Went on 2/11 with by boyfriend to have an early valentine's date, we had reservations for 6:00pm,…read morewe got there and were sited. Water, bread and butter came out. The bread was dry as if it was old. I ordered a French Onion soup and my better half order a Cesar salad with garlic ranch (too much garlic) We ordered the special, 8 oz fillet with scallops and 8oz fillet, mashed potatoes and stuffed tomatoes with Gorgonzola cheese. The fillets had a wired consistency and no flavor. My went back because I didn't care for it and the scallops were stringy as if it was crab meat and chewy. Basically the date meal was not top notch. I will not be eating here again. Told the manager on the way out and just offered an apology. If it was me I would have provided a make it right suggestion to have us retry the restaurant. Thank you, Maria

However.... on my third/recent visit with my wife for dinner, the service was great. However, the food was mediocre at best (I am being kind.) For the $360+ cost of dinner, everything should be FANTASTIC. It wasn't. My wife's salmon was undercooked. When mentioned, they took the plate and cooked it some more vs getting her a fresh piece of fish and COOKING it correctly. Why the waiter picked to re-serve the dish was very disappointing and very subpar for the high price of dining here. The ambiance is underwhelming with dusty floor to ceiling drapes from the 1970's, it's very dark and walls/decor which aligns with scenes from the movie the Shawshank Redemption. Undoubtedly, this locale needs a remodel. I will not be returning to this location. The cost is too high for the service (you might get.)

The Social Hour looked really good so finally made my way back for date night on a Friday and did not disappoint. We tried several things on the menu and loved them all. The house Cab was very nice. Service was excellent, definitely ask for Nicholas. I had a Carajillo for a after dinner drink from the bar cart that goes around. Fantastic. Restaurant is still as beautiful as ever. And you can make reservations in the bar area, we will remember that for next time. Posted the menu for description of everything.

On the advice of a good friend the suggestion was to try J-Prime Steakhouse's"Social Hour." I have…read moreheard about many times but I never found the perfect occasion to try it. But at my age anytime you are over ground is the best occasion. I have heard it is real fancy. And it is. Do not come in Crocs and sweatpants. This is not that restaurant. It is that restaurant where you should make reservations. It is also a place that emphasizes presentation and service. We came right when it opened and we informed the hostess of our reservations. We were seated in the bar area. Once inside I was struck by its ambience. It is sleek, dark and dare say "sexy." Our server, who was extremely attentive came to our table and took our drink orders. My partner ordered an Old Fashioned and me, a Lagunitas IPA. Whilst waiting for our drinks I looked over the room. One thing I noticed was a barrier that separated the bar area and the dining room. The Social Hour is meant, to socialize. I saw couples leaning into each other. Another group were drinking martinis with a seafood tower, almost touching the ceiling. Conversations were had. Romantic glances were exchanged. It isn't a casual place like Bubba's 33 nor Texas Roadhouse. It feels like a place best suited for a date night or an anniversary. I'm wondering how the dining room area is? The Social Hour does offer some drink and small bites specials. We ordered the kabob with pineapple, brussel sprouts, and sliders. They were all pretty great. It reminded me of the same experience as in partaking in tapas. I would remiss if I didn't relay our service here, it was excellent. Our server, Holiday(I hope I spelled it right.) treated us like we were the only patrons there. I've gone to upscale restaurants where staff looks at you up and down. Or they try to size you up. This is not that place. Which was so refreshing. If this place went above and beyond my expectations why didn't I give it four stars? In my opinion I think that a place that creates an upscale experience needs to have a few beers on tap. Even places like Wing Daddy's or Chili's offers a few beers on tap. Secondly, the bar area seating feels a bit tight. I wonder when the dinner crowd arrives would you be in the lap, of someone else's conversation? I still highly recommend this place. The Social Hour area is perfect for a date or an anniversary. The service and food were both excellent. And I've never been to a place where you are given warm hand towels. It reminded me of that scene with Adam Sandler in "The Wedding Singer" minus Billy Idol.

For starters, we had the French Onion Soup and the Wedge Salad. The soup was good, it was on the sweeter side though which wasn't my favorite. The salad was fresh, crunchy, and light. Definitely a highlight! For the main course, we had the 8oz Filet, 16oz Ribeye, and the Char-Grilled Jumbo Shrimp. This is what made this steakhouse standout to me. Everything was season and cooked to perfection. The side of the Brandy Mushroom Sauce was a great addition to the steak. The Filet was soft, juicy, and just perfect in every bite. The Ribeye was full of flavor and overall was a very good steak. The shrimp was some of the best shrimp I've had. The seasoning was impeccable, it was juicy, and tasty. For sides, we had the Baked Potato and Broccoli. The potato was a 10/10 and you were able to add more or less of what you wanted with the do it yourself style. I loved it! The broccoli was cooked great it was just very saturated in a pool of olive oil. Finally, dessert was a huge highlight and I loved every single bite. We got the Triple Chocolate Double Fudge Brownie. It was like eating a molten lava cake as a brownie. It was soft, gooey, chocolatey, fudgey, and everything you would want from a brownie and so much more. If you have not tried this steakhouse and are in the area of San Antonio, you need to come here because it will not disappoint by any means!

The Open Table reservation allowed us an option to designate our visit as an anniversary. I recommend this feature (if appropriate), as it led to ambiance features that enhanced the occasion. The ribeye and filet menu items we chose were cooked to the specified flavor and tenderness that we were seeking, and the roasted Brussel sprouts were a perfect complement. The dessert we enjoyed was bread pudding and vanilla ice cream, an exceptional dish. Our server, Ray, was very perceptive and anticipated many things that demonstrate instinct and made our anniversary meal extraordinary. I have read (and written) many reviews that give quantitative measures of remarkable service, but I rarely see a server described as a phenom of skill and adaptability. Every little thing was commensurate and accommodated our pace and prospect. Ray demonstrated intuition, and prescience so we could enjoy the meal, our conversation, and a memorable anniversary.

However, it was a disappointment despite its high rating. My husband ordered a New York strip cooked medium-plus, and it arrived bloody red. We sent it back--twice--and by the third attempt, the steak was completely overcooked and chewy. To make matters worse, they took the steak and left the side dish so by now it was already cold. At the least they should have offered to return with a brand new steak with fresh side dish. It would have been still acceptable. For the steakhouse and they can't even cook the steak right. Unfortunately, this experience fell far short of expectations.
