This began as one of those nights where a bad start could've ruined the whole experience. We sat for nearly 20 minutes before being acknowledged, and honestly, were already thinking about leaving. But what happened after that completely changed the night. The staff didn't make excuses. They owned it immediately, were incredibly genuine, attentive, and went above and beyond to turn things around. By the end of the meal, not only were we glad we stayed, but it became one of the most memorable dining experiences we've had in a long time. The biggest reason for that was our waiter, Cru. Absolute professional. Personable, attentive, thoughtful, and somehow managed to make us feel like we were the only table in the restaurant despite how busy things were. Great service is easy when everything runs perfectly, but it's worth acknowledging that what Cru did was much harder. He completely changed the energy of the night through pure hospitality and effort. On top of that, his recommendations for food were spot on and exceeded our expectations. The food was outstanding, atmosphere was great, but the way the team handled adversity and recovered is what deserves recognition. Mistakes happen anywhere. Went to zuzu last night for restaurant week! I have been to zuzu before, and always enjoyed the warm and open atmosphere. We had a reservation, but it wasn't too crowded as it was a Thursday. Unfortunately, I didn't see the memo that restaurant week only started at 5:30, so I had to order from the light bites menu, but was very impressed with the food I ordered! No complaints! I came here on a Saturday evening with a friend to catch up over drinks. I ordered the non-alcoholic coconut drink and found it was really tasty! The bar staff was friendly and attentive, and I quite liked the ambience of the bar itself. It is located within a hotel, but it feels like its own little restaraunt with mood lighting and good music. I was even more surprised that the bar had plenty of seating given that a wedding party was dining there, so I wasn't expecting to find any seating, but I was pleasantly surprised. I would come again. On a logistical note, we did have to find street parking because we didn't want to pay for the hotel valet. But I didn't mind the location because we got to walk around the Scottsdale area and see other places along the way. read more

Just an amazing restaurant in the cutest 1950s style Hotel Ho in Scottsdale, Zuzu lived up to all the hype I heard. Beautiful setting with a very attentive waiter and wait staff. Also, while we were eating, we were entertained by a wonderful young woman who sang and played guitar, which we loved. I really loved my meal, the Zuzu Smashburger with 2 slabs of bacon! Delisioso! As it was my aunts 83rd birthday, they brought out the most marvelous Twinkie cake with white buttercream frosting, that was decorated with 2 chocolate iced cookies, 2 small hostess cupcakes as well as other little retro things. 10000/10 Zuzu is the hotel bar/ restaurant at the Hotel Valley Ho. We were guests at the hotel and ended up at Zuzu every night haha. I travel a lot and I'm a huge foodie. I have a rule where I refuse to eat at the same place twice bc there are so many good restaurants in Scottsdale. But Zuzu is THAT good. The first night we splurged and got the $65 truffle pasta and it was quite the experience! The next night we were tired and did plan on going somewhere, but we just got salads and apps and it was great. The service is spot on every time. I love Scottsdale and can't wait to return. Delicious Chilean Sea Bass serve here! I was stunned when I received my dinner (after having the worst cocktail the dark side) that fish just melted in your month like butter. It was cooked perfectly!! Overall our party of 14 agreed that their cocktail drinks were weak / diluted and on the sweet side. I would stick with beer or wine. The food was good! Have been coming to ZuZu's (and Hotel Valley Ho) for years and it's one of our favorite meals in Scottsdale! We've had some mixed customer service experience, but overall, we really enjoy our meals here and will continue to come back! Having had breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, and cocktails here, I can confidently say that it's a great spot! The vibe here is mid-century meets modern and really well done. If the weather is nice, I'd suggest sitting on the patio. The restaurant can get a little loud, so keep that in mind if you're coming here for a first or second date (or business meal). read more

