. In the sauce or the Chile itself. The beans are nutty and decent but after a few bites they also become bland. Lacking seasoning. The rice is too seasoned I think with a seasoning packet I didn't like it at all. Also the lack of a kids menu was surprising my son didn't need such a giant burrito. I may come here in the summer just for drinks but can't see it becoming a regular stop. I may try their tacos at some point. read more
