I haven't been to La Sala since they renovated, the space is so much bigger and a better layout. Dined on a Wednesday, they have happy hour till 7. Options were very limited so that was disappointing, we opted for the 1/2 price bottles of wine (also limited, 2 options). It was a quiet night so the bartender was also our waiter, he was great, very attentive and offered recommendations. Party of 6 we ordered a bunch of things and shared. The guacamole & mussels were very good, garlic shrimp were underwhelming. Tuna salad was huge, needed sauce or a better dressing. Dessert was disappointing (molten cake was cold, churros needed to be cooked more). Nice spot for a drink & app or a date but for dinner I'll stick to Tu Casa read more

Shout out to Oscar for letting us close out the place with him. There was 45 minutes until they closed and as we sat at the bar, Oscar told us he warned the kitchen to stay open for us, when he saw us walk in. Did I mention this is my first time here and meeting Oscar behind the bar. How gracious was he to stick around. We chatted about the neighborhood, the best Mexican in Queens, and how he's a fellow foodie at heart. The place is beautiful! It also has an enclosed outdoor seating area in the front. The food menu looks amazing but we were just there for a night cap. I got the Cola de Leon with bourbon, lime and bitters. Damn was it perfect. The place is small, but has so much character. My husband surprised me for my birthday and took me here. I was delighted being that I had it bookmarked for what seems like forever. Our reservations were for 7pm. We were running a tad late due to dropping off our toddler prior to my celebratory dinner. I was in awe of the decor, lighting and flower wall. This place screams intimate and sexy. Definitely for a mature crowd but if you wanted to bring the kiddos there is a patio like area right before you enter the restaurant that you can dine at. The moment we walked in we're asked where we'd like to sit. We chose a low top table across from the bar. Our wonderful waitress whose name escapes me asked if he wanted to get started on apps or drinks. Hubby and I live sangria but couldn't decide on which flavor to order. She listed the flavors and asked if we wanted to sample it first. Of course I obliged. Not soon after she came back with a sangria float which consisted of: Regular, Passion Fruit, Guava and Berry. Each flavor was tasty but we ultimately went with a pitcher of the Berry flavor as it was absolutely delicious. Believe me when I tell you this sangria almost took us out. It's sweet yet balanced and sneaks up on you, For apps we went with Guacamole which comes with Plantain Chips and Beef Corn Masa Empanada. The guac was extremely fresh and plentiful. The app should include extra plantain chips. Although we didn't ask for additional I'm pretty sure our waitress would've brought them out. The empanadas were mini but packed a lot of flavor. The app came with a total of four which was perfect to share. We even used some of the guac on the empanada. The chipotle sauce that comes with the empanada was ok but not needed in my opinion. Now for the entrees we weren't exactly sure what we wanted but we had a few strong contenders so it was hard to choose a dish. Ultimately we ended up ordering the Chuleta en Leña and the Paella. Hubby's Chuleta en Leña was incredibly delicious. The lamp chops were cooked perfectly, incredibly tender and melted in our mouths with each bite. The seasoning used was simple but left an outstanding impression on our palate. My Paella included shrimp, mussels, octopus, clams, and chorizo. I opted to remove the chorizo and octopus and asked for extra shrimp instead. Everything about my dish was amazing. It was absolutely delicious, which flavors so rich and tender it practically melted in my mouth. As we wrapped up dinner I was waiting for my hubby to collect the check but was surprised by the staff singing me Happy Birthday, including a birthday sign, music and bringing out complimentary dessert. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty, it took almost an hour before a server came to take our order. After spending all that time reviewing the menu and deciding on the lamb, we were told--after ordering--that they were out of it. It was the one thing we were all excited to try, so we reluctantly settled for steak with rice. When the food finally arrived (which also took a long time), it was another letdown. The rice tasted like parboiled rice--dry and lacking flavor--and the steak was overcooked and just as dry. Sadly, no one at the table enjoyed their meal. Service was extremely slow, the food was underwhelming, and the overall experience just didn't live up to expectations--especially for a special occasion. I got to try the lamb chops and taco platter as well as the empanadas. Food was good. For drinks we