It's an ok restaurant with plenty seating. There was a weird smell (probably from the kitchen) all around and felt quite stuffy indoors. Food was alright. However, no decent vegetarian options on the menu which is surprising for a Mexican restaurant.

Had the chili relleno. Excellent sauce. Great cheese. The refried beans were vegetarian and really excellent as was the rice. Chips and salsa were perfect as well. This was a great meal and a very nice price.

If you can get Mama J to come here, it's good to go. I bring my Mom here now regularly when I come to visit, and she likes it. For small town Mexican food, this is solid. The service is also very friendly here, which is a plus. You can tell that they work hard even with a limited staff and manage to bring out hot food quickly. Admittedly, I have only ever had their enchiladas. They are delicious. Not too saucy or cheesy and with a good amount of filling. The beans and rice are also good and complement the entrees nicely. El Charro definitely gives you good portions at a great price. I recommend this place if you are ever in Johnson City and are craving some good no-frills Mexican food.

Family owned restaurant with great prices and authentic dishes. The barbacoa was super legit. If I lived in this town I would come here regularly. The family that owns or operates this place is super friendly. This is a business that I would be happy to support even if prices started to go up.

Being in a small town, I was nervous trying this Mexican restaurant but I was pleasantly surprised. Breakfast was simple and delicious. I enjoyed the ranchera sauce on my eggs and the pork chop was perfectly seared/cooked. Service was great and waitstaff were all attentive. Nice place if you are in the area.

Quaint little small town Mexican restaurant in an older building. The chips are fresh and hot and sometimes tastes like they're fresh out of the fryer.... They're not the store-bought chips did you get it most Mexican places. The fajitas come sizzling as they should and the Margaritas taste a little bit syrupy. I've had better margaritas. Service is quick and you pay at the counter.

The food was amazing, the quality of it, the environment was just perfect. Don't even get me started on the service, the manager, Cristian Alvarez, greeting himself and being generous and kind. 100/10 recommend to everyone.

Had the shrimp fajitas - the food is good and serving sizes are big. Service was efficient.

The specialty tacos on the menu are the best tacos I've had in central texas, hands down. They are authentic unbeatable tacos.

I cannot tell you how giddy I was when I noticed a Los Tios was here. I told the wife it was non-negotiable, and we would be eating here for lunch. For those who do not know, Los Tios is a restaurant that has a long standing existence in Houston dating back to the early 1970s. Even though I reside in the San Antonio area, I grew up in the Houston area, and have a very fond memories of Los Tios. As a tot, I shared many a good meal with my parents and grandparents. So yeah, stumbling across this was huge in my book! We arrived and were greeted promptly. They had the typical Mexican restaurant decor and big open floor plan. While walking to our table, I was digging the Stevie Ray Vaughan music playing throughout the restaurant. We put our name on a list, and after a brief 5-10 minute wait we were seated. We were greeted promptly by two nice waitresses. One waitress was in training and learning the ropes. They took our drink order and we were left to peruse the menu. Chips and salsa came while we waited for our drinks. Chips and salsa always tells the story if a Mexican restaurant will have good food. Knowing the quality of Los Tios, I was not worried. As expected, the chips and salsa were just as delicious as I remembered having them as a tot! We picked at chips and browsed the menu. On a side note.. When in Rome... You must get a puffy queso. This is one of their signature dishes you get here. It is an actual queso puff and not a cheap imitation taco shell flipped over with queso on top. This is the real deal. I ordered the lunch special of one puffy queso and one cheese enchilada. The wife ordered the chicken fajita tacos, but did not get a puffy queso. Her loss.... After a nice visit with the wife, and in good time, our food arrived. Very hot plate, so I went to knock out the puffy queso first. It was absolutely delicious. Crunchy, cheesy, and really good. After my plate cooled down a scarfed down the rest. All of it was very delicious. Not one spec of food left on my plate. The wife enjoyed her tacos. We paid our bill and made our way out the door. On the way out they have a big bowl of Andes mints, so I grabbed some before heading to the car. The entire experience was nostalgic and delicious. Everything was excellent just as I remembered it. If you are in Fredericksburg, I highly recommend you stop in and get you some good Tex-Mex. You will not be disappointed. According to local news, Los Tios is/was supposed to come to San Antonio. It cannot get here soon enough. Hey Los Tios, what is the ETA on that? Can you provide me with a date? Enjoy!

Let me first say I wish this establishment well, and hope they have success in their endeavors…read more I was in centex to visit daughter, and suggested a bbq tour of the small towns west of Aus. We arrived at P&C mid afternoon on a Monday. We were touring this and other towns, so only ordered the pulled pork sandwich, side of mac n cheese and side of mashed potatoes w gravy between the two of us. And some extra bbq sauce on the side. The pulled pork sandw comes premade with what looks to be homemade pickles, smoked pulled pork, coleslaw, & bbq sauce. The presentation is fairly impressive. Unfortunately, the taste did not measure up. We had bites of the sandwich as a whole, and also tasted the individual ingred by themself to get a feel for what contributed to the overall. The pulled pork was hit/miss. Some of it was generously smoked & that smokiness came through. Other bites of it the smoked flavor was not prominent. Mac n Cheese - solid. By far the best thing we tried. Super cheesy, flavorful. Nice work! Coleslaw - substandard. I'd say the C range. Pickles on the sandwich - they were thicker and appeared homemade. They didn't seem like they had been left to sit long enough on the shelf for the pickling to soak in. In appearance they were still very close to cucumbers instead of pickled cucumbers. Flavor wise they didn't taste like cukes, but nor did they add a dill-ish or sweet pickle flavor of substance. (Can see the pickles in attached pic, can see the color and texture doesn't look significantly pickled.) Sauce - extremely little flavor. The consistency was not watery, but you had to close your eyes and concentrate to taste what little flavor there was - as though it was watered down immensely. Sauce gets a D. Mashed potatoes & gravy. They served the gravy on the side. The potatoes themselves were good - a little buttery and therefore enjoyable. The consistency of the gravy was mealy - was unexpected, and odd. Lacked the common flavor of a hearty gravy begun with a roux of flour and meat drippings. (Zoom in on attached photo, you can see the mealy and almost-grainy texture of the gravy.) Overall we weren't impressed. The mac n cheese being the best thing is not what you expect at a bbq place. Like I said, we wish the establishment well. But we wouldn't come back when in Johnson City. Final note, the hostess/server was genuinely warm and friendly. She was wearing multiple hats, running around, but was pleasant and engaging.
