El Gaucho is hands down the best dining experience in the Boise area! I took my husband for his birthday -way to make him feel special- personalized menus and a personalized note. They welcomed us by name and the customer service was incredible. Our server, Bailey took excellent care of us, from the table side "vanilla and smoke old fashioned" and table side Caesar salad, to explaining the specials and menu, to caring for us throughout our meal-it was wonderful. I was also impressed with the GM, Jordan. You can witness his dedication to the success of this restaurant, talking to each table and helping the servers. In fact the staff had nothing but good things to say about working there-which speaks volumes to me. Now the food- we started with the wicked shrimp- amazing with a kick! Caesar salad was perfection and freshly made table side. I had the salmon and my husband the filet-both cooked perfectly. With sides of Mac and cheese -the best I've had -and Brussels. Portions are generous-we left with a huge to go bag. The restaurant is beautifully designed in a moody elegance. Live piano music every night adds to the ambiance. It's a wonderful place-everything was great. This one is most definitely worth checking out! We will be back-already planning our next visit! read more

I took my husband here for his birthday. They called me a day before to ask me the name of the one having a birthday and how old he was turning. You can also send them a picture of you opt to as well. Turns out they make you special menus that have the information you give them on it. It was a really a very personal touch and it is awesome and you get to keep the menu and they will put it in a plastic sleeve to help protect it. From the moment we walked in we were treated very well. When you first walk in, you will see their beautiful bar fully stocked and well maintained. The dining room is beautiful with chandeliers adorning the ceiling. It is hard to believe that this place was once Western Proper. Nathan was our server and he was excellent. He gave us a run down of the menu and how they chose the best ingredients for their dishes. For drinks, we got the Raspberry Kiss, Huckleberry Pad and For Whom the Bell Tolls. They were all delicious. The bread... of man the bread was so so so good. If we weren't there for an actual meal, I could have eaten 5 baskets of that bread. Then I went for the special soup of the day, salmon chowder. So flavorful and had lots of salmon in it. Then, on to the main course. They had a special today and it was Salmon Tonkatsu and my husband had the 6 oz filet mignon with a delicious brandy sauce and they did a little fire show with the sauce. Everything was cooked perfectly and was delicious. We ended the meal with a delicious Grandfather Port and a small cheese and fruit plate. This place was amazing. The only downside, of course, are the prices. This is definitely a special occasion place but we were extremely pleased... and extremely stuffed. We will be back, absolutely. read more

I was really looking forward to dining at El Gaucho, but unfortunately the experience was pretty disappointing overall. The Wicked Shrimp appetizer was definitely the highlight and had great flavor. The Caesar salad was okay, nothing special but still enjoyable. The main issues came with the entrées. I ordered the ribeye medium, but it came out much closer to well done and was very dark on the outside. It also lacked seasoning, which was surprising for a steakhouse. The lobster mashed potatoes were the biggest letdown. They had a strange taste that reminded me of stale tap water and were hard to finish. For the price point and reputation, I expected a much better meal. Hopefully this was just an off night because the appetizer showed they are capable of good food. read more

My wife and I dinned at El Guacho this May for her birthday. We shared the Steak Diane An El Gaucho signature flambe! It was fantastic. "One of the best tasting steaks I've ever had" her words. We also got the table side caesar. Excellent but way to much salad. We could have had half the amount and been fine. 25$ dirty Martinis. I drink a lot of martinis and these were excellent but not worth 25$ The gin used was expensive which lead to the higher price but still cold gin for 25$ kinda a hard sell. The table side service for the steak and caesar were both fantastic and highly entertaining. We enjoyed the piano and vocals singing jazzy versions of pop standads. All and all an excellent alternative to Boise's other high end steakhouses. We will be back. read more