got 3 pitchers red, white and black berry sangria not the typical sangria im used to as it was way too sweet! I would of prefer a dry red or white wine so that it can balance out the sweetness. The black berry was a big No for me tasted like pure sugar and not enjoyable. The restaurant is on the smaller side but has plenty of seating inside, outside, and at the bar. The outside area opens up and becomes a wonderful outdoor dining experience! There is also heaters in there for when you visit during the fall/winter. The fooooooood. Omg. Yes, they are a tapas bar... but in addition to their small bites, they have regular size entrees! The flavor does not lack!!!! It gives true Spanish fusion vibes. You will be blown away by everything. Especially if you get what I got: - Chicken empanadas... juicy and tasty chicken encased in a corn shell. Perfection. - Guacamole and plantain chips... a combination made in heaven; the bowl they serve it in is so clutch too - Carne y frites... a fan favorite and one of my favs too. The steak is cooked just as I asked and paired well with the brussel sprouts and fries! - Chuleta en Leña... those lamb chops are something else. My all time favorite!!!! Its not as big as I expected it to be, but it's perfect for an intimate date night or catching up with a few friends. Highly recommend making reservations especially on a weekend. Can I just say, I'm impressed! This was my first venture into indoor dining since Covid hit. We sat at the high top table at the front of the restaurant and were next to an opening, so it didn't feel like I was totally indoor dining, but it was a good way to dip our toes in. The space is lovely, it feels modern and intimate. The waiter was friendly and just the right amount of attentive. We asked to see a drink list and a wine cart was wheeled over and the waiter proceeded to show us the wine options, which were all labeled with the by the pour and bottle pricing; cool idea. We were also told about their sangria options, which we jumped on. Both the red and white versions are good, however these are some strong sangrias. The menu has lots of good options to choose from and we went for a mix of apps and small plates. We started off with the Mushroom Croquettes which had a beautiful crunchy exterior and a creamy interior. They were sitting atop some perfectly caramelized onions and the flavors all came together for a delicious bite. Next up were the Mussels with Chorizo which were fabulous, so flavorful and the mussels were nice and tender. Served with some grilled bread, I was sopping it all up. The Shrimp with garlic and white wine were expertly cooked and just wonderful. Last up was the Mac & Cheese topped with roast pork and it was heavenly; it actually reminded me a lot of my grandmother's mac & cheese. We didn't really want our meal to end so decided to move onto dessert; one of the options was a Coffee Tres Leche topped with Meringue, holy moly it was excellent. While it was creamy and decadent, it also felt light and was not overly sweet. Really great version. It was a lovely evening with some fantastic food and I can't wait to go back. read more

Perfect meal! I came with a large party of 20+ people for a celebration dinner and not only was every single thing delicious, but the staff didn't miss a beat. They were fast, friendly, and maneuvered around the modestly sized space easily. There's also an enclosed patio area that's whimsical and lovely, and they even managed to squeeze in a DJ (whose music wasn't too loud, love that). I thought the pricing was also very reasonable for the portion size, especially considering you can choose from options like paella and lamb chops. Tapas spots are often known for breaking the bank but that won't happen here! Croquetas de Trufa - truffle croquettes with caramelized onions, shiitake mushrooms, parmesan cheese and I think a balsamic vinegrette glaze. The photos make them look dark/burnt but don't worry, these are tender, with a sweet savory flavor leaning towards sweet. The onions sit at the base, they're not incorporated into the batter like we expected, and I think this actually works better. Camarones Al Ajillo - shrimp, olive oil, white wine, garlic, served with toast points. This was the weakest dish of the night and was still good. If I'm being a stickler, I thought the shrimp could have been more tender and the sauce more flavorful, but that might have only been in comparison to the other amazing dishes. Mac n cheese - cavatappi pasta with a three cheese blend, usually served with roast pork but they had run out. This was still a 5 star mac. Cavatappi is one of my favorite pastas and it's underutilized, those twists are perfect for holding liquid cheesy goodness, and the firmness of the noodle offers a good contrast. It's a baked mac, with a crispy endorphin raising crust. Chuleta en Lena - wood smoked