I came for the yuca fries. I know that's a pretty odd menu item to check El Gauchito out for. It's right by the highway and on my way home so why not? Parking was pretty rough, circled around twice. Once I got inside, the staff was all pretty friendly. Gave me an ipad with the menu and I got yuca fries and a gnocchi pasta and totaled about $30. The food was good but portions were small. The restaurant was completely packed though and since it's an Argentinian steak house, Im sure I didnt get what they're known for. This place has been on my list and tonight I finally got to check it off. Wow. What a meal! A very unassuming place right off the highway but once you walk in it's a very cozy restaurant. Staff was super friendly and our waitress Mel, was very nice in explaining the menu. It was an Extensive menu and of course your wide array of meats! The free bread that comes to table warmed was perfect. We also got a small place of a few slices of meat with cheese which was delicious. Nice complimentary touch. I ordered the skirt steak and a side of garlic potatoes. With an Inca cola! Before anything, a nice hefty does of chimichurri was left on our table. Excitement is an understatement. The steak came out and the smell of the char with it being perfectly seasoned was hypnotic. It looked and was super juicy. You don't even need the chimichurri! The garlic potatoes were heavy on the garlic of course and it was great. I just wished it was a bit more on the plate. Very very satisfying meal that does not break the bank. They are two El Gauchito's and we like this the most. Knowing the people that used to serve there from another historical restaurant La Esquina de Don Chicho's makes us going back to remember a very very classic Argentinian restaurant that is not longer opened after his owner passed away. This was my first time dining here. I was really excited to try something new, but unfortunately, it ended up being a bit disappointing. When we walked in, all the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Shortly after we sat down, a male server came over and asked what we wanted to order. My boyfriend and I decided on the parrillada for one. The server even repeated it back to confirm that we wanted the parrillada for one, and my boyfriend clearly confirmed that was correct. Then I asked if it came with a side, and the server said it came with two sides. So my boyfriend and I each picked one side. We also added a squid rice dish. We were considering ordering an appetizer, but the server told us that should be enough food, so we didn't order anything else. After a while, the parrillada came out. It looked like a big portion, and we did enjoy the meal. But we had no idea that what we were given was actually meant for two people. When the bill came, we noticed the price didn't match what we expected. The parrillada for one was supposed to be around $50-something, not $70-something. So we called the server over and asked why the price was different. He told us that because we chose two sides, it was charged as a portion for two. At that point, I was pretty upset. We clearly ordered the parrillada for one, and the server even confirmed it as "for one." So why were we told to pick two sides, and then charged for two people? When we tried to explain this to him, he didn't really respond or take responsibility. He just kept saying "sorry" without offering any real solution. In the end, we felt forced to pay. What made it worse was that he added, "tips are not included." To me, that came across as if we were still expected to tip despite the mistake. Honestly, I don't think we should have had to tip at all for this experience, but we still ended up leaving a 15% tip. Overall, we won't be coming back. Just a heads-up to other customers: when you order, make sure you clearly confirm that you're ordering a portion for one. A single portion should only come with one side, not two. If a server tells you it comes with two sides, be careful--that may mean they'll charge you for a portion for two. read more

I loved the atmosphere; I could feel the love in the food. The food was delicious we ordered a paradilla and roasted potatoes. We also ordered the red sangria and empanadas. Eat here now! I have live across the highway from this place for YEARS yet never ate here for some reason. It was packed but we got seated quickly. The shell steak on sizzling plate with 3 sides is only $70 for 2 people. That's a steal! We did the steak with chimichurri sauce and mashed potatoes, salad and maduros plus they gave a free appetizer of a meat and tomato in oil and vinegar. We were stuffed and took the rest to take home. Been meaning to go to El Gauchito for a long while and have to say I was extremely disappointed in the experience. The decor and staff were wonderful, but the food was lacking alot. The entraña and meat was good but the famous chimichurri sauce was extremely salty with a disproportionate amount of vinegar and the vegetables also were impossible to eat because they were drenched in vinegar. The worst Cauliflower & Carrots I've ever had with all that vinegar. I spit my carrots out onto my plate bc they were drenched in vinegar. I'm shocked why there are next to no reviews addressing this. Not sure if the chef dropped the bottle in the pot but I hope the owners are aware of this! read more

