It was one of those perfect afternoons where the sun was bright but the air was not hot. The Patio at the El Dorado was full of diners and as we walked to our table I knew we might be in for a treat as we looked at what was being eaten. We started with bloody Mary's accompanied by the delicious truffle fries with two great sauces to enhance the flavour. Yum! Once we finished our drinks and appetiser we ordered our lunches and were not disappointed when they arrived. Two guests who ordered the risotto said it was delicious...a perfect balance between different flavours, Crunchy and smooth textures and a great presentation. My salmon was also delicious. Cooked just right and the plate was finished off with sides that enhanced the flavor of the salmon. The carbonara ordered by one guest was up for another rave. She said the balance between the bacon, egg and sauce was one of the most interesting combinations she had ever enjoyed. A nice compliment. We stopped in for breakfast/brunch on a Sunday with a couple friends and sat in the back patio. The service was fantastic, as it usually is. We ordered a bottle of sparkling wine and it was lovely - my only complaint is that they put very big blocks of ice into the ice bucket so it was next to impossible to actually cover the bottle with ice - smaller ice and some water in the bucket would've helped a lot. I usually order either the chilaquiles or the short rib hash and that day felt like a short rib hash day. This is one of my absolute favorites and if you love tender short rib, potatoes, and poached eggs, you will love this. I've also asked for the eggs to be done over easy/medium before so that's always an option if you prefer it. My wife had the lobster sandwich special and it was okay. We thought it would be more like a lobster roll on some sort of toasted brioche roll, but it came out on a rather large ciabatta roll instead, which was a bit tough to bite without half of the lobster falling out. Overall, the lobster was cooked well and nicely seasoned and dressed, but as a sandwich, it was unexpectedly messy and just felt like way too much bread to lobster. Overall, EDK is always a solid option for breakfast/brunch. If you plan ahead, there are better options on the plaza, but EDK almost always has space, which is great for us because we never plan ahead! read more

I was hosting a group of 16 people for a day of wine tasting in the Sonoma area and we came here for dinner. We did arrange group dining with them ahead of time. We sat in the main dining room and ordered off the regular menu but we were well taken care of. We had a food & beverage minimum to meet and ended up taking home a bunch of bottles of wine to get closer to the minimum amount. We all enjoyed our food and drinks. Service was good as well. I started with the Potato leek soup: house made croutons, smoked salmon, olive oil, chives. This was really delicious. Nice flavor. My VP ate the smoked salmon off the top as I don't like it. He enjoyed it. For my entree, I had the SEARED SCALLOPS: golden raisins, citrus, capers, almonds, spinach, yukon gold potatoes, cauliflower curry purée. This was really tasty. I came here with 2 girlfriends for a relaxing day wine tasting, eating and visiting. We chose to eat outside where they have lots on umbrellas in a cute courtyard. Their service was a little slow, but their food is delicious. We got appetizers only with drinks. And when I say loves, they tend to order multiples to share. Since my steak came with regular fries, we only got one order of the truffle fries. (We were originally going to get two additional orders of fries to share between four people.) They were fried nicely and came with parmesan and chives. I didn't get much of a truffle aroma / flavor tho. The steak I ordered was cooked perfectly temp wise. A nice rare plus. We had a vegetarian at the table and he seemed to enjoy the soup. Another in our party tends to stick to healthier options and got the vegan plate and soup as well. He said the vegan plate was a big portion. I tried the brunch pizza toppings and they were fine. Drinks wise, I like my cocktails dark and boozy. I completely missed the note about the whisky sour being clear. I did not enjoy this. It tasted like a light watery syrup with a hint of liquor. So not my jam. My follow up, a double paloma was much better. Definitely enjoyed this more. Our server was great. Tho I think she had a bit too many tables as she was always at a different table taking orders, etc. We had told her we had a wine appointment at 1:30pm which she noted. Nice atmosphere. Excellent service. Very nice and helpful waitress. The food quality is good but the menu is limited. I thought the salmon main dish was solid but the sides I did not care for. The biggest disappointment is the online website. It is either wrong or dishonest or both. It lists filet mignon as a main course option. No filet mignon option was available when we sat