I originally decided to try this place after seeing the margarita specials posted on Louisville Takeout on Facebook, and as someone who loves a good cheap marg, that definitely caught my attention. Just a heads up though, you do have to purchase an entrée to qualify for the alcohol specials, so keep that in mind before going. The soft serve margarita was honestly the highlight of the visit. It was smooth, flavorful, and actually better than the one I recently tried at Veronica's. I would genuinely go back just for the margarita alone. Unfortunately, the food itself was disappointing for me. I ordered steak tacos, and when they came out, they smelled off, almost like the meat was old. The tacos were also extremely small. At first I wished I had ordered more because of the size, but after tasting and smelling them, I was glad I didn't. I tried steak tacos from another restaurant just a couple days later and they tasted completely normal, so it really stood out to me here. Another thing I noticed immediately was the smell inside the restaurant itself. Walking in, the odor was pretty unpleasant and strong enough that I literally had to put scented lotion on just to tolerate it while eating. Overall, this was kind of a mixed experience for me. The margaritas were excellent and definitely the saving grace, but the food quality and overall smell of the restaurant made it hard for me to fully enjoy the visit. read more

I tried el comal taqueria today for lunch. Ordered a grilled chicken quesadilla with a coke. For starters, the portions they provide are very generous and the quality of food is on point. The fact that I was able to just eat half of my meal and be satisfy lets me know it's a good bank for your buck. It was a great experience. I will try it again. read more

I was referred by my parents since they been here before. Off we went to try it & was accompanied by one of my parents. Location was easy to find right off Dixie hwy, plenty of parking. We were greeted as soon as we walked in & was seated right away. They have more of a sports bar vibe going on, there were tvs with games on our entire meal. The bathroom in the back & clean & well stocked. They had a large menu with lots of options. I opted for some tacos, 2 tacos de lengua & 2 pollo adobado & a chorizo sope with a jarritos to drink. She got a Diet Coke & 4 pollo Asado tacos. We also ordered a taco combo to go. They provided chips & salsa. The salsa wasn't hot at all & a bit watery for my liking & the chips were a bit too oily as well, this is a personal preference. Our food came out fairly quickly. Once again this is my personal preference & I'm use to eating more flavorful dishes. My tacos were okay, I had to put salt on my food which isn't bad but I rarely have to use it. The lengua tacos was okay, hardly any seasoning & was one slice. The pollo adobado had some seasoning but was really dry. The chorizo on the sope the flavor was nonexistent. She didn't eat much since her tacos looked more like cooked chicken & not grilled. The server were really nice & concerned about our food. But she didn't want to make a fuss & ordered chunky guacamole once again was good but no flavor we had to add salt to it. We didn't get any lime with our tacos. But the server will get it if you want. My parents said it was better the first time they came & was shocked at the difference in the food. Absolutely fantastic! This is the best taco place I've had in Louisville metro area. A bit away from my usual areas, but as I was traveling I had to go taste it. Completely worth it every single minute. The best things are their chips and wha tI think were freshly made corn tortillas. The tacos were flawless, from portion size to flavor to hold, pure perfection. The best ones were carnitas and barbacoa. The steak torta os perfect as well, I got that to go and they gave even more chips and salsa The place is spotless, very clean restrooms and the service is fast, friendly and professional. This was a date night. We love Mexican food. So we had an inside tip about a great restaurant. Although, this was our first visit it will not be our last trip. If you want authentic Mexican food this is a restaurant you must try. They have very generous portions. The food was quite tasty. It was some of the best Mexican food we have had in a long time. Off to a good start in my book!! I work around the corner and saw this place finally opened up to thought I'd stop by for lunch this week....And I'll definitely be back! The inside was nice, with simple decor and clean overall. They have a good amount of seating with bar seating as well which will be great when they serve alcohol eventually. There seems to be enough parking as well if you're able to park around the side/back of the building. The chips are AMAZING! They have that homemade, thicker style and I got them while warm....so good. I'll definitely get chips anytime I eat here. The guacamole was fresh and had chunky pieces of avocado which was nice, I'd recommend it as well. The queso was delicious too and would get that again for sure. The torta was good but probably not something I'd order again just due to the bread/bun they used. I would get the street tacos again thought for sure. On the smaller side but about average from other similar places. I enjoyed all the meats but did like some more than others. Chicken/Pastor was my favorite, then the carnitas and followed by the asada. The salsas were pretty tasty too! Definitely try this new establishment if you're in the area on Dixie! read more

