Fantastic, so delicious, maybe a tad expensive, but they give two tortillas with every taco, so you can make a whole new one with whatever falls out of the first. I don't like that they charge extra for almost everything from sour cream, and refills, to extra salsa, but the food is so so yummy it's worth it. You can have your choice of many types of meat, and while the burrito lent itself to their name, I can't recommend the tacos enough! Mmmmmm El Famous. Such good tacos! The Chile Relleno taco is my favorite.. without beans(yuck).. next to their steak tacos. I love that they include the tomatoes, lettuce, and cheese on their tacos without charging you extra for it like other places do. They're also really nice whenever we come in and eat in. My coworkers and I ALWAYS order from here on Taco Tuesday when they're only $1.25 per taco. They never let me down, and I'm usually picky about my mexican food. My family and I have ordered food from here for YEARS. We never have an issue. But the one time I ordered a platter of beans for my sister in laws baby shower, they messed it up. I ordered a small platter the night before and when my dad picked it up the day of the shower, he told me it was $50. I told him there was no way because the guy on the phone the night before told me itd be 30 for a small. Well my dad told me that this was no small tray... It was huge. Frustrated and beyond stressed because I was in charge of this shower, I called the restaurant with my complaint and got a guy on the phone who didn't even know what I was saying! I argued with him for about 10 mins before I told him I was coming in to get the correct size and to get most of my money back. So I went in and got the correct size and everyone gave me dirty looks. I didn't even get an apology. I am so sorry that I ordered a small and received a large because someone didn't understand me. Not my fault. read more

We've been coming here for years, but the past few times it's not up to par. I'm not sure if they have a different cook or if they're using another butcher, but it's just not the same. Service is great, and that's why I'm still giving 2 stars, but the food. Ehh....not so good, and it's unfortunate because I really liked this place. The tacos de carne asada are just over cooked, dry, and crispy as if they just kept it on the grill since the lunch rush. hands down on of the best mexican places to eat at by far! there tacos are soooo good and there guac is the best!! the horchata is a must have as well! the only downfall that doesnt allow me to give them a 5 star is the customer service. when they are busy the guy on the phone is rude... they are unorganized with their orders .. they hang up on you because they dont have enough people answering phones... they need a lot of work here. but overall good place to eat! read more

Okay, I had a major hankering for tacos and guacamole last night, so I had my boyfriend drive me here to eat. I ordered the three taco dinner with chicken tacos that had lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and cilantro on them and an order of chips and guacamole to share with the boyfriend(he wasn't all that hungry). Food was pretty tasty, especially the refried beans and the guacamole was not bad. Basically, everything was tasty... Until we left. My boyfriend only ate the guacamole and chips and a few hours after we ate, we were both feeling queasy. We woke up this morning feeling like complete and utter crap, like there were rocks in our bellies and he spent the whole evening passing gas. Not pleasant. It's a shame, too, because the food was good and it was fairly cheap, but I will definitely not be going back. I even went out of my way to thank everyone because I really enjoyed my meal. I grew up in Wheeling and I love El Famous Burrito. The only reason I keep coming back is because the food is good and it will always have a place in my heart. However, the last few times I have been there, a new(er) woman took my order. I am not trying to come off as mean, but it is hard for me to come back when I clearly order something basic and she gets it wrong. She simply doesn't understand me and I could not be anymore clear when ordering. Mind you the ordering is in person and not even on the phone (situation on the phone was a nightmare). It's problematic for the business and customer when the person taking orders doesn't understand the customer, especially when the customer is being as clear as day. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying fire her, but someone else obviously needs to take the orders from your customers. After I corrected her after I saw the receipt, I come home and my order is wrong STILL. I ordered two dinners and checked one of them before I left - which was fine, but the second order was wrong. Shame on me for not checking the second dinner. This ongoing problem makes it difficult to keep going there; i prefer my food be made the way I ordered it. Please make some changes to improve your service. The current situation there is only detrimental. read more

Love this place! Best Mexican food in the Northwest burbs. We love the steak and chile rellenos burrito with extra cilantro. Amazing food, we usually get carry out, but sometimes eat in. Not big on atmosphere in the restaurant, but we don't go there for ambiance. The tacos and burritos are freshly made and worth the drive. Taco Tuesday is a great idea, if you don't mind crunch bits of steak with anything you get. They give a lot of lettuce, and if you change up your order three times out of five will mess it up.