Came here on a whim with my husband while driving home. We just wanted to stop to use a bathroom and get some snacks. So happy we did, we ordered grilled calamari, empanadas and yuca fries. On February 2nd, 2025, our family lost our favorite Empanadas restaurant, which we enjoyed eating at. The bespectacled owner was rude, did not explain, and told us we were wrong. Should you find that my explanation is not precise, please do not hesitate to contact me. We ordered a dozen Empanadas, and she handed me a box. 1. I asked her for one more sauce and she was not happy and asked for 25 cents for the extra pay. I said OKAY and the total was $28. I gave to her my BOA debit card, and she asked me $29.12 and sign. I complained that the amount was different even she did not ask or explained about the different amount. 2. She stated that she was the owner and manager. I informed her that I would contact VISA to file a complaint regarding the lack of an explanation, and she responded by said "GO HEAD!" 3.When we tried to eat the empanadas once we got home, it was frozen. My husband phoned her, and she stated that I had taken the wrong order box. When I received the box, she did not inquire whether I did to order the frozen empanadas or the regular warm ones. She simply handed them to me. 4.When my husband went to return it, she insisted that I had taken the wrong thing, and my husband was furious at her attitude, so they fought, and then she yelled at him, "Don't come back when he's leaving." If you truly are the owner, you should surely hire a manager. In addition, you should not overlook your customers. Even if you are the owner, you took away our family's memories of Enpanada for fifteen and left us heart broken. Your disregarding eyes and rude attitude when I asked for one more sauce even neglected the staff who work for devotion of your store. I hope this doesn't happen again because of you. If you are at least the boss and are dealing with customers and payment, even though the po system changed two years ago, I hope you will be able to do things like void credit cards skillfully without assistance of your employees. Overall this was a pretty good spot! It feels really homey in the restaurant and the servers are super nice. We started off with the chorizo and molleja. I would skip the chorizo and just go for the molleja next time. I've had better chorizo called Mr. Tango which you can get in Latin stores. The molleja was great though, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. My skirt steak (entraña) was delicious! Maybe a little too much salt for my taste, but nothing you can't just scrape off. My dad got the vacio and my mom got the beef milanesa - both delicious! For the sides, we got fries a la Provençal (parsley and Parmesan) which were okay, and the ensalada rusa was good! For dessert, we got the panqueque de Dulce de leche. It didn't stand a chance for a picture, we inhaled it! I'll definitely be coming back. read more

Two tables taken at 4pm, 03/22 Sat for 10 minutes before any acknowledgment. Walked up to front, asked for water, and clean glasses (they were filthy). As two other parties arrived, they were given prompt attention (everyone in restaurant were Latin, except us... we were on the Gringo List). The fascio looked like the picture of the shell steak, too. The "cook" doesn't know how: he thinks fast blackening of the outside and leaving the inside raw is equivalent to medium rare. Waited 10 minutes for wife's fascio to be re-cooked. Then exposed the disaster pictured. It should not be called a "steakhouse", more like a coffee shop. Went here tonight for the first time. We had a group of 7 on a Sunday and luckily they were able to sit us with no problems. But I would recommend reservations just in case since it was still busy for dinner time. Our waitress was very nice and was wearing a mask which I appreciated. I go here when I'm craving Argentinian steak but don't wanna drive to Corona or Elmhurst where the parking situation can be annoying. My go to order is the skirt steak and asado. If it's your first time, I'd definitely recommend the Mixed Grill which has a little bit of everything like the sweet breads, sausage as well as the skirt and asado. J really likes the polenta here, but be warned: it is huge! It's probably big enough to be an entrée in and of itself. It didn't even look like we made a dent in it. They have a pretty good wine selection. The last time I went, we ordered a decent bottle of Malbec. Of their desserts, I like the cheese and jam/jelly one; it seems to me that not a lot of restaurants make this dessert so I order it almost every time I come here. read more

I came here over the weekend with my in laws and must say it's not too shabby. My Father in law found this location as he is always looking for Argentinian food alternatives. We always enjoyed the food in the Elmhurst location, so I was curious. The esthetic needs some work as it seems a little on the downscale side, looking somewhat plain. The paridalla also needs a little bit more flavored varieties or it may just be that it's not my acquired taste (cow kidneys and tripe...yuck!) Everything else was good, however, they could have been more generous with the side of fries as well as the rice and beans. The white sangria was mediocre and needed a little more flavor to it. On the plus side the service was excellent, with the waitress being very nice and on point. Overall this location had average tasting food, but with excellent service to say the least. I wouldn't mind eating here again and seeing what the rest of the menu has to offer. I do thoroughly enjoy the Elmhurst location, but it's nice to have the option of Argentinian food closer to Bayside. read more

I have lived in queens for over 40 years and this is by far the worst Argentinian restaurant. I dont know how this place still prides itself in grilling steaks. The beef ribs were not washed after they were cut. They were never washed, leaving pieces of the bone for when they were grilled. The mashed potatoes were smoked and probably the worst I ever had, in hindsight I should had them taste it for themselves. The beef milanese had no flavor at all, thank God the chimichurri gave it some taste. The only good thing was the service and the bread. What a disappointment...I would never go back there again even if it's a free experience. Save yourself the trip and money. There are better steak houses out there. read more

After visiting on two separate occasions, I've found that it does not conjure the same magic as the original location.