The food was very good and hit the spot, will definitely come again! The waitress was very nice and helpful, the food came out nice and i would have taken a picture if I didn't eat it immediately! The price was very reasonable as well, I would recommend this place to any Mexican food lovers. After finding El Comal on Facebook we decided to make the trek across town for Cinco de Mayo meets taco Tuesday, and am boy am glad I did. 15 tacos, beans, rice, salsa, THE most fantastic chips, queso, and verde salsa for less than $30 with a tip included! I mean you can't do better than that! And as if the price wasn't a huge win, the food was delicious. We ordered two of each $0.99 taco (except vegetarian, chorizo, or pork belly) and tried our darnedest to eat all of them but it was SO much food, guess we'll just have to have it again for lunch tomorrow I highly recommend making the trip down, you won't regret it. read more

The lunch braised beef quesadilla I had was excellent. However her hamburger chimichanga was bad. The braised beef was tender. It had some fat but it was all melt in your mouth tasty. Her hamburger, however was tough and grizzly with almost no flavor. The refried beans were a little different. There were lots of large pieces that were not smashed up and they were OK. The rice was kind of bland, but nothing wrong with it. Unfortunately they have Pepsi on fountain they do have bottles of Coke. the quesadilla was a good size for lunch and only like 799. They do give 6% cashback on Upside course I had an additional 30% bonus that day the waitress had a little trouble with her English but otherwise the service was friendly and helpful. They made sure to get me a receipt that I could use for Upside. The salsa tasted pretty good fairly mild, but not tasteless. Love this place! Not the greatest location because Dixie highway is so so busy, but if you are in the area, definitely check it out! This place is amazing!! For starters, their chips are thin and crispy, and so delicious! The guacamole is chunky and tastes extremely fresh, and their cheese dip is really good as well!! The few times we have been so far, I have always gotten the combo #3 with skirt steak, absolutely amazing!!! The steak is cooked great and the corn tacos are a perfect serving size. I literally crave these tacos constantly!! My husband has tried the burritos, tacos and quesadilla, and so far his personal favorite is the skirt steak quesadilla! This food is straight up FIRE. I discovered this spot because of door dash and I'm so glad I did. They have the best chips and salsa. Like super chunky onion and lots of cilantro & the chips are made in house and so fresh and thin/crispy. On Tuesday's, they have street tacos for .99 and I had the ground beef and chicken (they were out of steak) and they were sooooo good! My husband ordered the chicken with cheese and rice and it was a huge portion for only $8.99! So happy this spot is around the corner and I will keep coming back! read more

Hands down the best tacos on Dixie and I've had a lot of them. Excellent salsa and chips swallowed up by four tacos of pork belly skirt steak chicken and carnitas. I admit it, my favorite food type is Mexican and freshly made. It must be authentic, and since I am from California I'm a fan of simplistic locations. These were difficult to find until recently in Kentucky. The Southern Side-(Southend of Louisville) has long been lacking for good eateries and breakfast locations. Today while driving on Dixie Hwy I discovered a new eatery at the former Jessie's restaurant location. I ordered a Chorizo and Egg Burrito, with cheese and salsa added. I didn't know it would also contain refried beans. It's not a bad thing but next time I would prefer just the main ingredients. The Pico was served on the side instead and since I'd ordered to go, the juices had made my burrito soggy before I could eat. My words of wisdom "don't eat a takeout burrito that you plan to eat in your car while wearing a dress"! Those notes aside, the burrito was fresh, simple and delicious and I somehow managed to find a way to devour all of it. One other note, I appreciate that this restaurant serves Pepsi, and I noted that since they've applied for a liquor license, I'd expect to enjoy a margarita in the future. If they make their own sweet and sour mix for drinks I will become a super fan of this location. read more

