I have dined at the El Charro in Dale City and the El Gran Charro in Stafford, Va for over two decades and have always left with a great dining experience and satisfied. So knowing the quality of the food and the expectation I found myself in the King George area and knew there was a El charro somewhere and decided to grab lunch and see if it was up to standards as the other locations. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall just off of Route 3 in King George and if you blink you can easily miss it. The restaurant was clean and well lit. They weren't to busy and I was seated fairly quickly and given a menu. A few minutes later the waitress came over with the chips, salsa, and ranch style dip they give to the customers and asked if I would like something to drink and if I was ready to order. I ordered a Tall Blue Moon, Cheese Dip, and Enchiladas Supremas. The Enchiladas Supremas consists of 4 Enchiladas of one Chicken, Beef, bean, and cheese topped with lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. It arrived and looked fantastic and was what I was expecting as I dug in to them and boy did that change quick with each bite. The meal not up to the standards I have come to expect and know of El Charro and was disappointed. The enchiladas were bland and lacked any flavor, it was like someone forgot to season the food. Another problem was with the beer. I am not sure how a nice frosted mug of ice cold beer could be terrible but this location managed to make it terrible. I am not sure if the lines need to be cleaned or the beer was bad but if you have ever drank a Blue Moon you know there is some orange citrus flavor to it, this brew tasted as though it was washed in chemicals and then served. The location needs to look in to why the beer tastes weird or get fresh beer. The only thing consistent with this meal as the other locations was the cheese dip, that was on par and great with the chips. I hate to say I would never dine back at this location again it I would be willing to try it again but with maybe other food choice. read more

Great place for fill the Taco Tuesday void in my life. Best tacos I've been able to find in the area, and they even throw in a little bit of heat for those looking for it. The margaritas leave a little to be desired, and could probably provide a little less sugar with the same punch. Either way, I will definitely be back to get my food fix when needed. read more

this is the third time someone has messed up my order when coming here. I ordered a burrito and it came practically unwrapped and soggy, which made it extremely difficult to eat without creating a bigger mess. And the tortilla being soggy from all the juice made me lose my appetite. read more

El Charro is a surprisingly efficient Mexican restaurant in a small community. Their dishes have a flavor of Aztec and their specials usually reflect that. Don't go for the normal tacos burritos and enchiladas. Experiment a little with their daily specials and you'll be pleasantly surprised. read more

Chicken Taquitos - Great Appetizers seems it was fried A BIT to long for my liking but has pretty good flavor and definitely has enough chicken inside. Would be great to share with another person. The plate came with 4 Taquitos and a small salad mix in the middle. Chimichangas - Amazing Flavor everything on the plate 100% tasted fresh. The plate had the small salad, queso/cheese on top of the Chimichangas, and beans. Service - the Chicken Taquitos Appetizer came very fast maybe wiithin 3-7 minutes after ordering. And restaurant was about half way full of diners. Waiter was very nice and checkup on us maybe around every 5-10 minutes. Very nice meal overall. Temperature was very comfortable. Didn't get full 5 because table was a bit sticky and utensils still had to water stains on it but ya know what they say about dirty utensils it means the restaurant has great flavor and it definitely did. read more

Shrimp chimichangas all the way! Service is great, food is great, you can't really go wrong here. The chicken taquitos are super yummy. I like to smother it in the white cheese dip sauce. Last time I ordered the beer battered shrimp special. I was not impressed with the tacos not was just three tiny soft shell tortillas with some pico de gallo looking stuff on top and then each taco had two shrimp on it with some sauce on top. The shrimp were SUPER beer tasting. You have to really like beer in order to like these shrimp. My best bet is to stick with the shrimp chimichangas in the flour tortilla. read more

Girlfriend and I had to take a detour cause of an accident on I-95 and our route took us by here. We were looking for something different than highway fast food and boy did this hit the spot. The free chips came with a solid salsa that we both enjoyed (she's not much for spicy food) and a cool queso (imagine cooler ranch flavoring but queso). We both got lunch specials that were cheap and had just the right amount of food to make us full but not into food comas for the rest of our drive. Service was fast, attentive, and friendly. We have always liked ElCharro and I really hope tonight is just an off night! Food was good but service was lacking to say the least! Our waitress didnt come until we had been wondering where our waitress was and when she finally did show up instead of asking what we would like to drink she immediately asked if we were ready to order as if she was in a rush! We luckily had plenty of time to look at menu while we were waiting for someone to show up to our table! Someone else brought our food out which is not unusual but then we were out of chips, dip, salsa and drinks, we did not see her again to get anything to drink until we were done with our food! Ate most of the meal with no drink! Finally got drinks but then our waitress was unseen when we needed our check, but another waitress got it for us! Mexican restaurant in King George !?? WHAT!! This town is so country I was in shock when I saw this restaurant on my way to the grocery store. It's probably the only restaurant in a couple of miles (20 to be exact). It's your typical Mexican restaurant. Margaritas, beers and Mexican dishes. They also have a bar on the far right corner. I ordered a tostada salad because I had just left the gym haha and it was ok, but I wasn't disappointed since I ordered something so not Mexican really... next time I'll try their more popular dishes like tacos and enchiladas. This is one of our regular "go to" restaurants when we are in the area. The service is always fast and friendly; the food is above average and you get ample portions for the price. My husband particularly likes the white salsa. Their chips are okay, if not my favorite, but that is, as always, a matter of taste. My favorite dish is the Burrito Charro, which is loaded with grilled shrimp and chicken. It comes with a delicious white cheese sauce and I have never been able to eat more than half, and while I attribute that to my habit of filling up on chips and salsa beforehand, it does not negate the fact it is huge. I don't think there is a combination of items you can think of they don't include in their combination lunch/dinner menus and there is a decent vegetarian menu, as well. As for desserts, I am not a fan of their fried ice cream although the sopapillas are pretty good. read more

Food was ok, nothing memorable, but also not bad. I was very disappointed and surprised when I walked in and the tall gentlemen with the beard standing at the host stand was not wearing a mask. I should have followed my gut and turned around and left. I thought maybe it was just a momentary slip, like we all do. Sadly as after we were seated this same gentlemen came over to welcome us and take our drink order. I asked if he could wear a mask, and his response was "I don't wear masks, would you like to me to get someone who does?" I said yes, please, which he did. In hindsight I should have so no thank you and left. I know masks can be a divisive issue, and I respect people not wanting to wear them, except when it affects my safety. It is also the law in VA, which as a business it is their responsibility to comply with. Do they have the same lack of compliance attitude with food safety regulations. Place has great service. Fast replacing chips and salsa. Don't try to overcharge you for chip refills. Food is priced good. We usually carry out and are happy. But good is better inside restaurant (as expected)! They have good margaritas and cheap pitchers of beer. The kids love the place! Food was okay but I came in for takeout hoping to reduce my risk for vivid exposure as I am in an at risk group. Only two of the three staff at the counter had on masks. I asked that third person to please put on a mask but he refused. Finally one of the other servers told him to leave the area. We eat here once or twice a month, It's one of the few restaurants in King George that is halfway decent. Some of the staff are great, some look like they'd rather be anywhere than at work. Case in point tonight, our designated server, was uninterested in us and preferred to sit and roll knife and fork bundles than wait our table, or offer us refills or even check if our food was Ok.