lamb chops with yogurt sauce, grilled pita, potatoes, and chimmichurri. Oh my Lord I loved this. It comes out of the kitchen seemingly still smoking and fills the whole room with the most heady scent. Cooked perfectly, with a few dollops of sauce, this is a crowd pleaser. I do think the yogurt and pita seem a little bit of an odd choice, but it just means you can technically split this with your vegetarian friend! Paella - saffron rice with clams, shrimp, mussels, and octopus. I have to pass on commenting because while I love all seafood, paella has just never been my dish of choice. It was very good, but I'd never order it, so I'll defer to other reviewers here. Talvera tacos - a beautiful build your own taco platter with shredded braised short ribs, shredded chicken, queso fundido, tortillas and two kinds of salsa. Someone else ordered this and ended up not finishing it, so I adopted it and gave it a good home and WOW. It was delicious that night, but I swear the meat marinated in its own joy and was even better as leftovers. The salsa was bomb and pretty spicy for a tapas place. The chicken was so shockingly flavorful it actually completed with the short ribs, something I never thought I'd say. Ceviche roll - the best I saved for last. This is everything, I've craved this ever since my meal, it's definitely living rent free in my brain. The outside of the roll is gently fried - usually while I love the flavor of deep fried rolls I tend not to order them because it's not what I want when I order sushi, but the interior ingredients of avocado, crab, and cucumber shown through, while the outer fry added a nice texture. Then the whole roll was drizzled with aioli and covered with tuna red onion ceviche. I mean Jesus, sushi roll is practically emotional support. Fresh and bright and light and filling all at once, if you order nothing else, order this. Go go go and tell everyone you know. Parking is rough but worth it. read more

It's a tapas spot which takes reservations, if you don't have reservations you can sit at the bar as well. They have a great selection of drinks and tapas and big plates. I've been here two times now and both times the service and food have been impeccable. This last time we got the meat and cheese board, their lamb chops which are absolutely delicious and their pallea. Everything is out of this world. Oscar who is usually the man in charge of the bar always delivers great service. Absolutely a must go to if you're in the area. Parking can be a pain in this area however across the street you can pay for parking up to 5 hours for $10. My friends and I picked La Sala because we love tapas. La Sala didn't disappoint. Located in Kew Gardens, it's a cute restaurant on the corner with outdoor dining in the front and indoor dining towards the back. It's decorated with neon signs with lights, plants and bottles of wine options on the walls. The mirrors and chandelier type lights are a nice touch. The bar is a focal point and great for gathering for drinks and bites. We didn't have a reservation but we're seated. We were close to the kitchen and the hustle and bustle of the restaurant's servers. We quickly ordered sangria and guacamole for the table. The sangria had chopped fruit but honestly wasn't anything special. The guacamole however was delish with plantain strips for dipping. We finished the plantain strips and asked for a few additional. There's a charge for that. The margarita was also ok. I think sticking to wine options is best. We had a nice red that was full bodied and not too sweet. We decided to split a few large plates for dinner to try a few favorites. The pulpo was great. With a bit of char on the outside but tender on the inside. It came w a dipping sauce. The steak and fries with Brussel sprouts was also very good. The steak was done to our liking with sautéed onions. The fries were ok. But the Brussel sprout stole the show. They were caramelized and a bit sweet but savory. Really good. We also ordered the tacos which came with short rib and chicken. There were a variety of dipping sauces, a cheese sauce and warm, soft, small taco shells. The short rib was very good and chicken ok. And the paella. It had a mix of seafood and rice. The rice at the bottom was crispy and added another layer of texture to the dish. We asked for coffee to finish the meal after many drinks but only espresso was available. We settled on just sharing flan before leaving. It came topped with strawberries and whipped cream. It was smooth. Pretty good. The only reason for the missing star was the service. After waiting so long to order our dessert we were told they needed the table for a reservation and were closing out our bill. Not the best way to do it but we were understanding that people were waiting. They seemed to be a little short staffed but everyone was overall friendly and welcoming.
