Can I give 6 stars? We spent the night here while on a road trip and this restaurant was close to our hotel. Didn't expect to find this fabulous Mexican food in Akron, Ohio. Beer and margaritas were great and the food exceptional. If you like it spicy, ask for the salsa picosa. Very interesting salsa. Service was wonderful. I wish we were going to be here two or three days so I could try other entrees. I had the Pollo con Crema, my husband had the special combo. Both were delicious and generous portions. First time here and it was a bit lackluster. The waitress seemed as though she would rather be somewhere else. The fajitas were setting in what just a little less than a puddle of something. Pink enchilada sauce is weird. And sus. This used to be my go-to Mexican restaurant in Green, but I haven't been for a couple few years, so I decided to go today and see if the quality and service remains. But, since I'm working, I had to order takeaway instead of dining in. I grew up in Tucson and have been to Mexico more times than I can count. I love Mexican food! It's my favorite cuisine, I could eat it all day, everyday. So it was much to my surprise when I ordered the Vegetarian Combo #E at El Fogon today (which includes a bean burrito, cheese enchilada, and cheese quesadilla) and my enchilada was covered with watery pink enchilada sauce! I'm sorry, what?! In the thousands of times I've had Mexican food all over this country and in two different states in Mexico, I have never encountered PINK enchilada sauce. And I gotta tell you, it's not that good. Tonight, I can only hope I don't live to regret eating this meal. Yikes! It was rather bland and boring, tasted a little weird, and was very watery. And it was PINK. I don't recommend this place anymore, unfortunately. My once favorite Mexican restaurant in Green is now the one I will avoid. I'm sad. On the down side: - The spice level, on my burrito and in the chip salsa, was zero, further muffled by extensive use of cheese sauce on dishes. - My "gold" marg tasted like a Cactus Cooler, with no hint of tequila, no citrus tang. Lots of menu items here use ground/minced beef. Not much flavor as I'm use to being from California. This location, does however have a large menu choice including dessert. Some style drinks they do not serve, like Jamaica. The service here is GREAT though. Everyone was nice and friendly and did their jobs well. Seemed like a popular lunch spot to catch a bite to eat. Is El Fogon the best Mexican you'll ever eat? No. Is it a solid choice for dinner with the kids in Akron? Yes! The seating happens quickly, the chips are hot and the salsa is mild, see above for dining with the kids. The margaritas are cold and served in a schooner. Entree wise it's better than many other places along 77, but by no means a home run. I've been here 3 or 4 times and it is very consistent. The Good: Prices are great. They get the food out quick, which can be a bad sign in some places. However, all the food tastes fresh and I have never had something bad here. Simple, good food. The cheese in everything tastes amazing. You will never leave hungry. The Bad: Hard to find - other than if you want something spicy you need to ask. Some of these other reviews seem dumb. It's not an issue that they don't spice food up, you can always ask. Nevertheless, I had the shrimp/chicken fajita for lunch. It was okay, although the flan was a plate of yuck with a bunch of whipped cream and chocolate on top of it. I'm more annoyed with the icy customer service. While ringing up the bill, my friend told him he could keep the change for a tip. He seemed to not hear her so she repeated it. I don't know how I didn't rate this sooner! I love this restaurant. We had some bad luck at various Mexican restaurants in the area and finally found this one which has a patio, two dining areas and a bar. The staff is so fun and friendly and makes great house margaritas. Make sure to ask for that one over the regular lime one. read more

We went here for dinner the other night. Two of our children ordered from the children's menu, my wife and I ordered the dinner for two (pictured here). The chips, salsa, queso dip, and guacamole was an amazing start to the meal. The food was delivered to the table in record time. As you can tell from the photo it was extremely well prepared! This has steak, chicken, chorizo, shrimp, onions, and peppers. Since it was a dinner for two we each received a side plate of rice, guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, and beans. The dinner was just as good as the service from EVERYONE in the restaurant. The entire staff were friendly, kind, and gracious. I've been here many times, as it's really close to the local theatre. The food is always hot and quick, and is very comparable to other Mexican restaurants. The lady at the front desk is quick with calculating checks, like borderline a wizard, and the line is never long because of her. The waiters, however, are not as friendly and do not really seem to care about what they're doing. No above and beyond service, just average. I stop by this place for dinner on a business trip to Akron. It was very close to my hotel, so I just walked over. It was located in an unusual position next to a movie theater behind a car dealership at the end of a dead-end road. Perhaps movie patrons and hotel residents might go here, but I can't imagine many other people making the trek to go here. The ambience was what I would expect of a "typical Mexican restaurant". The food was mediocre at best. They did bring chips and salsa, and the chips were hot and crispy. The sauce was bland, and very typical of any other given Mexican restaurant. I ordered the Carnitas plate without rice. The pork was slightly fried, without the nice crispy bits that I like in my carnitas. El Fogon easily has the best Mexican food around. This place has so many amazing qualities I can't imagine how someone doesn't give it 5 stars. As soon as you walk in the door you are greeted by a friendly staff member and taken to a table and promptly brought a basket of chips and salsa. The salsa alone sets El Fogon apart from other Mexican restaurants as it has the the perfect amount of flavor and spice yet isn't overpowering to the point your mouth is on fire. The menu at El Fogon is large and there is something for everyone ranging from the basic ground beef taco, combination platters, shrimp dishes, and vegetarian options. You cannot go wrong any selection. The ground beef is seasoned perfect, the cheese quesadilla is hot and fresh, and the chicken enchiladas are mouthwatering. Portions are large and the price is amazing. El Fogon is great for groups, dinner for a family, date night, lunch, or a drink after work. There literally is not an occasion to stop in! read more

Horrible service. Food was nasty.. Got there at 2:30 leaving by 3. Only time we seen an employee was being seated, placing order and receiving food. Not one person asked how everything was (until paying) never got a refill on drinks and had to get my own box to take my food home in. Once we finally found an employee and asked for our own check the person who was taking our payment asked how everything was when we told him we never got a refill on our drink or anything he just told us the price and never even said sorry.. Walked from our hotel across the street to El Fogon. Good place overall. We asked to sit outside on the patio. They had recently had a large table depart and seemed to be having a challenging time getting the tables back together and all worked out. Perhaps our experience inside may have been more calm?
