Website contacted but, getting real upset with El Fenix in general now. I'm 57 and have been eating at El Fenix for 54 years, if not longer. I expect better. I swear the employees at the Mesquite El Fenix location have a problem understanding plain English. This is the second time I have had food delivered and the order was messed up. It is also the last. I know why they don't offer Sour Cream and Beef enchilada's on their menu. Because they SUCK! How in the Hell do you get an order for Sour Cream Chicken enchilada's and they come to the customer with beef inside? It's a simple thing really. You read the order and you put chicken in the tortilla. There you have it. I could understand getting Chile con Carne and Chile con Queso mixed up but you can't tell the difference between ground beef and chicken? Unacceptable! They also put two single sides of rice and beans instead of the family size. Are the 4 of us supposed to split a cup of rice and beans? "Here son, have a couple of ounces of rice and beans with your crappy Sour Cream and Beef enchilada's!" Unbelievable! Went to dinner at el Felix, host Pablo was amazing! Food came out in a great timely manner: food was really good and HOT: hostess was really great: was disappointed in the margaritas, order a watermelon one and it wasn't good turned around and changed it for strawberry wasn't much better, but I did drink it, Pablo informed me it was a new person training as bartender, so that could explain why the margaritas weren't award winning: but over all a great experience.. when u go in there ask for Pablo he truely was a great host! read more

The food was just ok... but what really made me lose my appetite was the giant roaches crawling on the wall and floor. We had to speak with the manager and let her know that a member of our party had to kill one of them. Our table and another table were literally screaming at the site. Probably only decent Mexican place close to Mesquite. This place has gone down hill a bit. They have raised their prices and reduced portions. Clientele has also gone down. This location needs and overhaul. Still love their chips and salsa though! read more

This has been my standard for Tex Mex since I was little. Fast, good food. It's not fancy or cutting edge but it tastes good and endless chips and salsa is never a bad thing. The menu and service is consistent and the food is exactly what you expect. It may be the nostalgia more than the food but I will always love El Fenix. read more

The service was great. We were seated quickly and put in our order and had food within about 15 minutes. The roof was leaking near us, practically on another group of diners, so I'm not sure what was up with that. Chips and salsa were fresh and delicious. Specials were generous- kids eat free all month in March and enchilada plates are $5.99 on Wednesdays. We took advantage of both. The food was good, but none of us were huge fans of the shredded chicken. It was okay but not my favorite- very wet and stewy. I've always ordered beef enchiladas, tamales...things that go great with their chili sauce. Next time I'll go back to that. Overall a good experience. read more

I LOVE El Fenix and the Mesquite location has been my favorite for over 12 years! As a regular, they know my family and me. They even know when we haven't been there in a while. I could start naming memu ite.s, but I swear all of them are an explosion of delicious flavor that leaves me planning my next trip before I leave the table. It was just ok went for dinner chips were great beer was cold salsa nothing worth writing about. I had the beef fajitas I found them to come out way to fast so precooked and less than five min but they were ok I did like the onion rings on top tortilla didn't taste as fresh as I would like. Service was nothing to complain about but nothing to write about price was fare. Beer was over 4 overall it was just ok nothing special was wanting more but I was in Dallas not San Antonio. I've been to this location many times, rude staff, bathrooms dirty, cheap texmex food. My family went Sunday night and all the wait staff were sitting in the back rolling their silverware for the night while my table of 7 literally sat forever with no drinks. Ordered queso.... Always come here, first time for lunch. Service is always fast. I came in around 11:20, ordered by 11:25 and had my foot by 11:30. Super disappointed. I went because of the other reviews of the chips. The chips they bring you for the table are obviously supermarket bought (LAME). The chips for the nachos are thicker and much better, but it was obvious that they were microwaved the order, to melt the cheese, as they came out in less than two minutes. I ordered the bean and cheese nachos and it was exactly 12 chips with cheese and beans for $7(rip off, in my opinion). The bar counter was NOT clean when I sat down too (no one at the bar when I showed up). I got the large guacamole and there was a huge inedible chunk in the mix. No quality control at this place. Another review said the bathrooms were clean........yeah right! I almost had to hold my breath when I went in there due to the smell and humidity. Never again! read more

Our family likes to go to brunch on Sunday. Normally there are 10 to 15 of us. The buffet at El Fenix is perfect. Everyone can get what they want and El Fenix can easily accommodate large groups. We have tried everything on the buffet and found it very delicious. I especially like the pancakes. read more

No one ever came to the table but the waiter at the next table looked at us at least three times knowing we hadn't been served because there was nothing on our table except menus. UPDATE: We returned back to this location for lunch the other day. My brother wanted his usual "don't let me run out of salsa" and the server happily complied and brought 4 extra cups of salsa with the drinks. During the meal, the sever brought 3 more cups of salsa and more chips. Brother is happy. Everyone is happy. Good job El Fenix! ORIGINAL REVIEW: No Salsa Service. You all know El Fenix. Decent consistent food as well as prices. But, I have a problem with this location. My brother loves their salsa. It is the main reason that he likes to go to El Fenix, although he thinks the rest of the food is average. You know how small those little brown salsa 1/2 cups are. It is hard to even dip a chip in those. A cup would work better. In the past, when we requested extra salsa, or a bowl of salsa, they said that they are not allowed to bring extra salsa. We would wave down a waiter whenever one walked by, and ask for more to fill our empty cups. Today the waiter said that he couldn't bring more salsa, and that he needed to speak to the manager to clear such an order. After waiting about 2 minutes, we left and went to the next nearest location at Casa Linda, where we had excellent service and CUPS of salsa with a very attentive waiter during the lunch rush. The worst BLAND/TASTELESS Mexican food ever! The chips and salsa were the only things that were good. The service wasn't very good either. We will NEVER go back. I am sorry because this place use to be so good. I ordered the cheese enchilada dinner and it tasted as if it was leftover from about 3 or 4 days ago and this is not the first time I can say that. It saddens me because this has been my favorite restaurant since I was a child going to the Casa Linda restaurant. Management has changed in last few years or so and so has the quality of service. There was a time when your order was hot and ready before you could blink. Now it is slow and the food seems like it was prepared a week or so in advance. I kept coming back regardless, thinking maybe they are just having an off day, but this time I believe was my last time. It is a sad day for I have been a patron since the 70's. :( PS the chewy pecan pralines are not done. They should be sticky but not so that you cannot take it as one piece out of the wrapper. You have changed them, just as you have changed everything else. You need a spoon to eat them and scrape them out of the wrappers. They are just gross now and they are just not cooked long enough. They used to be so good just like the rest of the food but not anymore. I will not be coming back to any of your restaurants anymore. I cannot say of the downtown one or any others but this review is for Mesquite and Casa Linda restaurants. If these two have changed then I can only guess that all of them have changed and not for the better. :( read more