Let me start off by addressing the 5 star ratings and anything above 4. Y'all must have no taste buds. For a drink I ordered the horchata. Watery as hell. They use the powder based instead of actually making it. The steak was chewy, no flavor, the buchè was more chewy, no flavor, and the Al pastor was trash. It was just charred and burnt. Also no flavor, except for burnt. I would recommend this place is your standard for Mexican food is Taco Bell. Otherwise, I don't record this flavorless food. One plus were the limes. We ordered a 15-taco platter, nachos, choriqueso, and churros for takeout. I can't believe that I haven't eaten here before, but am already planning on doing so again. The tacos were amazing - we chose pork belly, ground beef, skirt steak, and marinated chicken. The chicken was ever slightly dry, but in a way that made each bite release a bit more of the incredible flavor they marinated into it. The ground beef, skirt steak, and pork belly were all great, flavorful, and generously portioned in each taco. The salsas (we got 3 types with our taco platter) were all delicious, although the spicy is SPICY! The chips are something that has to be experienced. I've never had them quite so light and crispy and yet also structurally up-to-the-task. Soooo gooooood! The nachos, despite sitting in a takeout container for probably 10-15 minutes, were still crispy and fresh (again, the chips are a thing to behold). They were delicious, and we didn't end up with any leftovers! The choriqueso was delicious as well - it's a bit fatty, but you're ordering a bowl of sausage cheese so you get what you ask for. It was a great sauce to spoon over a plate of chips or for dipping (provided you give it a good stir every now and again). The churros...? Oh, the churros... ever since I went to D-World down in Florida (over a decade ago) the bar for churros was set so high that I have been consistently disappointed every time I try to recreate that delicious experience. Taqueria El Comal knocked it out of the park. I was able to cut them up easily with a spoon to serve to everyone at the table (a good sign!), and they were a HIT. So crispy on the outside with that sweet cinnamon sugar coating, met on the inside with a soft, warm, rich, barely cooked dough that just melted in the mouth. I was already so impressed after finishing the main course that I wasn't able to consider getting a perfect meal from a little place on Dixie Highway, but the churros were the metaphorical icing on the cake. Perfection! Thank you so very much to the friendly staff waiting the counter as well. The Saturday after Christmas isn't exactly everyone's favorite day to work, but the counter staff and cooking staff at Taqueria El Comal made our day. We will be recommending to everyone and absolutely will be visiting again! read more

As of about 11:30 am today I am on a personal mission to make sure this place survives Corona. Unfortunate timing for a new restaurant to open! The chips were freshly made, the salsa flavorful with the right amount of heat, the beans and rice are the best I've had at any Mexican restaurant in Kentucky! My hubby got the Huevos con chorizo and I had the street tacos and I honestly can't pick a favorite. The meats in the tacos are expertly seasoned, the portions were huge! We also got the papas con pollo to share because they looked too tempting to pass up...SO GOOD! Definitely a guilty pleasure. This used to be the old Jessie's restaurant which is now "authentic" Mexican food. I got just a beef and chicken soft taco and I did not like it at all!! I couldn't eat any of it, even the rice and beans had a weird taste to them. I have eaten at a lot of Mexican restaurants but this is the worst! Don't waste your time or monies! I will say this: I have been to so many taquerias around Louisville and across most of Kentucky, and this is by far my favorite. Some others have impressed me more with specific menu items here or there, but overall, this place is consistently the absolute best!! My girlfriend and I come here at least once a week from Fern Creek. It's a family owned and ran place and everyone that works there is so nice! They make their chips and salsa both in house and they are the staple of this place in my opinion. I've tried just about every one of their tacos and they are just full of flavor. I can't rant enough about how much I enjoy this place. It's not as well known being located on Dixie Highway, but if you are looking for a killer taqueria that you haven't tried before, make the drive and give them a chance. The food was subpar at best it was overcooked and avocado was spoiled shredded salad and dry rice One Shining peace was the salsa and chips were pretty darn good well I did not eat all of the dried up meat so I asked for a to go box so I could literally take it home and feed it to my dog no joke along with some more salsa because I was going to eat the chips and finish off the salsa but I think she thought I was trying to take the salsa home so she was reluctant but after four or five request for more salsa she eventually caved and brought me some more salsa and a to-go box when she returned with my salsa and to-go box I politely ask her if I can get a drink to go and stormed over there got the refill cup and came back to the table and poured my half a cup of soda in the new cup put a lid on it and said there you go so pretty rude if you ask me I really went in with high hopes for the new restaurant at this location but was very disappointed read more
