We found this place out of an Arizona food magazine. My wife was craving Mexican food so we had to go while visiting Prescott AZ as it was a short drive from there. I would not recommend. Its only shining light was the very strong margarita, delicious churros for desert, and friendly staff. The atmosphere was ok for a Mexican restaurant, but the food!!! Didn't care for the salsa. It had a tomato sauce type flavor to it with not much else for the flavor palette. I thought this might just be a regional thing because we are from Texas, but no, we went to a different restaurant later in the week and it was phenomenal (leading me to feel the need to write this review)! The food on both dinner plates was a soupy mess. My wife had enchiladas and I had the chile rellenos. Both looked about the same and soggy. Taste was ok, but nothing to write home about. Price was in line with a non-touristy Mexican restaurant. As usual I forgot the pics! Save yourself the time and try somewhere else. read more

Worst food I have ever had! Tried it at least 5 times due to the fact of acqaitces wanting to meet me there. Terrible food at all times! Waitresses were good. Idiot owner! The last time I went to the bar. I ordered a small appetizer and the bar tender decided to get me something else! I couldn't believe it! I will not go there again ever! Service is excellent- chips, just enough salt and salsa is spicy and delicious. I always order the shrimp Diablo which is super duper spicy and the Ranchero beans are also heated! The margaritas- of which there is an ample selection- are tart and not too sweet. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in AZ. This was our first visit to El Charro Norte. We were so excited to try a new place since Mexican Food is our favorite! The atmosphere was so nice, maybe even the nicest around. However, the chips & salsa were horrible. Chips were stale, store bought would have been better, and the salsa is just plain tomatoes blended up with a few spices. So disappointed. We purchased their nachos to split, (dumb move after tasting the chips lol) paid $5 or $6 more to add carne asada. There was nothing special about the nachos, in fact we only got 1/4 of the asada and it tasted like stew meat. The guacamole was the best part. This place was packed. Service was mediocre. Margarita was delicious. We will never return. It was a giant waste of $30 read more

They screwed up both our orders. They replaced my chili relleno and it was cold in the middle. The waitresses didn't seem to care. They actually joked about it. I paid my check and finished my beer when a girl showed up with a #2 and a #6 order. That's what we originally ordered, so someone explain this to me. We were heading back home to PHX, from a camping/hiking trip, and stopped to get something to eat. We LOVED the place. It was 5 min detour from the main road. We had our two kids with us and they loved it too. We had the loaded fries, as appetizer, the fajitas, tamal, hard shell taco and carnitas plate. Great food, great service, prices were good. My family went to ElCharro last Saturday. First, let me say that I have read the reviews of bad service. We weren't there 4 minutes when a waitress took our drink orders. Shortly thereafter frosty wonderful margaritas were on the table. Then we ordered and all of us thought our entrees were delicious. I just do not get the complaining! We went here last nite (May19) for dinner. There were six of us and we had two tables. The food was good and so was the service. However when they gave us our separate checks they only honored one of the 5 dollar off coupons. They said it was one coupon per table. The coupon says one coupon per ticket. It's not about the money,it is about the principle. The owner was out and we were told to call him tomorrow. I did this and he was out again. He did call later and I explained the food and service was good but the coupon should be honored. He said coupons were to lure in new customers. This is bad business to say that, Coupons are to lure business, new or old.Sadly he lost 6 frequent customers over five dollars. read more

Massive let down. Growing up in Prescott, going to El Charro was such a treat and the salsa...OMG the best!! Not living in AZ anymore and back visiting, we had heard a new one from the same owners opened in Chino Valley since the one in Prescott closed (R.I.P). El Charro Norte is it's less loved step-child with the most bland Mexican food, stale chips and some of the worst salsa. What happened?! The service was a bit rough with the gal tossing our HOT HOT plates onto the table and salsa going everywhere. If you're looking for good Mexican food, explore other options. There are MANY in Prescott and Prescott Valley that are outstanding! You don't get what you pay for here as well as the location is quite far from the highway in the middle of nowhere. read more

