Whoa guys. Unexpectedly good food. We were driving from Colorado Bend State Park (in the middle of nowhere NW of Austin) to my aunt's house in Wimberley (which is also the middle of nowhere, but SW of Austin), so about the best we were hoping for was McDonald's. However, having already road tripped quite a bit this week, we were feeling tired of the double cheeseburgers. So we researched a little and were feeling pretty hopeless until I read the reviews for this place. THEY'RE NOT LYING, THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS. Cheap, nearly all entrees less than $10, and out of this world corn tortillas. Kiddos shared the five mini tacos (real Mexican style with onion and cilantro), husband had beef fajitas and I had... shoot I forgot the name, it was the second thing on the menu. But everything was amazing. I can't fathom a reason to be in Johnson City again, but if I am, you better believe I'm going to eat here again. read more

This place is not fancy by any means. We arrived well after the supper rush, and the place was nearly empty, but we were welcomed and seated quickly. Chips and salsa were brought out, and both were excellent. Our orders were taken and food served in short order. Everything was piping hot, well seasoned and very enjoyable. Salsa had a weird taste with large chunks of onion, scant amount of chicken in my chicken enchiladas and they were Lukewarm, and short straws that didn't come to the top of my glass. Very much the worst Mexican food I have ever had. We got carry out. I am not sure how they made a chicken quesadilla taste bad when all it was was chicken and cheese, but they did. A very good Mexican restaurant (not Tex-Mex). The atmosphere is very casual, service was good but not spectacular, and the food was quick to arrive and tasty. I loved the salsa and chips, but my preference is for finely purred salsa. If you prefer chunky salsa, this is not it. Everything was well prepared. I had the Mexican plate with a taco, burrito, and enchilada. Everything on the plate was reasonably sized and it was a good amount of food for dinner. Rice and beans were just okay, but the main dish was very good. I don't know if I'd drive all the way to Johnson City for just a meal here, but if I'm in the neighborhood I will definitely stop in again. read more

A pleasant surprise in a small rural texas town. The chips and salsa was delicious and fresh tasting. The taco had that home made taste that we hope for. The tortillas seemed just made and the pork was seasoned well and plentiful. A goo place to stop. read more

Pleasantly surprised by this no frills Mexican place. Generous portions for good prices. The queso was watery, but they give you a nice amount of guacamole and the salsa is fresh. We got the beef fajitas, which seemed to use sirloin instead of skirt steak, but was very flavorful. The Gordita was filling and the sauces that come with it were yummy. read more

I like this little restaurant. This is Jalisco style food. Be prepared that it is spiced differently than most Mexican food in urban areas. This is also a small business, not a big urban conglomerate. They sell soda by the can. My favorite food here is the breakfast taco, which they will make for me any time of the day!! They don't make all breakfast items all day, but they do make tacos. They are delicious. read more

Great food great service great prices. Mom and Pop shop in Johnson city. Pretty old school but that gives it a certain charm. They do take out. Even if you eat at a table you pay at the counter. We had the fajita mixta with shrimp chicken and beef. Plenty for 2. She had the carnitas a la mexicana, spicy pork. Hot sauce and chips excellent. Service super fast and the food came out in under 10 minutes sizzling. It was that fast for every table we could see. read more

Nothing beats a good Mexican breakfast! This place did not disappoint! The tortillas were fresh and homemade. The service was fast and friendly. The clean restrooms go a long way for me! We ordered three different kinds of tacos, chorizo & egg, sausage & egg and Bacon & egg! #yummy The salsa Verde was delicious I think I could drink it if my mouth would let me! We left with a to go bag of tacos and a huge cup of Horchata! We will definitely be back next time we are in town. read more

The best and most economical way to go is tacos. They offer nine varieties not to mention breakfast tacos. The mini taquitos are great. I have not had any of the dinner plates because I go for tacos but they have more than fifty options. The the best way to end the meal is with a great cup of coffee and an order of sopapillas. They put sugar on them and serve them with honey. I prefer to forego the sugar. The accommodations are plain. There is plenty of seating for families. Very casual, I have always had great service! Staff are with you as soon as you sit down bringing chips and salsa. The drinks come quickly. Food is usually at the table within eight minutes. If it's busy it may take a little longer. Your ticket is at the counter so when you are ready to leave just go up and pay. read more

We traveled in the area and couldn't find much on Monday morning. Glad this restaurant opens for Monday breakfast. (Apparently many places close on Monday and Tuesday) We had breakfast burrito, breakfast tacos, and pancake/meat/egg plate. Everything is seasoned well. Amazing! We stayed the weekend at the zoo and came here both nights. The staff is very prompt, friendly and attentive. The food was fast and had so much flavor. Isabel Alvarez and Jose were awful. "Authentic Mexican Cuisine" what a joke. Taco Bell is more authentic. I have NEVER written a review but the food and service was so terrible I had to. When I asked for the owners name they lied to me and when I asked for their names Jose lied to me. The ranchera sauce is onions and cheese. That is not sauce!!!
