I heard this morning on GMT that El Fenix was celebrating their 97 Birthday with an enchilada special. The place was surprising not packed for lunch. I was seated in a booth in the rear. My waiter Reuben was there with the most amazing thin & crispy chips. I ordered the cheese enchiladas with queso with onions. They were great, hot and still bubbling on the plate. Reuben returned about 5 times either to refill my sweet tea or just to check on me. I must say he is the best waiter I have ever experienced. He was personable and friendly and we even chatted about our love of Mole and the lack of availability in the area with so many mexican places. If I had the money I would definitely invest in this man and his vision to open his own place. I eat out alot and this is definitely at the top of my list to return to. I've always enjoyed El Fenix, but do yourself a favor and drive to one in Fort Worth or Dallas. Every time I try and give this one another chance I get ticked off because service is horrible. Food is good when the servers don't screw up the order. I went back the other night and was thinking wow, the service is great and pretty decent. Well for whatever reason the new server we had "had to leave" but I'm thinking she was sent home because I saw the manager talking to her. Service was prompt but food was wrong. Ordered pork tacos on corn tortillas but they came out on flour. Menu indicated it would be served with salsa Verde. The best thing about this restaurant is the sopapillas. They were very good. The server we had was very unfriendly and treated us like we were an inconvenience. This tainted the whole dining experience. The tacos I ordered were okay but seemed overpriced for a lunch special. read more

Only went here because Frescoe's was closed and we wanted chips and queso. Hostess seemed upset when we asked to sit in the bar to eat. No menus or utensils were given. Waitress had a poor attitude and never stayed at the table longer than 2 seconds for us to ask her for anything. Sat with empty chips and salsa bowls for a while. On top of all that the food was crappy and the margaritas had so much mix they looked radioactive. Will never go back. read more

I've only been to this establishment once and i thought it was great. So, my husband and I decided to come back again but my experience with the hostess was so unpleasant. We arrived and the hostess told us if we can wait while she gets a table ready. We didn't think anything of it. We waited and saw that a big group that arrived after us was immediately seated. Okay we thought maybe they had a reservation. Then another couple arrived and again they were immediately seated. Now that had us question why has everyone else been seated and we are still waiting. The only difference was that they were all white and my husband and I were not. Which We found was strange since this is a Mexican restaurant. The hostess lied to the manager that we requested a booth when in fact she never gave us a choice. Although our waiter was perfect, our food was good, and we did not get charged for our bill, the discrimination we felt was unshakable. We will not be coming back. read more

Went on a Friday for lunch. Hostess was a nightmare. She was bubbly but rude. 'We have a wait of 15 minutes but it'll probably be a lot longer.' 'I can seat you but we have a server shortage'. Seriously? She basically was encouraging customers to leave. Whoever the manager is needs to open their ears and listen to that chick run her trap. Definitely not up to standard. The wife and I went today to the Burleson Texas for dinner. We wait for the hostess to seat us. Which did not occur. We told there would a wait, we offered to be seat in the Bar and told wait in entry. There tables available both in the bar and main restaurant. Got an email that El Fenix was having margaritas for $1.00. My family went and we ordered 2 margaritas with dinner. First of all they were terrible and we were charged full price for the drinks. I asked why and they said because we did not ask for the $1.00 margaritas. Really, you advertise something at a certain price then the customer has to ask for it? Ridiculous! We went today, Labor Day and it was terrible. They use to have good food and service, but not anymore. Walked in and no one to seat us. Waited for several minutes. Two groups of people needed to pay their bill and finally someone showed up, but had to help them first. Finally got seated, but no waitress. Waited several minutes before someone asked if we had been helped. I mean no drinks or chips. We finally got that and it must have been another 30 minutes or more before we got our food. Ate all the chips and queso we ordered. Never got any soft tortillas. Ran out of tea and waitress no place in site. Plate was hot, but not the food. Beans were way too salty. This was the worst El Fenix I've ever been to. It was dirty, and outdated. Worse than that the food was terrible. The chips were stail,and the salsa tasted old/ not fresh. When our entrees came out which was enchiladas and tacos the enchiladas were hard and the ratio of tortilla to cheese was off because there was not enough cheese and waaaay too much tortilla. The gravy on the enchilada was good but that's about it. My daughter ordered chicken tortilla soup and the broth was too salty. Overall I would be worried to go back because of the cleanliness of the building and it seems the food is not fresh. Sorry but we will not be back. I've been to other El Fenix and this one definitely is not up to par. The owners should just shut this one down. read more

Love this place but today had steak fajitas and the meat was rotten literally had my husband try and waitress even tried-the waitress walked back where a table I'm assuming of managers and not sure what was said but she came back and asked me what else I would like so I got two enchiladas-I did not pay for the fajitas but paid for the enchiladas which was fine-my problem was a manager should have came over and apologized-it was not busy!! read more

Food and service is very good here. Enjoyed the cheese taco dinner with rice and beans. Chips are good and salsa.

I have eaten here 3 times, because my in-laws like this place. I am not a fan, personally. The chips and salsa are okay, and the food is so-so. I prefer Fresco's. The guacamole tostadas aren't as good as On The Border's. The last time I went the food took a long time to get to our table, but our server was very friendly. If you want Mexican food, you could do worse, but you could do so much better. read more

If people up in north Texas think this is Tex-Mex, they're mistaken. It's disgusting. The salsa tastes like Pace picante sauce and they actually sell it in jars. Gross. The salsa at El Fenix is the only salsa that my Grandma can stand to eat heat wise. It's mild for her and that's what she likes. Whenever we want to stay close to home and burned out on everything else, we usually will go to El Fenix. So if my Grandma is a fan I am too! Chips are good. I do like the salsa and queso. El Fenix has been my favorite place for Mexican food for years. Recently I ate there with a friend and we both ate the same things and we both got sick. When I reported it to the El Fenix regional manager, he was so rude and disrespectful and he would talk over me. He refused to listen or even offer to check it out. The service was ok, the bartender had more than she could handle. Ordered the brisket nachos we are Texans no matter what they say that was not brisket, eating roast on nachos is very nasty. The Manger said they just cook it different not buying that at all!! The appetizer special had stale flautas, rare steak in the quesadilla and the fakest guacamole that just looked gross. Couldn't bring my self to eat it. The manager said to let her know next time we were in and she'd fix it, but there will never be a next time. Like other locations the food was great. The 3 stars are for the service (lack there of). I was in town for a training, so I wanted a quick but tasty lunch. I sat at the bar hoping for quick service with attention. No refills....no return from the server upon the delivery of meal. I had to ask for my check so that I could leave and get back in time. I ordered the shrimp tacos, the "slaw" that was on it was sour tasting...not sour as in lemon or lime, sour as in BAD. So I just picked it off because I figured it would take too long to fix the plate again, but the shrimp wasn't very good either. My husbands "fajita enchilada" was just a cheese enchilada with a TINY portion of diced "fajita meat" sprinkled on top. I also really don't like that there's no security cameras located in the parking lot - especially being on a highway you'd think they'd want to protect their customers...i won't be back.
