It's pretty hard to mess up Mexican food, but they did. First off the service was bad. I came in and was not waited on for a good 15 minutes even though there was only one other person in the restaurant. Next the waitress was rude and snappy. I was always a fan of the El Charro in Fredericksburg and now that I work near King George this one is very dangerous! Everyone I have encountered there has been courteous and friendly. We enjoy eating here. It's nice that they have "kid" choices on the kids menu since one of my kids pretty much gets nuggets or a hot dog no matter where we go. I was really disappointed. First of all I do not know what you use to clean with, but the restaurant smelt like someone has been working and sweating all day and hasn't taken a bath in a few days. As soon as I walked in it hit me in the face. The servers were nice but check after food was delivered to see if we needed anything else such as sauce, napkins etc.. The Salsa was like it had been watered down to a soup base. The food was very bland which was a disappointment for Mexican food. This is our family's favorite Mexican restaurant. They recently updated the inside of their restaurant - it looks light, refreshing, and authentic while maintaining an overall sweet atmosphere. The restaurant looked nice overall, minus the shredded booth seats that we had. Service was spotty at best. We had to ask for utensils after our food was delivered and even though the restaurant was relatively empty, everything was extremely slow and sometimes we had to ask multiple times for things like hot sauce or a refill. Came for lunch last Thursday around 12:30-1. It was pretty empty inside, maybe 2 other tables. Our waitress was really nice and did check on us, the 1 star is for the food...it was pretty pathetic. I had the burrito, taco, enchilada combo and asked for rice and beans as a side. I have never in my life had rice at a Mexican restaurant that had mixed vegetables in it?!?! I'm talking like a straight can of Veg-All.. the burrito was anything but that and the chicken filling was not appetizing at all nor was the red sauce they drown it all in. My lunch date had the shrimp chimi's..they were the smallest saddest things I've ever seen. When you think burrito or chimi you think of something that's a pretty decent size. These were small and barely filled. Almost taquito like...pretty pathetic. Shame too because when they first opened we ate here and the food was good. This second time will be the last. $40 down the drain...I guess I'll stick to Pancho Villa for Mexican food in the area.. read more

What happened here!? This used to be my go to Mexican place, no more! It almost seemed like they have new management or the manager wasn't there. Came in and got seated and given menus, I had to clean my menu of old food debris on every page. I told the waiter and he slightly shrugged and apologized. We then got the complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were very good, but the salsa was like a bowl of thick tomato soup and not very flavorful. We ordered drinks, Sangria and beer, the sangria was warm with no ice or fruit. My wife asked for a glass of water for the ice, I ended up going to the bar for a glass of ice because it took so long for the water to arrive. We had to just about tackle the waiter for an appetizer of guacamole and that was a bad idea. The guac was not chunky at all, like it was in a food processor to long, more like a spread. I ordered the carne assada burritos and my wife ordered the shrimp tacos. Mine was fine it came with rice but no refried beans. My wife ordered the shrimp tacos which she has had there often, this time though they came deconstructed. If she wanted a fajita she would have ordered that. Pretty good Mexican food, and we are thrilled to have them open a location in KG. The burrito charro and botana grande are favorites, along with the carnitas. The kids love the white sauce that comes with the chips. They also accommodate large parties which is a plus. read more

Total disappointment! The food did not seem fresh, seemed like it was full of preservatives or it had been in the freezer and microwaved. The cheese dip and the sour cream were both grainy, not creamy. Ordered four meals, got the equivalent of maybe 2 cups of chips and one small small side salsa. I love this place, the people are great and the food is awesome! Me and mine normally get the same thing to go and even though we don't go every day they always remember our order (okay we go a lot).
