Maybe not the place for authentic Mexican food. Or maybe I'm a little southern border spoiled. The shredded beef taco- The beef itself was ok, lacking asada spicing. Lettuce is lettuce and I guess a cheddar cheese rather than a good Cotija. Something like a "Great Value Taco Shell", soggy from the beef, rather than a fried tortilla. Chili Relleno was a little under-roasted, not sure it was Problano, but stuffed with a mild cheddar? rather than Oaxaca and a little egg batter next to it. I did like the enchilada and enchilada sauce, which I put on my taco and mixed with my relleno. Guacamole- No, it wasn't. Just a scoop of mashed avocado with lime. Missing onion, garlic, cilantro, peppers etc. I didn't detect any flavor in the beans, although the rice was ok. Our server was good, checked on regularly. Not trying to be mean at all, and if you like Mexican food on the 'mild' side rather than authentic, you may like it. read more

If this ain't the best damn Mexican establishment in the Chino Valley/Prescott metropolitan area! Tucked away within the town like some lint stuck in your pocket, everything ranging from service to the aesthetics of the restaurant were exceptional. We had a wonderful waiter that checked in on us frequently, although I noticed him hitting on my girlfriend often; I was fine with it at the time considering I thought he was going to slip us the employee discount. That wasn't the case. All in all, wonderful experience. Will be back soon, without my girlfriend of course. read more

The food was wonderful! Had a taco salad and it was perfect, the shell freshly made; the salsa was hot enough to cauterize wounds (well, almost); the chips ere fresh; and the guacamole was just made. The service was excellent. Our server was funny, personable, attentive, and responsive. What's more, the beer was truly ice-cold, probably about 34°, the way to have a beer in a hot day! Thirst-killing cold. There were two musicians there who sung in tune, did great harmonies, and played guitar exceptionally well. They did a superlative job with all the numbers they did. The ground beef taco was amazing!! We don't live in Az we were visiting family, the margaritas were fantastic, according to my daughter, the service was great, we sat in back and had a great view. Very clean. the shredded beef nachos, and oh wow the house salsa was on point!! They also serve steak, my son in law got a beautifully cooked EXACTLY to order steak, I love love love it when you actually get a steak cooked right!! A fun locals' hot spot. We stopped by on a busy Saturday night and they were able to set a table for 5 in less than 1/2 hour. The staff were all super friendly and took excellent care of our table even with the whole restaurant full! Food is very diversified tasty and a great value. It's off the beaten path but the reward for your efforts make it well worth the trip. read more

Very neatly appointed Mexican restaurant in a bucolic setting, with a large menu. We stopped in lunchtime to get a soda, and wound up with a Chicken burrito, 1/2 Guacamole salad , Pepsi and a Chambord margarita. The latter was one of the tastiest margaritas I've ever had. The 1/2 salad was huge, and more than enuf for one, as was the burrito. We would come here again - for Dinner! read more

Traveling with family from California visiting here in Arizona. The location was a little sketchy because it's more in the rural side. Looks like they were having a karaoke night outside and it looked like a bar from a far. But once you go inside it's just like any other sit down restaurant. I guess it's hit and miss with the reviews. We've been 3 times before a fair review. First off, a tablespoon of guacamole for 5 bucks, nobody has that great of guacamole for that price. Not the server's fault and she warned us that it was a lot of money for a very size portion, that's why she doesn't offer it. The food that we've had is just ok. Salsa is just ok but nothing stood out for us to go back. 2 stars for our servers who are trying. read more

Drinks can be good if the owner is making them and you're with a friend of his. Same goes for the food, it's not consistent enough to give a good review. Prices are "ok", overall worth a visit, you might be there on a day of good food and drinks. read more

Food was a little hard to capture pics of cause the lighting at the bar was so weird. We enjoyed the food and service. The food was just missing something though. It needed a bit more flavor and it really would have hit the spot. Our margaritas were fantastic. I got the peach one I think and it was AMAZING!! I definitely recommend you getting that margarita. Meh. I won't be back unless it's for happy hour. I've been wanting to try every time I come to Chino Valley. I wanted it to be so good. It's just okay. I had to kill my Borracha Wet Burrito with their salsa, then ask for something hotter, then ask for Tabasco - finally some flavor. Waitress was fantastic. Place is nice with nice views. read more

It was a 25 minute, 16 mile drive from Prescott to El Charro Norte in Chino Valley, AZ. We read a lot of good things...sigh. Maybe it's because I'm from California and the Mexican food is made to a higher standard...not sure. Maybe we should have stayed home on 9/11 and grilled burgers (something we will be doing tonight). The chicken taco meat was boiled, placed in a tortilla for the enchilada and sauce was poured on top. Minus the tortilla and sauce, this is what my wife makes for our dog when she has an upset stomach. The shredded beef taco tasted good at one end and it's taste was boiled out by the other end. Not sure how that happens? Chicken fajitas...ok, this is just stupid sounding, but you can tell it was chicken, but the only taste was the charred edges from the grill, no chicken, no seasonings...nothing. The peppers and onions had pretty much the same 80% boiled out taste, as well. The 12" cheese crisp was decent once you rolled it like a taco shell and put some salsa on it. By itself...well, it's just cheese and grilled tortilla. Beans and cheese were good, making breakfast burritos out of them this morning with the leftover tortillas. Guacamole was decent, pico de Gallo, too. Cocktails...sadly below average. Good thing there was a pitcher of water. No pictures from last night's dinner, we didn't want to further denigrate the place. As I've stated for other Mexican places here in Prescott...it's a huge step down from So Cal. MI TIERRA MEXICANA was very pedestrian as well, but we'll be trying Maya's next. I'll let you know when I find one that measures up to Rancho Grande in Norwalk, CA. Jim S. read more

When the guys get together to work late on Monday, El Charro Norte is our Go-To Mexican restaurant! Is it the 3 different salsa or the guacamole. Couldn't be a great service and clean environment? Worth leaving the main road! Loved the ambiance, the food and the service! The service was a little slow, I'm sure it was because they were busy. I really thought this place was a good spot. But it's not. I ordered a 3 taco dinner and only got 2. I ordered a Carne asada fry bread and only got mostly beans and lettuce with very little meat for $16.00. I paid extra for guacamole and salsa. The salsa was spoiled. The guacamole was brown. I went back in to complain about my order and the servers were to busy to stop and talk to me. Out of frustration I just left and trashed the food. read more

Since moving here we have been in search of good Mexican food, I think we have found it. Starting with the salsa & chips, just enough spice & warm chips I had a pomegranate Margerita. It was delicious. I had the beef fajitas, it came with rice, beans, sour cream & guacamole. More than enough food for 1 person. My husband had the shrimp in a crema sauce. He really liked it. The service is bad.. the food is bad.. the only thing they have going for them is location.. sunsets on the back patio are beautiful.. as long as you don't mind never having someone come take a drink order I finally talked my mom into never suggesting this place to me again... We seated ourselves and was told twice that someone would be over to take our order but nobody ever came. Tonight was the straw that made up my mind about you.