down and looked at the menu in the restaurant. The only steak options were ribeye and Denver steaks which I hate both. I had to order a dish that in the end I didn't love. I specifically chose this restaurant for the filet mignon dish listed on the website which wasn't even on the menu. Get your website menu correct and be honest. That said it was still a good quality restaurant and earned four stars. Absolutely loved El Dorado Kitchen. Our server at Buena Vista Winery recommended this gem of a restaurant. So glad he did. When you enter, it's part of the El Dorado Hotel and you feel that rustic 1843 old west vibe because that's when the hotel was built! Once you go into the restaurant, it's modern, yet classy. The host was very welcoming and sat our party immediately. We ordered the beet salad: fresh, vibrant, perfect ying and yang of flavors with the fresh goat cheese, candied pistachios, citrus, jicama, cilantro, jalapeño yogurt, lemon vinaigrette. I got mine with prawns and it was delectable! We also ordered the tostada, that thing is HUGE! Packed with great flavor as well with chipotle braised chicken, black bean purée, cotija cheese, avocado, iceberg, cilantro, pico de gallo, spicy crema. Loved it! This spot was one of our favorite breakfasts on our Sonoma trip. It's a small, intimate dining space with great natural light. The breakfast menu is simple but effective. No syrups or flavorings offered for coffee, but their mocha is excellent- not too sweet. I got the buttermilk waffles, which were tender and came with bananas and whipped cream- perfect sweet tooth satisfier. My boyfriend got the short rib hash, which was a delicious combination of vegetables, short rib, and seasoned greens. The dressing on the greens was a bit salty, but that was the only thing that was a miss for us. Food was delicious and service was attentive but not overbearing. I really loved my dinner experience at El Dorado Kitchen from start to finish. We were seated outside however it was in a corner and felt far away from the action so we asked to be moved to another table which was met with kindness and understanding so we were moved to what we felt was the perfect spot. It was also a little chilly so when I asked if they happened to have a blanket our server brought one almost immediately. When we were debating over a pinot noir the server was very helpful and the one we ordered went great with the potato leek soup with smoked salmon and seafood paella ordered. I didn't actually realize that this place is also a hotel. After we got lucky with a park in the Sonoma Square, we walked across the street to El Dorado. When we entered yesterday I got an upscaled and modern kind of vibe to this place. We were struggling a little bit with trying to find breakfast around 9am so when we entered and saw a whole room empty we were happy for the availability. The hostess in front greeted us right away and sat us immediately. Our waiter offered us drinks and not much longer after that we were ordering. Overall I was very impressed with the experience. It's always a leap of faith to try a new restaurant and im just glad that per usual, the restaurant was as solid as the reviews. I did try a couple bites of my girls hash and thought it was tasty. My French Toast was pretty good as well. I think I enjoyed the texture of the bread the most. I always enjoy when the bread of French Toast is thicker than usual. The flavor was good too. The amount of syrup they give you is the perfect amount. The fact that you are able to have such good flavor with little syrup is a good sign for dish. Though there wasn't anything that blew me out the park, I really appreciated how carefully prepared everything was put together. I stopped here for lunch after spending time at a Napa Winery. I ate outdoors in their very nice patio area. I ordered the tuna poke bowl and a Spanish cidra. The bowl was a perfect balance of veggies, seeds, seaweed, rice, vinaigrette, and poke. It was a perfect lunch. I ordered the cidra because after plenty of wine tastings I preferred to go to something low in alcohol before moving on to the next winery in Sonoma. Plus, I'm a big Spanish cidra fan. We went for lunch. I saw this restaurant on Happy Cow and lots of reviews mentioned a vegan bowl yet nothing on the lunch menu seems to be vegan. I was trying to piece together ingredients before speaking to the server and they said they "might" be able to add tofu to the tostada. I didn't see tofu on the menu at all but they did do a tofu tostada sans the dairy ingredients. It was good. I am not sure why they don't make a designated vegan entree when they do have tofu? Seems weird and after inviting 5 people here with me for lunch I was getting nervous when I didn't see this "vegan bowl" anywhere in sight. They have chickpeas in another dish (and sometimes tofu???) so all the ingredients seem to be there to charge us $29 for a vegan dish. The cocktails were good. The service was just ok. I'd skip when in town again and look for something better until they update their menu. read more