Cool looking bar and a nice place for a cocktail. Food was a letdown. Cheesesteak was quite dry. A sesame seed hard roll is the wrong choice for that sandwich. What we got : Hazy ipa Brussel Sprouts Calamari This place is such a hidden gem. I wish it wasn't in a hotel where I would come here more often. I've never had better brussels sprouts in my life in here they cover in some kind of kimchi sauce and they put bacon in it and it is so darn addicting. I just wish they would go a little bit easy on the sauce as towards the bottom, it just becomes a pool of sauce haha and the calamari was so fresh tasting and crunchy. SENTRY - WATCHING RESTAURANTS ZuZu 6850 E Main St Scottsdale, AZ 85251 As part of Restaurant Week I decided to try ZuZu for the first time. I have no regrets. We were seated immediately and had our orders taken. The first thing I noticed was that the water was not tap water with its chlorine taste. Instead this was ice cold filtered water which was a treat to get. My companion ordered a virgin margarita and I ordered a virgin cosmo. Both were properly made. Since we were ordering off the Restaurant Week menu, my companion ordered the Caesar, and I ordered the Peruvian Scallop on the half shell. While the Caesar was a normal salad, my scallop dish was far from ordinary. Three scallops in the shell on a bed of ice. Each scallop was decorated with a piece of red Thai Chile and a Ponzu sauce. This was dynamite and was only toned down with a squirt of lime on it. We both ordered Steak Frites for our main course. A nice cut of Bavette steak with bearnaise sauce on it. The fries were perfect with lots of garlic on them and a homemade mayonnaise in the fashion of Belgium. For those not familiar with the Bavette, it comes from the bottom sirloin and has an open grain which allows it to take marinades very well. It is often referred to as the butcher's secret cut as it is very flavorful and relatively inexpensive. The only drawback is it needs to be no more than medium or it becomes tough. Dessert was Apple Cranberry Crisp served warm with a ball of vanilla ice cream topping it. This was divine and was a perfect ending to a wonderful meal. Kudo's for serving us a real, sharp steak knife. Most places serve serrated knives with some of them more suited to butchering a cow as they are so big. These were proper sized, and nicely sharp so they don't tear the steak. Sanitation was excellent and service was on point. I'd give 6 stars if I could, but I can't so I'll give 5 stars. read more

Sat at the bar today around 3:30pm. There weren't many people there, so maybe I just happened to sit on the wrong end of the bar, but the service was extremely slow. This isn't my first time at ZuZu, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. Throughout our visit, I had to repeatedly flag someone down just to get basic service or anyone's attention. My husband ordered a drink, and after waiting about 15 minutes -- while several other guests sat down and received their drinks first -- I finally had to get the bartender's attention again before the drink was brought over. Unfortunately, the drink was also not made correctly and tasted nothing like a Caipirinha, especially coming from someone who also works in the industry. Thankfully, a woman who I believe may have been the manager eventually came over, because we ended up waiting just as long trying to close out our tab. The bread pudding is worth a try but I had the breakfast sandwich and tried my friends hash, pancakes, and French toast and overall was not impressed with any of the mains, especially for the price. I visit ZuZu yearly for the AZ Tiki Oasis event and scheduled a lunch reservation. The food was tasty and the drinks were delicious, but the service was horrible. I had to wait over an hour for my food, and the waitstaff left my drinks empty. I had what seemed like the manager come and apologize for the delay, but after 2 hours, they should have comp'd a round of drinks or offered a discount. Needless to say, I felt they should have been more prepared for an event that is annual and and now on a several year run. This was my worst experience at ZuZu, all of the time I planned to attend the AZ Tiki Oasis event was consumed by this extended 2 hour tour at ZuZu. I wont be returning next year. read more