Came here on a Tuesday night for some amazing food and we got a fire show too! As you walk in you're greeted by friendly staff who offer to take your coat while you enjoy your dinner. The ambiance was classical and calm. They have live music. We ordered a good amount of food. We got the calamari, the escargot, wild mushrooms, dry aged Washington heritage pork chop and the flaming sword brochette of tenderloin & New York. I'll start off with the food we liked the most which was the brochette of tenderloin & New York. The meat was perfect, super tender and you can taste the fire. It also comes with a fire show which I highly recommend. Next was the mushrooms, they were cooked to perfection and the seasoning was spot on. The Pork chop was also very delicious. It was a thick cut of meat and charred on the top. I believe it also had huckleberry sauce which gave it sweetness. The calamari tho was okay, I thought it could have been crispier and the escargot lacked flavor compared to other escargot's I've had in the past. Overall, we had a great time. What a fantastic place! The food was stellar. Our server, Nathan Miller, was exceptional. El Gaucho is hands down the best dining experience, as it was filled with many surprises, including personalized menus with our photo, knowledge about food allergy, a perfect balance of servers being attentive and not interruptive, stellar food, nice surprises during dinner (which I'll keep a surprise to not spoil the fun). Even though the restaurant was packed, the team had service mastered and it was a calm and professional setting that was very relaxing. The dinner service was very very good. The bar and dining room are very nice and the live piano was great. Part of the issue was that our reservation was late for our usual dinner time. That's not their fault at all. Not having a table ready until ten minutes after wouldn't have been that big of a deal if we weren't already later than usual and they didn't communicate well and we weren't literally just 20 feet away in the bar. Having to check ourselves felt a bit lazy. We started with a simple wedge salad. It was very good. They brought their famous bread to the table and it was also very good. Our table shared the Mac n Cheese. It was awesome. Highly recommend. Now the bad news. The biggest issue, and the severe disappointment was the steaks. For a place that puts itself out there as the best steakhouse! My "medium" Filet, which was described as mostly pink with a little cool center. Was very "well" done. Hardly any pink at all. For the price they want, there is no way a steak that far off should have been served. My daughter's medium rare steak was slightly better, but not even close to on point. Maybe "medium" but probably more like "medium well". Two of our steaks were cooked correctly and I think they were good. Not amazing, but very good. 2/4 isn't good enough for a place that charges this much money. I hope it's just the fact that they're new and the kinks aren't worked out yet. We also had the famous bananas foster desert, and it was very much as advertised. Awesome presentation and was wonderful. The QC has got to improve. We will wait a while, a long while, to try again. Great service from reservations to our delightful server. This was my second time dining here & overall it is very good. Some things could be improved upon. The music for one is really enjoyable up until the pianist leaves at 9pm (on a Saturday night no less) and then the room just feels awkward. The music over the sound system is so low there's absolutely no point to it. We sat there without any real ambiance for the last 90 minutes of our dinner. The tables upstairs are quite awkward as well. The people on opposite ends cannot communicate & it makes for segmented conversations. Not ideal. I won't sit up there again. The room itself is attractive but is missing something on the walls. It's almost like the one piece of too small art on the wall makes it look goofy instead of finished. The upstairs table faces a half wall which is slightly too high so you don't have anything to look at, as if you're in an office cubicle. The designer failed to create a space where you want to linger. The steaks are quite good as you'd expect from El Gaucho. The tableside bananas foster is a total disappointment. There is no color or sizzle on the bananas & the caramel is light & desperately needs a pinch of good salt to balance out the sugar bomb. Super mediocre especially at those prices. They should skip the tableside preparation in favor of getting it right in the kitchen with some beautiful caramelization on the bananas & add something crunchy for contrast like some toasted nuts. The waitstaff & management do a great job making customers feel appreciated & pampered so I'll likely be back. I'm hopeful they'll get the music sorted out & create a lively atmosphere & if they do I'll give it 5 stars. read more

