So, after witnessing my wife visit this locale 3 previous times without me we decided to go together for the famed "Arizona Restaurant Week" dinner ensemble. I had the Coconut Cucumber Soup which was SURPRISINGLY very good since I absolutely hate cold or chilled soup. I had the Vegan Ravioli for my main course and it was very good as well. The lemon/Raspberry sorbet with fresh blackberries, blueberries, and Strawberries was AWESOME for dessert. So why 4 stars and not 5 you ask? Well to be completely honest when I was looking at the main menu I was really surprised by the prices for the food. Now I know this is a fine dining establishment and I have even been to more expensive restaurants throughout the country but to charge so much for very simple items is an absolute no-no in my book. Here are some examples: 48 Bucks for Seared Alaskan Halibut...c'mon I paid less than that for it and I actually was in Alaska and it was cooked right out of the ocean...LOL!!!! 62 Bucks for Prime Rib...I mean I am VEGAN now of course but I wouldn't pay 62 bucks for ANY Prime Rib unless I prepared it myself. 28 Bucks for Penne Pasta...I mean really...Pasta...I know we are coming out of a Pandemic and restaurants are raising prices, but really!!!! Now don't get me wrong I am absolutely sure the food is as good as advertised but again these are simple dishes that can be made at home for a fraction of the cost. Despite all of this though I highly recommend that you visit this establishment because the ambiance is great, the outdoor seating is outstanding , the customer service is top notch, and the pricing for restaurant week is actually pretty decent. I've been wanting to come to this restaurant for years just half of photos of the patio. The ambience and atmosphere on the patio did not disappoint. It was absolutely beautiful, and as the sun said, it just became even more beautiful with all of the lights and music. Making a reservation was easy and changing the amount of people was also very easy. Everyone we talked to was very kind and accommodating. Omar and Jose the bussers were great and then Ginny our server was very attentive. They did a nice birthday treat for my best friend too. I ordered the chopped salad and the dressing was delicious. The ring of fire drink was my fave because it was the perfect amount of spicy. The mac and cheese was also so tasty! I also really enjoyed the sticky buns as an app, they were heavenly. A true 3. The Cinnabon they give you on the house as the starter bread is better than the Cinnabon store ones, it's extra glazed in cinnamon brown sugar. Got the prime rib eye medium split between two girls, was so filling. The steak and veggies were a little salty. The steak was tender though. They host weddings here and I would say the steak was like wedding food. Best items was the deep fried lobster appetizer with honey mustard or butter dip sauce, and chicken liver bites with a caramelized onion dip. I wouldn't get the other items.. We came here for brunch today to end our anniversary staycation. We were seated on the patio and the staff immediately brought a small umbrella to cover the gap in-between the large umbrellas to keep the sun out of my eyes, for which I was thankful. The service started out pretty well but tapered off after our meal arrived. Our food arrives, and a minute later a 6 top was seated next to us and I hear one of the patrons request to move the umbrella that was placed for me. Hello blinding sun, goodbye being able to see our table and my breakfast. I flash what glare I can towards the 6 top and the senior lady patron that asked to move the umbrella looks at me and says sorry. I say to myself..Keep you mouth shut Jill.. Don't cause a scene. Our server said to the staff member that moved the umbrella, "that's already in place for another table." and that was it. A little assertiveness with the umbrella on his part would have been nice. Our server came back a few minutes later with another umbrella for me so I wouldn't have the sun in my eyes anymore and I could finally start on my breakfast. Our meals were wonderful. I had the surf and turf benedict and Husband had the croque madam aka PV ham and cheese. Oh and the sticky buns.. delicious! We ate our fill and waited for it server to return. Which between him chatting up the next table about football and going who knows where, it was about 15 minutes before we saw him again. Illegal and discriminatory. https://www.ada.gov/service_animals_2010.htm I was just turned away from an outside reservation with two of my friends and my service animal. The general manager Ryan said that unless the dog had a vest or harness that said service animal on it that he would not seat us. That's illegal. I told him that and offered to show him his documentation and service ID number and he did not care. He said I'll give you some water for your dog but I will not seat you. Proceeded to give me his business card and the owners business card. I called and texted the owner who still hasn't responded. It is disgusting and appalling that an establishment like this would illegally refuse service to a patron with a disability. I will be reporting them to all ADA agencies for their poor treatment. Update: owners have called me and offered to treat me and my guests to brunch next year. They've explained the situation on why the GM took the stand. Although it still wasn't ideal I do appreciate the follow up. read more

