This is my second time here, and I feel like I wrote a review on this one-of-a-kind place. But let me tell you what's so different and special in my book. First, the hospitality hits you as soon as you walk in the door--the greetings, the where would you like to sit? I thought that was so nice. Secondly, their shrimp cocktail is the best. I'm used to the shrimp cocktail with the 4 or 5 shrimp on the rim of a glass and the sauce inside the glass. But here, at El Charro, the shrimp cocktail is in a giant goblet. The sauce is filled to the top, and at least more than ten large shrimp are inside with tomatoes, avocados, and onions. It is the best I've ever had. I also ordered the chicken noodle soup. The theme here is that everything is huge. The soup comes out with the broth and chicken inside the bowl, and on the side are all the items that go inside: the carrots, corn, potatoes, beans, and avocado. This was one good hearty bowl of soup, tons of chicken, and potatoes. The broth was so good, hot and delicious. I enjoyed my meal and had to get a couple of takeout boxes for my shrimp cocktail and my soup. Like I said, the theme of food in this restaurant is huge! Decent Mexican spot if you ask me. The food is really reasonable and the service is great. Our waitress made sure the drinks stayed topped off and salsa on the table. I got a lunch special that came with a enchilada, chili relleno, and beans. I added a tamale which I didn't care too much for. Seemed to be a frozen store bought kind but still edible. The wife had a chicken dishe that smothered rice. She liked it too. Kids were happy! We'll definitely be going back. Family of 4 ate for $37.11 can't beat that! read more

Only gave on star because it wouldn't allow me to leave no stars. Tried to place a Togo order and the server kept hanging up on us. We tried for 20 min. Then we arrive at the restaurant and we speak to the owner. And the owner blows us off and answers the phone to take a Togo order with us standing there trying to place an order. We just walked out..... feel like it was because we were two women. Will not be back will not support a place that discriminates against women. read more

The service was crappy, I was disrespected and the manager and the workers kept disrespecting me.

In a town with a few different Hispanic restaurants I would assume they would try harder to be better than Taco Bell but alas I was wrong. Food here is always bland. The lack of spices and seasonings that are a hallmark of the cuisine is striking. No issues with the service, or the staff, or even the wait times. But when I go out for food the food is always the most important part of the experience which is why I do not go out to El Charro anymore. I learned my lesson. read more

I visited El Charro getting familiar with the area, and honestly I have to say they exceeded my expectations. From the moment you arrive the young lady at tge hostess stand was very nice and had a great personality. The waitress was nice, efficient and definitely made aure we were okay throughout our dinner. Even though there was a party of 9 and a party of 7 in front of us, we waited all of a minute, if that. The staff was very attentive to the need of the customers. If you needed a refill, they were there before you asked. Appetizers arrived under 10 min after ordering and the entrees arrived shortly after ordering. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I wish I would've gotten the names of the employees, but unfortunately I forgot to ask, but it doesn't take away from their SUPERB SERVICE!!! I will definitely be back soon. read more

Popped in here for a quick lunch on the north side of town. We usually go to LaParilla, but we thought we'd try something new since we were up that way. El Charro has been around since my high school days, and usually when I eat here, it's okay. We came in a little early - around 11AM. It took a while to see a server, but once he came over, he was quick to take our order and bring our drinks. Both my husband and I ordered the lunch chicken fajitas. Once our food came out, it was warm, but the tortillas were on fire. The best way for me to describe the food is that it just feels thrown together. The pico de gallo had too much lime or lemon. The guac doesn't have enough flavor, and the chicken was chewy and had lots of gross tendons (seriously gagging). I quit eating after the 2nd time I nearly had to spit my food out. The salsa and chips were delicious, and that was basically our lunch. I left most of my food on my plate. Once we were ready to leave, we couldn't track down our server for our check. I thought about going to the register to see if we could just tell her what we ordered, but there was already someone waiting for the cashier to return to her post. The prices are much more reasonable than La Parilla down the road, but it's worth it to us to pay more for better quality and service. read more