Went there today with my wife because of a coupon that came out in the local coupon ads. Upon ordering, we presented the $5 off with $25 or more purchase. The coupon also mentioned a free 'fried Ice cream'. We were told that the 'Fried ice cream' was for Mothers Day but would be honored. The meal and desert were great but we neither received the $5 off and were charged for the 'fried ice cream'. After delivering the tab, the waitress went on break. To not cause a scene, we paid the full amount because it was worth it -- but watch out when given the tab. Because of 2 failures, it made a 5 star go down to 3. We'll visit again, but will insist on them honoring any coupons since it's the reason we went. read more

My family and I went to El Charro Norte on July 5. My sister-in-law and I both had Fry bread. She had green chili meat and I had ground beef. They were delicious. Was dragged in yesterday by family. normally this place is ok-ish. Over priced and lack luster but what ever. I get that asking anyone to wear a mask is difficult in a town full of Klan members trying to exercise their right to be assholes, but in Arizona with surging numbers, you would at least expect the staff to be taking any kind of precautions. Not one mask in the place. The staff was honestly kind of rude, and I honestly will never walk onto this place again. Ok, so I struggled with whether to leave a review or not, because I don't want 5his wonderful place to be so crowded we can't get a table or seat at the bar, but I also ant it to remain here, so here's my re Iwe. The wait staff is extremely friendly and on top of things without hovering. The bar makes very good drinks and the kitchen is awesome. The food is good and if you want something, more spice, add some veggies whatever, they are accommodating. Give them a try, order off the menu and if you want something tweaked, just ask. There is no reason why there should be lower reviews because the food wasn't spicy enough for you. Ask for what you want and they will try to make it for you. Our experience was wonderful here, and I hope I can find it horseback for a place to ride out to! read more

We called hours ahead to make a reservation. They lost our reservation. Just an idea don't take reservations if you are not going to follow through with them. The service also needs improvement. Stopped in to have lunch on Wednesday. Arrived and stood at the hostess desk for 10 minutes before I asked if we could seat ourselves. The rude waitress stated to wait. In the meantime other guest came in and seated themselves. After finally getting seated, we sat there for another ten minutes before the waitress came and took our drink order. We placed our order and it took one hour to get our food. One hour is no exaggeration. Come to find out the restaurant only had one waitress working and every table was full. How the hell do you run a business this way. We won't be back. I would encourage you to find another eating establishment to spend your money at. This service was terrible and unacceptable. Consumers have a choice where they spend their money. This is one place I would not ever visit again. The owner should be ashamed of himself. read more

Love this place! Been here many many times and the food is always consistent and good! Drinks are tasty and they will go out of their way to make special drink requests....and they taste good! My only request would be to have more than the usual day to day specials. There is great ingredients there and with very little additional supplies they could really push their menu with authentic less known Mexican dishes. I dream of owning a place like this one day! Waited 55 min for food party of 4. When the food came I stuck my finger in the rice, beans. taco and chili relleno all cold everyone else at the table said their food was cold too. When one person tried to cut her enchilada water ran out. (a lot of water). when we complained to the waiter the waiter brought the manager over. I had him put his finger in all the food to feel the temperature. The manager got mad at us for complaining and said "we are done here leave and don't come back. Could not agree more with the last reviewer. The food was mediocre at best, even by Mexican food standards. But was was appalling was the complete lack of social distancing (all tables were available), no effort by staff to protect themselves or others by wearing masks, and our party of five seemed to be the only ones who entered and left wearing masks. The COVID-19 numbers in Yavapai County will certainly continue to rise due to such callous disregard for patron safety during the current pandemic. Such behavior will not doubt lead to the further closing of eating establishments. I feel sorry for the workers who risk both their health and livelihood. read more

Really alarming to walk in during a pandemic and no one was following the covid guidelines. The waiters had masks half on with their nose and mouths out in the open.. so basically not wearing a mask correctly. Some didn't even have a mask. Cheese enchiladas are good! The refried beans were yummy. Chips and salsa delicious! My husband liked the hot, I enjoyed the mild. The taco dinner with shredded beef was not good. Dry. The cheese crisp was awful, like they cooked it in the microwave instead of on the grill . The traditional margarita was delightful. Actually the best in Chino Valley, not the"lime margaritas" that is typical. Service was decent, the guy was friendly enough. Try there place, I'm sure you would enjoy it!