Prefer visiting when the weather is better and can be on the patio. The inside seating was just okay. The shrimp pepper pot is yummy for an appetizer. Shrimp cocktail is just okay. Definitely do not recommend the beef stroganoff if you don't like cooked peas & carrots added. That was a bummer. Husbands NY steak was tough even cutting it was rough. Nothing would make me happier than to write a good review. I had such high hopes for this meal, especially at $90 AND an already added 20% tip a person. I had a 5 o'clock reservation and we were there for nearly 2.5 hours. Most of the time, just waiting. We were waiting over 15 minutes just to get a glass of water, and it was not busy at all by the time we arrived. Our waitress was already to go home. She only came by to check on us after we were finished with our courses. I had to order a second drink with someone else who had her sunglasses on her head, ready to check out. The food was so-so. The green beans were undercooked and tasted wonky but I couldn't even say anything because our server was MIA. Then they were out of the chocolate torte for dessert which was extremely disappointing. Needless to say, I'm going back to making Thanksgiving at home next year! Because this was a fail. read more

El Chorro is one of my favorite restaurants and I'm so happy they're open again. I've been here a few times for dinner, but this was my first time coming here for brunch. The restaurant is taking all the necessary precautions for covid-19. Staff are wearing masks, guests are required to wear masks, table linens are changed, and seats are wiped down. I ordered the breakfast tamales which come with scramble eggs and a green salsa. It was delicious. I would definitely recommend it. My friend ordered the French toast and she said it was very good. Of course we had to order mimosas, because it wouldn't be brunch without mimosas. As always the service was amazing. Our server made sure to check on us frequently, made sure our mimosas were refilled, made sure we didn't need anything else. I've recommend this restaurant many times for dinner and now will recommend this place for brunch. read more

We took an of town guest to El Chorro for a taste of old Phoenix. The evening was wonderful, with white tablecloths, fantastic service and great food -- all the while in a comfortable and relaxed setting. However, in a city of dozens of other places that also serve brunch, I found the menu to be pretty standard. The food was good as was the bloody mary, though nothing was incredibly remarkable. I was also here for the happy hour a few months ago. Again, great atmosphere for a bar, but the drink and beer selection could be more diverse. read more

Terrible service from Ryan the general manager and his team. We will no longer frequent this restaurant as there are many great dining options in this city with superior service. Update: Ryan responded with the context of the rain, but to add extra context, we reserved a specific table, confirmed the table a couple days before, and then were literally given the worst table in the entire restaurant for an expensive Easter meal (I was freezing all meal from the draft from the front door for starters). And the weather forecast showed raining that day all week, so I don't know why El Chorro didn't have a contingency plan when it actually rained. When we asked if our table could be moved, Ryan just said it was rainy and there was nothing he could do to help us. El Chorro will do fine without our business, but my family and my in-laws are never going back. read more

Private work event - passed hors devours were phenomenal - bacon wrapped scallops, mac and cheese bites, beef crostini to name a few. Local musicians were amazing. No chance to see the view. We got there after the sunset around 7p. Dinner was family style under the stars near outdoor fireplaces. Started with sticky buns, which were unexpected and fantastic. Caesar was good, but too lightly dressed. The waitress provided extra upon request. Short ribs, mash and vegetables were good. Mini assorted desserts fell short. I would have rather had ended the evening with sticky buns and a warm cup of coffee. Would have liked to have had a blanco tequila option available (vs only repasado). When you first arrive at El Chorro, expectations are high because of its location, it's valet ($6) service, and its entrance/atmosphere. However, the restaurant fell short due to its food (mainly the appetizers) for its price. For our table of 9, i think we ordered about 5 appetizers. Because sharing is caring, I had a chance to try all of them. To be honest, i wasn't not impressed by most of them. I felt the fried items tasted fried. The sausage bites weren't anything special. The pretzel bread it came with are sliced and weren't soft as pretzel bread usually is by the time i got ahold of them. The foie gras was pretty good, but it came with 3 or so mini pieces of toast. The board wasn't bad, but again for a $30 price tag...I'm not sold. As for the entrees, I ended up getting an vegetarian dish (polenta) and I added a protein to it, which was suggested by the waitress. I liked the polenta dish a lot and its flavors. It outshined the salmon i ordered with it. And the only thing I knew about El Chollo before coming was it had great sticky buns. These we had to ask for, and they were pretty good - just a little sweet but expected. I can't speak for the other entrees, but I heard the lamb was tender and it fell off the shank and the prime rib was good, cooked to asked temperature. Overall my personal experience is a 3 star because I don't think I would come back as the prices don't justify the food or service. There are other nice comparable options. read more