I came here with some work colleagues for a nice dinner, and unfortunately, our steaks were off temp, they missed drink orders, over charged/didn't comp & kind of just odd service. Our "assistant", as she called herself, kept calling me beautiful lady throughout the night, which was weird, but other than that she was very nice. The place was nearly empty of patrons but fully staffed. drinks were slow and just ok. Wish they had a higher end wine list for the price. The scalloped potatoes were amazing. Everything else was just alright. Our steaks were over cooked, I ate mine but we sent one back - took 20 min to get it back, it was still over but they insisted the chef had "temped it right" and had my colleague cut into it under a flashlight. Again, just weird. I'd rather hit Baraboo or Hemlock for the price point. Ambiance was fine, they did have a live piano player. read more

We recently ate dinner there and ordered the table side Cesar salad. It was prepared in front of our table and I noticed the romaine lettuce was not fresh. It had some brown on many of the leaves and was more bland than a true Cesar that I have had in the past. I ordered the halibut and it was fair, bit on dry side and husband ordered chicken and he said it was tough, rubbery. The crispy Brussels sprouts and side of corn were delicious. We both had 9 oz portions of wine. The whole meal was over priced (almost $300.00 with 20% tip) compared to Chandler's steak house which was excellent and less pricey over 100 dollars less. An absolute 10 experience! Every detail down to lighting our path as we were walked to our table was great. The food, service, ambience, layout were fantastic. Only their 3rd day open and it ran like they'd been here for years. We had it all: drinks, starters, salads, mains, sides, and dessert. Everything was impeccable and we had plenty to choose from. Our waiter was great, a nice guy who did seem nervous but he did fine. Very attentive, kind, knowledgeable. None in our party of 7 will not come back toThe server was awkward and highly dramatized, it was very uncomfortable. El guacho Was a rollercoaster of flavors .. not in a good way. Starting off the wicked shrimp was poor quality with a sauce that was not desirable. Calamari was actually top notch. The only good thing we had. Quality of steaks were poor. Does not live up to the price. Morton's and Ruth's Chris have far better quality steaks worth their price and rib eye there costs less than what you charge. My bone in rib eye tasted sour and plain. No flavor. Couldn't eat even half of it. Just a few bites. My daughter tried a piece and spit it out. Her filet tasted like Persian /Armenian Lule kabob. Good flavor if it were actually a kabob but I would never pay $75 for kabob. It was supposed to be filet. The quality was piss poor. No offense but longhorn steakhouse has better quality and flavor than this. The lobster tail was ok but no umami there either. Anthony's does a better lobster for less. No umami experience with the steaks. You know that dopamine hit you get when your brain fires from something so delicious? No umami wow with our sides. Dessert was also mediocre .. soufflé wasn't a real soufflé it was more like a dense drenched pudding lava cake that lacked good flavor. Our wait staff were amazing, and the food was excellent as always, the only thing I see when we come there that I would address is the acoustics in the building that you recently acquired. I don't know what business was in the building before you moved in, but the sound noise is very loud, and hard to have conversations. This could be easily addressed with sound absorbing tiles, to absorb some of the reverberations and reflections of sound. I'm sure expensive but hope you will consider looking into it! Long time fan of the Fire & Vine brand restaurants. We are moving to the Boise area next month from Seattle, and are thrilled that El gaucho is in the downtown Boise area. I took my son and grandson there tonight for a guys night out and had the greatest experience. The ambience was great as usual. The customer service was exceptional as well. Spending years in the wine industry, I was pleased to see their broad and creative wine list. I was able to meet Greg, their wine manager, and I'm excited about their wines and what's to come as well. Love that they represent a lot of Washington wines.The appetizers were amazing, the main course was superb, and the desserts were even better. We had family in town and went to El Gaucho during opening week. The restaurant was beautiful, the food was delicious, and our server Greg was fantastic. On recommendation we went with the chateaubriand, I'm usually a ribeye fan, but this was delicious - probably the most tender steak I've ever had. It was carved at the table and came with enough sides to feed us all. We also loved the bananas foster flambéed at the table. We welcome the new addition and can't wait to go back! read more