We tried this restaurant because a magazine raved about its cheesesteak. To our surprise, we discovered that the cheesesteak is only offered until 2:30, and was not available for dinner. Since we were there, we decided to have dinner and chose a pasta dish with Parmesan and some truffles, advertised for two people at $65. To our surprise, the amount served was no larger than many pasta the dishes I've been served for ONE at many other restaurants. Overcharged. The cocktails were also pricey at $18 per. In addition, we were told that the iceberg wedge was big enough to share. Not quite, in my opinion. It was the smallest iceberg lettuce I have ever seen. Needless to say, when we left, we were not satisfied with the quantity of food (although it was tasty - but not for a bill of $125 before the tip). We will not return. He was incredibly kind and offered us so much info on everything from the menu to some of things we should explore while in town. For dinner we had the chicken sandwich and a burger. It was delicious!! We finished our meal with a brookie. It was like this hot out of the oven brownie topped with a scoop of ice cream. It was amazing! For breakfast my husband had the fried rice, and I ordered the omelette and the buttermilk pancakes. This is the restaurant at The Valley Ho Hotel in Scottsdale. I've been here many times and each time I've had a very good experience! I used to come specifically for the Steak Tartare. Unfortunately, they changed either the whole recipe or the chef or both but its just not the same at all and I dont like the changes. So, this time I thought I would try the carpaccio. It was definitely a nice change but not steak tartare. I was tasty and plenty for just me but I dont think I will order it again. Staff is always on point! And the ambiance is fabulous! We stayed at the Valley Ho to attend the wedding of some great friends of ours. Because I am lazy and we didn't rent a car, I am always cool hanging out at the hotel bar and restaurant for the most par. Most times I don't expect much, but I was pleasantly surprised by the service and food at ZuZu, so much that this was the only place The Doctor and I ate at while in town. As some of the other reviewers have mentioned, ZuZu is an extension of the Valley Ho's Mid-Century look. The indoor décor is lovely as well as the outdoor area...absolutely wonderful, with plenty of umbrellas to keep the sun off of us, even though it was not that warm. For the most part, every meal we had there was great, and the service was excellent. There were not many times where I got to fill my own flute with bubbles, which I am used to doing. I can speak with authority that breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all worthwhile. Some of the dishes for dinner are very eclectic, going from Mexican to Iceland to Asia. I am sure that there are other places to eat in Scottsdale, but as this was my first time here, this would be my go to place if we travel back here. read more

Ate here a few times during our stay thanks to AMEX Hotel Collection program and must say it did not disappoint. Sometimes hotel restaurants can leave you wanting more, but not here friends. For breakfast I highly recommend the pancakes, breakfast sammie and the breakfast burrito which is the size of a professional arm-wrestlers forearm, so def sharable. Pro-Tip: you can sub chorizo for any meat which I also recommend. The bar is delightful as well, with not outrageous prices. Menu includes 10 or so cocktails, from classics to new classics. I don't love leaving a 3 star review as we've had some great meals here but our most recent experience left a bad taste in my mouth (metaphorically, the food was still good). We did our wedding dinner in the Rosie Room a year ago and had a wonderful experience and were excited to have our anniversary dinner here. My husband mentioned in the reservation that it was our anniversary, but no one said anything about it them entire night. Not a big deal. What was a big deal was that it took 15 minutes after we were seated for anyone to even acknowledge us. It took a full 45 minutes after we were seated for any of our food to arrive. Shout out to the guy refilling waters as he was by far the most attentive server that evening. We decided to do the chef roulette which overall was a fun trip experience, but I would not do it again. The amuse bouche, first course, and dessert were fun and incentive and things not on the menu. The rest of the courses, while tasty, were just slight riffs on existing menu items, and, frankly, didn't pair particularly well together. I get it, it's roulette and not an actual tasting menu, but it just felt a little lazy. Overall, good food, experience left some things to be desired. Still love the hotel but will probably venture further afield for dinner next time. read more

What a cool retro vibe! Not like dusty old retro that hasn't been updated since the 70's, but rather, modern retro. The hostess was very nice. Our server was great! She made pointed out things on the menu to try and took great care of our little ones! We really liked the food!