The atmosphere is clean upscale that could be for an adult outing or a great date night, has an open kitchen concept. Easter Brunch fixed price three course experience at $85. I requested patio seating in my reservation and this request was not accommodated. The web site noted an "amuse-bouche" which was eliminated on the bunch menu at the restaurant with no price adjustment. Now let's get on to the pleasant part of the review. We ordered Ramos fizzes to start. This is a "luck of the draw" order at most restaurants but for me a must for Sunday brunch! It was fantastic, creamy, fizzy, citric. Highly recommended. Then we moved on to the appetizer, three deviled eggs with crab and caviar. A chef's creation that did not disappoint, superb in presentation, texture and taste. Bravo! For the main course I had scallops another challenging dish to perfect. Severed with roasted cauliflower, spinach, almonds, sherry vinaigrette and a caper raisin sauce. The scallops were superior with a perfectly browned and seared outside and a tender succulent interior. Magnificent. My guest had crab eggs Benedict basically a crab cake with eggs and hollandaise on top. For dessert my guest had the carrot cake with cream cheese and maple ice cream just delicious, moist with a wonderful pairing of flavors. I had the meyer lemon meringue with berries. Now I'm a lemon meringue nut and my plate looked like it had never had anything on it when I was through! Just spectacular. Kudos to the chef and kitchen staff. Could not have been a better brunch. Four friends met at EDK for lunch yesterday (Saturday), including a good sized wedding party! Great looking Bride's dress! The place was pre-Covid hoppin', which was wonderful to see. Our waiter is Jordie. He did a great job, not hovering, very good at his job. I had steak and fries, medium rare. Two crab sandwiches, a veggie fritatta, couple of Cokes, and 2 excellent desserts. Needed a last minute dinner reservation in Sonoma area, decided on the Alvarado since I have been there before a couple times. It's a nice big open floor plan on the ground floor of a small Hotel right on the square. Parking was easy across the street. I got the reservation for the time I wanted too. We received at a table but discovered that we were pretty far part of each other and it wasn't the best place for us. I asked if we could move to another table and they requested that about any problems. We got we got the seat. We wanted and ordered dinner, which were to first course options and two Main course. The food was good. Even though it is considered expensive. We didn't have anything to drink because we were out of wine tasting already. So that brought the Bill down to a level. That was not a problem. This is a good place to go whether it's by yourself, or groups, or with children. My partner wanted to revisit ED on our trip to see if last time was an off night for the kitchen. This visit we were pleased with everything that we ordered, from the drinks to the main courses. Our drinks this time were excellent. Our starter was the ahi tuna tartare which was pretty standard but good. I had the filet mignon, which at first glance seemed a bit small but I left full. My partner had the seafood paella which was very generous in size. Everything was delish. Our server seemed very young and inexperienced (a bit immature perhaps). He took our order and got it right. Checked on us once, but that was it. No expanding on the offerings. Nothing approaching fine dining. He seemed more interested in socializing with his coworkers. Definitely a high end feel. Our waiter was great and service was excellent. This prices were a little on the high side; but the food was SO GOOD! We ordered: TRUFFLE FRIES: sprinkled with shaved Parmesan. Very tasty. Normally, I eat a few fries and I'm done; but I finished it off! BEET SALAD: I didn't see much dressing but I was surprised how tasty it was! All the beets were hidden under the arugula. BURRATA w/PESTO: This came with a few crostinis. This dish actually didn't have much taste. My friend and I was expecting a strong pesto taste but you couldn't taste anything. Revised EDK and clearly need to do midweek lunch more often. Starting with Cynthia providing exceptional service and a couple cocktails, Gin Gypsy for me and spicy tequila for dining partner. Entire menu looked great and debated ordering a few apps, scallops, ceviche etc but gave the lobster sandwich and tuna poke a go. We were slightly skeptical of a non traditional lobster roll turned sandwich but the combo of lobster claw meat, bacon, jalapeño vinaigrette and apple was incredible on perfect brioche bun. Tuna poke was enough for to share, very fresh ahi, radish, avocado, seaweed salad over nicely seasoned rice. Will definitely be back on the patio for lunch soon. EDK for the win. read more