I'm a Phoenix native. Don't know what breaks my heart more, what they've done to El Chorro Lodge, or writing a bad review about El Chorro. They ruined the atmosphere and the food falls way short of the price. El Chorro is just another overpriced, bland hotel restaurant now. If you want to feel Old Phoenix atmosphere, hit the Tee Pee. Food's pretty good, too. And there are literally hundreds of fine dining restaurants with much better food for the same or less money. They demolished everything about the building that made El Chorro Lodge so special, except for the "Classroom Bar", which is such a cool, authentic space. Problem is, it's only for viewing. They let you look at it but don't use it except for private parties. The decor everywhere else is exactly the same as you'll see in every other PV resort - some Californian' designer's boring rendition of Sonoran design. My dinner for 2 came to almost $200 with tip. The cocktails were just bad, and gave us both a headache - budget booze? Get the short ribs - best I've ever had anywhere. Stay away from the beef stroganoff that came covered in 1/2 inch scallions cut on the diagonal, making it taste like pad thai of all things. Sure, the sticky buns are good, but they aren't the original sticky buns that were a lot like monkey bread, and they're not nearly as good. The service, however, is excellent; so if you want to spend a lot of money in a tourist trap at least you'll be treated well. The nostalgic me still misses the cafeteria ladies of the old El Chorro Lodge, though. read more

I love El Chorro! I've come here for birthday parties, corporate events, Mother's Day brunch, and even just a casual 1:1 dinner. The food is good here, but the biggest standout is the sticky bunsssss. Truly, I come here more for the atmosphere and the sticky buns than anything else! But don't get me wrong - the rest of the food is good, too. I especially love coming here for a holiday buffet brunch with all the works and options. There's always a huge selection and the food is tasty and high quality. Definitely a GREAT spot to come eat on the regularly, but also perfect for an event or even wedding. read more

Maybe I came on an off day... I came to be with my grandma on her birthday with my sister. I never had eaten here before and was excited to go since it looked like a beautiful location. I got the best of both world eggs Benedict and some decaf coffee. The crab cakes were not good, they were very mushy, cold, and didn't taste like crab. The hollandaise sauce wasn't very good and the english muffins were rock hard I didn't even eat them and my knife couldn't even cut through them. The potatoes were so seasoned they were inedible so I didn't eat those either. I was just overall very disappointed in the food. Kinda felt like the food was one notch above a low end breakfast diner like Dennys. I ate a few bites and left still hungry. Not worth $50 read more

Super disappointing. I have been going to this fine venue for almost 40 years. My wife and I's first date was here, back in 1988. We have eaten there almost yearly since. Great classic Valley destination. Unfortunately the quality of the food has plummeted. The sticky buns alone remain excellent. We started with some nearly off shrimp in pepper sauce, then a somewhat gritty salad finishing with the sub par entrees. Unfortunately, my wife's $68.00 sea bass special gave her food poisoning; leading to a long night of misery. Maybe the chef and back of house staff should not be trusted to keep the diners safe. Despite not being able to get a restaurant on this Saturday, we learned we could sit in the bar area on a first come first serve basis. We had an entire room to ourselves with fabulous service by Ty Cameron (not the bachelor). Every single thing we ate was excellent from the wine to the cinnamon rolls to the filet mignon.
